Cesc Fabregas grabs a pair of assists as Chelsea overcome Burnley 3-1 at Turf Moor. Diego Costa nets on his league debut, while Branislav Ivanovic and Andre Schurrle are also amongst the goals as the Blues get off to an impressive start.

Chelsea New Boys Dazzle in Burnley Destruction
Positioned in the Blues double-pivot alongside Nemanja Matic, Cesc Fabregas showed that, despite a deep-lying role, he looks poised to play a major part in our Fantasy seasons. The Spaniard pulled the strings for Jose Mourinho’s side in an outstanding first-half display that harvested a pair of assists and the maximum bonus points as he overshadowed the pricier Eden Hazard in the Chelsea midfield.

Up front, Diego Costa continued the momentum that saw him score four times over the summer friendlies. Drafted in by 37% of FPL managers prior to the weekend, the former Atletico Madrid man was second only to Wayne Rooney in last week’s Captain Poll and his predatory instincts will surely persuade more to invest as Mourinho’s men welcome Leicester, Swansea and Villa to the Bridge in the next five.

Schurrle Stakes a Claim
The German’s excellent strike also brings him onto radars as a potential mid-price option. Coming in at just 7.5, Schurrle scored eight times in just over 1400 minutes last season, with an average of 176.4 minutes per goal quicker than any Chelsea player – currently sitting in just 6% of FPL sides, he looks a real prospect if he can retain the role on the right of the attacking midfield three.

Luis and Cech Warm the Blues Bench
Mourinho started last season’s back-four for the Burnley clash as new signing Filipe Luis was named amongst the substitutes, with Cesar Azpilicueta and Branislav Ivanovic fielded as full-backs. Clearly, though, the new boy won’t be expected to sit on the bench every week and it may not be for a number of matches before we get a clear idea of Mourinho’s intentions – there seems little conclusions can be made on last night’s team sheet. Thibaut Courtois got the nod ahead of Petr Cech for the number one jersey, though before the match, the Blues boss added further uncertainty to the situation by stating:

“Thibaut is my number one tonight against Burnley. I don’t make decisions for the season; I make decisions for a match.”

Arfield’s Budget Appeal
The Clarets man was one of only three budget midfielders to get amongst the goals this week, along with Ki Sung-Yeung and Lee Cattermole. Having netted eight times in last year’s Championship, Arfield carries the main scoring threat in the centre of the park in Sean Dyche’s side and, after proving his capabilities against a side that chalked up 18 clean sheets last season, could come into contention as a cheap fifth midfield option.

Arsenal have champions league this week, would be wise to wait for that before making any transfers. If Ramsey injures himself then Mata to Fabregas today would look very stupid

It would be a lesson, but it's not cool for me to wish injury on someone. So instead, I hope that Sanchez scores a hatty. I don't own him, but I also haven't made any transfers.

so with gibbs confirmed out for 2 - 3 weeks looks like monreal is a cheap option into Arsenal's back four or could chambers play there when mert is back..

    GW2?

    Begovic (Elliot)

    Terry, Clyne, Debuchey (Coloccini, Caulker)

Mata, Fabregas (C), Siggy, Ramsey (Marney)

    Costa (VC), Rooney, Bojan

I'm not sure about the last defence spot (Debuchey, Colo or Caulker), I don't expect any of them will keep a clean sheet...

Also, my knee is seriously jerking to take -4 for mata>sterling with the incoming price fall/rise, I'm going to stay strong though (hopefully) I didn't buy mata for 1 game...

    Clyne (WBA, home)
    Debuchy (Everton, away)
    Taylor (burnley, home)
    Chester (stoke, home)
    Austin (Tottenham, away)

Choose three. I'm thinking Austin, Clyne and debuchy (Taylor subbed off early in Man U game... Dropping Chester is hard though)

Early Bird cup spreadsheet has been updated with GW1 results and updated table standings.

Congrats to Luchogonzalez (http://fantasy.premierleague.com/entry/633684/history/) with a very impressive score of 80, the best of all 32 teams.

    GW2 Team:

    Begovic
    Caulker Terry Naylor
    Ramsey Fabregas Siggy Young
    Sturridge Costa Rooney

    Gilks Chambers Marney Wisdom

Used my FT to bring in Siggy for Hendo, but now I'm also thinking of -8 for Young->Sterling & Sturridge->Dzeko coz. Seems like a sideways move but the forthcoming price rise of Sterling and fall of Young is annoying me. Advice? Thanks.

Also, should I start Caulker next week, against Tottenham, or Chambers against Everton? I'm currently leaning towards Caulker for goal threat.

IMO not worth -8 when Liverpool are playing Man City this week as unlikely to be a goal fest.

I would wait until after Arsenal's CL game before doing anything (if at all). You've got 2 Arsenal players in there and they may both get crocked in a tough tie.

How crazy is it to keep Haz and Costa in the team and still WC to get in Fab before the price rise? My idea is that Mata will drop and Fab rise. The week after i put Mata in for Fab making possibly 0.4 or so on the differnce between the two 🙂

Eriksen needs to play for you GW2, period. Quality player - we've picked him for a reason! (hopefully).

      B) is debatable. I'm not really convinced, that getting rid of your players after one GW is the right choice. Still - if you will wait longer, getting Fab will be harder and harder. So it's totally up to you. Leaving aside how miserable Manchester looked at Saturday, Mata is still a good player. For all it's worth maybe we should wait and see how will he link with RVP in their second game of the season.

      So c) for me.

    Debuchy chambers jones

    Mata siggs hazard Ramsey

    Costa Jovetic Rooney

I know I probably need to think about getting Jovetic out, but I'm thinking of waiting for 2 transfers as I may need some cash from somewhere.
When I do take him out who should I go for, I thought Remy look good at the weekend but unsure about how well QPR will do?
