If the 3-1 defeat to Chelsea that left his side 14 points off the summit wasn’t galling enough, the dismissal of his skipper added insult to injury for David Moyes. Nemanja Vidic’s 90th-minute sending-off for a late tackle on Eden Hazard means the centre-half will now miss the next three matches across all competitions as the beleaguered United boss attempts to salvage his debut season at the helm:

After having his appeal for wrongful dismissal rejected earlier today, Vidic will now be sidelined for Wednesday’s Capital One Cup semi-final second leg against Sunderland as the Red Devils attempt to turn around a 2-1 deficit at Old Trafford. The Serbian will also be an absentee for the subsequent two league matches – at home to Cardiff a week tomorrow and away to Stoke the following weekend – before being available for selection ahead of the Gameweek 25 visit of Fulham. His Old Trafford team-mate Rafael was a little lucky not to join Vidic on the naughty step after his two-footed challenge on Gary Cahill was only deemed worthy of a yellow card.

Elsewhere, Hull’s Tom Huddlestone is suspended for one match this weekend after earning a couple of yellow cards in last Saturday’s defat at Norwich. The midfielder is available for Gameweek 23, though, and will instead sit out the Tigers’ FA Cup Fourth Round trip to Southend.

This morning, the FA charged Nicolas Anelka for his gesture during the December 28 clash with West Ham. The Baggies forward has until 6pm on Thursday evening to respond to the charge.

In terms of yellow cards accumulated over the previous Gameweek, Aston Villa continue to rack up the bookings. Ciaran Clark earned his seventh caution of the campaign against Liverpool on Saturday evening, whilst Ashley Westwood and Karim El Ahmadi picked up their sixth and fifth respectively. Bearing in mind Paul Lambert’s side also have Fabian Delph on eight bookings and Gabby Agbonlahor sitting on seven, the Midlands side are certainly living up to their “Villains” nickname.

Indeed, no other team has five players with five or more cautions – United, Chelsea and Newcastle are the closest, with four culpable players apiece.

Sunderland & West Ham are a great pairing in home & away but, each is a bottom 3/4 defensive side.

Further, is Adrian now nailed on? (4 starts in 6 but...)

Tempting. The way CB have been scoring a CS is almost worth 5/6pts with due to the new BPS.

If a team like Chelsea can keep 8 CS the rest of the way then a player like Terry would be set to score a heap of points...

    Repost,

Here is one for you, a completely different structure to the current template; take a look and tell me what you think:

    Mannone Adrian (rotate)
Koscielny Azpillicueta Yoshida Ward Chester (play Dave and Kos everyweek, rotate latter 3)
Hazard Eriksen Wilshere Silva Noone (Noone to sit on bench and come on if required)
    Aguero Suarez Rooney

Does the inclusion of rooney distort the balance too much, after all it is the choice of Giroud (or lower price), ramsey and Kolarov/coleman

Nice gameweek rank, you have team value of 110m, you can afford to have decent subs.
I'm not convinced that having to bench a 7m mid and play a 4m defender every week is a good idea.

the funny side of FPL..someone saying a player (in this case Januzaj) isn't good (IRL) because he doesn't score or assist that much so isn't that great for FPL.

so..good player on the pitch only if good on FPL..

Well that doesn't make sense, Januzaj is a great player for his age and has exposed this Utd side for being as weak as they are by making man of the match performances - however he is a pretty terrible fantasy pick, example being that he has only scored 12pts in the last 5 games (2.4ppg). Clearly not good enough for a 4th mid, possibly even 5th mid choice.

But even if he converted those shots at a more human rate, he's still a threat. Is it sustainable? I doubt it. I'd prefer paying 1m more for a player in a team with less doubt over attacking capability: Eriksen or Lallana.

Off the subject, but for what it's worth, I hope Anelka gets a life-long ban for his recent gesture. There's obviously no place for racism of any kind in sport, but what he did takes it to a whole new level and is so much worse than simple name-calling in the heat of the moment.

Hatred for others, purely for the fact that they are different to ourselves is the lowest of the low.

Are you being deliberately disingenuous? The quenelle is frequently used to express outright antisemitic sentiment. Saying it's "anti-zionist" is absolute tripe.

It's not impossible that Anelka, like many, is a bit of an eedjit and not fully aware of the connotations at play. But then again, being a friend of the bloke who popularised the salute, I somehow doubt it.

Our world will never be without racists, anti semites or whatever, definitely not in our lifetime. I'm an avid fan of Star Trek, which is an idealistic concept I very much adhere to and hope it's mankinds future. What Ron Atkinson did was much worse, yet many black players showed their support. 'Quenelle' means 'scoop' or 'dumpling' and is performed by holding one arm straight by one's side while touching that arm's shoulder with the opposite hand.

I'm glad you are so sure of yourself. I didn't have a clue the gesture even existed until he made it.

By the way, if he deliberately made an anti-semitic gesture, a very long ban would be fine by me. But I am not sure how anyone can prove he did - that gesture seems to mean 50 different things. Does Anelka have previous of this sort of thing that would hint at intent?

Well he said he did it as a tribute to his friend who is well known for his anti semitic views, uses the gesture in his act and has been convicted of anti semitic offences..

I can't see how anyone could believe he means anything but an anti-semitic gesture with what he did. And what makes it worse for me is the cowardice in attempting to make such a firm gesture of something he obviously feels so strongly about, then subsequently denying the reasons for doing it.

I believe he was showing support for his friend. Sure some 'isms' must not be tolerated but there's much more wrong with the world than worrying if people are being politically correct.

I don't care what he thought the gesture meant. The fact is he performed a gesture that is widely regarded as anti-Semitic in front of the world to see. Long ban deserved.

    In relation to RMU's post:
The fact that games were not cancelled and thus no DGWs has helped the casuals hang onto their ranking. This together with the fact that most of the people that have given up since the early GWs have left Suarez (c) and possibly Yaya,Coleman and Hazard in their teams. I have been playing this game for 4 years and I am finding it extremely difficult to rise up the rankings even though most of my GW scores are pretty good.
If i had the same points in previous seasons i would definitely be in top 10k at least and not 100k as i am now...

Seriously people need realistic expectations. There are over 3,000,000 players and everyone wants to be top 10k.
The top 1% of players is at 30k.
To be in the top 10k is the same thing as winning a league made up at random with 300 players.

        that's a great illustration

anyways, the rules are the same for every manager. Somehow 10k managers have found a way to make the top 10,000.... I doubt that very many of them are new to FPL, and I believe they've compteted their way to the top, which includes being 'lucky' with their GW1 team.

I agree, you have to be pretty switched on to get up there but at the same time getting into the top 1% of all managers and finishing in the top 30k is a great achievement.
At the start of a season my aim is top 2%of all players which i think is more realsitic from a personal point of view than top 10k.
Only people like Evs should have a realistic expectation of finishing really high up.
Imagine playing poker against 300 people and needing to win - that's alot of luck and alot of players to beat - no matter how good you are!

Not sure what I want as far as Coleman goes

If I keep him I either go without the West Ham/Sunderland defensive rotation and Terry or I go without City defence

If I dump him I can have both but then since I paid 5.0 for him, I wouldn't be getting him back.

    Don't know tbh

After conceding 5 goals in 2 games during the time Gerrard was DM for Liverpool, is it safe to assume Joe Allen takes over Lucas' defensive duties and Gerrard more of a central role instead of DM?

"more of" a central role, yes.

      A central role? Not necessarily.

BR has been talking about using a "pivot" with Gerrard, sort of a trendy phrase/concept going around at the moment. He mentioned SG being Liverpool's Pirlo, prolonging his playing career by being more defensive.

Don't knwo what they were thinking rushing Lucas in as a sub, when they could (should) have used allen. now Lucas is out 2 months.

Considering selling myself. Three great home games but three terrible away games in the next six and you can't bench him at that price. Showed no attacking intent yesterday and Mirallas is taking free kicks. Very expensive to be relying on pens

Ramsey beats it, also Eriksen's recent form is much higher and Cabaye isn't too far off.
With tricky away games coming up his ppg could fall quite quickly.

All of those have not shown themselves to be capable of maintaining that scoring rate (by which i mean over at least a season) The difference is that Baines has.

I do however agree that Baines could easily score relatively poorly over the next few games - I have him and am considering dropping him (for now)

This. I prefer spreading it around at defense and having coverage from a few of the big teams and rotate. Don't subscribe to the notion that defenders should be nailed in your team I like benching them against fixtures where they seem unlikely to return a clean.

I think he's worth it. He out scored pretty much all mids in the game before his injury, apart from yaya & Ramsey. He's on pens and some free kicks. Look at him as a an extra mid and he's still good value IMO. Don't just go off last nights performance, which was one of the poorest this season. Everton are better than that.
