Gameweek 8 sees the launch of the latest team competition for the Fantasy Football Scout community organised by FFS UEFA. Following the success of last season’s ICC-themed cricket tournament, the group have created FFS Beach Soccer World Cup 2013, with 16 teams, each comprised of 11 players, competing for the crown.

If you’re new to the concept and are wondering just what all the chatter has been about, here’s a link to their site which will help explain matters in a little more detail.

Essentially, the scoring is based around the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game.

Each team started scouting for players (ie, FPL managers) on Sunday, October 6 and the recruitment period will come to a close on Wednesday, October 16, with the roster of team players announced on Thursday, October 17.

The teams are led by a captain and vice-captain and guided by a manager, who decide which seven of their 11 players to field each week – depending on the perceived prospects of their FPL line-ups -and which four to bench. Their overall FPL scores for the Gameweek, with hits taken into account, will form the team’s score that week – by outscoring their opponents, they chalk up a win.

The first match in Gameweek 8 will be no more than a friendly before the main event gets underway the following weekend. This sees the 16 teams compete in four groups of four between Gameweek 9 and 11 – the top two teams from each group will progress to the knockout stages, where sides square up in a head-to-head elimination process from Gameweek 12 until the final in Gameweek 15. For anyone looking for further information on how the tournament works, click here for extra details.

Over the past few days, the tournament has become a popular topic on our site as the recruitment drive gets underway. As a result, we have created this article to keep discussion on the tournament to one particular place – we’ll ensure the article is kept featured at the top of the homepage, thus making it easier to find for those already involved or looking to do so.

Good luck to all those taking part.

Ok, would like to pull out of team Tahiti, based on the emails and tweets I don't think I will be as committed to the team as the rest so probably best if you bring in someone else sooner for benefit of team.

Behind the Scenes Management for the FFS UEFA Beach World Cup

For a majority of players here, the most coveted prize, naturally remains the FPL Private Leagues, and simply getting a great overall rank. Now any competition that is organized must involve minimal work for the participant, and at the same time be something significantly different from FPL. A team based game covers most of these aspects, thus, making it one of the most interesting competitions hosted by us to date. There is something to play for, natural banter flows within the community, and it's short format, manages to keep you engaged.

But it's becoming clearer to me, as the other co-organizer, that a 16x15 could have worked out just as well as 16x11 for this tournament.

The initial team-based tournament had 15x8=120 entries. Thus, ENR and I, initially thought, that 16x11=176 teams is a solid upgrade and should be enough to cover most active members of FFS.

Obviously, seeing the interest, and hype it generated, we could have even gone with 16x15=240 players, which would been doubled the numbers of players from the previous team tournament. However, I truly believe, that fighting for a spot, and factors such as benching on a weekly basis, leads to greater interaction within the team, and propel a strong desire to play.

Was 16x11 enough or do you think we should have even more spots in the future? Would that have any effect on the level of interest?

I think you have done well and although hard to say there are probably only 20 or so who will miss out. What I would suggest is maybe having a rule where each team must have minimum of x from certain categories, such as people who haven't been in these comps before or something like that. Would end any clique claims I believe

I would actually like to see an American kind of template be used, as in the national league and American League.

So have one big tournament split into 2 leagues. And then winner of each league play in the cup final

Team selection with bigger squads will get more tedious, for those who put thought into it.

(Assume some are just starting their closest friends and others will start the first ones that pop into mind when hungover, likely the ones with the prettiest gravs πŸ˜‰ )

I would increase a little bit each tournament and see how it goes. You don't want to have empty seats either.

For what it's worth, we still have a little over 25 players on our initial scouting list depth chart that are not on any team. The overwhelming majority of those have been on-line very little or none during the international break. Come Friday, you could probably add players to every team without trouble team-wise, but recruiting on Friday would disrupt the flow of conversation about the imminent FPL weekend so probably isn't a good idea.

If you ever want to add players, I think adding one team to each group would be easiest.

I think more than 11 per side could get unwieldly communication wise.

You could also just say in the future that managers cannot be players too, as that alone would add 13 openings to the current tourney.

All great ideas lads. Keep 'em flowing.

If we just had more time and more support (currently its Prats n myself), we would have added more teams to this version itself. But hope you will appreciate that we have increased the number of participants from 120 in ICC to 176 in BSWC.

Keeping the size of the team to 11 means it was more manageable for the management. I appreciate there are a few managers who are more enthusiastic than the others. But its not an easy job being a manager or a captain or a vice. So we felt 11 was the optimal number.

I really think 16 x 11 is the optimal number of participants. Anything more becomes more challenging for us and the managers.

this is perfect as of now... Thanks Pratik.....

I personally think there's no need to increase the number now. The people who are competing at the present are the most active ones. If, the spots are increased it will surely give opportunities for some new faces to Join In this, which is obviously good, no doubt about it...But, having said that, from that huge number of participants some may not be as enthusiastic as others.... I'm saying this because, I've seen only 4/5 posters here who are still trying to join a team [maybe more are directly mailing the managers; i don't know]. Not much i have to say....

Since my loyal team created a discussion forum to discuss strategy, but haven't given me the password yet, I'm carrying on with the important work of being a manager - creating a new national anthem for the Solomon Islands.

The Solomon Islands National Anthem (sung to the tune of . . . well, I'm sure you'll figure it out)

Just sit right back and you'll hear a tale,
A tale of a fateful team
That started from a Norfolk port
    With a beach soccer dream.

    The captain was an Irishman,
    The skipper looked like Neil.
ten passengers set sail that day
For a three game week deal, a three game week deal.

    The discussion started getting rough,
    The plot was almost lost,
If not for the courage of the Council crew
All sanity would be lost, all sanity would be lost.

The ship set ground on the shore of this uncharted desert isle
    With Philman
    The Gooner too,
    Sir Arselot and Le Blue,
    The movie star*
    The Konehead and Namtab,
    Here on the Solomon Isles.

So this is the tale of the Islanders,
They're here for a long, long time,
They’ll hang with the best of them,
    And surely win big time.

The Captain and the Skipper too,
    Will do their very best,
    To make the others comfortable,
    In the tropic island nest.

No phone, no lights, no elite stars,
    Not a single luxury,
    Like Robinson Crusoe,
    As unknown as can be.

So join us here each week my friends,
You're sure to get a smile,
    From eleven stranded Islanders,
    Here on the Solomon Isles

Seeing as how USA and Ivory Coast have fearfully run away from the Tahiti Twitter challenge, how would you fancy a friendly against us on the following condition?

If Solomon outscore Tahiti by 50 or less OR lose to Tahiti, you will make 10 tweets from your official account with the hashtag #TrolledAtTahiti

If Solomon score 51 or more than Tahiti, we will make 10 tweets with any hashtag you want.

Tried that with Senegoal, but like brave Sir Robin of yore, they turned about, and valiantly, chickened out. Hesitate to make that challenge with Tahiti as it would mean negotiating with Thomass.

Our boss, Thomass67, seems to require a VC to assist him in his impressive contribution to the Tahiti National team.

The team has nominated two candidates for the position:

    A) Super Oscar Babyyyy
    B) Bemba Da

Who do you think is the best fit for the VC role?

I had Altidore, Koscielny, and several other mistakes.

One week does not build a clue, or make one clueless, does it? It's all about how we do over 38.

Fine by me if you sway toward the Super Oscar Baby. Didn't mean to bring out the claws.

And, by the by, why is the deposed interim captain inquiring instead of the manager or captain? Tahiti's management structure seems curious.

I think ENR is the BSWC's Rafa Benitez. I expect ENR will leave Tahiti before the tournament starts to captain or vice-captain another team. RonH, in the role of Mourinho (at Inter & Chelsea) will replace ENR at Tahiti no doubt.

responding to conversation in non-BSWC thread; I thanked for his reply, but mentioned I'd only be on this thread until I fell asleep now as switched to my iPhone and I'm not going back & forth between 2 threads with very comments on my iPhone... I could be doing something "useful" like playing Scrabble while hoping my sons stay asleep until I fall asleep at least, and then maybe a bit longer

now i see why daniel is leader of tahiti

Macedonia is probably the most pathetic football nation in europe and he couldn't stand it anymore so he joined to Tahiti

Tahiti is not great as well but still they are better than Macedonia

***BREAKING NEWS*** Live from Léopold Sédar Senghor International Airport.

Senegoal team on it's way to Ivory coast for their friendly versus Ivory Coast, this weekend.

Missing from the team is vice captain Sporting. Questioned by reporters, team manager Christina had the following to say on the matter:

"...Sporting has had an early reminder of the standards that go along with being part of team Senegoal. Unfortunately for Sporting we've got a strong focus on breaking curfews and he broke a protocol in that area by returning 35 minutes early last night.

We addressed it as a team. The leadership group set the protocol and management drive it.
Asked if Sporting, who's been so impressive throughout the team's media campaign via twitter , had been disappointed by his actions, the manager could only nod in agreement.

I don't think he wanted to give up his speedo lightly. It's been dealt with. Case closed.
I will now act as player/manager and Champ will take on the roll as vice captain. Sporting will stay behind in Dakar and will continue running our social media campaign...."
