Another busy Friday draws to a close with our regular article focussing on a trio of overlooked alternatives ahead of tomorrow’s deadline. We’ve opted for a couple of summer signings who are finally starting to find their feet, with our third pick a previous Fantasy favourite who has only recently come in from the cold.

Shinji Kagawa

Hopes were high last summer when United prised the playmaker away from Dortmund, with many Fantasy managers eyeing up the Japanese star for their five-man midfields. Kagawa’s exploits in “the hole” were pivotal to Jurgen Klopp’s side achieving the league and cup double in Germany last term and a central role behind Wayne Rooney was expected this season as United looked to steal the title back from City. Then Robin Van Persie arrived and the whole dynamic changed.

Kagawa eased himself into the season at Old Trafford. Starting six of the first seven Gameweeks, he notched two goals and an assist before a knee injury struck, sidelining him until Gameweek 20 – four starts in the following five harvested just a single assist and suggested Kagawa hadn’t quite acclimatised to the frantic surrounds of the Premier League. Ferguson took him out the firing line for the next three before handing him a start in the previous league match as Norwich rolled up to Old Trafford.

While Van Persie disappointed with an assist in the 4-0 win and Rooney chipped in with a goal and two assists, it was Kagawa’s day. A dazzling hat-trick finally announced his arrival to England’s top-flight and registered an incredible 21 point haul against the Canaries and with Nani hamstrung and both Antonio Valencia and Ashley Young woefully off form right now, the stage seems set for Kagawa once more tomorrow as Reading make their way to Old Trafford.

With his side 12 points clear with 10 games remaining, Ferguson has spoken of his determination to close in on the title by going on the offensive and while Rooney and Van Persie, in particular, earn the Fantasy interest, Kagawa looks an enticing option this weekend. Coming in at just 7.9 in FPL and 7.6 in the Sky Sports game, he could steal the show once again as the league leaders look to put the managerless Royals to the sword.

Oscar

While he’s flourished on the European stage this season, the young Brazilian has failed to make any real impact on the domestic front. Six Champions League games for Chelsea produced five goals and an assist, with some stunning strikes underlining his undoubted quality, but when it comes to the Premier League it’s fair to say that Oscar has been hugely disappointing from a Fantasy perspective.

As Juan Mata and Eden Hazard run back-fours ragged, producing 17 goals and 24 FPL assists between them, Oscar has found the net just once, with six assists also thrown in. It’s not as if he’s suffered from a lack of game time – 17 starts and eight sub appearances highlight the level of regularity with which he graces the Chelsea first-team; even under Rafa Benitez he has rarely suffered from rotation, with seven starts in the last nine almost as good as it gets under the Spaniard.

Denied time and again by Ben Foster in the West Brom goal in his previous league match, Oscar is starting to hint at an upturn in Fantasy potential and has been desperately unlucky not to get amongst the points in his last few appearances for the Blues. With a home game against West Ham up next, the youngster is afforded another chance to finally turn his hugely promising Opta statistics into Fantasy points this weekend. Priced at just 7.8 in FPL (5.8 in the Sky Sports game) he offers an intriguing mid-price alternative to the likes of Mata, Hazard and Frank Lampard amongst Benitez’s midfield as the hosts return to domestic duties after Thursday’s Europa League win over Steaua Bucharest.

Stewart Downing

Subject of a Members article earlier today, the Liverpool winger has already earned over 12,000 new owners in the FPL game this week after a series of impressive displays on the right flank.

The acquisition of Daniel Sturridge and a resultant change of formation from 4-3-3 to 4-2-3-1 seems to have afforded Brendan Rodgers’ side a new lease of life and, after a disappointing season and a half on Merseyside, Downing has finally started to produce. An assist in the Gameweek 26 win over Swansea was followed by goals against Wigan and Tottenham and with bonus points collected in those last two, Downing has picked up 24 points over his previous trio of fixtures.

While a trip to Southampton looks promising tomorrow, the Reds also travel to Villa and Reading in the next four and entertain West Ham at Anfield in Gameweek 32. Having started each of the last 14 under Rodgers, Downing is proving a key figure in their push for a top six finish and priced at just 5.8 in FPL and 5.0 in the Sky Sports game, is starting to suggest he is a viable option to the likes of Steven Gerrard and new boy Philippe Coutinho in the Reds midfield.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

    a) zab & sturridge > wilson & rvp (destroys my back line)
    b) o’brien & sturridge > wilson & rooney
    c) save transfer & roll with suarez/sturridge/benteke (risk of no Manu attack)

            Ah there you are!

Let's take a position at a time. Okay, goalies. Let's ignore my two for starters. Do you want Bunn with Ruddy due back at the end of the month?

I offer you: Boruc (STH have some decent fix), Caesar (if fit) and the Villa goalie who has good fix and something to play for.

If we have Boruc, it slightly negates Clyne who I quite like but has the fix if we double up on STH.

Flume was benched in th last game. If u want uber keepers u want to keep it at 4.5 tops. I'd rather have DDG plus a 4m than say a 4.5 and a 5m keeper

              How about:

              Boruc Ceasar

Clyne, Harte, Dawson, Wilson, SUN def?

Do we go with the 4+1 exp def and 4 + 1 cheap mid in midpark?

              or

5 ubers and 5 really good mids?

Siss, Wal, Mata, Bale and Michu? Not too sure abt Mata - he'll be rested probably.

Front 3: hard to look past RVP, L'chop and Suaz.

              Thoughts?

                    Dawson, Wilson, Harte, Martin, *Demel*
                    Bale, *Walcott*, Sissoko, *Maloney*, ???
                    *RVP*, Sturridge, ???

With the ? possibly being a citeh or a chelsea player or both? Downing is offering good value at the moment too in case your not keen on Sturridge?

Defs: Dawson, Wilson, Harte, Martin (good shout that) and Demel (forgot WHam have a dgw)

You like Maloney so go with him. We have to have a CHS in there-is Oscar a regular? Haz or Mata?

                    RVP is non-negotiable.

Ok I've come up with a team that might work. It has a lot of DGWers, and avoids the middle teams like Swansea, WBA etc.

                    * are the DGWers

*DDG*, McCarthy (9.5m all up and has a heavy hitter with a DGW)

                    Dawson, Wilson, Harte, Martin, *Demel*
                    Bale, Sissoko, *Walcott*, *Lampard*, *Maloney*
                    Sturridge, *RVP*, *Tevez*

There's a few potential bargains there with Tevez and Lampard who both appear nailed on for their teams at the moment and offer a solid PPG record as well.

Here's my scenario.. I'm 50 points ahead of my very competitive mini league rival, He has RVP, I don't. But I have Bale & Suarez & he doesn't.

Should I go out of my way to bring in RVP ( Cisse & Sissoko/Michu OUT), bring in Rooney (for Cisse) or do nothing, still have a pretty looking team out for gwk 30 & just captain one of Bale/Suarez?

I would really like advice on this, not sure what to do!!

I like Maloney best because he's on set pieces and pens plus in order to get RVP you need a budget 5th mid so that you don't break the Bale, Mata, Walcott wonder mid trio. Michu looks a bit of a waste of value atm. That's just my opinion. I'm doing Michu-->Maloney next week because I' already on -4 atm.

For anyone who cares to entertain my thoughts ....

By getting Rooney in instead of RVP this week ...

I can get Cazorla in for the home game v Reading and the DGW.
I can then save a transfer, and afford to get Fellaini in for the Everton DGW and DDG in for Bego for the DGW.

That would give me 3 Arsenal, 2 United and an Evertonian for the DGW in GW33.

Is anyone else planning on getting more in?

next week Michu --> Cazorla probably on the cards, and that will still leave me with 2 more transfers before the start of GW 33

Yeah, same. I really thought Sturridge was the better option but Suarez has scored so well and everybody has him, so I don't have the guts to let him go. If FPL was just me trying to score the most points and I was able to ignore my rivals, I think I would have sold him this week. But I'm a wimp, and Lukaku bit the dust.

Has to be pretty huge, given that he paid the release clause from Levante out of his own pocket. Compared to what you`re accustomed to seeing in the MLS, i would guess that he`s gonna be an attraction. Mainly because of his speed and agility. The mans lightning quick!

    Last question......

How many more points will Suarez get than Sturridge do you reckon over the next 3 matches?

Its pretty hard to guesstimate these things. Thing is, Suarez will always be involved. Sturridge is a poacher. Thats what he does. Good finisher and very quick and complements the team well, but Suarez is just the main man in every category. He`s also going to win the Golden Boot and POTY (both possibly), which means he`ll be gunning for goals more than assists for the rest of the games. I would guess probably around 3-4 points more each game extra? Anyways thats just random numbers anyone can throw out

Id say suarez will get 4 goals and 1 assist. Sturridge will get 2 goals period.
