While expectations were modest, tonight’s Selhurst Park encounter brought a close to the Gameweek and provided a showcase for an array of budget and mid-price talent, whilst also serving up a goal of rare quality.

The Game Changer

Having struck a true goal of the season contender, the night has to belong to Pajtim Kasami. His winning header on the opening day at Sunderland saw the Swiss midfielder emerge as an unlikely budget favourite. Having blanked in his last four starts, tonight’s stunning volley will have re-ignited that early season interest.

Priced at 4.5 in the Fantasy Premier League game, Kasami could offer a true alternative to the likes of Ravel Morrison and United’s Adnan Januzaj. Having started seven of eight league matches, his place in Martin Jol’s lineup has looked assured – his returns perhaps stifled to this point by Fulham faltering form.

Tonight’s convincing victory might signal a change and bring Kasami to the fore as a viable option as a fifth midfielder to free up funds for the big guns. Long-term, Jol’s plentiful options on the flank will provide stern competition. Tonight’s sublime goal offered his manager a reminder of Kasami’s potential as a special talent, however.

The Underused

Dimitar Berbatov already has fewer owners than Kasami – an extraordinary statistic when you consider that the Bulgarian is a proven goalscorer and creator of pedigree. Like Kasami, Berbatov has suffered from Fulham’s start to the season which has seen his return limited to just a single assist in his seven starts before tonight’s goal.

Having slumped to just 7.1 in price, there’s little doubt that a Berbatov, in his pomp, could prove a significant differential if acquisition can be timed with an upturn in form. With three of the toughest defences up next, that time is perhaps some way off. A run of four home matches in six from Gameweek 12 could be the window to cast an eye in Berbatov’s direction should Martin Jol’s men build on tonight’s result.

The Selection Poser

The capitulation of Ian Holloway’s defence at set-plays in the second period will ring alarm bells for those banking on the budget appeal of the Palace rearguard. Danny Gabbidon and Joel Ward are present in almost 8% of FPL squads but, on tonight’s showing, their potential, even as bench warmers, looks limited compared to fellow promoted assets at Hull City and Cardiff.

Arsenal are next to face Palace – not the fixture to help rebuild the confidence after a drubbing. There’s little doubt that many will have the armband on their Gunners’ assets come Saturday’s deadline.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Well I'm thinking of getting two Chelsea players after this GW, fixtures are tasty. Hazard & Oscar too much? Should probably pick One of them, but I can't decide.

Fair point, cheers man. Want Terry in as well, so Both Ocar and Hazard could be too much. Terry, Oscar/Hazard and Silva could be golden.

Why would that possibly be? Everytime ive seen him play it seems like he is the heart of every single attack. Unless you have aguero I think silva is the best option for man city. Wont get rotated like aguero

Team link? You're optimistic on Chester. I'd trade Baker for Ben Turner and then the following week do RVP for Aguero (for the great fixtures) and maybe later upgrade Barkley with the spare change. It's a very strong team which is well placed for the fixtures ahead.

I hate to do it but after tonight's result I think I need better Arsenal cover than just Koscielny for their game against Palace next week. Walcott has had a setback and Ozil goes up tonight...should I pull the trigger? Robin's got Stoke at home next, on the flipside.

If Lukakau was at 8.0 at the start of this gameweek and he went up by 267% in total FPL on Saturday night , does that not mean that he will go up to 8.2 over 2 days? (given that a player can only rise 0.1 every day)

    He is currently 8.1

it resets every time the price rises.. so if a player rises by 300% he rises .1 and then has to rise 100% again to rise again

    Anyone keeping Eriksen?

Intial thought was to sell him , however chances are he was only rested after playing twice for Denmark during the break.
Hull up next and not really sure who i would replace with. Have Collocin and Chester on the sicklist so think i will givve Erikson another chance

I have 2 ft and dont wanna waste it. So I might do a sideways move, Eriksen to Townsend today (0.2 price gain) as well as to release cash for future moves

    Mig/4.0
    Terry/Vidic/Coleman/(Clyne/Turner)
    Michu/Brady/Ramsey/Barkley(Brady)
    Giroud/Lukaku/Suarez

Any advice, I'd like Silva long term but seems silly to use a FT before Chelsea which is a bit of a questionable fixture. Any other potential advice?
And should i bench Terry over Clyne?

      Michu/Hazard/Ramsey/Barkley (Brady) is my midfield).

I'd stick with Clyne. Fulham were impressive tonight but they'll find it a lot trickier against the Saints.

Can someone steer me in the right direction?

2 FT with .2 in the bank.

    Migs (steer)

    Vidic, Walker, Koscielny (Burner, Chester)

    Ozil, Michu, Moses, Brady (JWP)

    Rooney, Suarez, Giroud

    A couple thoughts...

I have to get a Chelsea defender in after this GW. Who do you pick and how do you do it?

I've always planned on getting Benteke in, assuming for Rooney. But I shouldn't do that until next week, right? Rooney at home against Stoke could be gold.

I have to get JWP out, how should I do it.

    Thanks guys!

Yeah I'd hang on to Rooney for a week. Maybe save your transfer and swap Rooney & JWP for Benteke & someone else after the next deadline for free. That's what I'm doing with RvP and my unwanted mid. 🙂

I'm giving Rooney another go against Stoke at home, then I will probably get rid. So I could bring in Benteke there, but I will have the money for Aguero or Suarez so it is less tempting.

I think the first few gw's had everyone scrimping on midfield and loading up on strikers and defenders, now people can't bring in a big mid without taking a hit or replacing one of their few existing big mids.

Honestly I feel this season is going to shape up to 3/3/3 with one rotating spot amonst the cheapies, but those who've committed to more exotic defensive line-ups cant readjust easily.
