United extend the gap over City to 15 points but Reading limit the league leaders to a solitary Wayne Rooney strike at Old Trafford. Rotation at the back and another blank from Robin Van Persie leaves most Fantasy managers frustrated, though:

On the Up

Wayne Rooney
An avalanche of goals was expected this evening but it was down to the former Everton man to prove the difference. Rooney took his tally to five in the last six and with a couple of assists also thrown in over that period, he’s proving key to Sir Alex Ferguson’s side at a time where many other attacking options are failing to flourish.

David De Gea
While Sir Alex Ferguson made changes aplenty in the back-four, the Spaniard was handed a fourteenth successive start as United made it five clean sheets on the spin. Drafted in by almost 30,000 Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers last week, De Gea’s consistency of game time looks set to keep the bandwagon rolling over the international break.

Going Down

Robin Van Persie
Saturday’s results were bad enough from a Fantasy perspective before this evening’s match at Old Trafford. Van Persie was heavily backed to deliver but his poor form continued with another blank stretching his run to a single goal in six – runaway leader in this week’s Captain Poll and most captained in the FPL game, his failure could prove significant in many a mini league if the likes of Gareth Bale or Juan Mata can produce tomorrow.

Ian Harte
The left-back dropped to the bench for this evening’s visit to Old Trafford, ending a run of 12 consecutive starts for the Royals. While it’s likely that Reading will have a new manager in place by the time they travel to Arsenal in a fortnight’s time, his omission will be a concern, with Nicky Shorey looking back in the mix again.

Adam Le Fondre
Again, it’s perhaps misleading to look too much into Reading’s line-up, with Eamonn Dolan surely set to step aside for a full-time boss before the end of the international break. Despite scoring twice the number of goals than any Royals team mate this season, Le Fondre was afforded just 20 minutes off the bench at Old Trafford as Noel Hunt led the line. With Pavel Pogrebnyak now set to return from a three-game suspension, his chances of securing a regular role look further diminished.

United Back-Four Rotation
Ferguson’s decision to freshen up his back-four proved hugely frustrating to Fantasy managers. Only one player – Nemanja Vidic – kept his place from the side that line up against Norwich in the previous Gameweek; all the more annoying given the Red Devils delivered yet another clean sheet. It remains to be seen just how much more tinkering is on the cards but when the likes of Patrice Evra is rested to the bench for just the second time this term, it’s clear Ferguson has no qualms in utilising his squad options at the back.

The Bap Chap Bonus Predictions

Re-produced with kind permission from the man himself…

Villa 3 QPR 2 – Weimann 3, Agbonlahor 2, Jenas 1 (in the mix Benteke, Lowton)

Swansea 0 Arsenal 2 – Monreal 3, Gervinho 2, Jenkinson 1 (in the mix Cazorla)
Everton 2 Man City 0 – Osman 3, Fellaini 2, Mucha 1 (in the mix Baines, Coleman)

Just read through some of the posts from earlier, and I had forgotten about a couple of things.

    1) What happened to SAF going all out attack today?
    2) How bad are Nicky Hunt's tattoos, really?

the thing that hurts more than a captain fail is that watching a team u love for its playing style and tenacity lacking intent and showing complacency in their game!!! 🙁

They've been going all attack all season. They can't just flick a switch and score more goals because SAF would like them to. If they could that would mean they haven't really been trying so far 😉

But if the rest of your front 8 is very strong, then I'd say C is a decent one to have one your bench, just for when one of your regular players is dropped.

I think Maloney has the most favourable fixtures. Well Townsends aren't bad either but I also think Townsend might be on a bit of a purple patch that is unsustainable. Maloney is probably the most legitimately reliable FPL pick because he also has pens.

Schneiderlin is guaranteed starts which is a plus but he's generally a defensive mid who makes late runs into the box from time to time...been on a hot run of goals lately admittedly but you'd be amazed if that run continued as it's not his natural role.

You could argue for B and C's form making them the best picks but I'd still fancy Maloney over the other two if you want some relatively reliable attacking stats.

Then again Townsend is a really raw player that might be way better than anyone realises...a bit like Sterling at the start of the season. The only thing is I think his goals were a tad lucky lately to go in.

Ok in conclusion, A or C but A for safety of attacking stats.

I'm allegedly an Arsenal fan, so:

      - Sagna - no idea what is going on with his injury
      - Jenkinson (see above)
      - Monreal/Gibbs. I suspect Gibbs is first choice if fit, whenever that is. But its not clear yet.
      - Mertesacker - nailed on
      - Verm/Kosc - Kosc will be given a run, and Verm benched, But whether Arsene is giving Verm a slap to wake him up and improve performances or long term dropping his captain is a different call.

      Security of starts - Mertesacker.

If you're on a really tight budget, I'd punt on Jenkinson. Was promoting him earlier in the week before he started and kept a cleanie today. Sagna appears to be on his way out of the club and Jenks is playing very well. It's not completely risk free as it relies on what's going on in Wenger's brain which is a zone unexplained by science.

What a day for the Premierleague!
Clear evidence why it's the greatest league in the world: watch highlights of the Aston Villa vs QPR relegation battle - amazing stuff!
Then you have Everton beating City with 2 screamers, and Southampton smacking Liverpool!
    Love it...

Don't really feel the need to constantly compare our league with other leagues. I support a team after all not a league. But it's been exciting. I much preferred last season though, that was the greatest in living memory.

It's exciting but that's mainly because the general level of defending is so poor.

Think it's also that we simply play the game at a much higher tempo than most countries, best summed up by the phrase 'kick and rush'. In the past that's definitely been to the detriment of technique, but we're now in an intriguing situation where many gifted foreign imports are adjusting to the speed of our game and playing thrilling and skilled fast-paced stuff. The likes of Mata, Silva, Cazorla, Suarez, Tevez...

No arguements with that Isacki. Maybe the Premier teams should import a few decent defenders as well to balance things up.

they are an alternative to the FPL style auto-subs

be careful, if you use them, you cancel out any auto-subs

For example: I could change my injured Chicago Fire defender who did not play, for my Chivas midfielder who has yet to play, however this would stop Deshorn Brown's 7pts auto-sub in.

I reckon the manager subs may be useful in a small number of cases. For example you learn that a player will most likely be taken of early for a rest, etc, and then you change him with the equivalent of Turner playing at Old Trafford or whatever

          "Marouane Fellaini
The late assist for Nikica Jelavic’s strike provided some compensation but Fellaini will now face a two-match ban following his early booking against City. The Belgian will miss encounters with Stoke and Spurs but will at least be a consideration once again for Everton’s double Gameweek 33."

I had the same dilemma and chose RVP.. He looked tired but I have made my bed now, well at least until I use my WC GW34... Still got a green arrow with my double up on Stoke defence... Saying that am not convinced I will stay there if bale captainers explode with points

In hindsight, should have done >> mata as opposed to saving an FT.

    Ddg (bunn)
    Baines davies cueller (Clark Harte)
    Bale Wally sissok Maloney michu
    Rvp sturridge benteke

    Have 2ft and 3.3m

So my defense has evoked to become crap hehe..cueller (not in team) Harte (left out) Clark (bad team) Davies (fixtures and a blank)...so

    1) which def would u take out...I am thinking cueller as sland have really bad fixtures even if he comes into team..probably do cueller >> mertesacker

    2) for my other transfer..takeout michu? Don't know who else to take out...swan has spurs at hom, Norwich away, blank and then saints at home..he can score in any of the games. If I take him out, don't know for who? Mata(will get rested), cazorla (ideally I want mertesacker Wally and giroud as my Dgw coverage)
