Robin van Persie fires United into the last eight of the Champions League before being stretchered off against Olympiacos. Emmanuel Adebayor is an injury concern once again for Tottenham, Michael Turner is closing in on a Norwich comeback, whilst Craig Dawson is looking to nail down a starting berth for the Baggies:

VAN PERSIE TREBLE INSPIRES UNITED

David Moyes made four changes from Sunday’s embarrassing home defeat to Liverpool for last night’s Champions League showdown with Olympiacos, with Rio Ferdinand, Antonio Valencia, Danny Welbeck and the evergreen Ryan Giggs introduced to the starting line-up. Giggs repaid his manager’s faith with a controlling display in midfield, whilst it was under-fire Robin van Persie who was the hero on the night, bagging a hat-trick to send United through to the quarter-finals.

Van Persie was, however, worryingly stretchered off in the final minutes of the game, though Moyes has quickly played down fears of a serious injury to his star striker:

“I don’t think he’s too bad. He’s got a knock just behind his knee. We’ll know more in the morning.”

The Scout Says: United’s turbulent form continues, as does the fortunes of the most expensive player in Fantasy Premier League. Since returning from injury in Gameweek 23, Van Persie has ticked along with four goals, an assist and four bonus points in the last seven fixtures, hardly justifying his super-sized price tag. He, Moyes and his Fantasy owners will be desperate for last night’s salvo to kick-start his season, with the Dutchman’s contribution against the Greek side perhaps bringing him back into consideration for some. His performance last night certainly serves a timely reminder of his capabilities and sheer points power prior to a double Gameweek for United, and further news of the extent of his injury will thus be anxiously awaited by many.

DAWSON AIMS TO STAKE A CLAIM

West Brom centre-back Craig Dawson has talked up the ‘massive opportunity’’ offered to him by Jonas Olsson’s two game suspension as the ideal chance to prove his worth for his side. Dawson made only his fourth Premier League start for the Baggies in last weekend’s victory over Swansea, and the young Englishman – speaking in an interview with the club’s website – is now relishing the thought of retaining a regular starting berth in West Brom’s rearguard.

The Scout Says: With Hull, Cardiff and Norwich to face in the next three fixtures, Dawson’s wishes may well come true. The Baggies haven’t kept a clean sheet since the start of January but, on the back of Pepe Mel’s first win in charge and their upcoming schedule, Dawson, at just 3.9, could be primed to prove himself to both Mel and bargain-hunting Fantasy managers. Even upon Olsson’s return, Dawson could still retain his starting berth if his manager keeps faith in the 3-5-2 formation successfully rolled out against Swansea last Saturday.

TURNER READY FOR COMEBACK

Norwich defender Michael Turner has finally overcome a hamstring injury and completed 45 minutes of Under-21s football earlier this week. The centre-back is now looking forward to his imminent return to the Canaries’ first team, but is aware of the competition for places in the backline:

“There are good defenders in our squad – there will be four fit centre-halves now so there is going to be good competition for places, so whoever plays is going to have to perform to keep the shirt.”

The Scout Says: An ever-present for Norwich for the opening third of the season, Turner’s comeback looks set to give Chris Hughton plenty to mull over in the heart of his defence. Joseph Yobo has played every minute for the Canaries since signing in January, but his spot could well come under threat from the 4.1-priced Turner once he is back to full fitness. A decent short-term fixture list lies ahead for his side (SUN, swa, WBA, ful) before the schedule takes a severe turn for the worse – if Norwich are to avoid relegation then the next four games may well be key, and Turner could have an important part to play in ensuring the Canaries’ survival.

Injury Headache for Sherwood

Tottenham’s hopes of overcoming a 3-1 first leg Europa League defeat against Benfica were dealt a blow yesterday after a number of first-team players were omitted from the trip to Portugal through injury. Emmanuel Adebayor, Paulinho, Younes Kaboul, Hugo Lloris and Kyle Walker were amongst the names left behind in London as Tim Sherwood attempt to arrest a run of three straight defeats.

The Scout Says: Adebayor’s injury will be the main concern for Fantasy managers ahead of Sunday’s home game against Southampton. The Togo international was a doubt heading into last week’s clash with Arsenal and is struggling with hamstring and heel problems according to the club’s official website. Sherwood is doing all he can to protect the forward but Fantasy managers have clearly made their minds up – with a run of one assist in four appearances and a lack of a double Gameweek, he’s been shipped out by nearly 60,000 already this week and has dropped 0.4 in price over the last two weeks.

Players who are too stubborn and incapable of adapting are not good players IMO.

It may not be easy to spot new trends in advance, and not all bandwagons are good ones to jump on, but to continue to ignore them despite strong evidence is not good play.

Which players with a singe fixture will be in the FPL GW31 dream team (i.e. scored the most points) come the end of the gameweek?

Yaya has 165 FPL points in 26 games with 13 goals and 5 assists (6.3 ppg). Jordan only has 105 points from 29 games with 3 goals and 6 assists (3.6 ppg).

Whatever OPTA or the Members stats might say, are you seriously suggesting that Jordan has better attacking potential than Yaya?

It depends who the single and double game-weekers are. The best DGWers should be played ahead of the best players with a single game (unless there is an outstanding player with a single game against weak opposition who is odds on to make a double-digit points score). But the weakest players may not be worth playing even if they do have a DGW.

Have they ever had a player got rid of, then got in again, got rid of etc?

For this DGW, I had some options, but did'nt want to get a player I have had before such as Dzeko, Negredo - it just feels wrong, and for a player to really turn around within a season to make him get him again I think means you are fooling yourself.

A question about the points scoring system

With UFPL employing a very different scoring system to FPL do we think that the same scoring system may be rolled out for both games next season?...It makes no sense for the games developers to employ two scoring system for two similar games....Got to be a possibility at least.

probably been covered but mata is being sold by thousands. is a hit (4 points) justified in removing mata for the likes of a gerrard who has a dgw silva who has 3 dgws to come.

United have not been great and mata has been played out of position. There was even talk on sky from Gary neville of potentially leaving out mata for some games.

with rvp potentially sidelined could we see mata deployed behind rooney?

Is there an indication that Sturridge may regress given the new formation? It seems that he's no longer playing slightly ahead of Suarez and given his selfish nature (not an insult) he seems to thrive getting a good deal of support from Suarez playing behind him.

Oh and is Lukaku in any way worth it? It seems injuries are the only thing that make him worth keeping in the team, is it down to "bad luck" or is because he's in a team full of young attacking talent? Perhaps we need to stop only looking at fixtures and "form" and study the selfishness of players that support the strikers?

My question is: do bachelors(/ettes) have a natural advantage over "attached" men and women?

I have to bargain with my wife for every match I want to see. I just hate how they place the Saturday during dinner time (or at least cooking for dinner time). Sweden is one hour after UK so they start at 4 here.

I would imagine singles have a natural advantage in that they can see any match they want during the weekend.

Silva (11 GWs) or Hazard (8 GWs)

Considering how Suaz looks good enough captaincy option week in week out, is it worth going Silva over Hazaar?

Even if Silva gets 5 PPG, Hazaar would need 7-8 PPG to match that for a higher price.
Chelsea typically win by solid defensive performances while City will often need lots of goals to win games.

I think it's worth the risk personally.

Put it this way I'm considering ditching him for a hit and he has a DGW, that's how low his stock is.

I already have Yaya and wouldn't actually ditch Mata for a hit but the fact that I'm even considering it shows just how low Mata is thought of. I'm ditching him post double though...just not the player I thought he was going to be.

I agree. Silva's ok and can be a steady stream of points, but don't be fooled by his goal - he is all about assists and the odd bonus. Goals is not his thing.

I agree, I've steered clear for a while. 3DGWs for a team with only the title to play for is incredibly attractive though, especially considering we will want to rid ourselves of Mata before 34.

I've made 3 changes (-8) to get 11 DGWers but the thought of another -4 for a player who HAS a DGW just seems wrong. already have Silva and Yaya so not really sure who I would go for anyway.

Gerrards penalties will dry up soon and so will his points.

downgrading snod to fund lallana to yaya is the obvious one but who? no one jumps out at me. maybe livermore. depends how much you want yaya really.

This is actually the scenario I'm on at the moment, with Livermore, This would allow me to play him over Bardsley, which imo is an upgrade. And I could get Snoddy straight back in next week.

Not feeling Nasri, but yeah it's an option also considering his dgw34

Livermore is more than likely going to get you 4 points from a DGW, and that's if he doesn't get booked. Haz could easily beat that even with just 1 game, so play him IMO.

Do you guys reckon I can catch up my ML leader? 57 points doable?

DGW will play a massive part obviously..

I think do depends on what diffrence in team and could take 1 or 2 good captains easily done

      Definitely can be caught.

It will be tricky, and gambles will need to taken in coming weeks if the gap doesn't get significantly smaller within the next couple of GWs.

My rival took 40 points on me in one week last week!! Easily doable - I'm still hopeful of making up a 90 point defecit

also Yaya has 2 DGWs while Sterling has one, I can't overlook that, switching between those 2 teams every 10 mins, currently going with the 2nd.

With Pienaarrrr out I'd go Coleman Sterling, since with Mirallas playing and hogging the ball like the selfish player he is then I think Baines advantage over Coleman is nulified. 1st choice just a bit more explosive IMO

Fantasy Golf picks for this week, Bay Hill

    Bubba, Ryan Moore,
    Rose, Mahan, Poulter,Z Johnson
    Na, McDowell

Tiger withdrew yesterday with a bad back.
unsure of the Poulter pick. Looking at Every or Bradley instead.

Currently have Studge Suarez and RVP. If RVP is ruled out of the West Ham game who should I bring in. I see a lot of you have Lukaku but I can afford Aguero if he's fit. Any others I should consider?

I've gone for Jelavic - he shoots almost every time he gets the ball and has two decent fixtures! Will give you about a billion in the bank to spend elsewhere too 😉

Other than Chester, are there any nailed on defenders for 3.9 or less?

    Baker for Villa perhaps?

A repeat question from the other day but i still can't decide... If you have an opinion i would be more than happy to hear it!

Should I bench A.Johnson, Chester or Kosc.

The general consensus was Kosc but i think a cleanie against Swansea is a good possibility and he generally gets a bonus or two when that happens.

Im leaning towards Johnson personally now but if im not going to play him in a dgw then when will I?

    Cheers for any responses fellas.

Play Hazard or Snodgrass? Remaining 10 are all DGW. Need to play one of these 2. I am actually leaning towards Snoddy! Thoughts?

Just had a quick glance at PlayOn for this week and it's actually possible to just pick the entire Man City team as currently predicted in the team news section here! I think I'll mix it up a bit more than that but I've definitely got the foundation of my team sorted already 🙂
