Everton scrape past Stoke courtesy of a wonderful solo strike by Kevin Mirallas. The Toffees produce a second clean sheet in succession but for their visitors, there was little reason to be cheerful. Here’s the Stock Check from Saturday’s final encounter…

On the Up

Kevin Mirallas
The Belgian grabbed the only goal of the game as Everton registered a third straight victory, following wins over Reading and City at Goodison. Mirallas has now scored or assisted in each of his last three at home and has now started six of the last seven – while he offers potential for double Gameweek 33, his propensity for picking up injuries will always be a concern; he limped off clutching his thigh with 10 minutes left on the clock.

The Everton Defence
David Moyes was boosted by the return of Tim Howard and Phil Jagielka after recent back and ankle injuries respectively. Tonight’s 1-0 win saw the Toffees register back-to-back clean sheets for only the second time this term, having kept out City in the previous Gameweek – with QPR, Fulham and West Ham their final three visitors, their chances of further defensive points at home look strong.

Leighton Baines
With Marouane Fellaini and Steven Pienaar suspended, David Moyes solved his midfield dilemma by intriguingly rolling out a 3-5-2. This afforded Leighton Baines license to patrol the left flank in an even more advanced position than normal, with Seamus Coleman on the opposite wing, but with a trip to Tottenham next, it remains to be seen whether Moyes will risk operating with a three-man backline.

Going Down

Stoke Defence
Owners of Asmir Begovic and co were left disappointed after the Potters failed to keep out their opponents once again. While Tony Pulis aren’t giving too much away – they’ve conceded more than one goal just once in the last seven – it’s a single clean sheet in 13 now for Stoke. Marc Wilson’s 3.9 price tag and security of starts may be enough to persuade his owners to hold, though, particularly with three home matches in the next four.

The Stoke Attack
Going forward, Stoke are even less impressive. Their blank at Goodison means they have scored just once in the last five Gameweeks, with a recent shift to 4-4-2 making little difference to their attacking potential – struggling at both ends of the pitch, they are just four points clear of third-bottom Villa, having played a game more than Paul Lambert’s side. Villa are next to the Britannia in what looks to be a vital encounter.

Bonus Predictions – Courtesy of the Bap Chap

Sunderland 0 Man United 1 – Van Persie 3, Vidic 2, Young 1 (in the mix Carrick, Buttner, Smalling)
Arsenal 4 Reading 1 – Gervinho 3, Cazorla 2, Arteta 1 (in the mix Mariappa) (top 2 very tight)
Man City 4 Newcastle 0 – Silva 3, Clichy 2, Kompany 1 (extremely tight)
Southampton 2 Chelsea 1 – Rodriguez 3, Lambert 2, Terry 1 (in the mix S.Davis)
Swansea 1 Tottenham 2 – Vertonghen 3, Bale 3, Sigurdsson 1 (the 1 is very low and open)
West Ham 3 West Brom 1 – Carroll 3, O’Neil 2, Collins 1
Wigan 1 Norwich 0 – Kone 3, Beausejour 2, Alcaraz 1 (very low and open behind Kone, no gimmes)
Everton 1 Stoke 0 – Mirallas 3, Jelavic 2, Distin 1 (in the mix Gibson)

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

67 points plus a predicted 10 bonus has made me feel a lot better after a bad slump in recent GW's.
Something to be happy about, better saviour the moment before Suarez and Berbatov, who I don't own, score big tomorrow!

No real historical reason no, but in the last 20 years there's been a lot of Irish players and Mick McCarthy/Keano and of course Quinner. I don't think I started supporting them because of Quinn but I remember thinking it was cool he played for us. My cousin is 50 or so and he supports Sunderland, he got in touch when he heard I supported them and we went over for a game in 97 when we were in the championship...2-1 against Crewe, I met Quinn and Daniel Dichio LOL 🙂

      seems sensible

Look up mate, would you wc if you were me. Part of the reason that I was going to wc this week was so that I could the extra FT to use for a keeper swap. Then I had a brainwave. Robles is 4.0 and has a DGW, just get him to play in GW36, one less FT needed, can keep a better looking side in 32 and then set up for DGW

You'd hope so, always makes no sense to me when a manager is sacked and then his assistant put in temporary charge for a few weeks.

Southampton's managerial change may have seemed ruthless but it was efficient, Pochettino was ready to take over immediately.

A lot of teams could still go down.

I'm not entirely sure that either QPR or Wigan, who were both in the bottom 3 this morning will drop.

It's entirely feasible that teams like Sunderland and Norwich, who looked safe 6 weeks ago could free fall the rest of the way now and drop on the final day.

Plenty of twists to come yet and sometimes its the teams that have been in the drop zone all season who are the ones that hold their nerve in the run in.

I've been saying this for a while.

Anyone from 10th down has been in danger of relegation throughout the last 6 weeks and still even now.

Yes but most people see QPR 7 points behind and think 'ah its all over for them then'.

But they don't consider that the schedule is very friendly to them, they have been playing much better attacking football and basically have nothing to lose anymore.

Teams like QPR and Wigan (who both survived last season) don't look at the table and panic when they see themselves in the bottom places. Teams like Sunderland and Norwich look at the table and sometimes have a false impression of themselves.

Thats when they start freefalling and before they know what's happening they are playing for their league lives on Survival Sunday wondering how the hell they got to this point in the first place when they thought they were safe.......

Completely agree, it's just how poor Sunderland and Stoke have been playing. Who's going to inspire them to change their ways?

Looking at some of those teams last 10 games (Wigan on 30 are just above the relagtion zone) :

        13. Stoke - 34pts - 5 points from a possible 30 (!)
        14. Norwich - 9 points from a possible 30
        16. S'land - 9 points from a possible 30

If teams below those 3 find form, any could really go down.

Alcaraz, great shout Demi. Personally though, I'd be quite in favour of Robles, cheap, nailed on, good fixtures and a DGW. Good back=up and can be played in GW36

I do like Alcaraz though, if I could find a decent alternative to Robles that is.

I've had him for 2 games now. He gets blocks, and is a good goal threat from corners. Their best defender by a long way too.

Fab for this week sure, you can bench Robles, but then I can have another keeper with a DGW as well, for 8.3 (though if we lose the replay I fancy DDG). I can't see much better than Robles that I can take for a back up keeper that has a DGW (for that price) and I'm not sure I'd fancy doubling up, but I'd like to own Alcaraz, I do like him. He's Wigan's version of Turner

As for my reply. I basically feel both are a risk. But the fact that, Sagna came straight back in today, despite Jenks doing well, suggests Sagna will play when fit. I can't see Fab losing his place now either. But the Arsenal guys on here tell me Wenger is prone to switching players for no apprarent reason. I looked at fab as I have Migs who is nailed on, so I know if it goes wrong, at least I still have a keeper. That is my main concern with Fab. If Chesney suddenly re-appears and you have some cheap nobody as your other keeper, you've got a problem
