Having analysed the options in Defence in yesterday’s first instalment, we turn our attentions to the midfield area. A trio of Emirates showdowns brings Arsenal’s two main protagonists into focus, while Chelsea and West Brom’s upcoming fixtures also play a prominent role in recommendations for the next four-to-six Gameweeks:

Three home games in four see Aaron Ramsey and Mesut Ozil occupy the top two spots in this week’s Midfield standings. While the latter has somewhat struggled for form on the road, with one assist in five appearances, it’s been a different matter altogether at the Emirates – Ozil has produced 35 points in three fixtures in front of his own fans. Ramsey has racked up 30 points over the same trio of matches and with Southampton, Hull and Everton paying visit, in addition to a trip to Cardiff, the duo look poised for further Fantasy points. The potential return of Theo Walcott would certainly influence matters but for now, Ramsey and Ozil hold steady until the winger’s comeback is cemented.

Eden Hazard replaces Oscar once again as our chosen Chelsea midfielder. The Belgian is starting to pick up in consistency, with four goals and a pair of assists in his last five appearances compared to a single assist in the first six – he has West Ham, Sunderland, Stoke and Palace in the upcoming five to help continue his climb up the standings. As always with the Blues, uncertainty over the lone forward role elevates their midfielders in our Fantasy thinking.

With a goal and assist in the last two, Stephane Sessegnon is starting to hint at a consistency for West Brom. The 6.6 priced Baggies summer signing has home games against Villa, Norwich and Hull in the next six and also faces a trip to Cardiff –coming in at 5.2, Morgan Amalfitano offers the budget route into Steve Clarke’s midfield but needs to improve upon a record of one assist in five.

Back in the Liverpool starting line-up after recovering from a shoulder injury, Philippe Coutinho was highly unlucky not to pick up the points in the previous Gameweek at home to Fulham. A role on the left of a 4-4-2 lends the Brazilian plenty license to drift centrally and wreak havoc – at 8.5, with a 5% ownership, he has a trip to Hull and home games with Norwich, West Ham and Cardiff to get his Fantasy season up and running.

With David Silva still sidelined due to a calf complaint Yaya Toure is our premium City option in the centre of the park. The Ivorian has already notched five times this term and has back-to-back home games with Spurs and Swansea up next before trips to West Brom and Southampton; at 8.1 to Toure’s 9.6, Samir Nasri, with attacking returns in six of his 11 appearances, is easier on the budget and also has real differential appeal, with just 3% ownership.

While Hatem Ben Arfa has to be content with warming the Newcastle bench, his team-mate and compatriot Yohan Cabaye has been picking up the points. The Frenchman has scored or assisted in four of the last seven for Alan Pardew’s side and welcomes Norwich and West Brom to Tyneside in the next two, with a trip to Swansea also on his short-term agenda – the downside is that he sits on four yellows, just a single caution away from a one-match ban.

Finally picking up the points his underlying statistics have hinted at, Robert Snodgrass has a varied schedule over the next six. Home games against Palace and Swansea look potentially profitable, as does a trip to Sunderland – down to just 5.9 in FPL, he remains firmly under the radar, with an ownership less than 5%.

As many as three Stoke midfielders found the net in the previous Gameweek and while Marko Arnautovic was not amongst them, the summer signing still keeps his spot in this week’s refresh. The Austrian continues to offer plenty of goal threat and with four home games and a trip to Hull in the next six, is relatively kind on the budget at just 5.5.

West Ham’s Ravel Morrison also remains in our thoughts despite his appearance on the Suspension Tightrope – like Cabaye, he’s a yellow card away from a one-match ban. A goal away to Norwich last time around took the 4.8 priced Morrison’s tally to three for the season – he now has home games against Fulham and Sunderland and a trip to Palace in the next five.

Still troubled by a quick return from hernia surgery, Robbie Brady’s owners have been left frustrated as Steve Bruce tries to nurse him back to full fitness. With a fortnight’s international break helping his recuperation, Hull’s top scorer is expected to be fit in time for this weekend’s home clash against Palace – Brady also squares up to Swansea and Stoke in the next five as he looks to rediscover the form which harvested three sets of double figures in the opening six appearances prior to injury.

Southampton’s Adam Lallana has a tough schedule on the horizon. The Saints skipper has been in sensational form – a goal or assist in five of the last seven has helped him up to third in the midfield rankings but with Arsenal, Chelsea, City and Spurs in the next six, he may struggle to maintain his consistency.

Looking at a Newcastle defender and I haven't been paying attention to them. Who in their defense is the most certain starter? Is any of ther cheap defenders assured of starts for the next 2-3 weeks?

Well Coloccini is fit again but Pardew could stick with Yanga/ Williamson parthership since they're performing well. Then again Debuchy is out, so they'll have to make some changes to that back four.

I think i'll go with Santon here. Looks like the most nailed on atm.

    Morning Fellas

Won't be around much over the next few days so need to get my team sorted now. Hows it looking for this GW?

    Mignolet
    McAuley / Terry / Rosenior / Chico
    Amalfitano / Hazard / Cabaye
    Remy (c) / Rooney / Suárez (vc)

    Lewis / Barkley / Paulinho / Clyne

Sticking with boom or bust captain choice of Remy, but unsure whether to play Barkley or Chico, Fulham have been shocking of late but Jol has got to get the team attacking to at lest make a good show of it, even if they end up getting beat. What do you think?

£4.6 in the bank, plan is Paulinho > Wally (when fit and getting 90 mins) leaving about 2.4 and then possibly Remy > Benteke (when NEW fixtures change) which willl leave about 1.0 in the bank

He's not had much gametime recently and doesn't have the internationals to tire him out so maybe a bit more than 40% - although Moyes may change the formation to suit his midfield options now Carrick is out and Cardiff will put five in the middle.

Can't say I was surprised by England's performance last night although I'm not sure either team deserved to win. Germany were well organised and played a well organised defensive formation, but still looked dangerous going forward on the counter and could have done more with their breaks. England dominated the game for long peroids but what was very clear last night was England's inability to create clear-cut chances. Are there any English playmakers at the moment capable of performing well at international level?

Agreed. We were very lucky to do so in the Euros and we'd have to be a lot better to do it at the World Cup.

But I do have some optimism for the future if we can nurture that young talent properly. As much as I dislike Andros Townsend right now, he obviously has a lot of potential if he can be persuaded to stop shooting every time he sees the ball.

    Harper (Boruc)
    Terry, Williams, G.Johnson (Clyne, B.Turner)
    Hazard, Ramsey, Walcott, Brady (Townsend)
    Suaréz, Aguero, Rooney

i have two issues with my team at the moment. one is Harper. with the return of Mcgregor i will have to rely only in Boruc that has a real bad set of fixtures coming, but i don't really know how to fix it... :S

the other is Townsend. looks like a one trick pony at the club but in England continues to impress, so says the press. do you guys recommend swapping him? and for who? only got 0,1 itb.

The problem with England is Cleverly, Barkley and Henderson were playing.

Barkley should be playing under 21, he's played about 10 prem games and yet he is playing for England.

Henderson and Cleverly are not good enough.

Is Lampard injured? he should be starting.

Our team looks much better with a full squad, and we were missing quite a few players. These 2 defeats could prove to be damaging.

I didn't think England were THAT bad to be honest.

Just missing the x factor in the final third of the pitch as Townsend was too predictable, Rooney and Sturridge didn't seem at it, and Lallana was only playing his second game (but I thought he did ok).

I think the problem is that the media build these young players up and theyre really not that good. As you say most should be playing for the u21s but theres not many better options in the over 21s. Players like Barkley and Townsend shouldnt be near an England 1st team but it was a friendly so why not experiment and give them experience.

Got to bear in mind they are friendlies and it was a also a German B team.

If they are good enough then they should 100% be near the England team - look at Germany's team last night, full of 20-23ish year olds - Kruse, Kroos, Goetze, the Benders...

I dont think Townsend and Barkley are anywhere near Krood and Gotze level. GErmany have quality in their youth. These guys for England have potential but im just thinking theres not many English mids that are older and good enough.

I know they are not as good as Goetze and Kroos, but relatively speaking they ARE the English versions - we can't afford to put them in the under 21s, because if we do who replaces them in the senior squad - the reality is the quality of player required is just not there and so players are unjustly fast tracked.

We don't have the depth of a Germany or a Spain, they can afford to be patient with their young players and bring them in slowly, England can't and so everytime they are rushed in and are quickly consumed by the culture of failure.

I agree with everything you say.

I think the media should give these players time and not lump players with the pressure of being 'England's saviour' or 'The next Rooney'.

It's a vicious circle, and to break free of it the media also have to play their part.........not build England up as potential winners everytime, but instead just wish them luck, see if they can do their best and perform admirably, and then build on it over the next campaign when sights might be justifiably raised slightly higher as the team develops.

IMO fans booing the team after defeats to Chile and Germany are a disgrace.

Watching the game there were lots of very fast players who didn't know what to do with the ball. Townsend is a case in point. Great build up player, steaming ahead and then wasteful shots or losing possession. Same with Barkley later in the game. I liked what I saw of Lallana last night - could be a handy squad player for the world cup. I'd love to see Townsend develop though...if he can improve his decision making and shoot better then he could be fantastic for England and Spurs too.

And agree missing that magic ingredient in the final third. Sturridge is woefully off form. Rooney needs an English RVP to emerge very quickly to play alongside.

Hmm, couple of decisions to ponder. I want Sess this week, but getting him in means I would need two transfers to get Walcott later on. Which of these options sound good?

    A. Januzaj > Sess
    B. Arnautovic > Sess
    C Arnautovic > Walcott
    D Hold transfer

Now, C looks obvious, but as I'm unsure on Januzaj's gametime, could be a risk to bring in Walcott without knowing if he's straight back into the first 11. I'm leaning towards A to be honest, want nailed on starters with Xmas around the corner. But I'm not convinced, so would be happy to hear a couple of opinions.

      I'd go B

Walcott has to get his match fitness back, which could take a while

Yeah. The advantage of B is that it means I would still have the money in the bank for Sess>Walcott if that happens. But I think I prefer the security of Arnie's starts over Januzaj, even if he hasn't produced as yet. I want to give him another couple of weeks.

Do not understand why everyone is jumping on Walcott. I can't even see him starting for a couple games yet.

Its the hunt for a differential isn't it. Like I say in the post above, Im considering it, but its exactly what you say that is putting me off.

Which transfer looks the best for this week?

    A) Lallana > Sess
    B) Walker > GJ
    C) Walker > Evans and Barkley > Sess in GW13
    D) Walker > Terry

Answers on a postcard, or a reply on here would be fine. Cheers
