The weekendโs nine fixtures seemed to have made a minimal impact on the treatment rooms up and down the country. With this in mind, we roll out an injury and suspension all-in-one update ahead of tonightโs Emirates clash between Arsenal and Newcastle:
Injuries
Aston Villa
Leandro Bacuna was withdrawn at half-time in the weekend loss at Swansea due to illness, Paul Lambert has confirmed.
Everton
Roberto Martinez confirmed Leighton Baines was subbed off towards the end of Saturdayโs loss at Southampton:
“We will assess Leighton Baines and see if it’s a serious injury or not. He was feeling his knee and his calf a little bit, we will assess him but it shouldn’t be too bad”.
Fulham
Steve Sidwell was forced off with a knock during Saturdayโs draw with Hull, according to the clubโs official website.
Newcastle
Luuk de Jong has been ruled out of this eveningโs trip to the Emirates with an ankle problem picked up during last weekโs loss to Swansea.
Swansea
Angel Rangel was subbed off during the weekend win over Villa after picking up an injury late in the second-half.
West Brom
The Baggies right-back Steven Reid lasted less than 45 minutes of the weekend win over West Ham before limping off due to injury.
West Ham
James Tomkins was forced off just after the half-hour mark of Saturdayโs 1-0 defeat at the Hawthorns through injury.
Suspensions
Chelseaโs Ramires was handed a four-match ban last week after accepting the FAโs charge of violent conduct for an off-the-ball incident during the Gameweek 35 home loss to Sunderland. The Brazilian was sidelined for yesterdayโs trip to Anfield and will also miss the upcoming games against Norwich and Cardiff, in addition to the opening fixture of the 2014/15 campaign.
Stoke skipper Ryan Shawcross is set to serve a one-match ban this weekend after he was dismissed against Spurs at the weekend. The Potters skipper, who received two yellow cards in the 1-0 loss, misses a home clash against Fulham, with Marc Muniesa likely to partner Marc Wilson at the heart of defence, allowing Erik Pieters to return to the starting XI at left-back.
Cardiff centre-half Juan Cala will sit out this weekendโs trip to Newcastle after being dismissed for denying a goalscoring opportunity during yesterdayโs 4-0 loss at Sunderland. The Spaniard returns in time for the Gameweek 38 clash with Chelsea as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer attempts to stave off the threat of relegation.
Jordan Henderson serves the last of a three-match ban this weekend as Liverpool look to bounce back from Sundayโs loss to Chelsea with a tricky trip to Selhurst Park.
