[sbu_large_image] Suspensions

Wes Brown’s red card habit continues to blight the Black Cats chances of beating the drop after the centre-half was sent packing for the third time this term.

Given that the first dismissal (for a foul on Charlie Adam back in Gameweek 12) was rescinded, however, this means Brown will only serve a two-match ban – one for denying a goalscoring opportunity and another for receiving his second confirmed suspension of the season.

The former United man was a victim of Gus Poyet’s penchant for playing it out from the back on Saturday. Phil Bardsley’s pass into no man’s land was pounced upon by Shane Long and, as the Baggies new boy bore sprinted towards goal, Brown scythed him down just outside the penalty area with only four minutes on the clock.

Playing with 10 men for the rest of the match, the Wearsiders were unable to extend their four-match unbeaten run as both Long and strike partner Nikica Jelavic notched a goal apiece to help Steve Bruce get one over his former club.

Brown will now miss Wednesday’s trip to City and is set to be sidelined for the upcoming FA Cup clash with Southampton, meaning he only misses one league match. Looking at Sunderland’s recent defensive displays, this is a huge relief for Poyet – the Black Cats have four clean sheets in the last six games that Brown has played from start to finish, winning three and drawing three of those fixtures. Bizarrely, he has yet to receive a yellow card this term.

We now have five players on the right-card limit after Stoke’s Jon Walters earned another yellow during Saturday’s draw at St Mary’s. He joins Fabian Delph, Marouane Chamakh, Wayne Rooney and Jonas Olsson on the naughty step, with 11 players further back on seven cautions apiece.

Elsewhere, Andy Carroll serves the second of his controversial three-match ban against Norwich tomorrow, with the Hammers target man also set to sit out the Gameweek 27 home game against Southampton. Mathieu Flamini, Allan McGregor and Loic Remy are also sidelined, with all three serving the last of their respective three-match suspensions.

Finally, Yaya Toure owners can breathe a sigh of relief after the FA confirmed they will not be taking action over his alleged altercation with Norwich’s Ricky Van Wolfswinkel at the weekend.

The incident, which was missed by the match officials, was reviewed by a three-man panel of former referees earlier today. In order for a charge to follow, all three must agree the act was violent conduct but their decision was not unanimous, meaning Toure is free to turn out for City against Sunderland tomorrow evening.

Cardiff’s Craig Bellamy has been charged for an incident in Saturday’s loss at Welsh rivals Swansea and looks poised to face a three-match ban. The panel were unanimous in their decision, though the Bluebirds have since confirmed they are reviewing the matter ahead of tomorrow’s 6pm deadline. If found guilty, Bellamy will miss home league games against Villa and Hull, in addition to an FA Cup clash with Wigan, before being available for selection in time for the Gameweek 28 trip to Tottenham.

More info regarding tube strike impacting games in London

A spokesperson for Arsenal said: 'The match still going ahead at present, but we are in constant liaison with all relevant authorities. Similar to last week's strike, we understand some parts of the tube network will still be running. We are urging fans to plan their journeys and leave plenty of time.

In December 2011, Arsenal postponed their Boxing Day fixture against Wolves by 24 hours because of planned industrial action on the tube but this week have instead chosen to issue a reminder to supporters to allow plenty of time for their journey to the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal commented that: 'The reason the Boxing Day match a couple of years ago was postponed, was because there were no overground services working either, as it was a national holiday'

Clubs must have a certain number of stadium staff on site to meet safety regulations before they stage a public event like a Premier League football match with crowds in excess of 20,000, so the games will be under threat if there was a problem with workers making their way to and from the venues. As it stands, both Arsenal and Fulham are confident their games will be able to go ahead.

I've gone Sterling over him due to Nolan's 100% goal conversion in the last 2 (4 shots, 4 goals). Surely unsustainable. I will predict max 1 goal in the next 2 which would still be decent but rather take the cash and use it on my 2 FTs next week after we know about FA Cup.

GAMEWEEK 29 POSSIBILITIES - right here, right now. There’s no stats and miscalculated probabilities here… just cold hard facts. 😉 I’ve just been using it to access each transfer options I’ve weighed up. Thought I may as well share it. Feel free to scroll on by / bookmark as you see fit. 😀

As we all know, it isn’t straight forward to predict GW29 fixtures, with the FA Cup. Personally, I’m reluctant to make any transfers this week because of the doubts. However, this is what he do know:

Obviously if either team from a GW29 fixture is into the FA Cup 6th round, this will cause disruption.
The midweek before GW29 is an international midweek, so games cannot be brought forward.
There are Champions League fixtures during the following midweek. Hopefully someone can clarify it, but I think this prevents fixtures being moved to the midweek, as it would cause TV clashes between UEFA and FA matches - a big ‘no no’ I believe for Platini.

Therefore, (I think) this will cause blank GWs for teams.

    ARSENAL
    FA Cup: Liverpool (H)
GW29: Swansea (H) (OUT of the FA Cup)
    Prospects:
    - Arsenal are strong at home, but the mental impact of a tough schedule and their recent thrashing from Liverpool could see them drop out of the FA Cup. Swansea are out already.
    - If Arsenal lose vs Liverpool, they have a strong GW29 fixture guaranteed.

    ASTON VILLA
    FA Cup: OUT
    GW29: Man City (A) (FA Cup - Chelsea (H))
    Prospects:
    - Already out of the FA Cup, the result of Man City vs Chelsea is the decider.
    - Should Man City vs Chelsea go to a replay, this will also disrupt GW29.
    - Even if Villa have a GW29 fixture, it’s as tough as it gets and not of FPL interest.

    CARDIFF
    FA Cup: Wigan (H)
GW29: Fulham (H) (OUT of the FA Cup)
    Prospects:
    - A potential banana skin for Cardiff, with Wigan out to cause a Cupset. Cardiff should come through.
    - If Cardiff do slip up, this would leave an attractive home fixture vs Fulham. However, predict a blank.

    CHELSEA
    FA Cup: Man City (A)
GW29: Tottenham (H) (OUT of the FA Cup)
    Prospects:
    - Their GW29 fate will be decided based on the Man City game, with Spurs already out.
    - Should Man City vs Chelsea go to a replay, this will also disrupt GW29.
    - If Chelsea go out, a home game against Spurs is unlikely to be high scoring.

    CRYSTAL PALACE
    FA Cup: OUT
    GW29: Southampton (H) (FA Cup - Sunderland (A))
    Prospects:
    - GW29 will depend on Sunderland vs Southampton. If Southampton go out, Palace have a home fixture GW29.

    EVERTON
    FA Cup: Swansea (H)
GW29: Newcastle (A) (OUT of the FA Cup)
    Prospects:
    - A very winnable FA Cup tie for Everton. This would leave them with a blank GW29.

    FULHAM
    FA Cup: OUT
    GW29: Cardiff (A) (FA Cup - Wigan (H))
    Prospects:
    - No FA Cup fixture. GW29 will depend on Cardiff vs Wigan.

    HULL
    FA Cup: Brighton (A)
GW29: West Ham (A) (OUT of the FA Cup)
    Prospects:
    - Another potential Cupset with an awkward away tie. If they slip up, a decent away trip to West Ham in GW29.

    LIVERPOOL
    FA Cup: Arsenal (A)
    GW29: Sunderland (H) (FA Cup - Southampton (H))
    Prospects:
    - Liverpool’s GW29 depends on two results. Should Liverpool lose to Arsenal and Southampton win away to Sunderland in the Cup, Liverpool would have an attractive GW29 at home.

    MAN CITY
    FA Cup: Chelsea (H)
GW29: Aston Villa (H) (OUT of the FA Cup)
    Prospects:
    - This one depends solely on the result of City vs Chelsea.
    - Should Man City vs Chelsea go to a replay, this will also disrupt GW29.
    - If Mourinho triumphs at the Etihad again, it creates the standout tie of GW29 - City at home to Villa.

    MAN UNITED
    FA Cup: OUT
GW29: West Brom (A) (OUT of the FA Cup)
    Prospects:
    - Guaranteed GW29 fixture - West Brom vs Man United.

    NEWCASTLE
    FA Cup: OUT
    GW29: Everton (H) (FA Cup - Swansea (H))
    Prospects:
    - Already out of the FA Cup, Newcastle will need Swansea to win away at Everton. This would leave Newcastle at home GW29 - but likely to be a blank.

    NORWICH
    FA Cup: OUT
GW29: Stoke (H) (OUT of the FA Cup)
    Prospects:
    - Guaranteed GW29 fixture - Norwich vs Stoke.

    SOUTHAMPTON
    FA Cup: Sunderland (A)
GW29: Crystal Palace (A) (OUT of the FA Cup)
    Prospects:
    - If the Saints lose away to Sunderland - a tough FA Cup fixture - they have a reasonable trip away to Crystal Palace.

    STOKE
    FA Cup: OUT
GW29: Norwich (A) (OUT of the FA Cup)
    Prospects:
    - Guaranteed GW29 fixture - Norwich vs Stoke.

    SUNDERLAND
    FA Cup: Southampton (H)
    GW29: Liverpool (A) (FA Cup - Arsenal (A))
    Prospects:
    - Another of the few dependent of two FA Cup games. Whatever happens, a trip to Anfield isn’t too attractive for Sunderland.

    SWANSEA
    FA Cup: Everton (A)
    GW29: Arsenal (A) (FA Cup - Liverpool (H))
    Prospects:
    - Like Sunderland, a lot is up in the air with two FA Cup games with the potential to cause a blank. However, also like Sunderland, there is a tricky GW29 tie regardless.

    TOTTENHAM
    FA Cup: OUT
    GW29: Chelsea (A) (FA Cup - Man City (A))
    Prospects:
    - Spurs are out of the FA Cup and would need City to beat Chelsea to have a GW29 fixture.
    - Should Man City vs Chelsea go to a replay, this will also disrupt GW29.
    - Even if Spurs have a GW29 fixture, they are away at Chelsea and not of huge interest

    WEST BROM
    FA Cup: OUT
GW29: Man United (H) (OUT of the FA Cup)
    Prospects:
    - Guaranteed GW29 fixture - West Brom vs Man United.

    WEST HAM
    FA Cup: OUT
    GW29: Hull (H) (FA Cup - Brighton (A))
    Prospects:
    - If Brighton pull off the upset, West Ham have a strong game in GW29 with Hull at home.

Lots of ifs and buts. And yes, I know we will only know for certain during the next GW (when the FA Cup fixtures happen).

However, if there are any necessary transfers this week, you can make an educated guess on the respective player’s GW29 fixture. Hope this helps. 🙂

My decision: I’ll be saving the transfer, despite areas for improvement. By the end of the next GW, we should know the exact blanks and fixtures for GW28 and GW29, meaning we can tailor 2 free transfers to a very key period.

    Mannone
    Coleman Cahill Turner
    Hazard Lallana AJ Eriksen
    Suarez JRod Rooney

Bench - (Kelvin Davis) Ward, Mutch, Chester

    Surely biggest problems are -
    1. Rooney
    2. Mannone (given my sub keeper doesn't play and his next 3 fixtures!

Would you use a hit this week to fix them both? Mannone > Adrian, and Rooney > Negredo/Adebayor are the obvious options..

Not sure why everybody is in such a rush to ditch RVP...7 goals in his last eight and on (virtually) 8ppg...Mun United playing pants but you can be certain they won't be playing for a draw any time soon, and RVP van only get sharper.

It's more for the money that people are getting rid but I don't really understand that as I see loads of teams with 5m+ in the bank. I've got him and keeping him as I don't need the money elsewhere at the moment.

He;s only played the last 3 games since coming back from injury and is averaging 7ppg. Sturridge averaging 8.6ppg over the same period and almost 4m cheaper. Lambert 7.6ppg and 6m cheaper. What i'm saying is there are better options for the money. Oh and don't forget the forthcoming blank. Oh and the fact he's lost most free kicks and corners so less potential for assists.

all RVP campaigners around here point to "potential" and "he can only get ___er" to support investing 12% of budget into what amounts to 7% of our teams (1 player of 15)

Here are form numbers (covering the last 1 month) for all forwards.
... bear in mind that RvP has a gw28 blank

      --player--TEAM--price--(avg.score over last 4 gw's)
      Sturridge LIV 9.9 8.8
      Eto'o CHE 8.3 7.8
      Suárez LIV 13.4 7.6
      Dzeko MCI 7.2 6.4
      Benteke AVL 8.8 6.2
      Lambert SOU 7.1 6.2
      Adebayor TOT 7.9 6.2

I'm not telling you anything you don't know, OP, but to the non-biased observer of what points money can buy, RVP is not giving value enough to reorganize a team with multiple transfers (hits)

(feel free to add "....Yet" to the end of these sentences if it helps you understand)

        He's not CR9 quite yet.

            That's true enough.

Make rvp into 7.0ppg, and do the math again...still not worth it. The RVPlievers will find a way to justify it, but i can't.

Rooney to Negredo,Dzeko or Sturridge? I have Suarez,Sterling Yaya and Kolarov. My worries are:

    1) Suarez,Sturridge and Sterling to be Liverpool overkill if I get Sturridge.
    2) If I get Negredo/Dzeko, I'll have 3 City players and I'll need to ship out 1 or 2 players before blank GW.

    Which way should I go?

Howdy matey, rank has been hovering around the 150k mark for about GW's now (currently 140k) and TV also hovering around the 113m mark over the same period (currently 113.6m, and selling value 110m :shock). Just goes to show that high TV doesn't always equal success. Still, hoping it will come good in the run up and still aiming for a top 5k finish.

      How you getting on?

    Evening all,

I was planning to take a hit in wk28 to ditch some players with blanks however given rooneys form I may decided to ditch him now.

Is it worth downing Rooney to sturridge this week for a -4?

    If I do then I won’t need a hit in wk 28

    Thoughts?

to be honest, I'm an owner but wanted him to get banned - would've shaken things up a bit.

Any ideas chaps? 4.0M and 1FT:

    Marshall (Mannone)
    Coleman, Cahill, Demel (Koscielny, Ward)
    Hazard, Mata, Lallana, Yaya (Noone)
    Suarez, Sturridge, J-Rod

    A) Marshall -> Adrian (double up WHU, good fixtures)
    B) Marshall -> Cech (double up CHE)
    C) Ward -> Azpil/Ivanovic (double up CHE...bit heavy in defence though?)

    Cheers.

Would you save a transfer here? Considering Mata > Yaya or AJ > Mirallas/Nolan

    Adrian
    Iva Kos Yoshi
    Haz Mata Oscar AJ
    Suarez Sturr Ade

    Mannone Noone Ward Evans
