Robin van Persie fires United into the last eight of the Champions League before being stretchered off against Olympiacos. Emmanuel Adebayor is an injury concern once again for Tottenham, Michael Turner is closing in on a Norwich comeback, whilst Craig Dawson is looking to nail down a starting berth for the Baggies:

VAN PERSIE TREBLE INSPIRES UNITED

David Moyes made four changes from Sunday’s embarrassing home defeat to Liverpool for last night’s Champions League showdown with Olympiacos, with Rio Ferdinand, Antonio Valencia, Danny Welbeck and the evergreen Ryan Giggs introduced to the starting line-up. Giggs repaid his manager’s faith with a controlling display in midfield, whilst it was under-fire Robin van Persie who was the hero on the night, bagging a hat-trick to send United through to the quarter-finals.

Van Persie was, however, worryingly stretchered off in the final minutes of the game, though Moyes has quickly played down fears of a serious injury to his star striker:

“I don’t think he’s too bad. He’s got a knock just behind his knee. We’ll know more in the morning.”

The Scout Says: United’s turbulent form continues, as does the fortunes of the most expensive player in Fantasy Premier League. Since returning from injury in Gameweek 23, Van Persie has ticked along with four goals, an assist and four bonus points in the last seven fixtures, hardly justifying his super-sized price tag. He, Moyes and his Fantasy owners will be desperate for last night’s salvo to kick-start his season, with the Dutchman’s contribution against the Greek side perhaps bringing him back into consideration for some. His performance last night certainly serves a timely reminder of his capabilities and sheer points power prior to a double Gameweek for United, and further news of the extent of his injury will thus be anxiously awaited by many.

DAWSON AIMS TO STAKE A CLAIM

West Brom centre-back Craig Dawson has talked up the ‘massive opportunity’’ offered to him by Jonas Olsson’s two game suspension as the ideal chance to prove his worth for his side. Dawson made only his fourth Premier League start for the Baggies in last weekend’s victory over Swansea, and the young Englishman – speaking in an interview with the club’s website – is now relishing the thought of retaining a regular starting berth in West Brom’s rearguard.

The Scout Says: With Hull, Cardiff and Norwich to face in the next three fixtures, Dawson’s wishes may well come true. The Baggies haven’t kept a clean sheet since the start of January but, on the back of Pepe Mel’s first win in charge and their upcoming schedule, Dawson, at just 3.9, could be primed to prove himself to both Mel and bargain-hunting Fantasy managers. Even upon Olsson’s return, Dawson could still retain his starting berth if his manager keeps faith in the 3-5-2 formation successfully rolled out against Swansea last Saturday.

TURNER READY FOR COMEBACK

Norwich defender Michael Turner has finally overcome a hamstring injury and completed 45 minutes of Under-21s football earlier this week. The centre-back is now looking forward to his imminent return to the Canaries’ first team, but is aware of the competition for places in the backline:

“There are good defenders in our squad – there will be four fit centre-halves now so there is going to be good competition for places, so whoever plays is going to have to perform to keep the shirt.”

The Scout Says: An ever-present for Norwich for the opening third of the season, Turner’s comeback looks set to give Chris Hughton plenty to mull over in the heart of his defence. Joseph Yobo has played every minute for the Canaries since signing in January, but his spot could well come under threat from the 4.1-priced Turner once he is back to full fitness. A decent short-term fixture list lies ahead for his side (SUN, swa, WBA, ful) before the schedule takes a severe turn for the worse – if Norwich are to avoid relegation then the next four games may well be key, and Turner could have an important part to play in ensuring the Canaries’ survival.

Injury Headache for Sherwood

Tottenham’s hopes of overcoming a 3-1 first leg Europa League defeat against Benfica were dealt a blow yesterday after a number of first-team players were omitted from the trip to Portugal through injury. Emmanuel Adebayor, Paulinho, Younes Kaboul, Hugo Lloris and Kyle Walker were amongst the names left behind in London as Tim Sherwood attempt to arrest a run of three straight defeats.

The Scout Says: Adebayor’s injury will be the main concern for Fantasy managers ahead of Sunday’s home game against Southampton. The Togo international was a doubt heading into last week’s clash with Arsenal and is struggling with hamstring and heel problems according to the club’s official website. Sherwood is doing all he can to protect the forward but Fantasy managers have clearly made their minds up – with a run of one assist in four appearances and a lack of a double Gameweek, he’s been shipped out by nearly 60,000 already this week and has dropped 0.4 in price over the last two weeks.

Anyone know what the story is with the automatic substitutions in the UCL fantasy football?

They've not been done yet as far as I can tell...

Have to say, De Gea has really earned his keep this season. Still the odd mistake (he is only young and every GK makes mistakes) but he's been outstanding in my view.

Unfortunately I have both Januzaj (rotation risk) and Smalling (injured) in my team for the DGW.

Should i play them in the hope that they will get some game time OR bench them and play:

    Cahill for smalling
    Snoddy for Januzaj

I think Janu could be safe enough.

If Smalling is out then he'll miss West Ham and be back for City, do you really reckon that's appealing? To be honest I'd probably bench him regardless of the double. If he keeps a CS at West Ham he could wind up on negative points against City...

I can't really understand why people brought Mata into their teams to begin with? Remember when he first joined, this place erupted with delight. Great player but he didn't play much at Chelsea and had no form. Same with Zaha, people talked him up and he has hardly played.

Seems like I am boring FPL player that goes with form over everything else, even if Ronaldo joined City in January I would probably wait a match or two and see how he does before getting him in.

When the games first got cancelled, I thought I would be rewarded for keeping my WC for late season DGW's but it seems to me that teams that haven't even prepared for doubles, never mind those who did, have at least 7-8 DGWers.

I knew the effect of my WC would be diluted but didn't think it would be quite this bad.

I did it last GW, so gave me 10-15 points extra then and an extra 2-3 DGWers this one.

No point in waiting, all the teams with a double in the future have one this week as well, so people already have some of their players and can use FT's to get more ahead of GW34 and GW37.

Wow...Nolan's home record is sensational. Ridiculous goal conversion rate. Surely he can't keep it up?

Over his last six home games he's got 52 points. That's a ppg of 8.66.

So if you say swapped for Mata that would be

Mata - probably 5 pts tops.
Nolan 15 minimum, take away 4 for a hit...that leaves you at least six pts better off. Plus with 2.4m or so in the bank.

3rd place in ML was decided by Nolan. Guy in 4th battered guy in 3rd with every player, but guy in 3rd brought in and captained Nolan and kept hold of the spot with that alone

He's done well recently but where was the bandwagon when we seemingly couldn't hit a barn door? Nolan seems to drift through games and has been the subject of vitriol from supports in the past due to his abject displays. My advice is to pick up Nolan only when Carroll is fit ie presently. Any sign that Carroll is out, then he's not worth the punt in my opinion.

Nolan is the ultimate flat-track bully. Last season he didn't score a single goal against teams in the top half of the table. And he has some tough fixtures to come.

But his partnership with Andy Carroll could make a difference. When they were both at Newcastle, the combination was so effective that Liverpool were persuaded to fork out 35m for Carroll's goals.

    Mannone
    Coleman Chester Kolarov
    Silva Gerrard Nolan hazard
    Suarez Jelavic Sturridge

I know it looks pretty standard but only leading my ml by 19 points and know my rivals need to take some hits to get DGW players

I've had a look at the defensive records for each team this season. I did something similar to this earlier in the season but I think with this double gameweek it could be of use to do it again, sorry for the long post in advance.

Here's the overall, the stat I've used is % of matches they have kept a cleansheet in. I've done this to be far on all teams as some teams have played more games than others:

    West Ham - 44.83%
    Arsenal - 43.33%
    Chelsea - 43.33%
    Man City - 40.74%
    Tottenham - 40.00%
    Southampton - 36.67%
    Everton - 35.71%
    Man Utd - 34.48%
    Norwich - 33.33%
    Liverpool - 31.03%
    Sunderland - 29.63%
    Villa - 27.59%
    Palace - 27.59%
    Hull - 27.59%
    Newcastle - 27.59%
    Swansea - 24.14%
    Stoke - 23.33%
    Cardiff - 20.00%
    West Brom - 17.24%
    Fulham - 13.33%

Next here's the Home CS percentages:

    Arsenal - 60.00%
    Man City - 53.85%
    Chelsea - 46.67%
    Norwich - 46.67%
    Tottenham - 46.67%
    Everton - 42.86%
    West Ham - 42.86%
    Hull - 40.00%
    Liverpool - 35.71%
    Man Utd - 35.71%
    Palace - 33.33%
    Southampton - 33.33%
    Stoke - 33.33%
    Swansea - 33.33%
    Newcastle - 28.57%
    Sunderland - 28.57%
    Cardiff - 26.67%
    Villa - 20.00%
    Fulham - 20.00%
    West Brom - 20.00%

    Here's the Away CS percentages:

    West Ham - 46.67%
    Chelsea - 40.00%
    Southampton - 40.00%
    Villa - 35.71%
    Man Utd - 33.33%
    Tottenham - 33.33%
    Sunderland - 30.77%
    Everton - 28.57%
    Man City - 28.57%
    Arsenal - 26.67%
    Liverpool - 26.67%
    Newcastle - 26.67%
    Palace - 21.43%
    Norwich - 20.00%
    Hull - 14.29%
    Swansea - 14.29%
    West Brom - 14.29%
    Cardiff - 13.33%
    Stoke - 13.33%
    Fulham - 6.67%

Finally I've looked at each teams fixtures this week and combined their Home and Away stats (fixture dependant) to kind of rank the teams by which defenders you want to have/start:

    Arsenal
    West Ham
    Man City
    Everton
    Man Utd
    Liverpool
    Sunderland
    Newcastle
    Hull City
    Swansea
    Chelsea
