We head off to Paddy with another tenner in hand for our first Flutter of the New Year this morning. All three of our bets find their way into this week’s Scout Picks – we look to home games at St Mary’s and Goodison on Saturday before backing the Gunners chief playmaker to bring home the money on Monday evening:

First up, we turn to Southampton’s home game against West Brom, with Adam Lallana on our radar. The Saints skipper has scored three of his four league goals in front of the St Mary’s faithful and, having climbed off the bench to net against Burnley in the FA Cup last week, we’re backing him to produce the goods again. Paddy have offered odds of 7/1 on Lallana to grab a goal and Southampton to produce a clean sheet and we’re throwing £3 their way.

We make our way to Goodison now, where the inconsistent Romelu Lukaku earns our backing. The big Belgian has notched in just one of the last seven Gameweeks but will be confident of returning to goalscoring ways as Norwich roll up to Merseyside devoid of the injured Michael Turner in defence. Paddy are prepared to offer 7/1 on Lukaku scoring two or more and an Everton clean sheet – with the Canaries finding the net just twice in their last  four, Paddy takes another £3 of our cash for this one.

Our final wager goes on Monday evening’s encounter at Villa Park. Arsenal roll up to Paul Lambert’s strugglers reeling from the news that Theo Walcott is out for the season but Arsene Wenger is set to hand Mesut Ozil a starting berth after the German missed the last two with a shoulder injury. Paddy are offering odds of 6/1 on Ozil to score and the Gunners to keep a clean sheet – given that Wenger’s side have conceded a single goal in the last four, we make this our bet of the weekend and empty our wallet of its remaining £4.

If you’re yet to register an account with Paddy, be sure to check out this week’s AWAY DAY TREBLE LINK. Paddy are offering odds of 8/1 for Chelsea, Arsenal and City all to win at Hull, Villa and Newcastle respectively.

Register and Bet £10 And Get £20 Free

If you’re new to Paddy Power, then you can take up any of these odds and get yourself a bonus. You can sign up on this site and get a free £20 when you register an account and bet a tenner.

Finally, of course, we should state that all these offers are only available to those aged 18 and over and are subject to Paddy Power’s terms and conditions. Also, if you’re going to bet, always gamble responsibly.

Hello! My team for this gw looks like this:

    Krul
    Clyne, Coleman Mertesacker
    Barkley, Hazard, Özil, Lallana
    Suarez, Negredo, ROONEY

    subs: Harper, Ravel, Bardsley, Rosenior

I've already taken a hit to sort out injuries so which one would you prefer:

    A) Rooney -> Ade/JRod/Lukaku (-8)?
    B) Bench Rooney and play Ravel
    C) Wildcard

Any advice would be great! thanks in advance

good job you read the whole post.

        1) he is asking what to do with Rooney
        2) Rooney is in CAPS to highlight the issue
        3) There are bullet point options as solutions for you to choose from

I'd say its probably too late to wildcard, unless you've already given it a lot of thought. Do you have any money in the bank? Do you want Rooney long term, or will you switch him for Aguero? (Guess that's irrelevant with a wildcard in the bank). You'll probably only get 1 or 2 points for Ravel, but Lukaku or Adebayor will likely get a goal, so I think it's worth the (additional) 4 point hit.

I have some kind of idea of my wildcard team but not given too much thought for that 🙁 I have 0.7 ITB. I don't think I'm going Rooney long term so I'm going for Aguero when he's back.

I had this kind of WC team on my mind. What do you think about it.

        Mannone, Marshall
        Koscielny, Olsson, Clyne, Chester, Coleman
        Eriksen, Januzaj, Özil, Hazard, Silva
        JayRod, Lukaku, Suarez

This would leave me with 3.1 in the bank -> I could upgrade Lukaku to Aguero when he's back.

Nice. You have more money than me. I've been caught this week between Yaya and Silva, as I think Silva is the better player, but for some reason Yaya keeps getting goals. So I went with him and would perhaps recommend you do the same. That would make our midfield identical.

Chester has a pretty rubbish run of games, so maybe get another cheap defender. But then worth having JayRod, Aguero and Suarez as forwards, so perhaps reduce Koscielny for a cheapo.

Aside from Coleman, I have rotating defence of Burner/Chambers and Ward/McCartney.

I think do a wc. drop roo for luka or ade. drop krul for a better gkp - marshall/mannone is a popular combo. I have davis/mcgregor. add a city mid - silva for value and take on a cheap mid. mert and coleman is a good combo, I also have ward, chester and whittaker. try to squeeze that in whilst keeping enough cash to do negs > aguero and your set. hope this helps.

ps. do you still have your wc from the start?

Hello Asbash, my recommendations would be:

      1) Get a grav, i like gravs and i think the community do too.
      2) Play Bardsley, i like Bardsley a lot.
      3) Do Rooney -> Giroud next week if he plays well this.
      4) Use the wildcard in GW22 (replacing Harper, Negredo, Ravel and Barkley)

How much extra cash are people ready to spend on defenders having attacking threat over those who don't? I've been wondering quite a lot about this recently, especially about Zabaleta (6.0) over Nastasic (5.1), assuming Nasty's nailed on, which, imo, he should be. There are so many other examples too, Merte and Kosc, Coleman and Distin (when fit) etc.

As I'm on WC, I really think I should have a better captain option than Suarez in my team for this week.. Adebayor, Hazard, Ozil and Silva all tempt me..

I've never considered that combo in my WC
it means you have to play Car/Sun def everyweek, terrible

I agree, the fixtures are nice but both teams may be letting a few in when they're trying to stay in the league. Who's your combo Hanamichi?

Boruc/Davis, cheaper, so i play Soton def everyweek, feel better than Sun/Car everyweek

boruc/speroni ...... not really for rotation but to catch a few decent palace hom egames, the rest will be boruc as he was a beast early season....southampton soon upto full strength

ill get bardsley//burner for the cardiff sunderland rotation

I like Speroni's potential under Pulis, rotating with Sou doesn't look very good though. I'd prefer Marshall as my second because the fixtures are so preferable!..

Suarez, Ade and one more, Lukaku or Negredo?

Having Lukaku atm and hopefully ditching him for Aguero next week. but if Aguero is not fit next week, it would be nice to have Negredo already and save transfer....
