Having assessed those boasting prime platforms for strong returns in the coming Gameweeks, we now turn to assess those on far more shaky foundations. The in-form Black Cats and Arsene Wenger’s title chasing charges feature amongst those blessed by few favours from the fixture computer.

Sunderland

sun25

The transformation under Gus Poyet has been remarkable: unbeaten in their last four, fresh from a 3-0 triumph at St James’ Park, Fantasy managers should be carefully running the rule over their mid-price assets. The fixture list strongly suggests we should cool our boots, however, with newly acquired prize possessions – Vito Manonne and Adam Johnson are perhaps set for a barren run as Poyet’s men come back down to earth with a proverbial bump.

The Gameweek 28 blank is the first consideration – around that we have three evil away fixtures at City, Arsenal and Liverpool. It’s hard to imagine the Black Cats’ rearguard standing up to that assault, making home matches with Hull and Palace precious intervals in what is a harrowing schedule. Johnson’s form could carry him through, although he will have to add the “fixture proof†attribute to his growing reputation as a Fantasy asset if he is to live up to his recent level of investment.

Arsenal

ars25

With the Gunners now firmly under threat from City and Chelsea in the title race, Arsene Wenger’s men are on the eve of their most testing run of fixtures with Liverpool, United and Spurs on the horizon in the next six. A trip to Stoke offers little respite, making the Emirates meetings with Sunderland and an off-colour Swansea all the more vital.

Fantasy managers are perhaps likely to hold firm in the hope that Wenger’s men can weather the approaching storm but, defensively, returns look unlikely beyond the two aforementioned home encounters. In attacking terms, there is still much to be optimistic about, with the Liverpool, United and City defences all having apparent cracks to expose.

Fulham

ful25

It seems highly unlikely that Fantasy managers would dare knock on the door at Craven Cottage, even to consider the newly acquired talents of Kostas Mitroglou. There’s little question that the form of Rene Meulensteen’s side is faltering badly, just in time to coincide with a run of opponents that will likely leave them rooted to the bottom of the table come mid-March. United, Liverpool and Chelsea loom in the next three, surely consigning Fulham to scrap for points in the away trips to West Brom and Cardiff.

Also be wary of…

Man United
The blank in Gameweek 28 already prompts the need for caution when considering United’s assets and form would suggest that they are unlikely to make light of a testing run of matches heading into March. Three away trips follow the Old Trafford encounter with Fulham, with Arsenal, Palace and West Brom amongst the most stubborn home defences in the league.

Crystal Palace
While Tony Pulis’ rearguard resources have served us well in recent weeks, they look set to be stretched by forthcoming encounters with Everton and United, while trips to Swansea and Sunderland, plus a Selhurst Park meeting with in-form Southampton, also suggest that clean sheets will be hard to come by.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Not mad no, but it's riskier than captaining S or S

Norwich are better defensively at home too, maybe City will bang in 2 or 3, but I don't think it'll be a slaughter.

I'm currently on him myself. Risky alright but could pay off massively. Though he hasn't exactly exploded this year. Like the first matchday. He got the start, City trounced Newcastle but he didnt get anything at all. I felt so gutted after I backed him.

Here's my squad...any suggestions? I just brought Fonte back in - (WCd him out wks ago..wish I hadn't) for Nasty. My thoughts are to possibly replace Janu next wk if he doesn't start and eventually upgrade Ade to the 'in-form' striker if he dips.

    Mannone/(Marshall)
    Merte/Cahill/Fonte (Gabbidon/Chester)
    Haz/Silva/Eriksen/Lallana (Janu)
    Suarez/Ade/Studge

    3.5 in bank.

      Decent
      - Mannone , problems on the horizon
      - Marshall , can't see OGS getting cs.
      - Chester (i) may affect you gw28
      - Silva (I have) is an expensive luxury (gw28)
      - Eriksen , I'm not convinced on Sherwood
      - janu - ditch (gw28)
      - Ade , give me jrod/lamb/ Giroud even
      IMHO

        Interesting take...thanks.

I too am not convinced of my GKs..but I have to ride their very kind fixtures and they do rotate oh so well...but this is the one area I don't fret about much.

Chester could be a problem in 28, but I'm not overloaded on blankers on purpose.

Silva is easy to swap to another pricey MF or as part of a hit to fund a big striker purchase...I got him as a Yaya diff and he's been ok for me so far.

Eriksen looks like a man who wants to score or set someone up -- very dangerous player imo with an eye towards goal, esp since Sherwood took over.

Eh, I can't double up on Soton attack (have Lallana) and Giroud's fixtures just got worse. Ade is still in form as far as I can tell but he would be part of the upgrade I mentioned previously.

        All good food for thought!!!

      Toss a coin,

Yaya seems to be having a storming season and is on pens, free kicks

Suarez is at home and can score against anyone but can't see him going mad against Ars

Hazard at home against Newcastle - he will or he won't but it seems to me that there's so many others wanting to hog the ball e.g. Willian, Oscar

Southampton may get a clean sheet home to Stoke, so that's 2pts max (6 - 4). Cant see Arsenal clean sheet at Anfield, so maybe Kosc max 2pts.

Equal if Soton get a Clean sheet (but beware the Crouch paradox)

So just remains will RVP outscore Roony?

RVP is the better investment. But also think Kosc is better investment than Yosh. Id be looking at Gab, Bruce or Puncheon to get the funds.

I'll hold off till the pressers and see who's all fit, If Negredo's out if might go Dzeko instead. Soton have geat fixtures compared to Arsenal so it would be over a few weeks to make the hit worth it but the blank is putting me off RVP.

I hope so, I just bought him in!

He doesn't seem to like playing Luiz at CB, and Ivanovic has been RB, so who else is there?

Think him and JT have them spots nailed down.

Fair enough...my definition of nailed on means he starts every game possible (within reason) and doesn't really have competition or is at the mercy of lineup whims from the manager (Luiz plays in front of back four currently, seems the only place Jose trusts him).

Yeah I'd agree that Cahill is first choice if you take a game week in isolation. Although I think there is a good chance he will see rotation because of the fixture congestion.

Sturridge's numbers compared with Suarez' is interesting. It would take a brave man but when Kun is back fit Suarez' could be the one to go if United get their act together with their fixtures to end the season with.

I'm 43 points ahead of 2nd in my ML, worth a captain punt on Hazard?

He doesn't have Hazard, whereas we both have Suarez (who I assume he will be captaining)

    Other options are:

    A Johnson
    JRod
    Yaya
    Sturridge

I like to think that if you have Suarez and Sturridge you can get away with taking a (c) punt on someone other than Suarez, as they set each other up and share their points.

BUT, if you're ahead it might be better to maintain the status quo.

I'm only 16 points ahead in my ML but will be taking a gamble on Mata (c)

A bit of talk about doubling up on Chelsea at the moment. Could we be in trouble for having too many eggs in one basket with a possible blank in GW29? It'd leave just 3 remaining defenders who might also have blanks.

Certainly not insane. In fact many would say it makes total sense to sell an Arsenal defender for a Chelsea one. You will need to use your judgement as to whether you think Cahill is nailed on enough though. Close call imo.
