Friday evening’s final article sees us pick our way through the weekend’s depleted schedule to highlight another trio of overlooked alternatives. Our headline act has hit the ground running since arriving from Serie A in the winter transfer window, while the remaining couple of protagonists have crucial home battles on their respective agendas tomorrow afternoon.

Philippe Coutinho

While he’s been somewhat overshadowed by the exploits of fellow Anfield new boy Daniel Sturridge, the Brazilian is starting to look a canny acquisition. Whether in a 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3 formation, Coutinho is flourishing on the left for Liverpool and, having grabbed a goal in the 5-0 win over Swansea on his home debut, followed that up with a pair of impressive assists in last Saturday’s romp at Wigan.

Fantasy managers have been suitably impressed. Coutinho’s mid-price appeal has already persuaded over 38,000 to snap up his services in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game – making him the fourth most popular midfielder this week, with his price rising from 6.5 to 6.6 as a result of his recent endeavours. Brendan Rodgers has been quick to laud his displays, too. While admitting the 20-year-old is currently “up to 65 to 70 minutes” as he builds his fitness, the Reds boss enthused:

“He’s adapted and fit in very well. He’s a very talented young player who is a wonderful technician. Tactically, he participates in the game well and understands this way of working and playing.”

With Rodgers limiting Raheem Sterling’s game time due to concerns over fatigue, Coutinho certainly looks to have the platform to establish himself in the Reds’ first XI from here on in. Knocked out of the FA Cup and now devoid of European duties, Liverpool can now focus fully on the league and are set for a superb run of fixtures that could boost their chances of a strong finish in Rodgers’ first season in charge. While a home clash with Tottenham is tough to call, the following four fixtures sees them travel to three of the current bottom five (sou, avl, rea) and with a home clash against West Ham also on the agenda, Coutinho (who comes in at just 5.5 in the Sky Sports game) looks a real differential for this weekend and beyond.

Adam Le Fondre

A three-match ban for Pavel Pogrebnyak has afforded Reading’s “super sub” the chance to prove himself in the first-team. Having notched each of his last six goals after climbing off the bench, the diminutive forward was handed his first start since Gameweek 16 last weekend as Brian McDermott shifted to 4-4-2 as a result of the Russian’s absence.

With Pogrebnyak still sidelined for two more fixtures, Le Fondre’s starting berth looks secure in the short-term – while a trip to Old Trafford next weekend is hardly enticing, a home clash with fellow strugglers Villa could appeal to Fantasy managers looking for a one week punt for Gameweek 29. A win for the Royals at the Madejski would take them above their midlands rivals and could, potentially, see them scramble out the bottom three before they pay visit to United and Arsenal in back-to-back Gameweeks – all the more incentive for McDermott’s side to produce, then, before the schedule turns nasty.

Priced at just 5.0 in FPL and 6.5 in the Sky Sports game, the stage seems set in this proverbial six-pointer for Le Fondre to stake his claim for a regular starting berth and help fire the Royals to safety.

Junior Hoilett

It’s not been the best of seasons for the former Blackburn man so far. Having opted for QPR over Bundesliga outfit Borussia Monchengladbach last summer, Hoilett has cut a peripheral figure for the Loftus Road outfit, with hamstring injuries scuppering much of his campaign. Finally recovered from the problems, the Canadian was handed his first start under Harry Redknapp last weekend, taking up a spot on the left flank as Adel Taarabt unexpectedly dropped out.

The decision proved decisive, though. Hoilett played a pivotal part as the R’s won for the first time in seven – providing an assist for Loic Remy’s opener, he also picked up a single FPL bonus point for a display that bristled with both industry and creative endeavour. Compared to the Moroccan’s somewhat lacklustre approach, Hoilett’s work-rate may well have helped cement a starting berth for tomorrow’s crucial home clash with Sunderland as Redknapp looks to engineer back-to-back victories for the first time this term.

Coming in at 5.6 in FPL and 7.1 in the Sky Sports game, Hoilett also has games against Villa, Fulham and Wigan in the following three and could well be primed to produce if Redknapp keeps faith in his abilities.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Just a word about the whole Bale (C) vs Suarez (C)

    A few points here:

    1) None of the Liverpool defenders have the pace that Bale does + the full backs are very attacking which will leave Bale with opportunities, if he cuts inside then he'll be running at Carra (the fossil) and Agger.

    2) Suarez, while undeniably playing brilliant football, will be dealing with a much improved Spurs defence who may not have his pace but have strength to counter it. It may all hinge on whether or not Sturridge is playing.

I actually think that Bale may wind up a better choice of the two this GW, both in excellent form, Bale with potentially a better chance at getting by defenders.

It's tough when you include other players

Benteke - Against a crap defence but the delivery and support from his team is equally crap
Lukaku - Against a decent defence, may be able to bully them but WBA have slid into a comfortable state of not really caring too much anymore
Michu - Similar to WBA, Swansea are happy, they're on for a good league position, they have their silverware and they've extended Laudrup's contract.

While I want to be rogue and go with Benteke or Michu it's tough to fully justify.

I can see the logic here. I'm just a bit terrified of not captaining Suarez for some reason at the minute. The home form of Suarez vs the away form of Bale pretty much makes them equal in a vacuum. But as you said Spurs are a mean outfit at the back. Something tells me there'll be a few goals in this game though so it's possible both will score equally.

Very true and going one over the other is becoming increasingly worrying for me too, don't want to ignore Suarez but I can't believe that AVB won't have a plan to deal with him (I'm sure BR has a plan to deal with Bale the issue is who is fast enough to take Bale out of the game?)

I think RVP is knackered and has gotten a bit complacent (hasnt scored in a month). Rooney will be fuelled by anger as he trys to prove a point to Fergie and potential suitors. Really think he is the way to go for the rest of the season.

It's a terrible reason to captain someone, but I do like having them playing in the last game of the GW.

Villa could put in a poor show, and Suarez is probably going to have twice as many shots as the whole Villa team put together, just because he always does.

This is what I mean, it'll be scary watching him have those chances if my captain pick is a fail on Saturday. I'll be wanting him to keep the score down. Which feels wrong.

I can just see Pool giving it a right go and they might cause Spurs problems who had a tough game on Thursday lets not forget.

    Hey guys, two things:

First, let me say thanks for all the help, you guys are great. I've made up a 120 point gap to top my mini league over the last 10 weeks with your help.

Now onto business. Worth a -4 hit to pick up Enrique in place of Nelson's ghost?

    Mignolet
    Martins - Shaw - Dawson
    Henderson - Sissoku - Bale
    Bentekke - Lukkaku (C) - Suarez

    *Bunn - Nelson - Demel - Mata - Walcott

You know, I think it is. I know that you should never usually take a hit for a defender, but in this case, you're getting someone out who will never play for you again, for someone that you will probably keep all season.

      I'd say go for it!

Right, fewer potential scorers at Spurs, Bale is the dominant goalscorer. Suarez has Sturridge, Coutinho, Gerrard etc for competition. That said I am a little worried that Spurs might miss Lennon if he is truly out, so the goalscoring pie might get smaller or non existent...

Im 0.1 short for RVP next week, do you reckon it makes sense to do Zab>Samba for a -8 to free up funds for RVP? Or go with Rooney and 10 this week. thx for any thoughts. xx

Is it just me that thinks Reading may get a result against Villa?

I know Reading have been weak against a big target man (Lukaku, Kone), but 6ft 4 Morrison is back fit and Villa are just not laying on the chances for Benteke at the moment.

As I have Pearce I hope Morrison does not play, that said I hope Pearce only gets 1 point as I want Benteke to score a hat-trick so I guess that 1 point means nothing really.

Hmm, cant see Reading losing the plot with this one. Back to a (forced) 451, i think theyll keep it tight and counter.

        Huge game for Villa's youngsters.

    Cesar
    Pearce / Cuellar / Davies / Johnson
Sissoko / Kebe / Bale (vc)
    Suarez (c) / Sturridge / Lambert

    Bunn / Mata / Walcott / Evans J

I can field 11 men this week If I'm lucky (Cuellar & Kebe start).

So yeah, I'm gonna captain Suarez. I don't see many getting outlandish points this GW so I'm not going to deliberate over my captain choice this week. I feel filthy fielding a Villa player and two Southampton players as it is, I'm not going to make it worse..

That's right, the second you give a Villa player the armband then Reading actually start playing and pinning them back! They did draw 2-2 with Chelsea at home about a month ago, so if they manage to do that well again Villa won't be much of a problem!

    I can't believe Bale is now 10.7m

    😯

It was coming though...I remember when he scored his hat-trick I felt I'd missed a huge opportunity and that he'd never be cheap enough for me to get him in without a hit. Then luckily he got suspended so the rise was halted. Bale was looking out for me that day...his diving might offend some but it saved my season. 🙂
