With the clock ticking down on this evening’s quarter final deadline, we cast an eye over UEFA’s official Champions League game once again. As always, we give a nod to the top five in the Scout League and take a look at the transfer market before rolling out our picks for the upcoming Matchday.

Scout League Standings

Russ Kitson keeps his place at the top of the summit after racking up 73 points last time out. Partnering Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo up top, he also benefitted from double figure hauls from both Jordi Alba and Mario Gotze, while Arturo Vidal chipped in with a 20 point armband haul. Russ sits on 552 points, which is 41st overall.

In second spot is Ville Sillanpää, who produced a fantastic 85 point return in the previous Matchday. He also had the above-mentioned quintet in addition to Galatasaray’s prolific Burak Yilmaz, while Juventus’ Leonardo Bonucci chipped in with a clean sheet as Ville shot up the ranking to 61st spot, with 548 points to his name thus far.

Slipping to third is Melonfresh, despite a 72 point haul. He also had Vidal captain, with Messi, Ronaldo and Alba in his ranks, while his decision to field Malaga’s Isco boosted his tally by 12 points. Melonfresh sits in 78th spot overall on 546 points.

Yogiswarasatrio takes his place in fourth spot, having racked up 75 points last time out. Captain Messi, Vidal, Ronaldo, Isco, Yilmaz and Gianluigi Buffon were his main protagonists as he moved to 104th spot, with 543 points on the board.

Finally, Tricky2006 completes the Scout League top five. While he also had Vidal, Messi and Ronaldo, his faith in Dortmund’s defence was vindicated – Felipe Santana and Marcel Schmelzer combined for 20 points, while Schalke’s Michel Bastos grabbed a goal and seven point return before his side were eliminated.

Market Trends

With just eight teams left, Fantasy managers have five free transfers to restructure their squads. Many will have plenty players to replace, after the likes of United, Milan, Arsenal, Porto and Shakhtar were all eliminated in the last 16.

Dortmund’s main assets all very much in demand ahead of a first leg trip to Malaga. Keeper Roman Weidenfeller (8,000 transfers in), full-back Schmelzer (9,000), playmaker Gotze (13,000) and lone forward Robert Lewandowski (8,000) are either first or second most popular in their respective classifications. The Spanish outfit have also received significant interest, though; keeper Wilfredo Caballero and centre-half Martin Demichelis have a combined 11,000 new owners, while Isco’s midfield exploits have persuaded over 6,000 to take the plunge.

Elsewhere, Madrid’s young centre-half Rafael Varane comes in at just 4.0 and has picked up 11,000+ new owners, while the La Liga outfit’s keeper Diego Lopez has been snapped up by over 8,000 new suitors, with Iker Casillas still injured. Sergio Ramos and Ronaldo have also proven popular as Jose Mourinho’s side prepare to face Galatasaray – the Turkish side’s star forward Burka Yilmaz has earned more than 7,000 new owners after scoring in each of his last six, while Bayern’s Toni Kroos (10,000) and Thomas Muller (4,000) have been acquired by plenty prior to their double-header with Juventus.

Ones to Watch

With the four quarter finals taking place over the next couple of evenings, the ability to “stick or twist” with our armband selections is somewhat limited. Tonight’s pair of fixtures sees PSG entertain Barcelona, while Bayern play host to Juventus, before Spanish duo Real Madrid and Malaga welcome Galatasaray and Dortmund respectively tomorrow evening.

Looking at the top five teams in the Scout League, Messi, Ronaldo and Vidal all reside in their squads – with ownerships of 77%, 51% and 40%, they are the three most popular players in the game. All things considered, then, we’re going to look elsewhere when it comes to our tips; our thinking is that by this point, it’s likely you’ll already have all three. Indeed, with so many sides sporting the same names, we’re mainly rolling out some differentials for your perusal ahead of this evening’s deadline:

While much of the pre-match hype surrounds Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s battle against his former employers, we’re opting for Ezequiel Lavezzi instead for PSG. We reckon both sides will get amongst the goals and, having notched in each of the last four in Europe, the Argentine has been the most consistent performer for Carlo Ancelotti’s side thus far – he’s owned by 3% of managers to Ibra’s 14%.

Handed a brief sub role in the weekend’s draw at Celta Vigo, David Villa is expected to return to Barcelona’s XI for the trip to Paris, with Pedro unavailable through suspension. An ownership of less than 1% highlights Villa’s differential appeal in comparison to Messi and, having scored in the 4-0 rout of Milan last time out, looks a decent shout for those willing to take a punt.

Thomas Muller gets the nod as our differential for Bayern’s home game with Juventus. The 9.0 priced forward has returned four goals and an assist in his last six Champions League appearances – yet has an ownership of less than 6%. Given a brief second-half run out in Saturday’s incredible 9-2 home win over Hamburg, he’ll be fully refreshed for this evening’s encounter.

We’re backing a Real Madrid win over Galatasaray but with so much uncertainty over the lone forward role, it seems too risky to punt for Gonzalo Higuain or Karim Benzema. With Ronaldo likely to be heavily backed for the armband tomorrow, we’re opting for Mesut Ozil as a midfield supplement. Priced at 9.0 and with an ownership under 9%, he was rested at the weekend and will be looking to replicate the form that has harvested four goals and nine assists in La Liga this season.

Our final selection is more popular in ownership. Dortmund’s Mario Gotze is the top scoring midfielder with 43 points so far and has racked up two goals and four assists in his last three appearances – despite this, he is only the sixth most-owned midfield option on 17%. If you fancy Jurgen Klopp’s side to progress against Malaga, now could be the perfect time to snap up the 8.5 priced playmaker.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Is this fantasy or real life?
Begovic was great fantasy-wise – but that was the whole defence.
Jussi and Guzan – to name 2 – are both keepers who have earned their sides more points than Begovic.

If u could play a wildcard for game 33 who would be in it?

I'm in a cup competition quarter final (cash prize) and am miles ahead in the leagues i care about and am thinking about taking a huge hit (16pts) this week to set me up for 33.

So who stand outs? I'm going caz/mert/walcott from ars btw.

Is it worth shipping out GJ and Remy for Distin and Berbatov?

I know GJ has a decent fixture but I figured I'd set myself up for the doubles now rather than later and Berbatov 0.3 more expensive....

    Thoughts?

I only have 0.1 in the bank so if I wait - it would mean selling Suarez for Berba or getting a cheaper defender in and Fulham's defence didn't do a very good job of selling themselves for the double.....

Yeah cheers, but so difficult to get any decent traction these end of season weeks. Teams are all so similar.

Checked the 10 ahead of me and everyone's got the same midfield 😯

Good to hear you're back in the green again. Just need a big nudge in the next few GW's and you could find yourself top 50 or even 10.

How many DGW's for 33 you looking at?

Yeah saw that and was surprised, but sometimes you gotta go for it, great play mate 😀

Not exactly sure yet, probs a hit this week and two or three next week, leaving me:

                DDG or Howard
                Sagna - O'Brien
                Cazorla - Walcott - Fellaini
                RVP - Berbs

....sort of thing, fairly standard around these parts.

Not planing anything too left field. DGW36 will be mad.

It's one or the other as can't have too many hits for GW33 because of H2H.

    Operation catch Forca Inter…

    Dear diary,

Another week, another ascent up this rocky terrain. The conditions are harsh and unforgiving but we’re surviving. Morale in the camp is high and rations are plentiful. Our sherpa Acquafresca went out ahead to do a bit of reconnaissance, we’ll be passing him in a few days and he will descend to about 1k rank once again using his steady supply of red arrows.

We’re so close to the summit now, we can almost smell it. We’ve been praying to the FPL gods to keep us all safe but manny obstacles have harshed us before, so we know that there is still a bumpy ride ahead. For now though, we remain optimistic. Our Croatian nemesis up ahead is falling slowly and cries of harshing can be heard daily now, he is clearly struggling to maintain the sort of optimism we have in our camp currently and for that we are grateful.

I’ve been jotting things down in my logbook since GW20, the ascent has been long and arduous but looking back on it now, wow do I feel uplifted.

FORCA pts // SantiagoUnreal pts (points trailed by Santiagounreal)

    1162 – 1091 (71)
    1251 – 1149 (102)
    1344 – 1252 (92)
    1455 – 1337 (118)
    1518 – 1387 (131)
    1570 – 1465 (105)
    1668 – 1582 (86)
    1704 – 1629 (75)
    1756 – 1704 (52)
    1806 – 1764 (42)
    1838 – 1819 (19)
    1896 – 1884 (12)

As you can see we’ve narrowed the gap significantly and I hope manny can take inspiration from our journey thus far. The gap is now only 12 pts, and he looks a bit screwed for next week.

Temperatures are rising despite us being so high up and my nose has been bleeding for days, but that is the price you must pay to achieve such momentous ambitions.

Wish us luck for the rest of our journey

    Yours truly,

    Commander Santiagounreal

              Get your facts right :

Amnesia is a general term used to describe instances of memory loss that can come from a head injury.

Alzheimer's disease is a DISEASE that causes progressive and irreversible mental deterioration.

    Bayern vs Juventus
    PSG vs Barcelona
    Malaga vs Dortmund
    Real Madrid vs Galatasaray

Where does any see clean sheets? And where do you see a lot of goals on both sides?

I expect PSG vs barca to be goalarific. I can see Real, Bayern and Juve getting CS's.

Real has the most chance to get a CS. However, a moment of brilliance from either Sneijder or Drogba can change it so easily.

Lewandowski has scored in his last nine league appearances for Dortmund, and has a total of 20 goals in 24 Bundesliga matches so far.

Strikers are paid to be effective, not spectacular. Stunning goals count exactly the same as tap-ins.

Really? And that's different from in the Bundesliga, is it? As stated above, Lewandowski's movement is fantastic, making space for his attacking midfielders to run into.

This wouldn't be the old "EPL is so much tougher than the Bundesliga" argument, which has had its *rse handed to it in Europe this season? The average* German defence is much better organised than its English equivalent at the moment.

(*This average only works if Hamburger SV is left out of the equation...)

I don't think he will gold his place - just when you think they will, they don't.

Look at Jenkinson for the example.

I think Walcott would be straight back in when fit, just like Sagna.

      Hi Guys,

I still have a wildcard, and am mulling over the best time to play it, whilst chasing a 40ish point gap down in my main ML.

I can currently get Sagna, Walcott, Fellaini, Giroud and Rooney for the DGW 33, for free, which would be better than my rivals unless they take multiple hits, and if I wild carded prior to 33, I'm not too sure I would or even could really add many more decent/desirable players to that list without decimating the rest of my squad.

So, I'm thinking of going for GW 33 as normal, and holding the wildcard for the probable DGW36 and having a blowout on the options then instead, where there may be a few cheaper worthwhile options floating around from the teams involved that could even allow me to have a full DGW 11 perhaps, or at least 8/9 players.

      What do you reckon?

Thanks to anybody who reads and comments.

Sounds like a plan. Maybe try sorting out a team for 36 now and see if you could get to it from a GW33 team with minimal hits?

Should I wildcard in Gameweek 33?

I can easily get this XI out for only -8 and keep my wildcard...

      de Gea*.
      Mertesacker*, Clichy, Pearce/Wilson.
      Santi Cazorla*, Walcott*, Fellaini*, Townsend.
      Van Persie*, Rooney*, Berbatov*.

      Bunn; Pearce/Wilson, Bale, Davies.

See my post above - I have a similar problem.

I think I am holding onto mine for the probable DGW36 and having a major DGW blowout then.

        Go out in style!

I know what you mean, I think that with my 8 point hit and 8 DGWers, I will be able to keep inside the top 2k, and than go all out for the DGW36 and try to hit the top 1k.

Very few people will have a wildcard left by then, which could mean a major boost if you manage to successfully select a bang on DGW 11 with a wildcard.

I think it is worth a shot.

That Rooney/Rvp combo scares me, could get you a load of points. Keep it til 36 to maximise your chances of a top 1k finish

      Lopez
      Alba Vidal Maxwell
      Alaba Kroos Ozil Reus
      Lewandowski Ronaldo Messi

      Subs. Guiata santana varane isco

Not going to play with a sub keeper. I've decided to keep an eliminated £3.5m keeper on bench to free up cash. Thoughts please?

Wearing white at the Bernabeu much more likely. Citeh/Chelski fist-i-cuffs over Cavani possible, although sneaking a faint hope of a Edinson-shaped forward at The Lane. 😉
