Festive rotation and Mark and Granville’s rivalry were among the key discussions taking place amongst the community this week. Elsewhere, veteran poster, Christina, upped his game to deliver a pair of popular hot topics; we take a look back on these, whilst rounding off with our usual focus on the tournaments active in the community.

The Hottest Topics

Just how much rotation will there be during the hectic festive fixture list? Greenwindmill has been offering some crumbs of comfort with his detailed analysis of how the team sheets panned out over winter last season. For a number of sides, in particular Everton and Southampton, he found that rotation was less severe than we expected. The Serjeant has also been looking at festive rotation and in particular to investigate which teams have the most cluttered Christmas.

For those looking to scrape the very darkest depths of the Premier League barrel Christina has been on hand to look at the slender pickings among the worst performing clubs. Jonathan Walters and Dimitar Berbatov are among those ultra-differentials being offered up.

Not sure what they’ve been putting in the water at Christina’s place, but the community verteran has been flying this week, notching up a second hot topic nomination, this time looking ahead to the January Wildcard and the best time to throw it down.

The tussle for supremacy among ScoutCast rivals Mark and Granville has captured the imagination of Just A Hat this week, who wonders if Granville will maintain his mini-league lead. Lateriser12 feels that Granville is set thrash Mark this season, while Tinkerman envisages a miraculous comeback for Mark.

Among those to answer our hot topic about whether Christmas is the season for giving our bench fodder an overhaul, or taking a risk that they won’t be needed was Fratboy, who is seizing the moment to ditch Cardiff’s Jordan Mutch.

Captaining a player in an early Saturday kick off is often seen as the nemesis of any superstitious Fantasy Football manager. Luckily Nice To Finally Michu was on hand to run roughshod over this old wives tale. His analysis of captain options in the early games this season so far show that whether a player starts at 12:45pm or 3pm makes no difference to their chances of racking up a respectable points haul. I also dropped my monkey’s foot in surprise.

The Community Leagues

Thomass67 tells us he is launching a doubles ‘Big Bash League’ shortly. For more information and to register ahead of the November 29 deadline click here.

TorresMagic’s Last Man Standing lost another 32 managers this week leaving 586 left. Myo Min Thant leads seeding for the FPL Open and Beric leads for the Elite 64 competition. More details can be found here.

Meanwhile the FFS UEFA FA Cup Tournament is underway this weekend. A review of last week’s stage and the latest on this week’s can be seen here.

Remy wasn't that bad, I went with Ozil over Suarez and Aguero.

Last couple of weeks only my captain scored, this week everyone else did. Mustn't grumble, came out with 79 in the end.

Yup.. considerin gettin him in alongside Ravel.. would only need him to play GW 15, 18, 21 where he has cpl, SOT, WHM but like i said he aint very predictable.. could be the perfect 5th mid to get off the bench if rotation hits elsewhere though

I had him early season and did alright off him. Upgraded him at some stage when I was moving the capital around. That's the thing about players who mainly threaten through set-pieces, completely unpredictable.

Would not mind him coming off the bench for all of those apart from Arsenal when the inevitable rotation kicks in elsewhere. Though amalfitano could be a good option too(gonna watch him closely tonight)

Fair point. Ravel is a nice price but he plays for one of the worst attacking teams in the league. Compared to others at his price I like him, even up until the Cabaye/Sessegnon price range. But I think both of those and Coutinho will outscore him.

I have 2 FT's this week and can do a 3 trade -4, but putting things off for 3 weeks are crazy.

Spending points to improve your team. again it's hardly some new tactic and no different to trading every week with regular points hits. I'm not against points hits sometimes but why commit to doing them every second week

Making 3 transfers provides more flexibility with your budget compared to only 2.

For instance he might hesitate to take a hit for a defender if he only makes 2 however if he makes 3 transfers with only 1 of them being a defender it seems more worth it.

It is a bit rigid if you keep to it religiously but I think Mark is using it as a basic plan that can be altered slightly when it suits.

The basic plan gives you the flexibility to change things around with 3 players providing more options without budget getting in the way too much. Then if he can help it, he will try and save a transfer so long as there are no injuries or any other urgent issues. Of course when he has 2FT's he will be prepared to make 3 changes if necessary but again circumstances might mean that he only needs to take one or two. For the short term however, he will probably need to make 3 as his team is dire.

We can't look at these choices in a vacuum.

Yes, that could work for some but, there are 9 other players who affect each particular player's side...

As it stands, I could pull that off w/ my 2FTs but, it would mean down grading my defense or foregoing a 5th playing mid over Xmas...

I don't think I can afford Rooney atm.

      Pointless question atm.
If Lukaku scores hat trick this week and at least one in two after that, everyone says Lukaku.
If he blanks against stoke and Rooney scores again, everyone thinks Rooney.

I don't like how "casuals" are always called like stupid knee jerkers around here, even when scouts make their watchlist nowadays pretty much entirely based on last game (at least it feels like that to me).

For example if Hazard didn't get that one "extra" assist + bonus, Oscar would be flavour of the week for Chelsea cover again.

This isn't aimed at you in anyway, don't know why I needed to let this out 🙂

        It's a great question!

The gentleman is looking forward to the Jan WC & assessing where he'd like to set himself up moving forward.

        This isn't a knee jerk?

This is a well planned approach, to a key time of year...

Without getting caught up on names, I think the 3rd striker has to be someone a bit cheaper. 2 of Aguero/Suarez/Rooney plus Giroud, Benteke, Studge (although he's not that much cheaper), Lukaku, Remy or whichever other striker hits form.

That way you can afford more midfield big hitters

    Fun Fact for the DZ:

Tottenham's entire team netted a total of 5 fantasy points today.

    Of their 14 total players:
-8 players netted a positive gain for a total of 12pts
-5 players had a negative score totaling -7pts

To put this in perspective, Tottenham was outscored by the keeper, Pantilimon today.

Amalfitano.. was the bees knees on here up until 4 weeks ago.. then he's gotten
3 1 3 1 and played 44 minutes in one game and 69 minutes in another. Is he a rotation risk or was it an injury? Any set pieces in his locker? Was he playing in defense for all of those games? looking for a 5.2 and below mid to get alongside morrison.. leaning towards whitts/amalfitano at the moment as they cover his bad fixtures pretty well(though if barkley falls i may plump for him)

Will get rested against Plzen, Leicester and maybe Bayern. That means he's basically got:

        SWA – 1/12
        wba – 4/12
        sot – 7/12
        (BAY – 10/12?)
        ARS – 14/12
        ful – 21/12
        LIV – 26/12
        CPL – 28/12

The only one that worries me there is Palace, depending on whether he plays against Bayern.

I'm looking to bring in a Villa defender this week - the safe choice seems to be Vlaar, but I remember Lowton having a very decent attacking threat last season, and now Luna is back and I think he does too. Are both full backs nailed on though?

In short, which is the best option from these 3?

    a) Vlaar (4.5m)
    b) Lowton (4.5m)
    c) Luna (4.4m)

Downgrading to rotate for 1 spot with Clyne and Ward. Other defenders are Terry and Evra so need to lighten up in defence.

        Those 3 rotation gives:

SUN, AVL, CAR, new, NEW, CPL, SWA, NOR up to the Jan WC

Really? Villa have the most CS, and they rotate better. Also, Hul's fixtures are bad.

I'm considering Murner/Olsson though, but AVL look far more secure in defence imo.
