Long the belle of the Wigan ball, Charles N’Zogbia enchanted Fantasy managers and bonus point judges alike on his way to 313 Fantasy Premier League (FPL) points over two seasons at the DW Stadium. A £9.5 million move to Aston Villa in the summer of 2011 was supposed to herald the start of bigger and better things for the twinkle-toed talisman, but with new managers and new bonus point system proving immune to seduction, N’Zogbia soon found himself reduced to ugly-sister status in both the Villa squad and the FPL marketplace.

The dawn of 2013 saw the nadir for the Frenchman: without a Premier League start since August, struggling to shake off a knee injury and sitting ninth for FPL points in a Villa midfield chart topped by such Fantasy Football luminaries as Brett Holman, Barry Bannan and Ashley (nope, me neither) Westwood. A tactical reshuffle in Gameweek 22 saw N’Zogbia handed a new lease just off Christian Benteke and, flourishing in a more central role, he is again revealing glimpses of his wonted wizardry.

Starting Villa’s last six and amassing a goal and five assists over that period, he currently sits third in the form chart for Premier League midfielders. The fact that his price has remained unmoved on 5.8 (currently 5.7 in the Sky Sports game) since November may perhaps be ascribed two key factors: the consistent returns and accrued value boasted by more established midfield favourites, and the rise to prominence of Newcastle’s Moussa Sissoko as the leading contender in the mid-price bracket.

Whilst Sissoko’s appeal is undeniable, his exclusive grasp on the popular consciousness may prove useful to N’Zogbia’s would-be investors. The price gap is already 0.6 and widening, and with Manchester City next on Villa’s agenda it seems likely that Sissoko will continue to dominate midfield speculation until that tricky clash is out of the way and the fixtures take on a more favourable aspect for Paul Lambert’s men (rdg, QPR, LIV, sto, FUL).

Recent concern over Jason Puncheon’s security of starts under new Southampton boss Mauricio Pochettino may furnish another feather for N’Zogbia’s cap. With attractive budget propositions increasing thin on the ground in midfield, even the most steadfast adherents to the 3-4-3 setup may be forced to loosen the purse strings in order to consistently field a strong front seven over the rocky roads ahead.

Anyone else still holding a wildcard thinking of using it in GW29? With 4 weeks till the ARS vs EVE DGW, that's enough time to load up without hits. Means we can field a good team in GW29 too....

        Something special being?...

I'll most likely only be able to get 8 players out without hits in GW29 (7 Blanks, Demel & Marvs), so thinking it might be worth it in my case. Probably not if you can get a decent team out that week without too many hits though.

if Eve keep winning then they may only have a single GW

Fair point. If I do WC in GW29 i'd likely have cover from ARS,MCY,MUN & CHE on the bench, with the idea of bringing more in as and when the DGWs are announced.

Yeah, fair point. If i decide to WC next week then i may ditch RVP this week. With him likely to fall it should only be a 0.2-0.3 loss to get him back (can sell for 13.5 now)

    Slight dilemma for the weekend.

Play RVP (and risk a 1pt sub appearance) or bench him for Sissoko (and risk a start/late goal from RVP)?

Leaning toward playing RVP atm. Rest of front 8 is Mata/Walcott/Bale/Fellaini ----Studge/Lambert, so benching any of them not an option this weekend.

    JEvans case.

I think he's about 80-20 to play vs NOR.

    Why?

    - if SAF wants to play him vs Real, I can't see its game would be the first for Evans after 3 consecutive games on bench (Reading in FA Cup, QPR last weekend and potentially Norwich in the upcoming weekend). He wouldn't be in a match rythm.

    - if SAF wants to play Vidic-Ferdinand pair vs Real, I am pretty sure they are not that fit yet - especially Vidic - after their injuries to be able to manage 3 full games in a row.

The only concern is SAF choosing Smalling + Vidic/Ferdinand to play vs Norwich, but I think it's not that likeable.

I wouldn't be surprised at all to see a cheeky Smalling and Ferdinand pair this saturday. Ferdinand and Vidic are still #1 pairing despite all the Jevans fandom. And Ferdinand can handle the 2 games in short space of time because let's face it, Holt and Snodgrass aren't exactly going to beat anyone for pace.

If Fergie sticks with Evans Rio for Real, it's a 3 way battle between Evans Smalling and Vidic, or all 3 with Rafael rested.

Looking at the only confirmed GW29 fixtures:

    NOR v SOT
    QPR v SUN
    RDG v AVL
    WBA v SWA
    NEW v STO
    LIV v TOT

I realize there's few midfielders there you'd want to own that you probably don't already (Michu, Bale). The only two serious candidates look like Gerrard (tough defence) and Sissoko who does look like a huge bandwagon that week. I doubt you want to own many alternatives for very long.

On the other hand there's plenty of strikers worth keeping there - Lambert, Benteke, Lukaku, Cisse, Sturridge, Suarez and even Ade if he displays any spark by then.

I'll be looking to get in two strikers (considering Cisse and Benteke) and one mid for GW29.

Liverpool's fixtures are good for most of the run in so good coverage of their attack looks necessary, not sure Gerrard will be such good coverage with Sturridge, Suarez and Coutinho ahead of him. Just cautious myself, though he could still do well. I think Sissoko offers more in open play.

Wait a bit to get confirmation the city game is off, still seems undecided...

Argentina's league is one of the most boring, defensive, non-scoring leagues in the world. How they can produce attacking talent like Tevez, Messi, and Di Maria is a mystery.

You dont have to be good to defend in a defensively set up team. You have to be good to attack against a defensively set up team whilst in a defensive team.

Hey I'm about to ditch Shawcross and need some advice please.

I was going to swap him for J Evans but with him not playing last GW, I'm not so confident and am leaning towards Monreal. I have up to 5.9.

    Any advice would be appreciated!
    thanks !
