On a day which struggled for goals and headline makers, Cityโ€™s stuttered victory against a confident Hull saw the Fantasy landscape shift and generate a series of selection headaches. Elsewhere, two largely ignored midfield assets earned precious points to boost their stock.

The Game Changer

Alvaro Negredo second goal in as many games has announced his arrival in the Premier League and accelerated doubts surrounding Edin Dzekoโ€™s status. Introduced from the bench at half-time to replace the Bosnian, Negredo latched onto a fine delivery from Pablo Zabaleta to head City into a lead which they scarcely deserved.

With a 25-goal tally in La Liga last term, Negredoโ€™s pedigree a proven marksman was unlikely to be kept shackled for long. Heโ€™s taken opportunities in his last two outings as a substitute and will now surely push for a start for the Gameweek 4 trip to the Britannia. While thatโ€™s good news for Manuel Pellegriniโ€™s attacking options, for Dzeko owners, todayโ€™s events were far from welcome.

The Underused

Robert Snodgrass monopolised our attention in the Norwich midfield over the pre-season, resulting in new signing, Nathan Redmond, being largely overlooked. The former Birmingham winger has, however, shone far brighter than his team-mate thus far, adding an end product to several sparkling performances to seal the points against Southampton.

Priced at just 5.0 in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game, Redmond has earned just over 1% ownership to this point. Thatโ€™s surely set to change over the international break with Snodgrass owners doubtless considering the trade that would free up a precious 1.5 in funds. With Chelsea, Arsenal and Spurs in the next five, however, both Redmond and Snodgrass come with a hefty caveat attached.

While Redmond was picked out in this weekโ€™s ScoutCast by Granvilleโ€™s Fantasy Island Risk pick, Newcastleโ€™s Hatem Ben Arfa was also singled out and was our headline act in the Differentials. Like Redmond, he duly delivered. A constant source of creativity and threat throughout, Ben Arfaโ€™s superb strike settled the clash with Fulham at St Jamesโ€™ Park. Unlike Redmond, the Frenchman has a string of favourable fixtures which lend themselves to further investment and a marked increase in his modest 4.5% FPL ownership.

The Selection Poser

As mentioned, Negredoโ€™s emergence could well sound the death knell for Edin Dzekoโ€™s security of start. The Bosnian is currently owned by over 19% of FPL managers following his impressive opening to the campaign and kind 7.5 valuation. Those managers will now be highly concerned going into the break with Negredo surely in line to get the nod for the trip to Stoke.

Gael Clichy owners also have plenty to ponder. Whilst Zabaleta benefited from clean sheet and assist returns, the former Gunner was consigned to the bench with Aleks Kolarov given the nod on the left of the City defence. Presumably, Clichy paid the price for the defeat to Cardiff. Unless Kolarovโ€™s start was part of a regular plan in home matches against teams likely to “park the bus”, Clichy may be another name scrapping to earn a start at the Britannia as Pellegrini puts his stamp on the City squad.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Well, almost 50% of the top 50000 players last year used their WC upto and including GW4, so it is surely a way to go.

If you resist, your source of funds is Coutinho, that's probably causing your itch, he's just part of all those mids who haven't had a great week (it's only been two weeks for him though). Anyway, he gives you a way into RVP or Suarez, if you are so inclined. I am not sure about RVP and our collective experiment with such a high cost player. Good luck.

I've scrimped and limped without using it until DGW's present themself, but it's a pain and you have to use a few more hits. It paid off one year when I did very well, but it's not a panacea.

GW4 is probably about right for half of us, if it snows like heck, then it's great to have one. this year no one has really run away on price except two.. coleman and barkley. Coleman is fine, Barkley... I wonder.

For those of you considering WC and not pressed the button. Try and resist...cant understand the logic unless your team is totally decimated with injury/suspension. With the new price increase threshold coupled with the number of blanks this week, there will be very few double risers.

Imho....you should be saving it for a juicy DGW.

If you must play a WC early, consider the week after the International blank. Injuries form national squad/transfers will be more clear.

That's how I've operated the last couple years but I'm not sure it's the best strategy. Getting off to a good start is just as important as finishing strong so I think the early wildcard is a very valid choice. Last year, lots of high ranking players wildcarded early and I didn't go shooting past them even though I played my wildcard about as close to perfectly as I could have. You can get prepared for the potential double gameweek by being smart with your transfers and taking a couple hits.

wonder how they would fit in FFP? ie if they qualified for europe with this squad they'd know beforehand they're gonna be disqualified anyway?

Nah. Their owner would just have to create a shell corporation and use it to make a 500 million offer for the goal-post naming rights.

Actually no - They had about 50 million banked plus the extra TV money (20-30 million) at the start of the window. Players sold are about 26 million so with the 110 laid out so far Spurs are only 10 million over budget. The scary part is with Bale sold they have a net spend of 0 and still have their whole original bankroll for future purchases.

Despite what Jose says I think Mata might go

Jose said he's lacking match fitness, and the only way to build up that fitness is to play in games - he's not even coming on as a sub!

I think Man Utd will say "give us Mata, and you can have Rooney"

Mata is a great player but strikers will always get the highest prices and highest wages. Rooney is definitely worth quite a bit more than Mata.

Aight the deed is done, WC Activated.

It''s not because I hate my team, and am making knee jerk moves like some others but I have made the decision I need RVP and the only way to get him in sensibly is with the WC. Played it tonight to catch a few rises with players I know for certain are not going to be in my team after the break (Toure, Morrison, Mirallas). That is all.

Night peeps, see you tomorrow for "Super Sunday"
