So it’s 2014 and all that – time for myself and all at Fantasy Football Scout to wish you, our visitors and community members, a very happy New Year!

As always, I’d like to take this chance to personally give a big shout-out of thanks to all those who have worked with me in the past on the site, along with those who continue to help me maintain and grow it. Again, I have to acknowledge the passion and commitment of those who give their time and have helped me get the site to this point. I also have to thank you, the community, for your support over the past 12 months – despite making some pretty radical changes, you’ve stuck by us and lent your support and I continue to be surprised and overwhelmed by the passion and enthusiasm for Fantasy Football and what we do. Many thanks.

I have to admit, the past year has not been easy. The introduction of the HomeCrowd comments system was not smooth – I had many sleepless nights while Ed battled with server loads. Equally, I was well aware that the new tools, along with the introduction of the mod team, would take some getting used to amongst the community itself – in many ways that’s still the case. There have been changes but they were necessary. Quite simply, HomeCrowd, along with Jonty and his mod team, have allowed me to achieve some peace of mind in the last six months and grab back some of the time that was being consumed by simply trying to manage what is, in my opinion, one of the most active and impassioned communities on the net. I like to thank them for their work and you for your patience and support.

I’d also like to acknowledge the work that Paul has put in over the past year. Now Editor of the site, his tireless ability to produce articles above and beyond my own talents has ensured that Fantasy Football Scout is what it is today. I’d also like to thank Ed for his continual support as Technical Director – always there, almost 24 hours a day, he goes on helping me build and improve what we have. I’m genuinely excited about what he can help us create in the year to come.

On that front, the next year will see more changes – we’ve two new features in development right, now. One of which, the Scoreboard, could even be live in the week or so. The other, the matchday comments, is also on its way – this will hopefully be the first step in creating an all-round, improved experience on the site during matches. Fully integrated with HomeCrowd, I’m very excited about showing you a first version and developing it further in 2014.

Elsewhere, Paul will be recruiting a cast of new writers and Jonty, as Managing Editor, will be working with Ed to develop more new features – including HomeCrowd improvements. All in all, I’m hopeful we can take Fantasy Football Scout on even further in the year ahead.

Finally, I’d like to say, wherever you are tonight, I hope you make it home safely, with a clear head ready for tomorrow’s deadline. Here’s to a great 2014!

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Anyone else thinking a spurs striker is the way to go? Sherwood may not be the most tactically astute of mgrs... But he is ridiculously gung ho.. They'll score a lot of goals in H2 i think.

Only problem is, a spurs striker means no lukaku or rooney (aguero & suarez are non-negotiable inclusions imho)

As a previous lukaku owner (i sold him at 8.1) i can say he is a pain in the ass! Even though he's been in bad form he's still managed a goal & 3 assists the last 5 weeks... Not bad for a man out of form! When he gets his shooting boots back on it'll be goodnight vienna for any non-owners

No. They have a lot of convincing to do IMO.

So far under Sherwood they've played 3 games, but they've been somewhat fortunate in who they have played.

They played Southampton who had their 3rd choice keeper, second choice RB and LB and second choice CB as well as no Wanyama and they scored 3 goals from their 3 shots on target.

1-1 against a WBA team who can't keep a CS to save their life.

And another game against a side missing their goalkeeper and their best CB.

        Emmmmm - tough one -

How certain are you of Dzeko starting or at least playing 30 mins ?

Debuchy has been extremely lively in all the recent newcastle games I have watched.

He bombs forward in support - assists are a real possibility with him.

Gotta be Nastasic . Coleman has been let off the leash and he is enjoying his football.

Moyes must regret not taking him to ManU instead of the uni-brow. I'd say coleman would even do a job fin midfield if asked.

Any changes I should make? I have a couple of injury doubts...

    Howard (Marshall)
    Mertesacker Distin Ward (Burner Chester)
Hazard Yaya Walcott (VC) Whittingham (Ravel)
    Suarez (C) Rooney Adebayor

    0 FT

So any transfers or leave it as it is?

If it was last year I would of suggested leaving Adebayor on the bench - Not this year !

I have a similar dilemma (see below) about whether to take a hit to strengthen my bench in the event that someone does not play. I say leave it. Not worth a -4 in my opinion.

He came off the bench last week for a solid one point. But I agree, as a fifth mid, I could do worse. I hate this late hour battling nerves and impaired judgement (funny enough alcohol improves the former but causes the latter).

Guys, isnt there an incentive tnot to save FT this week, as the January WC can only be used between GW21 and GW23 and any transfer saved would be lost by activating the Wildcard?

Depends when you want to play your wildcard. If it is towards the end of January, the saving a transfer is a good idea (that's what I'm doing).

You might want to transfer out players that you loaded up on - 2fts would go some way towards off setting the re-arrangement

This is of course if you intend using your Jan WC to maximize the number of players in your team with favorable fixtures
