Carlos Tevez steps in for the injured Sergio Aguero to grab the only goal as City clinch the points at Villa. Roberto Mancini sticks to a 4-5-1 formation once again as the visitors grind out their sixth clean sheet in eight to cut the gap at the top to 12 points behind neighbours United:

Aguero Concerns for City
Last night’s team sheet delivered an unexpected blow for Sergio Aguero’s owners after the Argentine was ruled out with a late injury – the forward took to twitter just before the match to deliver his own prognosis:

“I felt a crick in my right knee during last training so I won’t make it against Aston Villa today. It’s a pity I can’t be there for my team at this moment. All I can do is recover, and I’m already on it.”

Although press reports suggest he will also miss the FA Cup clash against Barnsley this weekend, judging by his comments, Aguero certainly sounds optimistic of a quick recovery. While he may not be ruled out for any length of time, the uncertainty that still surrounds Gameweek 29 is a real issue. Currently, City don’t have a fixture with their home clash against Wigan yet to be rescheduled – Fantasy managers are still hoping a decision will be made on this, one way or the other, in order to aid out planning ahead of the weekend’s deadline. Despite having scored just once in his last five, Aguero remains Mancini’s first-choice forward but his 6% owners are already scouring the market for replacements as a result of last night’s absence.

Tevez Showing Form
The Argentine was handed his first start in four as a result of his compatriot’s absence and secured the points with a coolly taken finish. Tevez has now notched in back-to-back Gameweeks, having climbed off the bench to grab City’s second against Chelsea last time out, but questions remain over his starting berth. Once again, Roberto Mancini rolled out a 4-5-1 formation for the trip to Villa – a clear sign that, despite United’s significant lead at the top of the table, the City boss is content to grind out victories; if Aguero is fit, there’s every chance Tevez will drop back to the bench.

Although his decision to send on Edin Dzeko to partner Tevez proved decisive, his hand was somewhat forced after Jack Rodwell was forced off with a recurrence of his hamstring problem; indeed, despite a slim one-goal advantage, Mancini’s caution was highlighted by Tevez’s withdrawal on 75 minutes, as Samir Nasri’s introduction allowed City to return to a five-man midfield, with Dzeko the lone forward. In spite of Tevez’s form, an early return for Aguero, coupled with a likely blank Gameweek 29 and a schedule that sees the champions travel to Everton, United and Spurs in their next five, is more than enough to dissuade Fantasy managers from snapping up Tevez right now.

City’s Defensive Resilience
Similar to neighbours United, Roberto Mancini’s outfit are stepping up in defensive resilience as the season enters the final straight. While United registered their fourth consecutive clean sheet in Saturday’s win over Norwich, City’s 1-0 win was the sixth time in the last eight Gameweeks they have kept out their opponents – three of those clean sheets have arrived in the last five, despite Vincent Kompany’s calf injury absence. Although Pablo Zabaleta owners will be happy to hold, that above-mentioned schedule could deter some from investing in the City rearguard despite their impressive form at the back. Zabaleta’s propensity to pick up points at both ends of the pitch has been crucial over the last few months – he has either scored, assisted or registered a clean sheet in 10 of his last 13 appearances now.

Villa Midfield Problems
With attacking returns in four of his previous five Gameweeks, Charles N’Zogbia was one of the league’s in-form midfielders heading into last night’s fixture. The former Wigan man looked a possible option ahead of a couple of crucial matches – Villa now face the bottom two in a pair of proverbial six-pointers, with a weekend trip to Reading preceding a home game with QPR, but Paul Lambert’s decision to withdraw the Frenchman on 64 minutes perhaps places question marks over his game time. Lambert is also without Fabian Delph for that pair of fixtures – the combative midfielder earned his tenth caution of the campaign and will now serve a two-match ban.

    An ode to lady luck:

For mile long weeks she shunned my poor crew
Left me to wallow in my self-made stew
Accursed, forsaken, my mood fell low
And with it my hopes of a decent ranking
Then all of a sudden, with no forewarn
Her favoured eye gleamed and at last looked my way
Down went Sergio, and up stepped Luis
The armband it passed to the one most worthy
Davies answered the bugle call too
45 to 77, with one player played
Lady Luck, I thank thee; forgiveness is yours

I know Stoke's form is shocking but I honestly believe that at some point they have to turn the corner and get some clean sheets again. Wigan always improve towards the end of the season too.

    X (Jussi, Rudd)
    Harte Davies (Evra, Zabs, Demel)
    Bale Sissoko Guthrie* (Mata, Walcott)
    Sturridge Fletcher Benteke

Any ideas would be appreciated, 11.9 in the bank.

Chelsea fixtures after this blank look good so could look at Lampard or Hazard if you can wait a week. Demel to Debuchy/Santon perhaps as their fixtures also look great? Will be nice to have money and transfers ready for dgw bonanza though so I wouldn't go too crazy.

Yeah, Fletcher to RVP next week I think. Then I'll see how the money is. Was considering going for a Newcastle defender and definitely like it long-term but bringing a defender in for a hit is rarely profitable. Which is why I'd be leaning more towards shifting Guthrie. But Guthrie is purely there for bench fodder.

I really love it, all the characters just seem to get into their stride as time goes on. Some of the best episodes are absolute classic television. Basically once Rob Lowe joins the cast, it's all good!

It's looking like I'll just hang fire and hope my rival does the same. He has more players involved but I'm 60 ahead. I am inexplicably troubled by having no goalie, but that's how it stays!

Hoping only the 6 games are on this week, as my nearest rival in my work ML has 9 players out (plus Sterling which makes 10 right now...)

Good chance for me to extend a lead (see above, have 10 players for GW29), and allows me time to get plenty of DGW players in to cover his team going forward.

Options are fairly paltry to be honest if you will want to hold onto them long term. Sissoko is definitely the best option IMO, but Newcastle play on Thursday, so you may want to wait a couple of days before moving him in, just in case.

Stick with Kebe as we cant afford the 6.6ish midfielders and there isnt much below that value.

Mata will go down by 0.3 (already down by 0.2)....and i think that will continue into the next GW...0.5 profit to be had by shipping him out and bringing in Coutinho/Gerrard/Siss/Sess and the swapping back for his good fixtures...Worth having...

Was Hoilett that instrumental to the win? oh ... I see he assisted it. Damn

Are people still keeping RVP or ditching over the blank?

3 reasons why I might keep:
-has Reading (H) and good chance to start since it's 6 days after FA cup and international break follows
-DGW, hopefully in the very near future
    -it's RVP!

3 reasons why I might sell:
-blank (9 starting for me at best)
-Suarez is in form and could go on a tear
    -price

if he falls in the next couple of days I might transfer out on the basis that I'd bring him in again before subsequent rise in value. I already have Suarez and am struggling to find an alternative that has a really good chance of returning points. Whoever I choose will probably bring me 2 points before being transferred out again

for your first two reasons why you might keep:

      - "has Reading (H) and good chance to start since it’s 6 days after FA cup and international break follows"

Also keeping him. Bit worried about not having Suarez-Bale for the long term, but I'm more concerned about the DGW and jumping the ranks.

What worries me is if United win the title too early, they could shift their attention to the FA and CL, which means bad news for RVP owners most likely. Thinking Rooney could be equal RVP's returns from here til the end, also frees up a lot of cash not to mention a differential at 6% ownership. Food for thought at the moment, but currently I'm holding onto him through the blank.
