Cesc Fabregas grabs a pair of assists as Chelsea overcome Burnley 3-1 at Turf Moor. Diego Costa nets on his league debut, while Branislav Ivanovic and Andre Schurrle are also amongst the goals as the Blues get off to an impressive start.

Chelsea New Boys Dazzle in Burnley Destruction
Positioned in the Blues double-pivot alongside Nemanja Matic, Cesc Fabregas showed that, despite a deep-lying role, he looks poised to play a major part in our Fantasy seasons. The Spaniard pulled the strings for Jose Mourinho’s side in an outstanding first-half display that harvested a pair of assists and the maximum bonus points as he overshadowed the pricier Eden Hazard in the Chelsea midfield.

Up front, Diego Costa continued the momentum that saw him score four times over the summer friendlies. Drafted in by 37% of FPL managers prior to the weekend, the former Atletico Madrid man was second only to Wayne Rooney in last week’s Captain Poll and his predatory instincts will surely persuade more to invest as Mourinho’s men welcome Leicester, Swansea and Villa to the Bridge in the next five.

Schurrle Stakes a Claim
The German’s excellent strike also brings him onto radars as a potential mid-price option. Coming in at just 7.5, Schurrle scored eight times in just over 1400 minutes last season, with an average of 176.4 minutes per goal quicker than any Chelsea player – currently sitting in just 6% of FPL sides, he looks a real prospect if he can retain the role on the right of the attacking midfield three.

Luis and Cech Warm the Blues Bench
Mourinho started last season’s back-four for the Burnley clash as new signing Filipe Luis was named amongst the substitutes, with Cesar Azpilicueta and Branislav Ivanovic fielded as full-backs. Clearly, though, the new boy won’t be expected to sit on the bench every week and it may not be for a number of matches before we get a clear idea of Mourinho’s intentions – there seems little conclusions can be made on last night’s team sheet. Thibaut Courtois got the nod ahead of Petr Cech for the number one jersey, though before the match, the Blues boss added further uncertainty to the situation by stating:

“Thibaut is my number one tonight against Burnley. I don’t make decisions for the season; I make decisions for a match.”

Arfield’s Budget Appeal
The Clarets man was one of only three budget midfielders to get amongst the goals this week, along with Ki Sung-Yeung and Lee Cattermole. Having netted eight times in last year’s Championship, Arfield carries the main scoring threat in the centre of the park in Sean Dyche’s side and, after proving his capabilities against a side that chalked up 18 clean sheets last season, could come into contention as a cheap fifth midfield option.

Anybody wanting a real diff could do worse than the fifth on this table...check out his shots/touches in the box...normal service about to be resumed against the team who conceded most chances in the box in GW1....http://members.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/my-stats-tables/view/4386/

Here is my logic for mata- cesc
Got one transfer, was going to use it to bring in better defender for this week, such as clyne.
Thinking that at best I will get 6-7 points , at worst 1-2
Doing cesc move will not only give me better chance of scoring points it will also bring in some cash.
Would likely bring mata back in week or two later.

    Make sense?

The first week is always a lottery so of course those who don't have the point scoring players will be jittery.

GW2 will probably see Mata, Sanchez, Eriksen and Giroud all get hauls so stop panicking.

I reckon Rooney and Agüero are the two to have up top, neither have sufficient midfield options(in my opinion) to rival them, whereas Sturridge has Sterling, who could easily score similar given that he plays in the Suárez role of last season. Diego Costa also has competition from Hazard & Fábregas as the best Chelsea option.

Hmm I see the appeal but surely having a CHE defender with their fixtures and back line is a must. Clyne did well but he was the only Southampton defender to get over a point, in addition it was his slack marking that led to Liverpool's second goal.

Just wanted to share my thoughts on the fab vs hazard debate.
The stats show that Feb is involved everywhere. Consistant he will be. Lots of assists. However what I also saw during the match is that hazard isn't far from being lethal. He will bring goals. He will have huge weeks and then everyone will want hazard.
In conclution I think that fab is a great buy and will get consistent points. Hazard will be more patchy but score big on occasion

      Agree
Can't see much difference in total points at end of season
But the 1.5 mill difference could help a lot elsewhere

Hazard also had no efforts but looked lively enough. Did you watch the game? Fabregas was at the heart of everything they did, and looks likely to pick up a number of assists at the very least

His goal scoring record is decent, but not fantastic in recent years. Assists are another thing however. He averages just over a goal or assist every other game, and that can only improve with the current Chelsea team.

Doesn't matter where to points come from, as long as they are there.

stick with him - should get points against qpr at home...after the Liverpool game they have two more fairly easy fixtures too

yeah that's my thinking - I learnt from Ramsey last year not to ignore form too much so I'll err on the side on conservatism and keep my trade. I would have won some serious cash in mini-leagues (for my poor student standards anyway) last season if it wasn't for a couple of hits I took!
