The waiting is finally over. A little later than anticipated, we roll out the First Round Draw for the eighth Fantasy Football Scout Cup, sponsored by Paddy Power – for those who submitted their teams for the Gameweek 11 qualifying round, read on to discover whether you made the cut as we assess some of the standout head-to-heads set to take place over Gameweek 12 next weekend.

First up, if you managed a score of 55 points or more (after points spent on transfers), a place in the knockout stages awaits. All previous winners of the cup have received an automatic bye into the First Round – reigning champion Wild Rover find himself the underdog as he kicks off his defence against frankm8, with an overall rank of around 885,0000 compared to his opponents 37,000.

The full first round draw can be viewed on this page.

Looking at some of the previous winners, our very own Jonty squares up to site regular Back to Back Ballacks, while long-time site visitor Goonerdave finds himself up against The Menaces Return.

Some other “old school” names such as SuperDunny, Gargamel and Shipsontrev jump out on first glance – they are set to take on RafaMC, bekorchi and flipaduck respectively.

One of the site’s new moderating team, Greendwindmill, braces himself for a clash against Tokyo Red, while our Suspension Tightrope expert Anorak will face SAAB for a spot in the second round. Evs is up against mark collier – this looks a tough one, with both inside the top 10,000 – while MissPolly has the honour on taking on Granville, no less.

Four of the highest ranked managers in the draw go head-to-head, as Accounting on Chris (8,825) takes on Unbelievabletekkers (16.374) and champskebab (6,083) gears up for a clash with nowayjose, who sits in 275th spot in the overall rankings.

Beric gets the chance to continue his superb season. Currently sitting inside the top 1,000, he takes on g-doo, who is very much the outsider here, with a ranking of 145,000. Forca Inter will fancy his chances of progressing. In the First Round, our site regular has been drawn against MB10 – the former has an overall ranking around 71,000 against his opponents’ 233,000.

Giggs Boson, another familiar name around these parts, takes on CanTheyScore – both look evenly-matches so far, with respective ranks of 30,167 and 24,544, while Germanphil (ranked 173,368) has a real uphill task ahead – he’s up against TitusShambles, the highest-ranked manager in the First Round draw, with an overall rank of 102.

With our new Cup system now in place (more good work by Ed), we can monitor how these ties are shaping up as the Gameweek progresses and later in the tournament we’ll even be considering live draws – Sir Trevor Brooking not supplied.

As always, good luck to everyone involved.

Couldn't believe the difference in stats. HUUUUUUUUUGE. A no-brainer of a transfer. It appeared Sturridge could match Suarez but the underlying stats suggest otherwise. And average position stats appear to show Rodgers giving Suarez the pole position. Closer to goal, closer to goals.

Couldn't believe the article was titled as 'Coutinho..'

It says so much more about Sturridge. I was shocked by the stats. And Sturridge is carrying an injury... so could easily end up like Michu - i.e. his performances are hampered by his injury and he eventually cracks and has a few weeks out.

Can you tell I got rid of Sturridge this week?!

There might be quiet a few upsets in the cup this week, the fixtures don't suit the template teams:

Migs and Boruc have tough away games, Coleman/Dawson/Southampton/Chelsea are away and Suarez/Aguero/Ozil/Ramsey have tough fixtures......

The non-template teams could score well his week

It's more complex than that even..Nine of the ten highest owned players are in the Arsenal/Southampton game and the Liverpool/Everton game...Not sure what that means for the AVG GW score but it must have some implications of some sort.

Evening everyone! I was just wondering about any tips anybody could offer me on using the january WC.
Should you use it as soon as it's available?
Is it advisable to use your WC at the start of the busy christmas period to bring in players from midtable teams who are nailed on (Nolan, Sess, Brady, Remy, Lukaku, Snodgrass), so that rotation doesnt affect your team as much, and then use your january WC to give you the team you want until the end of the year?
Or is that just over thinking on my part?
    Thanks for any help 🙂

Really depends on your team and fixtures for your players, you also have to consider impact of weather on games, dont want to use it to only have a few games on that week, not that it is easy to play for that.

True and good point but some of there fixtures in the next few gameweeks are appealing I watched Rat play vs Norwich and he could have got a lot of attacking points but didn't he was also on corners too at 4.5 he is worth a go.

Last years 3 biggest hitting midfielders were bale, mata and Walcott.
Easy to see why they are not replicating their form in EPL this year.
Not sure there are players of that calibre playing regularly this year, other than perhaps ozil and he is overpriced and weighted to assists in the year that assists have been devalued by the bonus system.. Hazard and silva are carrying on like last year (inconsistent and injured respectively)
      Walcott is the last hope.

I'm in Sydney, the 3pm games are on at 2am here, making them virtually impossible to watch live.

The 12:45pm kickoff is not so bad at 11:45pm Sat. Night...

Champions League is ok midweek, watch it early 6:45am then head to work.

The only positive is the price rises, happens every day at 1 pm here, so you can always get it spot on..

Given the amount of shots Spurs have had per game I would think this week could tell us a lot. Many keepers have been stepping their performances against Tottenham, if he does the same it could buy him another 10 games.
