City grind out a victory, with Carlos Tevez providing the vital strike and the City back four keeping a struggling Villa at bay for another clean sheet. Here’s the Stock Check from Monday’s events…

On the Up

Carlos Tevez
Drafted into the side with Sergio Aguero missing out with a training ground injury, Tevez took his opportunity once again, adding to his goal last time out against Chelsea with tonight’s winner. Despite such form, Tevez could still find himself back on the bench when City are next in league action at Everton in Gameweek 30 with Roberto Mancini perhaps destined to continue with the 4-5-1 formation.

The City Defence
A second consecutive clean sheet made it six shutouts in the last eight league outings – clearly Mancini’s side are having little trouble defending of late, with creativity and goalscoring their main issue. Pablo Zabaleta remains the mainstay and key Fantasy target in the Citizen’s rearguard – the Argentine has started the last 16 league matches, earning two goals and two assists to accompany nine clean sheets in that spell. Matija Nastasic has also returned to fray to keep consecutive clean sheets, providing a cheaper route into a City defence which has now kept 13 shutouts in total.

Going Down

Sergio Aguero
The Argentine was set to go into tonight’s game without a goal in his last two but with his owners expecting a turn of fortunes, given the opposition. A training ground injury, confirmed by City and the player himself as a knee problem, scuppered his night, however. It’s not clear just how serious the setback is, although local press claims on Twitter state that he will also miss the FA Cup tie with Barnsley. With a two week break, however, Aguero will perhaps be expected to be in the frame for a return when City resume at Everton in Gameweek 30. That’s unlikely to prevent heavy sales given the forthcoming blank this weekend.

David Silva
It’s now five league matches without a goal for the Spanish playmaker, having scored in just one game out of the last 16 starts. That kind of record has seen Silva plummet in the midfield pecking order as the likes of Theo Walcott, Gareth Bale and Juan Mata have enjoyed consistent periods of scoring. While his 11 assists are impressive, it’s difficult to think of Silva as a heavy-hitter with a price drop beckoning next season.

Charles N’Zogbia
Having fetched return in four of his last four matches, N’Zogbia was ineffective this evening and was eventually hauled off on the hour-mark. His start at Reading next weekend could now be in question.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

QPR beat an in form Saints side away from home. A crucial result to give them hope to stay up in the prem.

I think Sun will be shell shocked with the passion and grit they will face at white city on Sat.

Coutinho plays in the front 3 of a 4-3-3 or in the 3 of a 4-2-3-1, or as the furthest forward mid in a 4-3-3

Gerrard is always a deep(ish) lying midfielder alongside Lucas.

        Possible Liverpool front 6s:

        Lucas, Gerrard
        Coutinho/Sterling, Suarez, Downing
        Sturridge

        Lucas, Gerrard, Henderson/Allen/Coutinho
        Coutinho/Downing/Sterling, Sturridge, Suarez

so i lost the members cup h2h by one point. 71 (-4) to 68. it wouldn't be so sad if i lost by only 1 point.. oh well. the real question i have is, do i take -4 hit for demel -> dawson? i only have 7 players playing, and i've wanted to get rid of demel for a while, and also wanted to bring in dawson. my other defenders are zabaleta, rafael, evans and davies. it's really more to fit more players in, but it just doesn't feel right taking a hit for dawson. but it feels even worse only being able to field 7 players. so what do you think?

Should be, he should have made the bench last weekend but has been ill. If he features in Russia on Thursday (Pardew has said he'll be fit for that), he might get a start at the weekend.

If he is fit, I'm considering getting him in, I already have Sissoko.

    2 FTs, 0.1 in bank

    Bunn
    Harte / Debuchy / Wilson / Davies
    Puncheon / Michu / Bale
    Sturridge

    Begovic / RVP / Aguero / Walcott / Fellaini / Zabaleta

    Thinking of:
Fellaini > Sissoko (tonight before price rise) &
    Aguero > Suarez

Do these look good? I would then be able to field 11 without any hits, cheers

Despite a marked drop in form, I'd still go for Mata above all others in the Chelsea team (unless price is an issue).

Have you considered Chelsea DF too?

price not an issue since i already got mata.

chelsea, i'm considering azpi. but zaba & JE are mainstays in my Df. you think i should get Chelsea or Manu DF to partner them?

If Ben Arfa's fit for the weekend, is it too much to have him and Sissoko in my midfield?

Struggling for options to get in for Fellani, about 7.5 to spend, any ideas?

Already got Michu and Sissoko, don't fancy Sess and getting Benteke so don't want N'Zog as well.

Snodgrass has nice fixtures and decent stats. But then again, that performance against Manchester United was horrendous.

If you are going to go for a differential, make sure it's not Aguero.

Otherwise your differential will not exist and you'll be saying hello to Puncheon's 2 points once more.
