Having cast an eye over those teams with strong fixtures over the next four-to-six Gameweeks in yesterday’s article, the second part looks at teams with less fortunate schedules. Tough times are on the horizon for David Moyes’ men, whilst the best value defence in the game so far are set for a testing trio of opponents in the next five:

Man United

United11

After a dubious start to their title defence, it’s fair to say that United have emerged from their purple patch of fixtures in slightly better form. They’ll need all that progress and more if they’re to grab the points required from the next four fixtures – home games against Arsenal and Everton combine with a trip to Tottenham to form a potent brew for the Reds to swallow.

Owners of either of the in-form strikers Wayne Rooney or Robin van Persie are unlikely to sell up now but with no clean sheets since their home clash with Crystal Palace back in Gameweek 4, anyone still holding the likes of Nemanja Vidic and Patrice Evra may regard these fixtures as the last straw. In midfield, Shinji Kagawa’s slow ascent to favour isn’t happening quickly enough for even his most ardent fans – Adnan Januzaj has started three of the last four and, having been rested from midweek European duties, looks set to start against the Gunners this weekend.

West Brom

wba11

Despite giving a good account of themselves lately, Albion’s short term fixtures nevertheless hold a sting to stay our transfer hands. Up next is a visit to Stamford Bridge while the Baggies also entertain City in the next four.

Once those fixtures are dispensed with, the pastures look greener but for now, anyone looking at Stephane Sessegnon may think twice, while Gareth McAuley is likely to rely on attacking returns, rather than clean sheets, to help him climb the leaderboard. With Billy Jones ruled out due to a hamstring injury, Morgan Amalfitano’s owners will be hoping he doesn’t continue in defence – the Frenchman was moved to right-back after Jones was withdrawn on 30 minutes against Palace last weekend.

Fulham

Fulham11

Still clinging to his job, Martin Jol has both form and fixtures against him as he battles to drag the Cottagers out of the mire. With a trip to Anfield next and games against Tottenham and Everton also in the next six, any thoughts of punting on a Fulham player must surely be shelved, pending an upturn in both performance and schedule.

As noted in last week’s article, Fulham’s highest scoring player in the Fantasy Premier League game is Steve Sidwell, a fact that paints a vivid picture of an anaemic season so far. Jol will be desperately hoping his mercurial Bulgarian Dimitar Berbatov can get into gear and atone for scoring just one goal in the first 10 games. Also on Jol’s wishlist will be a happy outcome to the club’s bid to overturn Sascha Riether’s three match ban for stamping on Adnan Januzaj in last week’s loss at United.

BE WARY OF

Southampton
This season’s budget gems, very few Fantasy managers have made it this far without acquiring one or more of the Saints’ high-value assets. Owners need beware, however – the fixtures are about to turn for Mauricio Pochettino’s team and they’ll need to dig deep to keep their lofty league position. The visit of Hull holds little fear but the following four games include back-to-back trips to London to meet Arsenal and Chelsea and a home game against Man City.

Artur Boruc may be relying on save points, while managers may be looking for players to rotate with their Saints defenders over the short-term period. James Ward-Prowse’s (4.2) return to the starting XI could have been timed better for Fantasy managers while Rickie Lambert’s disappointing start to the season looks unlikely to turn around just yet. Adam Lallana has climbed 0.6 since Gameweek 7 but may struggle to rediscover his form after producing back-to-back blanks in the last two.

Sunderland
Gus Poyet’s difficult entry into Wearside life isn’t about to get any easier as the fixtures continue to punish his new side. With a daunting trio of visitors to the Stadium of Light – Man City, Chelsea and Tottenham – and an away form that has seen them fail to score on the road since August, Fantasy interest is at an all-time low. Jozy Altidore’s miserable form persists but this period does afford Fantasy managers an opportunity to monitor Steven Fletcher for signs of life. In midfield, Adam Johnson and Emanuele Giaccherini have found themselves omitted from the XI, restricting options further – the Poyet shake-up may even promote Seb Larsson as a contender from Gameweek 16 when Sunderland embark upon a prolonged period of favourable fixtures.

Cardiff City
In party mode after winning the Welsh derby, the Bluebirds can’t afford to get too carried away. The next two home games sees Malky Mackay’s men face United and Arsenal – such fixtures could quell any surge of interest in Steven Caulker after his second goal of the season, while budget midfielder Peter Whittingham may find himself swapped for another low-price contender with better fixtures. With Fraizer Campbell and Peter Odemwingie having managed a single goal between them since the former’s August brace, Mackay will be desperate for Andrea Cornelius to finally overcome the ankle problem that has curtailed his start to life in the Premier League.

Fully expecting Barkley to start this week, had his rest last week.

In that case do you still need to take a hit?

Michu will drop more, so it depends on how much you need the funds to make the moves you want

City form away has been patchy.

Ramsey playing away to UTD. No guarantees of 6 points there I'm afraid.

If i had to pick one, I'd go with Silva though.

Does that leave you enough to get Aguero next week though?

Posted this earlier, looking for some more thoughts.

This is for all my fellow FFS'ers who have missed the boat(more like a ship) on Ramsey / too stubborn to get him:

    - Owned by 55.6%, no point getting him now.
    - Best to find the next 'Ramsey' before everyone else. See: Coutinho / Sess / Silva / Theo
    - Even the great RVP had a blank spell last year, no reason why Ramsey wont.
    - Crazy to think he will keep scoring at the same rate.
    - With Fixtures piling up and Arsenal injuries clearing, he will definitely be rested occasionally.

Finally, I find it more fun / challenging trying to succeed without him!

I might have been with you yesterday or the day before… but I took the plunge at 7.1m when upgrading Giroud to Suarez. Sorry!

Would love another Ramsey to appear…

Who are you top 3 potential Ramsey impersonators for the rest of the season?

Its more about getting the right players in at the right time. You may not keep them for long but those 4-5 weeks could be immense.

Gut says Coutinho should do well. Also Cazorla could be a top differential from next week.

With Suarez & Aguero being the favoured two strikers, getting the right 3rd striker will be the key imo.

I just don't get it, when a player is scoring points, people refuse to get them. Just because he has a high ownership, yes when he blanks you can have another player against him, with no guarantee that this player will also not draw a blank. And when he does score well, over 50 of the game are gaining on you.

There isn't an exact formula for success here, but when a player is consistently scoring points, at an average price, is a no brainer for me..

I think your train of thought can make the difference between a top 50k and a top 5k finish

I don't get it either. Those who don't have him yet may have missed the first few weeks of what should be a season-long voyage, but better late than never. And if it does run aground later then there is always the option of jumping ship, as there is for any other player. Meanwhile we Ramsey-owners should continue to gain at the expense of the Ramsey-deniers. The question for the future will be whether he is still worth getting at say 9.5 next season.

Sunderland had two of their players sent off last week..city is running riot currently...and City do score goals even when they lost points in away games except for goaless draw against stoke..Sunderland at a worse position than fulham..

On the other side..Liverpool playing at home..they have got 1 week rest...Suarez is more nailed on..very confusing...

Mad idea has crossed my mind, Michu > Silva & Rooney > Lukaku (-4).

Definite battle of head against heart here as I think what's stopping me is more historical fear of what Rooney has done to my Arsenal than actual likelihood of scoring. Lukaku at Palace is immense, Silva looks like one of the few mids worth owning, and Lukaku saves me a huge 2.8 over Rooney. I could then upgrade Amalfitano to a 7.something later and have a midfield of two big hitters, Ramsey and a 7.something.

Yeah I don't see that as a good fixture attacking wise, Cardiff are well stubborn at home, could even see an upset.

But yeah Lukaku doesn't have the easiest fixtures. Does deliver against big teams though. Anything could happen in the Merseyside derby, that's a high scoring game. Game after that is great. Might sell after that

When no real consistency from the 7+ midfielders, I don't know why anyone would be looking to go for 4 of them. I get what your saying about Lukaku this week. And isn't a Silva carrying a knock from last night, may be worth waiting on that.

I don't think this trend will continue and midfielders will surely come back to being good options at some point. And being ready to steal a march on the rest is wise. Just think, even in the short term, Rooney will outscore Lukaku and is a serious captain option whereas I would have reservations about putting the armband on Lukaku. My rival has Lukaku and I fear he will do some more damage to my quest to catch him and the others

Yeah that's what I was thinking, I think midfielders can't go on scoring so low. Particularly given they've missed so many chances, it just seems improbable. Walcott, Mirallas etc have been finishing like kids. Not for a whole season surely. So am very keen to increase spend in midfield and one forward has to go.

A lot rests on whether the old United can return under Moyes and that question is as hard to answer as any. These fixtures under SAF teams of old would be quite attractive.

I do have a few on the watch list but that's as far as it's gone so far. I have manoeuvred myself into a position where I have to make a decision soon on what to do with my front 3. Most expensive trio in the game and I am reluctant to ship any! But I have no wiggle room in my side without punting one as my current side acts arn't delivering. May wait to the next wildcard as I'm a few trades away from a couple of big hitting mids.

I could do Michu for Ramsey straight up or.

If Silva is able to play:
    GJ -> Davies/Williams
    or
    Coleman -> Rat

    then
Michu -> Silva for -4 hit

Coleman for Rat seems like a better choice but I have had Coleman since the start so I will only get 5.2 even though he's 5.5 (currently) so if I want him back I will have to pay more for him

So should I just get Ramsey or get Silva for a hit and if I go for the hit should I take out Coleman or GJ

Hello, please may I have some advice

5.3m for a defender to replace Clyne, any suggestions? Koscielney is tempting me.

    Baines, Ivanovic, Shaw, (Coleman, Clyne)
    Townsend, Morrison, Ozil, Janujaz (Cabaye)
    Rooney Aguero, Giroud.

Secondly who in team should be benched?

Midfielders don't seem to be performing apart from Ramsey who I've shamefully missed out on. Ivanovic has Westbrom at home this week though, surely now is the wrong time to downgrade him?

Yes I wasn't talking about this week. Meant long term. I think you have a good enough defence to keep bringing you the points. I'd upgrade the midfield. They will start firing soon

I agree when my main man Theo Walcott is back I will invest straight in him. Im hoping one of Townsend, Janujaz and Morrison become keepers so I wont have to outlay too much on the midfield.

Do Arsenal have good fixtures in the medium term, if so Kos maybe the man for me.

Rat for Clyne (SOT/WHM rotate H/A) which gives you a Shaw/Rat rotation. Save the other transfer so you'll have 2 over the int'l break. Personally, I think Townsend is ridiculously overrated as a FF option. Taking a shoot-on-sight approach from 25-30 yards is not a recipe for FF success. That's who I would look to upgrade out of the int'l break.

any news on silva as yet....i have narrowed down my choices somewhat

    boruc (myhill)
    vidic baines dawson (burner wilson)
    ramsey barkley hazard michu (januzaj)
    suarez lukaku aguero

    A: michu >> coutinho....
    B: michu + vidic >> silva + nasty/mert (-4)
C: michu + wilson >> silva + baker (-4)....assuming baker is nailed on

    Consequences:
A: i will HAVE to upgrade wilson next gw due to fixtures of other def
B: i will probably upgrade wilson next gw to a 4.5m def
C: I might survive with the def and use next week's FT on a attackin player

    Leaning towards A or C

I don't intend to spend 11m+ on all three of my strikers all season as I think mids have to come back eventually. But I can't sell either of them really. I think I'll go with what always work: wait for one of them to get injured.

Thought Eden was our only player actually trying to score on Saturday, so would be a bit stiff if he got the axe tonight.

    Advice needed.

-4 on GW already getting Aguero in on Saturday

    A) Play 4 man defence (Vlaar, Coleman, Dawson, Lovren)
    B) Play 4 weakened man midfield (Hazard, Ramsey, Ravel & Amalfitano)
    C) Michu >> Coutinho for -8 pt hit and put Amalfitano on the bench
    D) As C but put both Amalfitano and Ravel on the bench whilst playing 4-3-3

Forward trio is Aguero, Suarez and Rooney 🙂

Quick RMT + advice : Current team -

    Boruc (4.0)

    Coleman Chico Rat (Rosenior Wilson)

    Silva Oscar Hazard Ramsey (RavMo)

    Rooney Suarez(C) Aguero

    (0 in the Bank)

But now I'm having Özil-withdrawal pangs and mildly regret doubling up on the Chelsea attack. Post internationals, over the next two weeks I'd like to bring back Özil for Hazard, and finance this with downgrading Coleman to Olsson(Norwich) and one of the following :

    1. Boruc -> Harper. How long is Harper nailed on for ?
    2. Boruc -> Myhill. Fixtures don't look enticing.
    3. Wilson -> Murner.

What option would you pick ? I just can't enjoy FPL playing with heavy hitters in defence and counting the number of passes Vertonghen makes :-/ I'm a big fan of the cheeky CS that Rosenior could get me, and the attacking points my front 7 racks up ! 🙂
