David Moyesโ€™ men are under further scrutiny as United fail to beat basement-dwellers Fulham at Old Trafford, while Emmanuel Adebayor sneaks a winner against Everton to send Spurs above the Toffees in the race for Champions League football.

Van Persie Still Toiling to Justify Price Tag
Robin van Persieโ€™s equaliser at Old Trafford means he has now scored in all three appearances since returning from a thigh injury. Indeed, the Dutchman has found the net in seven of his last eight Premier League games and, whilst he is beginning to show some of the consistency that made him FPLโ€™s most expensive player, heโ€™s produced just two sets of double figures over that run, offering far less security as an armband option. Luis Suarez had left the captainโ€™s door wide open with a nominal contribution to his sideโ€™s five goals on Saturday โ€“ Eden Hazardโ€™s 21 point-haul set the benchmark sky-high but Van Persieโ€™s six points at home to a struggling side was hugely disappointing for those managers whoโ€™d readjusted their squads in order to accommodate the 13.6 forward.

Rooney Stumbles Again as Mata Ticks Over
If van Persieโ€™s performance was underwhelming, Wayne Rooneyโ€™s owners will be seriously considering his Fantasy prospects. Having started the game just behind Van Persie, with Ashley Young and Juan Mata either side, Rooney once again played a significant portion of the game in a withdrawn berth. The England forward arguably improved the hosts threat from his deeper role but, at 11.3, heโ€™s now drawn blanks in all three appearances since returning from injury and could well be set for a transfer out of our squads. Mata, on the other hand, shared a near-identical average position with Rooney but had far superior creative outputs. The Spaniard created five chances to Rooney’s one and picked up a third assists in as many games โ€“ with a couple of bonus points also accrued, the 9.8-priced midfielder is steadily accumulating the points, in spite of his sideโ€™s struggles.

Time to Forget Moyesโ€™ Defence
Fulhamโ€™s exposure of Unitedโ€™s defensive fragility will have set alarm bells ringing as the Champions prepare for five weeks on the road across all competitions. Moyesโ€™ men have picked up just two clean sheets away from Old Trafford this season, and face a challenging run of fixtures which afford them home comforts in just two their next six league games – playing host to free-scoring Liverpool and Manchester City in that period. With a blank in Gameweek 28 confirmed, there could surely be no worse a time to invest in the Red Devilsโ€™ rearguard.

Sidwell in the Goals Yet Again
Rene Meulensteen rang the changes following Fulhamโ€™s dismal home defeat to Southampton. The Cottagers boss opted for a younger, more mobile line-up, with Brede Hangeland, Damien Duff, Scott Parker and Darren Bent dropping to the bench, yet it was an old face who stole the limelight, as Steve Sidwell continued to defy his 5.2 FPL price tag. The industrious midfielder was instrumental in the Cottagerโ€™s upset at Old Trafford and, having notched his sixth strike of the season, now sits 13th in the midfield standings – one point above David Silva – and top by position on points per pound. It remains to be seen whether Meulensteenโ€™s invigorated squad will offer up more budget-friendly alternatives as the weeks progress, but with tough games in the short term (LIV, wba, CHE), Fantasy managers will likely remains sceptical for now.

Adebayor the Tottenham Talisman as Eriksen is Hauled off Early
A match-winning goal and couple of bonus points kept Emanuel Adebayor on Fantasy radars yesterday. The Togolese star now boasts six goals and three assists in his nine Premier League starts under Tim Sherwood โ€“ a very respectable 6.2 points per game, level with Van Persie and Rooney and bettered only by Suarez, Sergio Aguero and Daniel Sturridge this season. The 7.9-priced forward continues to offers exceptional value ahead of trips to Newcastle and Norwich before Spurs welcome Cardiff to the Lane in Gameweek 28, when the likes of United and City both face blanks.

Christian Eriksenโ€™s owners will be somewhat concerned by yesterdayโ€™s turn of events, though. The Dane, who had missed just 23 minutes of Sherwoodโ€™s first eight matches in charge, was given just 58 minutes to impress before being replaced by Andros Townsend against Everton. As the injuries start to ease in midfield, it seems his game time is a little less secure than weโ€™d hoped for, with Sherwood willing to sacrifice him early in order to change things around.

Vertonghenโ€™s Return Builds Case for Spursโ€™ Defence
The 6.9-priced defender immediately registered on the FPL radar on his return to action last week with a couple of bonus points against Hull, despite his side conceding at the KC. With Sundayโ€™s clean sheet against the high-flying Toffees, the Belgian is showing some encouraging Fantasy form ahead of those tidy fixtures over the next three gameweeks. Spurs have kept a clean sheet in 50% of the games in which Vertonghen has played (eight from 16), a figure that dropped to 22% (two from nine) during his absence. His influence will certainly boost the appeal of the Spurs defence, with Kyle Walker perhaps the most likely to reap investment. Walkerโ€™s assist from a quickly-taken free-kick sealed three bonus points, as the right back continues to offer attacking threat along with his improved clean sheet potential.

Who is the best defender to get in this week?

I need a Bardsley replacement but who to pick from:

    WHM - Demel 4.5 - BUY
The obvious budget choice as west ham have the best form/fixtures combination of the cheaper defences. Demel seems the only nailed on chap as there's competition for CB places with Reid returning, though with O'Brien out until April could McCartney be a bargain at 4.0?

    LIV - Flanagan 4.3 - AVOID
Liverpool have less busy schedules than the top teams and in their imperious form Flanagan could get some assists to add to any cleanies in the next 6 fairly easy fixtures. Careful though as Glen Johnson has recovered quicker than expected from his injury and is likely to slot straight back in at RB when fit, leaving Flanagan to battle it out with Cissokho at LB.

    SOU - MONITOR
A kind change in fixtures has seen great returns from investment in Southaptons's attacking assets. At the back however Lovren's imminent return affects Yoshida's bargain appeal (expected back in the next three by Physioroom) and Clyne's rotation with Calum Chambers has meant it's still uncertain as to who to plum for at the moment. Shaw and Fonte look nailed on, though until Wanyama is back protecting the backline I think better value is offered with WHM or EVE.

    EVE - Distin 5.2 Coleman 6.5 - BUY
Coleman looked great going forward yesterday and is likley to get some attacking returns over their very kind fixture schedule, though does this justify the 1.3 extra over Distin? - I'd like to hear your thoughts. Everton have four home games in the next six to CPL WHM CAR SWA which look very nice, though Andy Carroll will be back for the West Ham game and Palace are looking sharp in attack at the moment, I feel the fixture ticker perhaps makes these fixtures look nicer than they are.

    CHE - Azpi 5.4 Cahill 6.0 Ivan 6.1 - BUY
In the league's most in-form defence Terry's rest by no means makes him a bad pick, though he could be tired and less likely to get the attacking returns we would want from him over Azpi. The remaining three starters offer security or attacking returns, though perhaps with Luiz lurking around for a position Cahill's spot may come under more threat (no evidence yet to suggest this though). Excellent fixtures.
My main concern with Chelsea is their very busy fixture schedule and how likely this may be to cause rotation, Terry owners were the first to suffer this weekend and with Luiz, Cole and Azpi's versatility no one looks totally safe. - Again I'd love to hear your thoughts.

    MAN - Kompany 6.3 BUY
Easily the best next six fixtures including a double gameweek, City are hard to ignore.
Demilchelis has made some gaffs of late so I'm not convinced of his starting spot yet, and with Kolarov and Clichy battling it out for LB I'd aviod either of them as well. Zaba is a hero in these parts though hasn't provided attacking returns in his last 7 and faces competition from Richards. The tasilmanic Kompany at 6.0 looks like the man to get then.
There is however the major issue of rotation, with seven games in March (it could be more win an FA cup win over Chelsea) it seems the depth of City's squad is likely to be utilised.

    TOT - Walker 6.1 - MONITOR
Tottenham still seem in transition under Sherwood and with Cardiff and Newcastle looking quite attacking and Southampton, Chelsea and Arsenal in the next six I think there's better options for the next six.

In conclusion I'd love to get either Cech or Hart in fot their security of starts ๐Ÿ™‚ , though as I'm replacing Bardsley and chatting defenders it looks like either Demel, Kompany or Ivan are the picks to make. This doesn't however include reasoning from stats so perhaps Wakey/Doos/The Numbers article need to be consulted first.

    Suarez - Studgy - Ade

As you can see I go for uber cheap bench for more cash on pitch, like it that way although faye was a mistake haha! WC error! 0.6 ITB.

    Morning lads.
Considering suarez-sturridge to free up some funds. Seems like sturridge is getting the same/more points than suarez after he got back. I can then get in some differential-strikers such as eto'o or lambert. Thoughts?

    Cheers

I can do that as I have 2 FTs so can free up funds but I think carrying a FT over for the next 2-3 GWs could be quite useful.

I've got 2 transfers at the moment as well. Not having Hazard in the team has burned me a ton and also the already crooked Evans has forced me to play my budgeted defenders. I could save the next two.
