We roll out our regular look at the goings-on in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) this afternoon. As always, we cast an eye over the top five in the Scout League and also turn our attentions to the transfer market, as many Fantasy managers change tactics in order to cope with the headache that has become Gameweek 29.

Scout League Standings

Kelvin Travers remains at the Scout League summit, despite scoring just 51 points last time around. Jussi Jaaskelainen and Ben Davies produced 15 points between them at the back, while Gareth Bale, Theo Walcott and Robin Van Persie all produced the goods, somewhat atoning for Juan Mata’s six point armband return. Kelvin sits on 1852 points, third place overall and 27 points off the top.

Up to second place is Sanjeev Karki after a 71 point haul in Gameweek 28. Luis Suarez and Carlos Tevez combined for 25 points up top, with Walcott, Bale and captain Mata amongst a midfield five. At the back, Jaaskelainen was joined by Jose Enrique and Ian Harte in picking up the points – Sanjeev is now in seventh spot overall, with 1844 points to his name.

Paul O Gorman moved up to third, having racked up 74 points last time out. His decision to captain Marouane Fellaini paid off with 24 points, while Bale, Walcott, Suarez and Van Persie all producing attacking returns. Paul is now13th overall, with 1836 points accrued.

A familiar name sits in fourth spot. Site regular Evs continues to climb the rankings thanks to an 81 point haul in Gameweek 28. Captain Bale, Walcott, Fellaini, Suarez and Van Persie all picked up attacking points, while David De Gea and Ben Davies boosted his tally with a clean sheet apiece. Now up to 14th in the overall standings, Evs currently sits on 1835 points.

Inge Larsen completes the top five after a fantastic 89 point haul. The only one of our five to captain Suarez, he also benefitted from Bale, Walcott and Fellaini, while Davies was joined by Guy Demel and Pablo Zabaleta in producing the defensive points. Inge has leapt to 16th in the overall standings, with 1830 points.

Thanks to the performances of our top five, Fantasy Football Scout remains at the top of the best leagues – our lead has been whittled down to just 1.4 points by the FFS Members league, though. This is mainly down to the fact that world number one Julian Ziparro leads the way there – incredibly, he is 44 points ahead of Evs in second spot. Julian registered 74 points last weekend, with captain Bale, Fellaini, Suarez, Demel and Patrice Evra all boosting his tally to 1879 points – affording him a 21 point cushion over second spot heading into the weekend.

For contributors, Anorak has made his way to the summit courtesy of an 85 point Gameweek. His decision to captain Suarez away to Wigan paid off with 34 points, while Van Persie, Fellaini and Walcott were joined by Davies, Zabaleta and Jonny Evans’ clean sheets. Anorak has climbed to 1410th spot overall, with 1721 points.

Market Trends

Gareth Bale and Luis Suarez are the most popular players on Fantasy radars by some distance this week. The duo go head-to-head at Anfield and Bale’s seven goals in five matches have already persuaded 82,000 to snap him up, while Suarez’s hat-trick away at Wigan last Saturday has earned him 78,000 new owners.

Midfields are being shaped up considerably this week and, aside from Bale, Michu, Moussa Sissoko and Philippe Coutinho have also appealed. The latter pair have flourished since arriving on these shores in January and been acquired by 38,000 and 37,000 respectively, while the Swansea man has mirrored Coutninho’s popularity this week. Steven Gerrard and Stephane Sessegnon have also been acquired in significant numbers. Up top, a trio of in-form budget friendly options have picked up considerable interest. Romelu Lukaku (42,000), Christian Benteke (37,000) and Rickie Lambert (34,000) have all received plenty new owners, while QPR’s new boy Loic Remy has been picked up by almost 26,000 after returning to the starting line-up with a goal at Southampton last Saturday.

At the back, Seb Bassong has been the most in-demand defender. The Norwich centre-half has a strong set of fixtures from here on in and looks a canny long-term acquisition – almost 25,000 have picked him up, while Liverpool full-backs Jose Enrique and Glen Johnson have been almost neck and neck for trades in, with around 20,000 apiece. Swansea pair Ben Davies and Angel Rangel have also seen plenty investment – the full-backs have both acquired around 12,000+ new owners. In goal, Mark Bunn’s budget appeal for Norwich has helped him to almost 9,000 transfers in, mirroring the interest in Sunderland’s Simon Mignolet.

For trades out, the reduced schedule has obviously played a significant part. Juan Mata and Theo Walcott lead the way by some distance, with 70,000 owners jumping ship – both have decent fixtures to follow, though, and are likely to pick up plenty more interest after the blank is done. Robin Van Persie has also suffered this week, with 53,000 parting company with the Dutchman – more than double any other forward.

Marouane Fellaini has also been party to plenty transfers out, with 37,000 making their excuses due to the Belgian’s blank. His Everton team mate Leighton Baines has shed 15,000 owners – more than the suspended Robert Huth for defenders, while elsewhere, a lack of game time and form respectively have seen Arsenal forwards Lukas Podolski and Olivier Giroud moved on by over 22,000 owners to accommodate the likes of Lukaku and Benteke.

not really Mark. Like you I'm looking to offload Pog and it's a choice between Benteke, Lukaku and Remy. I prefer Lukaku long term I think, but I'm not sure he's captain material this week. I know you are going Lukaku. When can I expect this versus article?

He's almost in a completely different category to the likes of Sturridge, Benteke and Lambert.

It's hard to directly compare them when you consider their price.

Remy is probably better value, but I can see Benteke scoring more.

Don't have him, I thing he looks a quality player, and Redknapp has watched him for a number of seasons. Would actually see him as a potential better fit for Arsenal up front as opposed to Giroud. The piece QPR need to solve is their midfield. No one there directing the traffic last week. What I'm basically saying is that if they can control the midfield, and get the ball to him, then could be a snip. Taraabt has to play a Silva type role just of him imo.

Repost from bottom of the last page

Getting rid of Pog, Fellaini & Baines for Suarez, X and Y.

X is currently Gardner and Y is Saylor. Getting Gardner leaves me with no benching headaches for the future, and Newcastle are improving.

Budget is 9.8. Any other suggestions?

(@Laernu - not if I get Gardner, 0.1 and 0.2 short of Santon and Debuchy, respectively ðŸ™

I'm finding choosing a captain this week harder than previous weeks. I've usually had an instinctual hunch the last few weeks but this week I'm a bit puzzled.

Suarez - home advantage, could be a high scoring game, form is strong, Sturridge back however
Bale - Excellent away from home, form is outrageous, might not get as much chances as he's been getting in previous weeks. Scored in this fixture earlier on.
Benteke - Excellent away form this season, playing a team on a poor run of form and he scored in this fixture at home. Potential to explode.
Lukaku - Really great home form, consistent and with Long out he's likely to lead the line again meaning he will perhaps have more chances than usual. Downside is Swansea are usually a stubborn outfit away from home.

    Hmmm...

I'd narrow it down to Bale or Suarez as they're a lot more consistent (an important factor when considering captains).

Suarez edges it on the fixture IMO, but Bale could run rings round any defence at the moment.

Sure but do you not think that considering the type of GW it is (with limited fixtures/picks) that Benteke/Lukaku are decent options? Suarez and Bale playing each other makes it significantly harder to choose between them and I'd argue that Benteke and Lukaku are playing weaker defences than Bale and Suarez are respectively.

That said, I am envisaging a high scoring game so there might be a lot of chances for both.

I'm not thinking too much about fixtures to be honest. I find it better to look at individual form and potential first, but that's just my approach.

They're decent options this week, but Suarez and Bale are better IMO.

          Lack of match fitness.

As far as I know, when you're coming back from a long-term injury, it's important to take things slowly as players often pick up other injuries during this period.

Now I know you have Sissoko, I'm stumped

Historically he's been very frustrating to own. He's good at screamers and dribbling past entire defences but he doesn't get a lot of shots in the box.

just pulled the trigger in the samba v newcastke defender decision. these were the tie-breakers.

    - stoke and sunderland are both pretty notorious for being goal-shy, especially away. however sunderland have scored in 9 of thier last 10 on the road, stoke in 4 of their last 10 on the road.

    - so which newcastle defender? this was a very short term choice, possibly even just for this gameweek. therefore with stoke being very shot-shy and good on set-pieces i can't see it being a block fest or goal-threat fest for the centre backs. i therefore think chasing the assist is more logical, so debuchy or santon, toss a coin, my coin said dubuchy due to more attacking threat in previous seasons

    My team for this gameweek:

    Mignolet (Rudd)

Russel Martin - Davies (Zabaleta, Gibbs!? and Demel)

Bale - Michu - Sissoko - Puncheon (Walcott)

    Lambert - Suarez (C) - Cisse

Does anyone know whether the changes to the comments system are going to bring back the availability of making things bold, italic or struck-through?

If you don't remember this then you missed out, massively. I am so seriously, it was awesome.

shame. The fact we could do it in the normal comment boxes was very user-friendly. Not sure why the update to the site (ages ago) got rid of it to be honest.

    Afternoon noon

It's time to turn to the collective brain of ffs to try and help me out. At the moment i have 9 starting as I cannot imagine Guthrie ever playing a game.

    Bego (fed)
Mariappa, Wilson, Martin R (zab, o'brien)
    Guthrie, Bale, Michu (Mata, Walcott)
    Suarez, Lambert, Benteke

I brought Benteke in this week and looking at:
    Guthrie---> Siss for a 4ph

The only problem with that is that I cannot buy RVP next week unless I sell Lambert and downgrade mata to an £8.2m midfielder (Oscar, Fellaini). Alternatively I could bring Rooney in but who knows if he will play.

    Any thoughts would be appreciated!

I brought him in after he played back to back away to Arsenal and Man City, and Skrtel was even fit then. He's been playing in Europe and in the league, so Rodgers isnt even rotating him, and it's his last season so they might let him play through to the end now. He's got me some good points recently.

    The team

    Bunn (Bego)
    Cameron Davies Turner Harte
    Bale Michu (VC) Sissoko (C)
    Sturridge Lambert
bench: Jevans, RVP, Mata, Walcott. 3.4m in the bank ,.

Thinking of saving a transfer and having 2 FT next week. More value in getting double GW players than what is the table this GW no? I will need to sell them for a hit after few GW's anyway no? have 10 players playing Cameron included.

    Thoughts?

Yep. I think having 2 FT moving forward could be worth a ton of points. Your in a decent spot there compared to many, however the many will be laughing come the DGW's. Save the transfer to help compensate i think.

Hi guys would really appreciate some input with this weeks transfer(s)

I'm pretty well set up, have closed a 120pt ML gap to just 7pts over the last 8 weeks.

I have 10 starting hopefully this week and 2 FT. 0.0mil in the bank.

    Bego (Turnbull!)

    Enrique, Wilson, Harte, Clyne. (azpili)

    Sissoko, Bale, Michu, (Fellaini, Walcott)

    Suarez, Sturridge, (RVP)

Obviously wanna try to carry 2FT into next week for DGW announcements.

    Thoughts so far....

Turnbull to 3.9mil allows bego to DDG next week but now a rotation issue so not sure.
Turnbull to Bunn might be worth a few points by the end of the season and gives some Norwich coverage(great fixtures). But unlikely to yeild anything this week.
Bego to Bunn free's up 0.9mil and Bunn could be used every (almost) week till the end.

In terms of getting 11 out this week my only options are Fellaini to someone lke Snodgrass. I'll almost certaintly want Fellers back in though so 2 transferss for a 1 week punt on Snod seems a big gamble.

Considering RVP to Lukaku this week then Sturridge to RVP next week. Would sort the issue of having 3 Liverpool (never a happy place for me).

Really wanna drive home my advantage over the next couple of weeks and this weeks transfers could be key.

    Any help would be mighty!
    Cheers

Why write a question when you can write an autobiography eh? 😉

Bale is the player missing from your machinations, I'd swap Mata to Bale. Wouldn't bother with messing about with keepers and consider fellaini to lampard or oscar for next weeks move.

sorry bout the lenght of the "comment"

I've tried keeping it more concise in the past but respondents have almost without fail completely missed the point!

          Ahem 😉

Regards Fellaini he's Evertons top scorer, main threat, fixture proof and OOP. With DGW confirmed all for 7.4mil.If you can find better then you should share with the whole class!

dgw is subject to wigan knocking them out in the cup though i believe. He has been an excellent asset until now but fixtures have taken a turn for the worse. He could prove me wrong of course but there's definitely a trend to get rid from many posters on here.

Fell to Sissoko is the obvious move this week for many. With him already in my team I'm left with Nzogbia or Snodgrass neither of which fill me with confidence. Fellers as a differential amongst the top players could be worth a ton of places in the overall if he keeps his season going to the end.

The last trend on here was a massive push for everyone to get Fletcher!

I've been thinking.....regarding the sale of future DGWers.

By selling say RVP (mata, walcott, fellaini etc) this week your essentially committing to using two transfers as you will want them back for impending DGW. Those 2 transfers could easily be used to bring in 2 additioanl DGWers down the line so that in effect your swapping in a 90 mins for this GW for 360 mins down the road.

    Any thoughts?

DGW are still relatively far away... I'm keeping RVP, Walcott, Zabaleta because I think they are essential... but I will probably sell Mata for Sissoko because I can get someone else for Chelsea cover (Lampard, Oscar, Hazard, Ba...)

I think Mata might be the exception. With relatively poor form, fixture pile up & Rafatation along with easily identifiable cheaper options in the Chelsea Midfield it makes perfect sense to sell him now. I've not had him since January and has been a blessing lately.

    Views on my team gents

    Begovic
    Harte
    Davies
    Cameron (Doubtful)
    Michu
    Sissoko
    Bale
    Suarez
    Sturrige
    Lambert

    Bench

    Mata
    Baines
    Walcott
    De Gea

With Cameron doubtful from now on i'm thinking of Bassong for a 4 point hit, good fixtures and should be good for 4 points a game i think

Why not Samba/Debuchy? or even Martin if you want a nor defender?
Not sure how much you have in the bank, but you might also want to anticipate getting a MUN striker for next week
