Midfield Form Analysis – Gameweek 8-11

As we’re all very much aware, midfielders have been a real let-down this season for Fantasy managers thus far. Aside from Aaron Ramsey’s sensational displays for Arsenal, there have very few options for us to look upon as reliable assets – Adam Lallana’s recent rise to prominence has already persuaded over 78,000 Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers to snap up the Southampton skipper, despite games against Arsenal, Chelsea, City and Spurs in the next six Gameweeks:

With this in mind, in this latest article for members, we‘ve turned to the Custom Stats Tables feature in the members area and assessed the midfielders with the most impressive data over the last four Gameweeks. For the purposes of this table, and in order to include some of the standout players across key categories, we set the bar to ensure each of our 16 candidates registered a minimum of 5 shots, 5 chances created, 2 shots on target and 1 shot inside the box between Gameweeks 8-11.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

What's the likelyhood of Remy not playing this weekend in light of everything? Chances are Pardew might give him time off considering it's only Norwich at home? No offense Canaries.

not sure about doubling up on everton defence and southampton, i'd get rid of baines and lovren to free up funds for upgrading lukaku to either benteke or aguero and maybe improve your midfield - possibly hazard if you can afford him.

    Anyhow. It's between

    a) Rooney + 1 FT or

The 1 FT is since after 3 weeks I'll be transferring Remy out to Rooney.

    DOING THE JANUARY "WILDTHING"

A couple of posters have asked when is the best time to use January Wild card. I'm looking at you David999…

In short - there is no correct time. Injuries, possible swing in fixtures, an attempt to increase team value and of course new signings in the actual January transfer window(31 December - 31 January)
    are things to consider.

    1. Increase in Team value

Activate the WC as soon as possible is my suggestion on 1 Jan 2014 as soon as GW 20 kicks off. That way you have 11 days until gw 21 to get onto possible bandwagons and gain some team value. In the process you might also be able to replace injured players and get rid of some deadwood. The downside of course is you might miss out on January signings.

Activating the WC in GW 22 is also an option. This will give you 10 days to tinker and will at least bring you closer to the close of the actual transfer window.

WARNING - Don’t expect to much increase in teamvalue though. Everyone will still have a hangover from New year celebrations. Transfer activity will probably be minimal.

    2. Swing in fixtures(GW 21- 24)

    THE GOOD:

    West ham - car/NEW/chel/SWANS

They might have Carroll back from Injury by then and that will boost Nolan's fantasy shares. Nolan just loves playing vs his old club Newcastle and this year might not be any different. Liverpool, Man U and Arsenal fixtures will be behind them.

    THE BAD:

    Aston villa - ARS/livp/WBA/eve

They come off a December fixture list that included Fulham, Sunderland,Crystal palace and Swansea. It all turns bad in GW 21. Might be time to sell Benteke?

    3. The actual transfer window

Who knows what the January transfer window will hold. Will Arsenal sign that illusive striker? Will Man United sign that creative midfielder ? Will Baines move to United? Is Suarez settled?

Notable January successful signings - Papiss Cisse, Jelavic and even Bent moving to Villa and scoring 9 in 16 to guide them to safety.

    Let's hear everyone's thoughts….

Compared with the other WC, there isn't really much of a general strategy to it and more an individual assessment. I remember wasting mine before cos I didn't really have many transfers to make. Feeling I'll really need it this year though haha

Personally I'd hold out on it until the end unless you're team needs a major revamp.

I think having a wildcard is an excuse to make some short term fixture-based short term punts around gws17-20.

Then in GW20, based on how these punts performed, you can choose to fix with your wildcard

...or if it ain't broke don't fix it and keep it til the end of the window.

I was thinking Brady too but am worried I'll buy him and he wont start.

It's only for a week or two as I plan to bring in Theo once I've freed up 0.2 (or earned it in price rises on whoever I pick!)

What about Snoddy? With Debuchy suspended they are likely to have to move Santon to RB. Dummett is slow and Mbiwa-Yanga is no LB so either would be a good match-up for him

Managers, help needed, I have seen red arrows for 4 game week straight!

In desperate need of a change, maybe a Suarez but starting with downgrading a bloated defence. I went the premium defenders route when it was sexy, and it was a complete fail.

    Current Team:

    Jussi
    Vidic Ivan Walker Lovren Clyne
Ozil Ramsey Yaya Morrison Brady Redmond
    Lukaku Sturridge Giroud

    Any suggestions are welcome!

WOW your strikeforce is dire. Id say players needing to go are one of the SOT defenders(considering the fixtures, Yaya(no hurry but a good place to make some cash to upgrade the forwards. Strikers all ok, but a needto get some big hitters in there.

      How many FTs?

        Hi Kostja,

Only 1 free transfer, yes I missed the boat on the Suarez, Aguero bandwagon, now playing catch up.

Need to make at least 3 downgrades to get some more inform players up front.

What is the best move this gameweek you reckon?

I was thinking Vidic/Ivan/Walker considering cleansheets are no guarantee these days and both are over priced?

Its really tough to see where to start, but id say there is no need to rush with the big hitters unless you want a United forward this week. Id downgrade Walker in the backline unless Vidic is injured.

Look at a WBA, LIV, Arsenal defender, Maybe Remy in the short term?

Yaya to Morrison/Januzaj is a good place for cash too.

You need to figure out first if you wanna take a hit this week?

I guess it comes down to taking a hit this week or next week.

I like the idea of Remy in the short term.

Ultimately would like to end up with both Aguero and Suarez.

Also I have 3 Arsenal v 2 Southampton this week, add to that a -4 hit and could be a dire week.

If I was you id go Giroud to Remy this week and than just see what happens next week. Maybe Get McAuley or Merte in this week for Walker too, as they look decent odds for a CS

With my team-value, going with 3 big strikers (i.e. Rooney alongside the other two) is really tough and would crumble the team elsewhere. Evans is a possibility, but I think I'd rather have someone nailed like GJ/JT/Mertesacker. Fixtures are good and I rate their defenses better than United at the moment.

I haven't given too much thought into rotation, other than Brady and Morrison looking good for the next few. GJ JT and Mert, in general, have decent fixtures up until Jan WC, filling in with Vlaar and Rosenior.

      Morning Dogba, decent team that.

Only changes I'd probably make would be Harper to a 4.0 and upgrade the extra bit of cash elsewhere if you can - preferably in midfield. Not sure if I'd want Brady - maybe Snoddy if you can get him.

Ideally, Aguero, Suarez, Rooney is the ideal strikeforce but I see that your team value is just as woeful as mine so that's kinda difficult isn't it...

Overall, though, it's a really nicely balanced side.

Just looked at your defence again, with that cash made from Harper -> 4.0, I'd probably change Rosenior -> one of Santon/Evans/Pieters/Rat/McCauley.

Yeah, I like going for balance, this way I can maneuver in midfield if someone shoots to form and I have some wiggle room up front (not too much though with Remy, bit of a punt but fixtures and form are good).

        Hey, thanks for the feedback.

Harper is 4.0, he's the backup at Hull so only playing for a few more weeks but better than a non-playing one.

Yeah, Brady is a bit of an enigma. Snoddy's stats are on the up, fixtures are decent. As it stands I'm 0.1M short, but if I do JT & Vlaar -> McAuley and Evans for instance I'd free up some cash. I'll check it out 🙂

Hmmmm, might be getting a next gen console. Not sure which one to pick though. Although the Xbox is 100 quid dearer I think I might end up getting it purely because one of my friends who I usually play online with already has it.

However, it'll probably be whichever console has the best bundle for me.

I like the new PS4 controllers and I'm a livid fan of Gran Turismo which is only for Playstation, If I get one, it'll be the Sony. I don't think there's huge differences between the two though, hardware is pretty much the same and I guess most games are released for both.

Coleman, Evra, Walker, B Turner, Wilson
    Ozil, Lallana, Morrison, Barkley, Townsend,
    Giroud, Suarez, Rooney..

1.4m in the bank.. 2 FT..

    Two options I'm considering..
    A.Townsend- Sessegnon this week.
Next week Ozil - Walcott and upgrade Wilson.

    B. Plan to get Aguero in.
Ozil- Walcott and Walker- downgrade. (Keep Wilson as he is 5th def)
Then bring in Aguero for Giroud the week after. This would mean keeping Townsend. ( failed to perform)

    What would you do?

Thanks. Not sure, I'll wait and see. If he's not, I'm playing Ravel.

I've already got Ozil and Giroud, looking to change Ozil -> Wally. Or drop Gru for a cheaper third striker and get Wally in for Barfa if I can afford that.

I'm playing Coleman over Clyne as well with Brady over Ravel. I could be very wrong though..

No I'd definitely agree with this. Gotta punt on Brady with Palace at home unless press conference has bad news. Clyne has the absolute worst odds for clean sheet this GW, make of that what you will but I wouldn't play him.

Good thing! I'm playing Boruc though, it would be madness to play them both.

          clyne has ozil and giroud
          coleman has SaS.
i think SOT has higher chances of a CS, right?

Could be, but I think there's a bigger chance of attacking returns from Coleman than Clyne.

Agreed, I don't even see Wenger playing him for more than 30-45 minutes even if he is fit.

yep. he wouldn't be an instant impact when he joins ozil and co. he takes time to find his feet.
      or is it? 80

Looking at Arsenal's fixture I'm thinking of doubling up with Walcott and Ramsey. Well not getting Walcott this week but this alter my transfer decision.

    Original plan was
    This week: Silva -> Sessegnon
    GW 13: Oscar -> Hazard
    GW 14: Ramsey -> Walcott
    GW 15: Save

    Now considering
    This week: Silva -> Hazard
    GW 13: Oscar -> Walcott
GW 14: Save *double up Ramsey Walcott vs Hull*
GW 15: Ramsey -> Sess (or keep Ramsey if he's still scoring)

    Basically only difference is.

GW 12: Sess AVL vs Hazard whu
GW 13: Sess new vs Walcott car
GW 14: Sess MCI vs Ramsey HUL

    Gotta be Haz, Wally, Rambo?
