On a day which struggled for goals and headline makers, City’s stuttered victory against a confident Hull saw the Fantasy landscape shift and generate a series of selection headaches. Elsewhere, two largely ignored midfield assets earned precious points to boost their stock.

The Game Changer

Alvaro Negredo second goal in as many games has announced his arrival in the Premier League and accelerated doubts surrounding Edin Dzeko’s status. Introduced from the bench at half-time to replace the Bosnian, Negredo latched onto a fine delivery from Pablo Zabaleta to head City into a lead which they scarcely deserved.

With a 25-goal tally in La Liga last term, Negredo’s pedigree a proven marksman was unlikely to be kept shackled for long. He’s taken opportunities in his last two outings as a substitute and will now surely push for a start for the Gameweek 4 trip to the Britannia. While that’s good news for Manuel Pellegrini’s attacking options, for Dzeko owners, today’s events were far from welcome.

The Underused

Robert Snodgrass monopolised our attention in the Norwich midfield over the pre-season, resulting in new signing, Nathan Redmond, being largely overlooked. The former Birmingham winger has, however, shone far brighter than his team-mate thus far, adding an end product to several sparkling performances to seal the points against Southampton.

Priced at just 5.0 in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game, Redmond has earned just over 1% ownership to this point. That’s surely set to change over the international break with Snodgrass owners doubtless considering the trade that would free up a precious 1.5 in funds. With Chelsea, Arsenal and Spurs in the next five, however, both Redmond and Snodgrass come with a hefty caveat attached.

While Redmond was picked out in this week’s ScoutCast by Granville’s Fantasy Island Risk pick, Newcastle’s Hatem Ben Arfa was also singled out and was our headline act in the Differentials. Like Redmond, he duly delivered. A constant source of creativity and threat throughout, Ben Arfa’s superb strike settled the clash with Fulham at St James’ Park. Unlike Redmond, the Frenchman has a string of favourable fixtures which lend themselves to further investment and a marked increase in his modest 4.5% FPL ownership.

The Selection Poser

As mentioned, Negredo’s emergence could well sound the death knell for Edin Dzeko’s security of start. The Bosnian is currently owned by over 19% of FPL managers following his impressive opening to the campaign and kind 7.5 valuation. Those managers will now be highly concerned going into the break with Negredo surely in line to get the nod for the trip to Stoke.

Gael Clichy owners also have plenty to ponder. Whilst Zabaleta benefited from clean sheet and assist returns, the former Gunner was consigned to the bench with Aleks Kolarov given the nod on the left of the City defence. Presumably, Clichy paid the price for the defeat to Cardiff. Unless Kolarov’s start was part of a regular plan in home matches against teams likely to “park the bus”, Clichy may be another name scrapping to earn a start at the Britannia as Pellegrini puts his stamp on the City squad.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Evening all, any ideas here? Think I need to alter my defence:

    Migs (4m)
    Toure, Coleman, Figueroa, Celustika, Ward
    Wally, Lamps, Brady, Silva, Ravel
    Giroud, RVP, Sturridge

Figs and Celustika -> Chester and Dawson? (-4)

Is it the phone, or something to do with the site moving to a different host? I know typically 404 errors are client side but just seems strange

I've not paid any attention to price movements yet this season until now. Does anyone know if the protection rules are still the same? eg. I assume Anelka would still be protected for a week after losing his red flag. Also, has FISO proved reliable to date? (hoping to wait until after tomorrow for RVP in but funds are marginal)

FISO has not been so accurate this year - TotalFPL has been better. FISO are estimating a 68k rise threshold but i think its somewhere in the 50s. I've seen nothing to suggest the protection rules aren't still in place, though.

Weak midfield is the main problem, two cheap midfielders.

      Are you playing 4-3-3 then?

There won't be clean sheets every week, I'd also consider investing in Collins, as West Ham defence is decent

I've sort of gone for 15 players that can all be considered as potential starters in my team to give me as much flexibility as possible.

certain starters every week would be:

        vidic, nastasic
        walcott, michu, ben arfa
        sturridge, benteke, soldado

with the other spots up for grabs depending on fixtures!

i sort of see the problem of having benching decisions to make, perhaps it is better just to focus on a strong 11 with fodder on the bench? I really like Bradys value though.

Who knows. Welbeck matched him in the Swansea game.

Advice needed. Not had a bad week, 50 points with Cazorla, Soldado and Welbeck to play. Overall rank 64k, rank this week 24k.

I want to start bringing Chelsea players back in, but Arsenal have the better fixtures coming up.

      My squad right now is:

      Krul (Davis)

      Zabaleta
      Lescott
      Coleman
      (Whittaker & Chambers)

      Silva
      Ben Arfa
      Cazorla
      Nolan
      (Barkley)

      Benteke
      Soldado
      Welbeck

      Questions:

      1) Nolan for Schurrle/Ramsay/Lampard? Ramsay looks good value.
      2) How would you get Ivanovic in? Kompany's return also a concern. Wait till after internationals to see if he is fit and just pay the extra to bring him in?

      Thanks for any help!

Worth to downgrade Mirallas and upgrade Dzeko to Benteke/Soldado for 4 points hit?
Any player to recommend for Mirallas replacement?

I'm swapping him for Redmond, but might not do it for GW4.

Hmm, Redmond looks pretty good too.
Do you think Dzeko is worth keeping for one more week?

Soldado is not an upgrade imo.
Don't go with the flock on a team that has not gelled yet in a pick a Mix hell hole with a striker that's so over hyped on this site it's sickly.

      Thoughts on strikers:

For me it is important to have a definite starter and someone who is the teams "main man" the person the team relies on. So with that said here's a list of who I think will be the top consistent points scorers.

Benteke - will ALWAYS start if fit. Villa look to me as if they are going to score a lot of goals this season, even if they do concede just as many, Benteke will get the majority of them. 3 tough opening fixtures saw them beat arsenal and narrowly lose to chelsea and liverpool (and should have really beaten chelsea!)

Sturridge - If he plays regularly he will score, sometimes criticized for shooting too much, but imo all teams need at least 1 player who is shot crazy and even better still if they convert most of them! Only problem I see with this is if Suarez does stay at liverpool will this jeopardise his points potential?

RVP - Obvious reasons, no need to explain. Look at man united's squad and only other players I would consider is Rooney & Kagawa (if they start regularly). Only problem is price.

Rooney - IF he starts every game then definitely worth considering.

Soldado - Personally I dont think he's looked too sharp but a goal is a goal and even if its through penalties its still points! With the amount of signings spurs have made I cant really see the midfielders scoring a lot of goals and there will be a lot of rotation. So majority of spurs goals will come through Soldado.

Aguero - Was let down by him today but his kind of quality will regularly return assists and goals. Problem with Man City strikers is rotation although Negredo looks like a good shout aswell now that Dzeko is likely to be dropped. Would probably steer clear though and get either Yaya or Silva for attacking cover.

Giroud - Unless arsenal sign someone then giroud is another striker in a team who has no competition. However I think attacking cover can be gained better through walcott or cazorla.

Chelsea strikers look to rotate throughout the whole year so would go for either Hazard, Oscar or Lampard.

Other honorable mentions are FLETCHER, REMY AND CARROLL. When these are fully fit I think they will be great cheaper alternatives.

So to conclude I personally think I am going to go with:

      Benteke, Sturridge and Soldado.

But may transfer between others looking at form and fixtures.

Agree with pretty much all you said. Although for now i'm avoiding ALL attacking man city and chelsea players until i know the starters for sure. i will be keeping an eye on fletcher, but i don't think remy and carroll will be consistent points scorers.

out of all of them i think benteke is the main man!

Benteke looks like the best option as Villa don't have Europe to deal with and in my opinion means there is less chance of rotation, not that Spurs and Liverpool are that likely to rotate their best players, and main forwards.

I think Soldado will come good, especially if he has someone like Lamela supplying him with quality balls

Sturridge always carries that risk of injury, but again on pens and the main man

Can the transfer threshold be lowered later in the season as more players will become inactive and as a result of which the price rises and falls would become few and rare?

If there is some chance of that happening then WCing now may be a bad idea (unless one's team is dire) as chances of making money which people are so interested about may be a lot more then.

Yes - that's what has happened historically. The threshold for price changes depends on the active players (I believe this is measured on the no of people transferring players). But this shouldn't make it easier/harder to make money - it's designed so players rise and fall at the same rate.
