Stoke have problems at the back ahead of the trip to Old Trafford, with Ryan Shawcross and Geoff Cameron both doubts. Jose Enrique may miss out for Liverpool’s home game with West Brom. Hull keeper Allan McGregor is out for six weeks with a thigh injury. Martin Jol has worries over Bryan Ruiz and Brede Hangeland, Ciaran Clark is back for Villa, while Roberto Martinez hints he may continue to sub off Romelu Lukaku late on in games:

Mark Hughes has worries over two of his first-choice defenders as Stoke prepare for the trip to United. In his Thursday afternoon press conference, the Potters boss admitted Geoff Cameron and Ryan Shawcross are both doubtful to face the champions:

“Ryan hasn’t trained this week through illness which hasn’t been ideal. We sent him home again this morning to give him an extra day, and hopefully he will turn back up tomorrow raring to get going again. At the moment I am confident that he will pull through in time to play, just as I am with regards to Geoff, who missed the game against West Brom last weekend. He has trained today with the lads, and hopefully he will come back in tomorrow having not suffered any reaction to the calf injury he picked up on international duty.”

Arsene Wenger confirmed earlier this morning that Mathieu Flamini is available after missing the midweek Champions League match at home to Dortmund with the head knock that forced him off against Norwich last Saturday. Jack Wilshere will be assessed later today, though, after he was subbed off with an ankle problem in the 2-1 loss to Jurgen Klopp’s side, while the Gunners boss also admitted Mesut Ozil suffered from sickness prior to Wednesday’s defeat.

Paul Lambert has revealed Ciaran Clark is back in contention for Villa after missing out at the last minute through illness against Spurs. The midlands outfit look set to welcome Christian Benteke to the starting XI for the visit of Everton, with Lambert explaining his decision to bench the Belgian on his comeback appearance against Andre Villas-Boas’ side:

“Christian had only trained for three or four days in a month. It’s just not enough to put him into that scale of a game and we didn’t want to re-injure him or anything like that. It was the right thing to bring him on and he might have scored on another day but his contribution was ok.”

Roberto Martinez took time to discuss his decision to sub off Romelu Lukaku with over 20 minutes left of Everton’s win over Hull last week. The Toffees boss admitted that fatigue played a part after the Belgian back-to-back internationals, though, a little worryingly for Lukaku’s owners, he also revealed the on-loan forward is yet to reach the level of fitness required to maintain his style of play over an entire match:

“I wouldn’t want him to change that intensity. That would be a big mistake. You’ve got two options (to keep him on the pitch longer); reduce the intensity and last over 90 minutes or work slowly over time to expand the quality of his play up to 90 minutes. It’ll take time but that’s what we want to do.. the intensity that he plays with, any player would struggle to hold that longer than 20 minutes. Obviously he’s now trying to work towards 90 minutes but it’s more focussing on the quality of his play than the quantity. I’m very pleased with the manner he played 90 minutes against Fulham in the cup, and then Newcastle. Now it’s a matter of assessing each week. The Hull game was difficult for him because he’d had two tiring games for Belgium that took a lot out of him. It’s just a matter of time as he develops.”

Steve Bruce was left reeling after first-choice keeper Allan McGregor was sidelined with a thigh injury. The Hull boss confirmed Steve Harper –priced at 4.0 in Fantasy Premier League – is set to deputise in the meantime:

“We’ve just found out this morning that Allan is going to be out for five or six weeks. As I’ve said repeatedly, injuries are the one area where we needed to stay fit and healthy and this one couldn’t have come at a worse time. Allan will be a big miss for us because he has played very, very well and we wish him a speedy recovery…“This is the reason we brought Steve in to be fair. He’s got an abundance of Premier League experience and we’re lucky that we can call upon somebody with his experience.”

Martin Jol is sweating on the fitness of Bryan Ruiz and Brede Hangeland ahead of Fulham’s testing trip to Southampton. The Cottagers boss explained:

“We have to test Bryan Ruiz tomorrow – he has a back problem. We kept him on during the Crystal Palace game and he had to have an injection afterwards. Hopefully it will settle. Hangeland has got problem with a nerve in his leg so will probably be out. He was injured before and he had a medical check and played two international games. I thought ‘that was quick’ but I asked him if he was fit and he said he was.”

Jose Enrique could miss out with a knee injury for Liverpool again, according to reports, allowing Aly Cissokho another start on the left. Brendan Rodgers has also revealed Lucas will return after he missed the previous match when his partner went into labour, whilst Philippe Coutinho has stepped up his recovery from a shoulder injury and is poised to come into contention for next week’s trip to Arsenal:

“He might just be short for this weekend. He has re-joined training with the group. He’s been on the field doing a lot of physical work. He has joined in with the team on a non-contact basis. I think, after the weekend, he’ll be fine. He has got really good strength in his shoulder now; it’s just getting him up to speed in training and joining the group.He has been in the last couple of days and has looked brilliant, to be honest – like he has never been away with his flow and fluency with the ball.”

Steven Davis is the only worry for Mauricio Pochettino ahead of the visit of Fulham. The midfielder has started each of the last three and seems to have established himself as a regular for Southampton – his possible absence could allow Rickie Lambert to return to the XI, after the forward was dropped for the first time this term in the previous Gameweek.

Emmanuel Adebayor returned to the Tottenham squad in last night’s 2-0 Europa League win over FC Sheriff. The Togo international was an unused sub in a game that saw Jan Vertonghen notch his first of the season (courtesy of a Christian Eriksen assist) before Jermain Defoe netted the second. Eriksen’s owners will be somewhat apprehensive after he was handed the full 90 minutes, while Lewis Holtby – the Dane’s replacement against Villa last week – was given just over 10 minutes from the bench late on. Andre Villas-Boas trialled Vertonghen alongside Vlad Chiriches in the heart of the back-four before the withdrawal of Ezekiel Fryers forced a shake-up that resulted in the Romanian shifting to full-back.

Michu returned to goalscoring form last night as Swansea drew with Kuban Krasnodar in the Europa League. Michael Laudrup started with Wilfried Bony up top before replacing the Ivorian just before the hour mark, while regulars such as Leon Britton, Michel Vorm and Jonathan de Guzman warmed the bench in the stalemate. Despite being passed fit last week, Pablo Hernandez was not even amongst the subs last night – a sign Laudrup is being cautious with the Spaniard’s fitness after weeks on the sidelines with a hamstring injury.

        -12, Thought I may as well change it up for the upcoming weeks.
        Only players I would consider from City are Aguero/Silva.
        Rest have lost their appeal. Had to make 4, as Ben Davies is out injured for me 🙁

        yaya out of form, rather have silva, but need chelsea coverage and the best one in oscar/hazard. terry face city, bound to concede this week, taken the hit to fund transfers and to get a swansea def who could potentially return me 6pts, worth it in my eyes, given their fixtures to come.

      Good transfers, except for getting rid of Chelsea backline that is more constant source of points than their midfield, and taking hit to do that. But I understand why you brought in the players you did. Tough sacrifices though, taking hit to get rid of YaYa and Terry.

      I personally think it would be silly for Arsene to play a weakened against Palace. They are high on form and morale, put the strongest team out, score half a dozen goals and send a message that they are out for blood this season.

          I guess Wenger will play his best team against Palace. No reason to do anything else. Seen the fixtures they have after the Chelsea clash, Cup just cannot be a priority to them. They are going to rotate in the Cup match, even if they played the combined team of Chelsea, Liverpool and both Manchester clubs. And we have seen before how high Wenger rates the domestic cups, and that ain't high. Palace game is a must win, and not to be risked. Wenger will think like that too.

          That said, the team above is hardly weakened. Basically the best XI minus the unfit players. If Özil is fit, I expect him to play and Rosicky to start against Chelsea with Wilshere.

        Not rested, but if he was sick in the last match and still is either sick or somewhat unfit after that, he might not be risked to start against Palace as Wenger does have viable options.

        I reckon Wenger will priotise the league this season, while he has a chance of winning. This means Carling Cup / FA cup will likely see weaker teams.

        Champions league however is the exception, he really wants to have that missing bit in his record.

    The eriksen decision is really irritating so decided to put down my logic and needed some opinion

    • My team (1Ft and 3.4m)
    Boruc
    Vidic baines dawson (burner Wilson)
    Michu ramsey januzaj eriksen (barkley)
    Giroud suarez lukaku

    • Thoughts on whether he will play or not?

    - He played the full 90mins so logic suggests he won't start
    - Holtby's performance last gw against villa was decent (not brilliant but not the worse), he is a very combative and a hard working player which was needed against villa away
    - They are playing at home this gw against hull who are tough to breakdown so might need eriksen's vision to unlock them
    - Have barkley on the bench and assuming the rest of my attackers play, barkley will come in even if eriksen doesn’t play so no train smash

    • His replacement (current front runner: hazard)

    - ideally would have liked one more game to see how he fares vs. oscar and silva
    - however, if I plan to bring hazard in next gw, I can rather bring him in now, he could well this gw, and I catch the price rises

    Conclusion (part 1): do eriksen >> hazard THIS gw 🙂

    • The conundrum re: City’s 4 tasty fixtures from gw10. Options are either silva or augero
    - If lukaku doesn’t perform this week, then will do vidic + lukaku >> chico + augero (-4)..both good moves
    - If lukaku performs this week, that’s the PROBLEM..wouldnt make sense to get augero then as I am happy with my remaining strikers (giroud/suarez), so the only other option to bring in is Silva however I would have already done eriksen >> hazard in gw9 and no way to bring in silva

    Conclusion (part 2): Just save the FT, have barkley if eriksen doesn’t start. And depending on lukaku’s performance this week, then assess whether to bring in augero or silva…..agree???? 🙂

      I reckon Boruc, Ivanovic, Chico and Fonte are good for at leat the next 3 GW's.

      Try and upgrade Vlaar but not too many options at 4.9 or below, I would have said Shaw ( but already have Fonte). Possibly Curtis Davies, but obviously bad fixture this week.

    So a rival of mine starts Davies with boruc on the bench.

    I'm just waiting for the day when Boruc gets a knock on 70 mins with a clean sheet and Davies comes on for a 1pointer.

    That would be karma of the highest order!

    S&S - does one of them really need to go?

    Have been planning on ditching one next week for ars away, but that tough fixture aside, they still have great fixtures and both are bang in form. And I expect LIV to score at Arsenal.

    Those holding both - what's the plan?

        Losing Suarez over Sturridge would make make my transfer plans much easier.

        GW9: Nolan -> Hazard
        GW10: Saurez -> Aguero

        If I lose Sturridge instead I either need to take a hit or miss out on one of Hazard/Aguero. Any idea which fixtures Suarez could be in danger of missing due to the playoffs?

    1 FT to replace Lamps.

    Townsend?

    Or Lallana ?

    Townsend has the flair and the fixture but Lallana's next 3 look good and he HAS scored points where Townsend has not bar the last game.

    Front 8 currently:
    Ozil/Michu/Oscar/Ramsey/Barkley
    Suarez/Giroud/Lukaku

    NEXT week:
    a) Michu & Lukaku -> Townsend & Aguero
    b) Michu -> Silva
    c) Lukaku -> Benteke

    What do you think? (a or b leaves me with spare change to upgrade in defence, c empties the coffers)

      Suarez/Giroud/Lukaku

      I'm seeing how Michu and Lukaku perform compared with Silva/Benteke, I'm planning B or C. Always worried about Man City strikers game time.

    It may have already been asked, but why is RVP flagged? Also say at the moment he is on 800,000 ownership, with the level of decrease, I am thinking that his price could only fall to around 13.2 max if he was sold at his current rate? i.e. losing say 0.1 per week for the next 6 / 7 weeks.

      Very hard to get to 13.2. 10% per 0.1 in normal circumstances.

      Without wasted transfers.

      720K - 13.8
      650K - 13.7
      585K - 13.6
      525K - 13.5
      475K - 13.4
      425K - 13.3

      A lot of dead teams have him captain.

    Glen Johnson nailed? wisdom gone on loan now so unless they carry on with their stupid 3 at the back i think he should be safe?

      They will carry on with 3 at the back its rodgers pet project.. but... Johnson will play in a wing back roll.. more points

                  Right LOL.
                  Like i said LFC full backs have a better points potential playing 3 at the back the full backs are wing backs... Johnson is a cert he has little competition Enrique has Cissoko for competition and i get the feeling Rodgers prefers Cissoko.

    Liv vs West Brom. Ref Jon Moss has given the most penalties since the start of last season. With 3 already given this season.

    Is vert going to justify his price anytime soon? Tempted to swap him for a swans defender and spend money on mid or attack...

    This place can be poison on Fridays. All assumptions and conjecture based on very little.

    Ozil being the case in point. He will be rested, he was sick.... he coughed three times during the CL match...!

    Cue people then removing the captains armband, or God forbid, benching him or any ARS player.

    Follow the example of the casuals, who log in, move the armband to Ozil, Ramsey or Giroud, then log out again. Then watch as the points roll in.
