The latest addition to our members area is almost ready to go live. The “Key Performance Indicator” tables or “KPI” tables for short, are designed to use a series of key stats to allow our members to track form or change in performance in players.

For a while now we’ve been looking for a method of using our data to enable our members to assess player form – or at least track some key statistics that can be identified as indicators of form that may influence future Fantasy Football output, whilst also going some way to explain a recent rise or decline.

Firstly, we created tables that track the frequency of key stats or match events which indicate player performance such as “Minutes per shot on target” or “Minutes per touch in the box”. We’ve also included defensive indicators so that users who play Fantasy games where defensive actions come into play – (like Sky Sports and Play On) – can get further guidance from the tables. Indeed, stats such as “Minutes per Block” and “Minutes per Clearance” will immediately help those looking to identify defenders who are set to fare well in the new Fantasy Premier League bonus system.

All these statistics are useful in themselves when you consider that you can sort on any stat and slice the data by a Gameweek range or by home and away matches. However, the key ingredient we’ve added is the ability to create a second comparison table in the background and view tabular results that track the percentage change between the two tables. In this way, we can begin to get values that indicate form or perhaps a change in role and position. What you’ll get are results such as…

“Michu’s frequency of shots in the box increased by 23% when he played at home”

or even…

“Michu’s frequency of shots on target reduced by 38% over the final eight Gameweeks compared to the Gameweeks 1-30.”

These tables and this ability to compare frequency data can be used in a multitude of ways in order to find trends and provide quantitative data on queries such as:

  • Which players improved the most for the key indicators from the 2011/12 season?
  • Which players suffered the biggest decline in the key indicators away from home compared to home matches?
  • Just how much did Juan Mata decline in the key attacking indicators over the last eight Gameweeks compared to the rest of his season?
  • Which of the Chelsea midfield showed improvement over the same window?
  • How was Robin Van Persie’s key indicators affected by Wayne Rooney’s omission from United’s lineup?

Our members will be able to use the numbers produced to help them assess how a change in position affected a player, or even just to study which players, over the “last four Gameweeks”, have improved the most over the key indicators, since last season or earlier in the year. From now on, when we think Michu has dropped off in form, we can check and get percentage values for key stats to assess whether this is really the case and, at the same time, assess if any of his team-mates have benefited.

We’ll be using the KPI tables to generate new members articles and to add further analysis to our regular members articles. We’ll be rolling out our first members article, inspired by the new KPI data, later this week to help guide your initial squad selection.

For now, take a look at the preview movie below to see the tables in action. We hope to have the KPI tables available in our Members Area later this week.

    Mannone - Boruc
    Turner - Shaw - Collins - Coleman - Dawson
    Bale - Wallcott - Silva - Snodgrass - Kagawa
    Lukaku - Rodriguez - Aspas

    £2.5m in the bank

I will do Silva to Hazard if its a Chelsea DGW1, leaving me £2.0m in the bank.

Not as good as it can be, but its flexible to begin with, balanced and I think a bit different and "out the box"....it will definitely require playing harder and smarter though, especially picking the right players in goal and in defence every week.

My punt. I think its good to have at least one to set you apart from others. You dont get anywhere having the same players. Having a good differential is a good thing. Lukaku proved last season coming of the bench he can still deliver and dominate. So if he doesnt start the first game, its not a huge problem. If he is a starter risk, with the money in the bank, I can make a change quickly. Because its flexible.

That's fair enough. I don't think he get anywhere near the game time he got last year. It's a shame because if I knew he was a nailed on starter he would definitely be in my team. He's such a good player

I know - its frightening how poor Utd's midfield returned last year and yet won the league at a canter.

Highest goal scoring Mid was Kagawa with 6. However, Im pretty sure someone will come in, maybe Fabs.

        SAF neglected that midfield.

But will there be a gem in the midfield? There wasn't last season, far too much rotation.

With no stand out option for Moyes, rotation likely to continue on the wings throughout this season.

        RVP or nothing for me.

Well, you don't need cover from certain teams as long as the ones you do have are scoring as well as or better than them in the weeks you're starting them.

I'd much prefer a rotation with the fixtures of Norwich, West Ham, Southampton etc than a United defender.

I also think there are a lot better options from the majority of teams in the 6.5-8.0 bracket that the United midfield occupy going on last season.

Obivously, the only exception to this for me is RVP and you could argue that you do need/should have RVP 'cover' but I can't justify it at how much he unbalances my team at 14.0.

Hello everyone, hope you're all having a nice summer. First draft of my team:

    Boruc/Mannone
    Koscielny/Kaboul/Coleman/Shaw/Chester
    Bale/Hazard/Walcott/Mirallas/Thomas
    Aguero/RvW/Rodriguez

It's strange going back to only having 100m. What do people think of that attempt? I'm not convinced by Rodriguez myself, but I don't want to downgrade any of those 4 midfielders (I think Mirallas will be a bargain if he stays fit). I'll get more Chelsea in if the DGW is confirmed.

Walcott, Bale and Hazard really does soak up a lot of your budget. Not sure about Rodriguez either, think he'll be rotated and he plays reverse OOP.

Mirallas a much better option this season now he's a midfielder, agree he could score well, though could Deulofeu eat into his playing time?

Local press seems to think Westwood will be first choice over Mannone, but that's an easy switch if it is the case, the problem would be if Di Canio can't decide and rotates them.

I might do Rodriguez to Gayle (as suggested above) to allow me to get Foster for Mannone. I can't see Mirallas' playing time being in doubt, I'm an Everton fan and he was usually our best player when fit last season. I can see him on the right with Deulofeu on the left.

    Nobody fancy Garrido over Turner?

Always seemed more attacking of the two to me and Chris Glover's model suggests that defenders scoring back-to-back seasons of high goals is rare.

Home form has been proved to be directly related to distance of travel. Man United have very little home advantage when playing Man City and as such the entire logic of Home/Away is wrong on this website.

    Have a good day 😉

2nd draft, tried to get Hazard in there for Snodgrass somehow but it just ruins the defense and 3rd striker too much:

    Vorm | Boruc
    Coleman | Nastasic | Koscielny | Parr | Chester
    Bale | Walcott | Coutinho | Mirallas | Snodgrass
    Lukaku | Bony | Rodriguez

Walcott will be staying and I really want to have Liverpool cover from either Coutinho or Sturiddge. Hard to get them in alongside Hazard with the budget.

Think I've decided I won't be getting any v.expensive strikers in this season (unless Higuain comes in then he's straight in my team).

Will be subbing in the likes of Sturridge and Benteke as and when needed. If Benteke goes to Spurs I imagine he will be in my team from the off.

    See so many Boruc/Mannone combos and can't work out the reason for it. Mannone isn't guaranteed yet and the rotation is;

    FUL/SUN/cpl/WHM/wba/CPL/SWA/swa/NEW/hul/HUL/stk/avl/AVL/TOT/whm/NOR/car/car

Not bad on paper but 9 away games with two clubs that had 8 away clean sheets in total last season?

Find the 0.5 to upgrade to Mannone to Foster or even find the 1 mil and get yourselves Mignolet?

Think I've got a fairly cracking team here. I'm sure you'll disagree.... ?

    Foster - Boruc

    Koscielny - Coleman - Turner - Shaw - 4.0

    Bale - Silva - Lampard - Snodgrass - Thomas

    RVP - Giroud - Carroll

All would change if Arse get Higuain (obviously).

After changing my team for the 100th time, ive come up with this......

gk- foster, davis thinking of playing foster all season
df-garrido, clyne, collins, amorebieta, alcaraz (all4.5)
md- bale, silva, kakaniclic, diame, mcclean
    st- rvp, aguero, kone

I know i have spent 53m on strikers and 2 luxury mid and maybe thats a waste but they will score me some great points.

I will probably change this team in the next five mins!!!!

    any thoughts?
