Another busy Friday draws to a close with our regular article focussing on a trio of overlooked alternatives ahead of tomorrow’s deadline. We’ve opted for a couple of summer signings who are finally starting to find their feet, with our third pick a previous Fantasy favourite who has only recently come in from the cold.

Shinji Kagawa

Hopes were high last summer when United prised the playmaker away from Dortmund, with many Fantasy managers eyeing up the Japanese star for their five-man midfields. Kagawa’s exploits in “the hole” were pivotal to Jurgen Klopp’s side achieving the league and cup double in Germany last term and a central role behind Wayne Rooney was expected this season as United looked to steal the title back from City. Then Robin Van Persie arrived and the whole dynamic changed.

Kagawa eased himself into the season at Old Trafford. Starting six of the first seven Gameweeks, he notched two goals and an assist before a knee injury struck, sidelining him until Gameweek 20 – four starts in the following five harvested just a single assist and suggested Kagawa hadn’t quite acclimatised to the frantic surrounds of the Premier League. Ferguson took him out the firing line for the next three before handing him a start in the previous league match as Norwich rolled up to Old Trafford.

While Van Persie disappointed with an assist in the 4-0 win and Rooney chipped in with a goal and two assists, it was Kagawa’s day. A dazzling hat-trick finally announced his arrival to England’s top-flight and registered an incredible 21 point haul against the Canaries and with Nani hamstrung and both Antonio Valencia and Ashley Young woefully off form right now, the stage seems set for Kagawa once more tomorrow as Reading make their way to Old Trafford.

With his side 12 points clear with 10 games remaining, Ferguson has spoken of his determination to close in on the title by going on the offensive and while Rooney and Van Persie, in particular, earn the Fantasy interest, Kagawa looks an enticing option this weekend. Coming in at just 7.9 in FPL and 7.6 in the Sky Sports game, he could steal the show once again as the league leaders look to put the managerless Royals to the sword.

Oscar

While he’s flourished on the European stage this season, the young Brazilian has failed to make any real impact on the domestic front. Six Champions League games for Chelsea produced five goals and an assist, with some stunning strikes underlining his undoubted quality, but when it comes to the Premier League it’s fair to say that Oscar has been hugely disappointing from a Fantasy perspective.

As Juan Mata and Eden Hazard run back-fours ragged, producing 17 goals and 24 FPL assists between them, Oscar has found the net just once, with six assists also thrown in. It’s not as if he’s suffered from a lack of game time – 17 starts and eight sub appearances highlight the level of regularity with which he graces the Chelsea first-team; even under Rafa Benitez he has rarely suffered from rotation, with seven starts in the last nine almost as good as it gets under the Spaniard.

Denied time and again by Ben Foster in the West Brom goal in his previous league match, Oscar is starting to hint at an upturn in Fantasy potential and has been desperately unlucky not to get amongst the points in his last few appearances for the Blues. With a home game against West Ham up next, the youngster is afforded another chance to finally turn his hugely promising Opta statistics into Fantasy points this weekend. Priced at just 7.8 in FPL (5.8 in the Sky Sports game) he offers an intriguing mid-price alternative to the likes of Mata, Hazard and Frank Lampard amongst Benitez’s midfield as the hosts return to domestic duties after Thursday’s Europa League win over Steaua Bucharest.

Stewart Downing

Subject of a Members article earlier today, the Liverpool winger has already earned over 12,000 new owners in the FPL game this week after a series of impressive displays on the right flank.

The acquisition of Daniel Sturridge and a resultant change of formation from 4-3-3 to 4-2-3-1 seems to have afforded Brendan Rodgers’ side a new lease of life and, after a disappointing season and a half on Merseyside, Downing has finally started to produce. An assist in the Gameweek 26 win over Swansea was followed by goals against Wigan and Tottenham and with bonus points collected in those last two, Downing has picked up 24 points over his previous trio of fixtures.

While a trip to Southampton looks promising tomorrow, the Reds also travel to Villa and Reading in the next four and entertain West Ham at Anfield in Gameweek 32. Having started each of the last 14 under Rodgers, Downing is proving a key figure in their push for a top six finish and priced at just 5.8 in FPL and 5.0 in the Sky Sports game, is starting to suggest he is a viable option to the likes of Steven Gerrard and new boy Philippe Coutinho in the Reds midfield.

Hmm, i think you`re going to have most of the big guns in your team anyway. Even if you get in someone punty like say Kagawa, youre never ever going to captain him over RVP/Rooney anyway.

if your willing to take a risk and make the right captain choices, it could pay off big time. but obviously there is huge risk to this, because if you captain a differential and he fails and a big ownership player scores well, you'll be in a sea of red arrows.

If you watched any football you would know what is wrong with saying that. Hangeland is fecking gigantic but that doesn't seem to help him pick up points at set pieces does it?

Davies has already managed a goal and 2 assist in his short career. That's about 3 seasons worth of attacking stats for Distin

Has a bearing in recent results, similiar teams in terms of players, playing each other, Moyes has worked out tactics which work against them. Looking at records that go further back have little relevance.

I just think Everton are less likely to concede loads than Swansea against Arsenal, realistically they will both get 1/2 points but I reckon Distin is more likely to get 2 🙂

Gylfi's an interesting shout but I would avoid 'dead leg' like the plague. I had Ramirez when he went out with 'dead leg' (really, wtf is that?) early in the season and he turned up about 4 weeks later.

I already own him, so mite give him a week before I sell. Dead leg is like when you get a knock from someone's knee right in the middle of your thigh, its basically a sore muscle, causes discomfort when moving but usually can be ran off if only minor.

Something lost in translation between American and English, maybe. Ramirez' dead leg was - apparently - a "dead" leg because the MoFo missed 4 GWs.

Ryan I'm not being over the top. My comment was moderate and polite. Two people were having a somewhat interesting discussion about the morality of charity, bingo made some interesting points. Then he posts a link, accompanied by no comment, to a book that claims absolute authority on moral truth, a book that's responsible for countless suffering as well as being a force for good. A book we're are told if we disagree with and don't live by we should go to hell. I think most people of different beliefs would find it a bit insulting on some level to post that link to define what is right and wrong

The way you're posting you'd think there was one charity and only one day of the year which you can donate.

I'd sooner donate money to fix the roads than feed people in another country, who obviously haven't learnt anything in the last 27 years.

As much as I love the idea, the reality is that it won't make a difference

Apologies for my drunken ramblings, I Don't often use the computer after the pub!

I'm sure the money donated since live aid has gone to good use, but from what i can see - not a lot has changed...

That's all very fine for you living in a place where there are roads that need to be fixed and it's reasonable to expect people to be self determining and reliant. The children who are starving and riddled with disease in these countries don't have such a privileged cushion to sit on however and need the help. The "reality" is that even if 10% of money donated makes its way to those kids, it will make a real difference.

I do understand your viewpoint, I really do.

But it seems llike one big vicious circle... We keep donating money, but it hasn't worked so far. At what point do we give up and deals with issues closer to home? Roads was a bad example, but an example none-the-less...

Would you like to bench Sisso or Snoddy? Scout picked Sisso over Snoddy, so definitely play Snoddy would be the better, right? At least he's on set piece

Talked mostly about McDermott's (in his opinion) unfair dismissal. Other than that, just that Nani and Jones are both out.

Michu & Lambert to Mata & Ba for a hit. Giving me:

    Mignolet
    Evans Zabaleta Enrique
    Mata Walcott Bale Sissoko
    Suarez Benteke Ba

Even though he didnt play thursday, its still Rafa. He might be benched again, you never know. I wouldnt think the reward is worth the risk when there are much safer and probably even better alternatives around.

Yeah. Got all my boys in last night, at enormous rates. But, i reckon prices will peak tomorrow evening, so i`m listing them up for sale once the PL kicks off 😀 Won it three times already, although i did splash out a LOT of coinage to get the team together. Some nice prizes though.

Nice 🙂 Wish I had invested in them before the tourny! The prices are really Nice, 3 times champion that's a lot of coins mate 🙂

Yeah i should have invested myself if i was a little bit clever. I bought the regular Robbie Keane, and switched him for the in-form card a few hours later, and the price was almost 3x already 😛 Decent amount of coinage, 15k for the first time (offline and online), 1 free gold pack for both and then its 10k the next time and then 5k for each time after that 😉

I haven't made the transfers yet mate, it's either Lukaku + Evans or Beneteke and Harte. Already have Harte, so I'm bringing in Lukaku or Benteke, If i choose Benteke I can't afford Evans

Bring in Benteke. More involved, more secure and better on penos 😉 Evans is too much of a rotation risk atm anyway.

Roberto Mancini has lost more premier league games to David Moyes (5) than to any other PL manager.

There is some substance to this idea that Everton are usually quite good against City.
