Another busy Friday draws to a close with our regular article focussing on a trio of overlooked alternatives ahead of tomorrow’s deadline. We’ve opted for a couple of summer signings who are finally starting to find their feet, with our third pick a previous Fantasy favourite who has only recently come in from the cold.

Shinji Kagawa

Hopes were high last summer when United prised the playmaker away from Dortmund, with many Fantasy managers eyeing up the Japanese star for their five-man midfields. Kagawa’s exploits in “the hole” were pivotal to Jurgen Klopp’s side achieving the league and cup double in Germany last term and a central role behind Wayne Rooney was expected this season as United looked to steal the title back from City. Then Robin Van Persie arrived and the whole dynamic changed.

Kagawa eased himself into the season at Old Trafford. Starting six of the first seven Gameweeks, he notched two goals and an assist before a knee injury struck, sidelining him until Gameweek 20 – four starts in the following five harvested just a single assist and suggested Kagawa hadn’t quite acclimatised to the frantic surrounds of the Premier League. Ferguson took him out the firing line for the next three before handing him a start in the previous league match as Norwich rolled up to Old Trafford.

While Van Persie disappointed with an assist in the 4-0 win and Rooney chipped in with a goal and two assists, it was Kagawa’s day. A dazzling hat-trick finally announced his arrival to England’s top-flight and registered an incredible 21 point haul against the Canaries and with Nani hamstrung and both Antonio Valencia and Ashley Young woefully off form right now, the stage seems set for Kagawa once more tomorrow as Reading make their way to Old Trafford.

With his side 12 points clear with 10 games remaining, Ferguson has spoken of his determination to close in on the title by going on the offensive and while Rooney and Van Persie, in particular, earn the Fantasy interest, Kagawa looks an enticing option this weekend. Coming in at just 7.9 in FPL and 7.6 in the Sky Sports game, he could steal the show once again as the league leaders look to put the managerless Royals to the sword.

Oscar

While he’s flourished on the European stage this season, the young Brazilian has failed to make any real impact on the domestic front. Six Champions League games for Chelsea produced five goals and an assist, with some stunning strikes underlining his undoubted quality, but when it comes to the Premier League it’s fair to say that Oscar has been hugely disappointing from a Fantasy perspective.

As Juan Mata and Eden Hazard run back-fours ragged, producing 17 goals and 24 FPL assists between them, Oscar has found the net just once, with six assists also thrown in. It’s not as if he’s suffered from a lack of game time – 17 starts and eight sub appearances highlight the level of regularity with which he graces the Chelsea first-team; even under Rafa Benitez he has rarely suffered from rotation, with seven starts in the last nine almost as good as it gets under the Spaniard.

Denied time and again by Ben Foster in the West Brom goal in his previous league match, Oscar is starting to hint at an upturn in Fantasy potential and has been desperately unlucky not to get amongst the points in his last few appearances for the Blues. With a home game against West Ham up next, the youngster is afforded another chance to finally turn his hugely promising Opta statistics into Fantasy points this weekend. Priced at just 7.8 in FPL (5.8 in the Sky Sports game) he offers an intriguing mid-price alternative to the likes of Mata, Hazard and Frank Lampard amongst Benitez’s midfield as the hosts return to domestic duties after Thursday’s Europa League win over Steaua Bucharest.

Stewart Downing

Subject of a Members article earlier today, the Liverpool winger has already earned over 12,000 new owners in the FPL game this week after a series of impressive displays on the right flank.

The acquisition of Daniel Sturridge and a resultant change of formation from 4-3-3 to 4-2-3-1 seems to have afforded Brendan Rodgers’ side a new lease of life and, after a disappointing season and a half on Merseyside, Downing has finally started to produce. An assist in the Gameweek 26 win over Swansea was followed by goals against Wigan and Tottenham and with bonus points collected in those last two, Downing has picked up 24 points over his previous trio of fixtures.

While a trip to Southampton looks promising tomorrow, the Reds also travel to Villa and Reading in the next four and entertain West Ham at Anfield in Gameweek 32. Having started each of the last 14 under Rodgers, Downing is proving a key figure in their push for a top six finish and priced at just 5.8 in FPL and 5.0 in the Sky Sports game, is starting to suggest he is a viable option to the likes of Steven Gerrard and new boy Philippe Coutinho in the Reds midfield.

Demba Ba is likely to get the nod ahead of Fernando Torres up front after the Spaniard led the line against Steaua. Against West Ham, I think he is a good shout.

But do you really want him to be in your team? Most people here have a combination of front line like Suarez, MU striker plus a cheapie. Unless Ba will be your third striker, or else I would suggest you to follow this striker template.

Berbatov has been pretty consistent this year and with a DGW . . . also 0.4 cheaper than Lambert at this point. Also, I suspect Berbatov may break big at some point this year. Just a sense.

Yeah, I could just as easily save the Berba one for later, as I really haven't left myself with a great bench option this week. It's just Lambert has LIV/CHEL vs tot/QPR for Berbs. Plus I plan to load up on DGWers

I very much doubt i'll be using any transfers on goalies this season. In fact i can't remember ever using a transfer on a goalkeeper, that's what wildcards are for!

PS: If Bunn gets relegated straight back to the bench i may have to rethink it 🙁

I think Ruddy will go straight back in to the starting line-up. I'd even take a hit to bring in De Gea for Begovic as I think he'll outscore him by way more than 4 points between now and the end of the season.

That's not really the point though is it. Say for example instead of DDG i got a United defender. It's likely that's he'd outscore a stoke defender by a lot more than DDG would outscore Begovic.

The points threshold for goalies is just so low i pretty much never 'waste' a transfer on them

I was watching some of The Office earlier, and whilst falling deeper and deeper in love with Beesly, I heard Oscar say something that really stood out. During a debate, it's so hard to convince other people to see your views, because everyone has a habit of becoming entrenched in their own original opinion.

I admit, I was perhaps a little guilty of being defensive over getting RVP back in this week, so I decided to really explore the options for my team, as well as the form of the two, and the likelihood of any factors that could sway me in either direction.

I'm now fairly close to pressing the button to get Rooney in. Thanks, Oscar Martinez.

in fairness, why does anyone have to get into the spirit of anything? All you are saying is give money to a good cause which is perfectly fine and a nice thing to do. But don't shove it down people's throats with this 'spirit' stuff...you don't need to wear a red nose to prove you give a sh*t

Ok. To be perfectly honest, you - along with a few other relatively recent regular and highly visible posters - are one of the main reasons why I lost patience with this site.

The community used to work quite well; in the main reasoned debate - as opposed to the contemporary "me me me" trainwreck.

Nevermind that, what the hell are you accusing me of above?

The fact is you are out of nowhere insulting me and doing me a disservice which was uncalled for. I have never talked to you before nor have you engaged with me in any sort of discussion. I spend most of my time on here debating FPL decisions and engaging in discussions on players. Why do you feel hatred towards me? Have I insulted you in some way? I don't believe I have.

Seeing as you are accusing me of something that is totally false I find it hard to treat your comment with much regard.

Take it easy - I didn't say I hated you. And because I only post occasionally doesn't mean I can't have an opinion on the site and its community.

Not sure what you think I'm accusing you of - I just take issue with you not being a member, yet basically treating the site like your own backyard.

I believe that is close to the definition of a blog. If this is in your opinion the best post ever then you obviously don't get a whole lot from this forum do you? Unless of course you are being insincere, which is probably the more likely truth. In that case you are being deliberately provocative and not helping the situation.

I think the problem with this site is that all comments are commingled rather than separated into categories like in a 'proper' forum, and some people are pretty intolerant of off-topic posts. Unreal seems pretty knowledgeable on football, and his posts are always 'interesting', depending on your definition of interesting ;).

Basically, i'm ahead in almost every mini league and everyone behind me has RVP..

I'm torn behind mini leagues and trying to finish in as high a spot as possible! If mini league priority i'd go RVP but if overall is priority i'd go Rooney..

But I genuinely don't know what I want more, which do you think will benefit me more?

People seem to be weighing up over RVPs extra points will be made up for by the extra 2 million.

Rooney could outscore RVP for the last 9 weeks of the season.

As stated above, If RVP was outscoring Rooney significantly then I could draft in RVP with my wildcard..

Cisse is in good form as is Sissoko, Michu has such an high ownership its scary not to have him..

I think that when the dust has settled, especially after tomorrow, people might find that United won 3-0 and both got a goal and an assist, and that the argument wasn't really worth it after all 😀

Why would you risk private League and your overall rank on Rooney? If RvP does well and Rooney doesn't then you've blown your private league and the overall rank.

I don't know why anyone isn't talking about the impact of the Europa League draw. So I'll ask the question: with Newcastle, Chelsea, and Tottenham playing on April 4 and 11 do we anticipate a blank for GW 32, 33, or neither? I'd say Chelsea/Sunderland GW22 is off, as is Newcastle/Sunderland GW33. . . hate to have Sunderland players. Any other guesses?

Why? They're all Thursday games like always, so no impact on weekend fixtures...

So you think Chelsea will play on Thursday and then two days later on Saturday? I'm guessing no. The Newcastle/Sunderland GW33 will also probably be moved. See Newcastle ticket news:

Chelsea are currently playing that game. The Europa involvement is clearly going to drain those clubs playing and rotation of their full squad looks likely.

Gentlemen, while I fully appreciate that Benteke is in 'form' at the moment here's some food for thought...

-Benteke averages a full 1.5 ppg less at home this season
-3 of his next 4 are at Villa Park
-QPR & LIV are both playing well of late
-GW33 he 'could' be the odd man out making room for DGW players

    So my question is...
Have I levelled myself into missing out on a valuable FPL asset or is there better value to be found in this price range?

He's the best mid-priced striker imo.

I was thinking of going left field too, picking some differentials. It's all a bit of fun, so I'm looking forward it it 😀

Would love an ol' punt on Shinji this week but I am more inclined to wait and see if United have a confirmed double in GW33. Priority for me for the time being is to use the next 5 transfers (2 FT this week) over the next 4 GW's to build a team of guaranteed 6 DGW'ers and if United stay on, I'll have 9 DGW'ers without breaking a sweat or having to burn points.

Still can't decide between Sissoko and Remy to play. I am worried of Sissoko very high ownership among active players may hurt me, but Remy seems the more logical choice. Thoughts?

A lot on here seem to be benching Sissoko. Away from home, and after a tough game in midweek.

I fancy QPR to score tomorrow, and possibly win too.

I would prefer to be playing Remy, I am playing Sissoko but I had, don't laugh, Coutinho playing over him for most of the week until I was told I was mad and had to play Sissoko. Now that I look at it, it seems a no brainer for me, I am not convinced Newcastle will have an easy day at the DW, and I just have one of those feelings that Sissoko can't continue to score the way he has been.

      Remy.

Wigan's defensive stats are also much better than Villa.
