City turn on the style as Manuel Pellegrini gets his Etihad tenure up and running with a devastating display against an out-of-sorts Newcastle. While the hosts dazzled going forward, their injury problems at the back mounted after their skipper was subbed off before the final whistle:

The Game Changer

With four goals over the pre-season fixtures, Edin Dzeko had finished the summer as top scorer for Manuel Pellegrini’s side. The new City boss had responded by suggesting the Bosnian was his main striker – a comment many thought that, somewhere along the line, had been lost in translation.

A brace for Bosnia in last week’s defeat by the USA, however, signalled his form ahead of this evening’s match with Newcastle and Pellegrini backed up his faith by selecting Dzeko over Alvaro Negredo and Stevan Jovetic as Sergio Aguero’s partner in a 4-2-2-2 formation.

Fantasy managers have been stung by Dzeko before but tonight’s showing is hugely encouraging for a player that is so favourably priced across the Fantasy games. He may have delivered just one assist from this evening’s encounter but his display deserved so much more – he managed an impressive eight shots; equalling the sum total offered by David Silva, Aguero, Yaya Toure and sub Negredo. With a trip to Cardiff and home clash against Hull, he looks the ideal replacement for those looking for an escape route from Romelu Lukaku.

The Underused

Having failed to play all pre-season, Sergio Aguero was treated with caution by Fantasy managers as the campaign got underway. With summer recruits Negredo and Jovetic added to the mix, it looked more likely than Pellegrini would ease him back into the fold for the first three games, affording Aguero time to return to full fitness over September’s international break.

Instead, the Argentine was installed alongside Dzeko for the demolition of Newcastle, with Jovetic unable to even make the bench. As the hosts swept the sorry Magpies aside, Aguero was quick to open his account for the season – slotting home just after 20 minutes to put his side two ahead.

Subbed off just after the hour mark, it’s apparent Pellegrini will remain careful with his game time but, while Robin Van Persie squares up to Chelsea and Liverpool in consecutive weeks, Aguero’s 7% Fantasy Premier League ownership makes him a deadly differential for back-to-back showdowns against two promoted sides.

The Selection Poser

The sight of Vincent Kompany limping off with what appeared to be a groin problem leaves Pellegrini sweating on his defensive options ahead of the trip to Wales. With City’s other first-choice central defender Matija Nastasic still to return to action after sustaining an ankle injury over the summer, Joleon Lescott’s security of starts now looks a little more secure at the heart of defence.

Micah Richards’ official twitter account has this evening claimed he, too, is sidelined “for a few weeks” with a hamstring injury – potentially, Javi Garcia may have to slot in alongside Lescott if the injuries don’t improve over the weekend. Depending on the Kompany prognosis, Pellegrini may go shopping for cover before the transfer window is closed.

      Considering same thing mate,

      Lukaku -> Aguero

and Hazard out but with 6.5 to spend I'm looking at Snodgrass if he's fit or maybe even take a chance on Taarabt

      Based on history B)

Really depends on who will be move affected by the rest & rotation policy Jose employs. If i were betting I'd say Oscar likey to more rotated than Hazard

Anyone keeping an eye on Hangeland, Mertesacker, Vertonghen, or Lovren? If their teams play well defensively, they could get a ton of bonus points. None of them for the next 2 weeks form me, but I'll definitely keep taking note on how the baps points of those players compare to those of their fellow defenders. Vertonghen, with a goal threat, only 2 other defenders to compete with for baps, and a team who may have to play more defensively in a post-Bale world, is particularly intriguing.

Kepping Haz and benching him GW3.

What do I do about the other 3? Do I offload Ivan first (for Zab) and bench Kos and keep Lukaku for the Utd game that he may not even play in?

Who do I get rid of first? Do I need to take a hit and get rid of them all? Confused.

I wouldn't take a hit. Do Ivan to Zab and play Zab, Coleman, and Turner.
Just play Haz and Lukaku. If you take a hit getting Lukaku out, your new striker has to get more than a goal or 6points to even break even.

I have/had exact same issue. I have switched out Ivan for Shaw, and Kos for Coleman for a 4 pt hit. And considering another 4 for switching out Luk. Think Coleman will do well but also rise greatly in price. Would have waited out the week with Kos, but it's not so much a potential price drop as it is that nearly the entire Arsenal back 5 (including DM) are out injured. Everyone but Mert, and he'll be playing Wed, as well. Arsenal, if they win the next few, will win through outscoring, because it doesn't bode well for them and clean sheets.

Wait until Wednesday... I'm probably doing Ivan > Zab and maybe Lukaku > Studge for a hit, but it can all change in a thrice and we all know, including Mourinho, what Lukaku can do against Man U.

    Zab, Coleman or Shaw.

or two of these + hit.

    Pros for each:

Zab: Good fixtures. Attacking. Season keeper.

Coleman: Good opening game. Will be worth 5.2 by next week. 0.2 gain.

Shaw: Very attacking, Good opening game. Likely to raise in value. Cheap.

do you have any Citeh coverage? I think it is suicide to go without any for their next 2 games. That's why I am getting Zab, even if I was set on Coleman before

No City and I'm thinking the same as you. I need to have some. But should I take a 4 point hit a well? Is 0.2 worth 4 points?

Wondering the same -- would need to take a hit to bring in Barkley but could take advantage of the price rise. A swing of 0.2.

he was early subbed off today, clearly rested, not an injury from what I saw. But NEW was awful. May pay off nicely, doesn't have to. Go with your gut.

Newcastle have 3 home fixtures from there next 4.
Fulham,Southampton and Hull are all games I'd expect Newcastle to win.
They just had a bad day like Arsenal on Sat.
This is coming from a Sunderland fan aswell.

I know their fixtures very well, as I was looking at Debuchy tonight. He was the worst player on the pitch though, so I leave it. I have more pressing transfers to make, so I am not going to get him, but if there was other situation, he would be one of my favourites. Would love to see one more game of him/them though.

I do think Ben Arfa was the only decent looking player on their team tonight. Could well pay off. But I couldnt possibly make that transfer right now as far more pressing transfers that I need to make

            Just found this on fiso:

FPL.com price changes occur between 00:30 and 03:30 GMT/BST each day.

            so that's rather vague.

1.why was Aguero taken off today at 60th minute? I hope its not because of an Injury.

            1. He hasn't played a single minute in pre-season. Not fully fit. Game was already won, there was no point keeping him on the pitch.

Seen a few people dismissing Arsenal players..
I know the other day was awful, but Arsenal have some good fixtures and will score goals against teams.. Walcott is still a great option

Only if the rest of your team is so amazing you don't need FTs for the next few weeks. Barkley will rise, but then he'll fall as soon as he doesn't play. It'll make you .2 or .3, but will cost 2 transfers. That's a pretty steep price to pay, as it probably won't earn you any points.
