The latest addition to our members area is almost ready to go live. The “Key Performance Indicator” tables or “KPI” tables for short, are designed to use a series of key stats to allow our members to track form or change in performance in players.

For a while now we’ve been looking for a method of using our data to enable our members to assess player form – or at least track some key statistics that can be identified as indicators of form that may influence future Fantasy Football output, whilst also going some way to explain a recent rise or decline.

Firstly, we created tables that track the frequency of key stats or match events which indicate player performance such as “Minutes per shot on target” or “Minutes per touch in the box”. We’ve also included defensive indicators so that users who play Fantasy games where defensive actions come into play – (like Sky Sports and Play On) – can get further guidance from the tables. Indeed, stats such as “Minutes per Block” and “Minutes per Clearance” will immediately help those looking to identify defenders who are set to fare well in the new Fantasy Premier League bonus system.

All these statistics are useful in themselves when you consider that you can sort on any stat and slice the data by a Gameweek range or by home and away matches. However, the key ingredient we’ve added is the ability to create a second comparison table in the background and view tabular results that track the percentage change between the two tables. In this way, we can begin to get values that indicate form or perhaps a change in role and position. What you’ll get are results such as…

“Michu’s frequency of shots in the box increased by 23% when he played at home”

or even…

“Michu’s frequency of shots on target reduced by 38% over the final eight Gameweeks compared to the Gameweeks 1-30.”

These tables and this ability to compare frequency data can be used in a multitude of ways in order to find trends and provide quantitative data on queries such as:

  • Which players improved the most for the key indicators from the 2011/12 season?
  • Which players suffered the biggest decline in the key indicators away from home compared to home matches?
  • Just how much did Juan Mata decline in the key attacking indicators over the last eight Gameweeks compared to the rest of his season?
  • Which of the Chelsea midfield showed improvement over the same window?
  • How was Robin Van Persie’s key indicators affected by Wayne Rooney’s omission from United’s lineup?

Our members will be able to use the numbers produced to help them assess how a change in position affected a player, or even just to study which players, over the “last four Gameweeks”, have improved the most over the key indicators, since last season or earlier in the year. From now on, when we think Michu has dropped off in form, we can check and get percentage values for key stats to assess whether this is really the case and, at the same time, assess if any of his team-mates have benefited.

We’ll be using the KPI tables to generate new members articles and to add further analysis to our regular members articles. We’ll be rolling out our first members article, inspired by the new KPI data, later this week to help guide your initial squad selection.

For now, take a look at the preview movie below to see the tables in action. We hope to have the KPI tables available in our Members Area later this week.

avoiding pricey FWDs allows me to have such a balanced team:

    Boruc | Mannone
    Nastasic | Coleman | Saylor | Turner | Shaw
    Bale | Hazard | Walcott | Mirallas | Thomas
    Sturridge | Carroll | Lambert

    what do you think, lads..?

like this ^ have a similar draft. Consider getting in Johnson/Enrique for Saylor, and go with a more-punty J.Rod over Lambert to free the cash?

I am a bit surprised at the lack of people RMT Martin Olsson into their teams. He signed for Norwich and is an extremely versatile player, he is listed has a defender on FPL, but for played nearly the entire season for Blackburn up and down the left hand side of the pitch (he was left winger when Arsenal lost to Blackburn 1-0, I remember him putting in numerous crosses), loves to shoot from distance, continuously gets forward and puts the ball into the box which is more than can be said for a lot of wing backs. And he rarely ever gets injured too, last recorded serious injury was 2008.
He does have previous premier league experience with Blackburn, and was only really started to become a first team player in there final 2 seasons when he was 22 years old, but in those 2 and half seasons he was a Blackburn player he managed to score points every 330 minutes, either a goal, an assist, or a cleansheet not to mention a few baps on top of this. This works out to points every 3 games played, not bad for a player playing in a seriously dire Blackburn team going through troubles for those of us who remember.
Overall he is a serious one to watch, or even include within your team if you feel brave like me, he offers a great OOP prospect with either Garrido (DEF) or Pilkington (MID) offering him real competition down the left hand side of the pitch.

    Biggest FPL pains

    City - Aguero too expensivr
Silva - maybe hard to justify with Hazard and Theo at 0.5 more
    Dzeko - not nailed on

    Pool
Sturridge - 9.0 is a lot and he's injury prone
    Coutinho - over-priced
    Aspas - unproven

yeah but rvp has lengthy layoffs when he gets injured, sturridge has little niggly injuries that causes him to miss a game or two here & there making him a rotation issue, just look at last season, i had to take him out it was so frequent

Kagawa... last season he was outstanding if you consider it from a first season point of view, plus the language barrier he had to overcome. He has had time to settle, and with rumors of Rooney he looks like he is ready to shine this year, and for £8 million that's an amazing bargain, I don't know what you guys see sometimes lol

Still a big risk though seeing as he might be played OoP and also no guaranteed starts. For that price, I'd want him to be a nailed on starter. He may be one of the early season bandwagons but with those fixtures and no guarantee of starts, I'll happily lay off.

Aye, he is a risk, he who dares and all that jazz. You have plenty of time anyway, I'd seriously advise getting any MU coverage until at least GW4 (Crystal Palace) or GW6. Opening fixtures are not kind to United at all, but this at least gives us time to see whats going on with them.

    L. Baines will be a BAP magnet under the new regime, I reckon. It almost seems it was created for him. Look at these in addition to defensive ones he can get.

    - For every 3 open play crosses - doesn't even have to be successful
    - Creating a big chance (a chance where the receiving player should score)
    - Providing key passes
    - Pass Completion (after making at least 30 passes)
    70% completion (1 point)
    80% completion (2 points)
    90% completion (3 points)

If you factor his and jags scores down for goals assists and CSs, and adjust for games in which 2 goals were conceded, you get baines scoring 4.2 Bps per game and jagielka scoring around 5.0.

      Jags wins.

Aguero scored 5 less goals than Negredo has in the last two years in his last 2 seasons at La Liga and came in at 11.

But Aguero had a terrible season last time out

Still not sold on paying 11 for him though

Hey guys any betting tips for games happening before the 26th of july?

I got a betting mashine at work with some lovely prizes. But my betting knowledge is not that good. Could be pretty much any sport. Thanks for any tips.

Is the Bonus Points System filter simply a re-calculation of last year's stats? If so, Ashley Williams, Schneiderlin, Ruiz all look to be handsomely rewarded for their play.

    Now he's an acid question.

If Bale was 13.0 would you still pick him? I know I would considering those opening fixtures...

It matters in terms of deciding on the Bale - RVP conundrum. I haven't yet seen a team that's well liked without Bale in it.

This is the team I have starting at the moment! Would anybody swap any of the players I have for any of the following:
    RVP
    Walcott
Kagawa (I think he will shine this year)
    Navas
    Nastasic

    Foster Boruc
    Rat Koscielny Coleman Hudson Baker
    Bale Silva Nolan Morisson Wanyama
    Sturridge Aguero Lambert
