If the 3-1 defeat to Chelsea that left his side 14 points off the summit wasn’t galling enough, the dismissal of his skipper added insult to injury for David Moyes. Nemanja Vidic’s 90th-minute sending-off for a late tackle on Eden Hazard means the centre-half will now miss the next three matches across all competitions as the beleaguered United boss attempts to salvage his debut season at the helm:

After having his appeal for wrongful dismissal rejected earlier today, Vidic will now be sidelined for Wednesday’s Capital One Cup semi-final second leg against Sunderland as the Red Devils attempt to turn around a 2-1 deficit at Old Trafford. The Serbian will also be an absentee for the subsequent two league matches – at home to Cardiff a week tomorrow and away to Stoke the following weekend – before being available for selection ahead of the Gameweek 25 visit of Fulham. His Old Trafford team-mate Rafael was a little lucky not to join Vidic on the naughty step after his two-footed challenge on Gary Cahill was only deemed worthy of a yellow card.

Elsewhere, Hull’s Tom Huddlestone is suspended for one match this weekend after earning a couple of yellow cards in last Saturday’s defat at Norwich. The midfielder is available for Gameweek 23, though, and will instead sit out the Tigers’ FA Cup Fourth Round trip to Southend.

This morning, the FA charged Nicolas Anelka for his gesture during the December 28 clash with West Ham. The Baggies forward has until 6pm on Thursday evening to respond to the charge.

In terms of yellow cards accumulated over the previous Gameweek, Aston Villa continue to rack up the bookings. Ciaran Clark earned his seventh caution of the campaign against Liverpool on Saturday evening, whilst Ashley Westwood and Karim El Ahmadi picked up their sixth and fifth respectively. Bearing in mind Paul Lambert’s side also have Fabian Delph on eight bookings and Gabby Agbonlahor sitting on seven, the Midlands side are certainly living up to their “Villains” nickname.

Indeed, no other team has five players with five or more cautions – United, Chelsea and Newcastle are the closest, with four culpable players apiece.

Eriksen is the most on form player in the game - average of 8ppg in the last 5.

Has this been the most boring winter period in the fantasy football and the premier league ever? It is usually a time with a lot of matches, excitement and big matches in the premier League but I have been a little let down this year.

    1) Teams have became so predictable and there is so many essential players this year with very little difference between most teams. Most people have this template and fill in the rest depending on budget:
    ?, ?
    Koscelney, Coleman, ward, Chester, ?
    Hazard, yaya/silva, Lallana, ? ?
    Aguero, Suarez, ?

This makes the winter wildcard pointless as it leaves people with similar teams and points and I've had most the players since before I wildcarded. It is a time where people break away from their rivals but this can't happen if you have the same players. How many of the players do you have now that are in that template?

    2) There has been very little transfers happening this transfer window. The January window is usually more boring than the summer but this year has been even worse. I can't think of any big transfers? I know deadline day will bring a few surprises but so far there's been very little.

    3) There are usually matches called off and double game weeks which bring out big points scores and really show the difference in fantasy managers but there has been none this winter. No planning of transfers and no 100+ points hauls.

    4) Many big players such as Aguero/Rooney/RVP/Michu/ Walcott etc. have been injured lately and we've been missing out in their big points scores. This makes people rely on Suarez (C) and the way he is bringing in points, he is most peoples captain every week.

So with some teams and players consistently scoring well and little happening in transfers and fixtures, is it time to bring in some differentials or just stay boring and stay with the pack.

Admittedly I have 6 of those, but that still leaves 9 slots in the squad for potential differentials. I haven't tried to copy the template but I haven't worried about accidentally replicating it either.

For anyone who does dare to stray from the template, there is a golden opportunity to get ahead.

Every year people moan about template teams and yet it's very rare to see someone with all the same players as you. Obviously most active players will transfer in the players scoring the most points - that's the aim of the game after all. It's about packing in all the best players that you can and filling the other positions with the best budget players that you can.
Double gameweeks are always later on in the season.
RVP/Ronaldo/Bale - there's always been a stand out captain option for most weeks.
I don't really feel there is anything different about this season.

Funny thing is when you offer up differentials like I have tried to get some responses from the posters here but not many lend support to those for example...
      Cahill instead of overpriced Terry
Downgrade possible injured Coleman to Distin to use money elsewhere
      Navas instead of Silva/Toure
      Wilshere ahead of Ramsey
Cech and a 3.9 instead of Mannone / Boruc

Seems to me only way to play is get the core 3 or 4 and try differentiate with other players

    Szczesny
    Coleman, Koscielny and Kolarov
    Adam Johnson, Gnabry, Cabaye and Hazard;
    Suárez, Negredo and Sturridge.

and have a 104.5 team value next week (24), more 2, 8 than this week, what do you think???

I played this WC team last week, and am now having trouble thinking what to do about Ozil and Negredo:

    Boruc, Mannone
    Azpi, Coleman, Chester, Koscielny, Turner
    Ozil, Cabaye, Januzaj, Hazaard, Pozuelo
    Aguero, Suarez, Negredo

    A: Keep both, save FT
    B: Keep Ozil, Negredo ---> Sturridge/Giroud
    C: Ozil + Negredo ---> Yaya + Giroud (-4)
    D: Other

To me he is just so blatantly the most talented, creative, and skilled player on the pitch for MU with their forwards out. On frees, great crosser, so threatening. He is also very cheap for our game. Hasn't returned the points, true, but seems to be in the mix on virtually every positive play from them and very close with assisting the assister recently to me!

Very much no. He's a back up keeper and to provide competition. If Mannone's form radically drops them he'll play. But that would have to be quite a turnaround considering Mannone is the best goalkeeper in the prem league right now.

Do we like Bony as a pick? Even over the likes of Sturridge/GiroudAdebayor/Benteke?

His fixtures can't really get any better.

      Here is the proof

      http://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/sunderland-afc-sign-argentina-goalkeeper-6534663

Poyet confirmed: “We are very close to signing Oscar Ustari until the end of the season.

“Everything is done, it is just the confirmation and the paperwork that needs to go through.

“He is a goalkeeper who has been playing for Almeria, and he is an Argentina international.

“I hope it gets done so he can go to the game tomorrow, then I can relax having him on the bench as cover.”

Here is one for you, a completely different structure to the current template; take a look and tell me what you think:

    Mannone Adrian (rotate)
Koscielny Azpillicueta Yoshida Ward Chester (play Dave and Kos everyweek, rotate latter 3)
Hazard Eriksen Wilshere Silva Noone (Noone to sit on bench and come on if required)
    Aguero Suarez Rooney

Does the inclusion of rooney distort the balance too much, after all it is the choice of Giroud (or lower price), ramsey and Kolarov/coleman

Probably total BS in my opinion, but another note of caution on Mannone:
