The waiting is finally over. A little later than anticipated, we roll out the First Round Draw for the eighth Fantasy Football Scout Cup, sponsored by Paddy Power – for those who submitted their teams for the Gameweek 11 qualifying round, read on to discover whether you made the cut as we assess some of the standout head-to-heads set to take place over Gameweek 12 next weekend.

First up, if you managed a score of 55 points or more (after points spent on transfers), a place in the knockout stages awaits. All previous winners of the cup have received an automatic bye into the First Round – reigning champion Wild Rover find himself the underdog as he kicks off his defence against frankm8, with an overall rank of around 885,0000 compared to his opponents 37,000.

The full first round draw can be viewed on this page.

Looking at some of the previous winners, our very own Jonty squares up to site regular Back to Back Ballacks, while long-time site visitor Goonerdave finds himself up against The Menaces Return.

Some other “old school” names such as SuperDunny, Gargamel and Shipsontrev jump out on first glance – they are set to take on RafaMC, bekorchi and flipaduck respectively.

One of the site’s new moderating team, Greendwindmill, braces himself for a clash against Tokyo Red, while our Suspension Tightrope expert Anorak will face SAAB for a spot in the second round. Evs is up against mark collier – this looks a tough one, with both inside the top 10,000 – while MissPolly has the honour on taking on Granville, no less.

Four of the highest ranked managers in the draw go head-to-head, as Accounting on Chris (8,825) takes on Unbelievabletekkers (16.374) and champskebab (6,083) gears up for a clash with nowayjose, who sits in 275th spot in the overall rankings.

Beric gets the chance to continue his superb season. Currently sitting inside the top 1,000, he takes on g-doo, who is very much the outsider here, with a ranking of 145,000. Forca Inter will fancy his chances of progressing. In the First Round, our site regular has been drawn against MB10 – the former has an overall ranking around 71,000 against his opponents’ 233,000.

Giggs Boson, another familiar name around these parts, takes on CanTheyScore – both look evenly-matches so far, with respective ranks of 30,167 and 24,544, while Germanphil (ranked 173,368) has a real uphill task ahead – he’s up against TitusShambles, the highest-ranked manager in the First Round draw, with an overall rank of 102.

With our new Cup system now in place (more good work by Ed), we can monitor how these ties are shaping up as the Gameweek progresses and later in the tournament we’ll even be considering live draws – Sir Trevor Brooking not supplied.

As always, good luck to everyone involved.

I'm looki g at bringing him in and while I'm no Newcastle fan, I think he's close to nailed on. The reason I say this is because he's versatility allows him to play at RB/LB if he's not playing in the centre. Pardew is also a big fan of him as well.

    I had 2 ft's for gw12
    (1) Lukaku out, Remy in (this has been done)
    (2) Siggy out, Sess/Cabaye/De Guzman in (will not be done until last minute but Sess seems to be the way to go)

    Mignolet
    Baines, Terry, Clyne
    Ozil, Ramsey, Sess, Lallana
    Remy (c), Suarez, Aguero

    Boruc, Barkley, Burner, Dawson

My question is who should I start in defence out of Clyne, Dawson or Burner. I've gone for Clyne as he has the attacking element & Dawson & Burner don't. However with Clyne's fixtures turning sour & the fact he's coming up against Arsenal I'm considering a -4 hit to bring in another defender (Evra, Evans, G. Johnson, Jagielka, Curtis Davies, Sktrel, Yanga-Mbiwa, Santon, Shawcross, McAuley).

I know the common theory is not to take a hit for a defender but due to the difficult fixtures for defenders in gw12 it could warranted.

    Opinions = yes or no

It is a bit like my own dilemma -

A liitle too much southampton exposure and a desire to get in Remy

I think I am leaning in the direction to take a -4 hit for a defender myself

    mignolet
    baines, williams, yanga, chester
    hazard, sessegnon, lallana
    suarez, rooney, lukaku

    morrison, fonte, jedinak

I have 4.5M in the bank to fund lallana+jedinak --> walcott+6.2 or cazorla+5.7 next week.

I think this will serve me well for the festive period, provided chester is fit. I may explore fonte --> west brom defender anyhow.

I'l give you a few thoughts

I would bring in Walcott like you said and then maybe bring in Brady for Jedinak - I can't imagine any player at 6.2 being better value then Brady.

then use the extra cash you save from getting Brady to update one of your defenders...not Fonte though

It's the fixtures that put me off brady... I had him at the beginning of the season though, so would love to get him back if he can perform as well as he did then. I was contemplating cabaye/arnautovic.

Sorry, my bad. A guy I'm thinking about as a budget option is Seb Larsson @ 5.6. Larsson historically scores about ~115 FF points a season, on FK and corners and SUN look to be on the up under Poyet. I have Cabaye so this makes a good H/A rotation for me, but Larsson is a decent budget option imo.

    Currently on 1FT with a defence of;

    Lovren - Fonte - Walker - Coleman - Chester

    Seeing as they all have horrendous fixtures (barring Chester who'll most likely miss the match through injury), is it madness to consider doing Sturridge > Remy as my move this week? Would leave me with;

    Harper [Migs]
Lovren - Walker - Coleman [Fonte - Chester]
Hazard - Ozil - Arnatovic - Januzaj [Whitts]
    Suarez - Aguero - Remy

I know the defence is a shambles but Newc at home to Norwich does seem a bit tasty

It's just the doubling up of Sturridge and Suarez that could burn the fingers. Defensively I'm a shambles right now though so one of those does have to go first. I'm being lured by Remy's previous few weeks and the thought that Suarez is enough Pool attacking coverage

Anyone with a bit of Villa knowledge around? Wondering how nailed on Baker is? He could be a diamond straight swap for Chester if he's getting the games.

Was he injured at the beginning of the season or just unfavoured?

Luna and Baker did play together against Spurs and half of Everton though, wouldn't that suggest that he wouldn't naturally take his place in the team?

Well Baker is a CB and they are playing 3-5-2, when luna and the wingers are back i expect they will go 4-3-3 again and then its Vlaar and one of Baker/Clark as Okore is injured.

He still has a chance of nailing the CB spot its just a tad risky. He has a history of playing well for a run of games then suddenly playing awful and getting dropped.

Although Southampton are away I just think there is a tiny chance of an upset vs Arsenal whos foward has gone of form slightly.

Any thoughts about the following move for -4pts.

    Fonte & Walker > Coloccini & Terry/Ivanovic

Nothing left over in the bank but gives me some nice coverage over the next 3/4 gameweeks at least

I did take a look at those pair but I don't think Villa Newcastle & Man City are strong enough fixtures to warrant bringing one of them in.

You're right about trading up for fixtures, but Coloccini got maximum baps in the two clean sheets he played in, and Terry got a couple of 2s and 3s, so *IF* they both manage a clean sheet this week you'd guess that the baps would pay back the -4pts spent.

        Very punty though I know

Funnily enough although Collocini is their best CB im not certain he will come straight back into the team, his form has been poor and they have started picking up a few cleanies recently without him. Long term he should come into the team of course but id be worried initially.

I think he has to come straight back in as they're light at the back against Norwich, and I can't see Debuchy not being put straight back into the first XI and Williamson surely won't keep him out of the team...?

            Interesting point though

I've held on so far but I am considering the upside vs the downside. He would give me a captain choice I'd be much happier with than those listed above. Also if Rooney/RVP/Remy captainers get a big haul then I'll be left behind reading a captain hindsight post kicking myself.
