Our Saturday morning regular brings a trio of favourably priced midfielders for your perusal. While Gylfi Sigurdsson’s display at Old Trafford has persuaded over 300,000 Fantasy managers to invest, our three options have remained firmly under the radar.

James Ward-Prowse

A role on the right of the Southampton front three brings the youngster into consideration as Ronald Koeman prepares for his first home match at the helm. Available for just 5.0 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL), Ward-Prowse welcomes West Brom to St Mary’s with his manager’s praise ringing in his ears as the Saints look to bounce back from last week’s narrow loss at Liverpool.

Koeman could be set to restructure in order to accommodate Shane Long but, as mentioned in the Big Numbers article from Gameweek 1, Southampton produced more crosses than any other side in the opening weekend and are clearly looking to utilise the aerial abilities of Graziano Pelle up top. Along with Dusan Tadic, Ward-Prowse’s delivery from the flank look a key weapon for the St Mary’s outfit and with a 34.6% cross success rate last season, his accuracy could bring in the assists if Pelle can find his goal touch.

The Saints upcoming schedule bodes well for further returns – Koeman’s men face just one of last season’s top eight in the next 11 Gameweeks and if Ward-Prowse can retain a starting berth, could be a real value option in our five-man midfields.

Yannick Bolasie

The Palace wide man had the unwanted distinction of firing the more attempts on goal without finding the net in 2013/14. Bolasie produced 48 shots without reward in the season gone by – put into perspective, that’s just one less than both Jordan Henderson and Christian Eriksen and on a par with Samir Nasri.

Crucially, not all of those efforts were pot shots from distance. The winger registered 31 attempts from inside the box but was denied time and time as Jason Puncheon hogged the headlines on the opposite flank but with the latter sidelined through suspension for the home clash against West Ham tomorrow, Bolasie is afforded the chance to shine.

Looking beyond the Hammers encounter, Palace also welcome promoted pair Burnley and Leicester to Selhurst Park in the next five and with a trip to Newcastle also on their short-term agenda, the 5.5-priced Bolasie could yet turn those statistics into Fantasy returns.

Aiden McGeady

Another option in the budget midfield bracket, the Republic of Ireland international arrives on our radars after an impressive start to the new campaign. Handed a role on the Toffees’ right, McGeady grabbed a goal in last Saturday’s 2-2 draw at Leicester and fired four attempts from inside the box – more than any midfielder in the Gameweek.

With Ross Barkley looking poised for an extended spell on the sidelines, McGeady could be set for a more prominent role for the Merseysiders this season and certainly has his manager’s backing. Only this week, Martinez went on record as saying “I haven’t seen such a talented footballer for a long, long time” in reference to McGeady and with the likes of Romelu Lukaku and Kevin Mirallas still easing their way back to match sharpness after an extended summer break, the former Celtic wide man has quickly grabbed his chance.

Granted, the fixtures are hardly straightforward right now, with Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool in the next five. Last year’s wins over the likes of United, Chelsea and Arsenal showed that Everton are more than capable of prevailing and, at 5.5 in FPL, McGeady’s form is certainly worth considering.

Not a Rooney captainer, but if your gut has been telling you all week to go Rooney, stick with it. Just because Costa is playing a promoted club, doesn't mean he's going to do better than Rooney, a player with an extensive history in the league and a terrific goal scoring record in this league...hope this helps.

There's an entire article on the site listing the reasons why Costa is the superior choice this week.

And, one the key points is he is home to a promoted club while Rooney is away to Sunderland.

Another reason, outside of this article is the bookmakers have Costa as the odds on favourite as well.

Although, we should probably disregard all this information & go with Rooney because he's been playing in the league & scoring goals for sometime now...

Yes...and Costa hasn't. You're bang on. Costa was lucky to get anything last week, even against Burnley, whilst Rooney was involved in every goal scoring opportunity for United. Costa may have looked good on the ball and had good work rate, but it will take time for him to adjust to the league, and I take nothing away from how good a player he can potentially be for Chelsea, but I wouldn't be surprised if he started slowly this season.

Tell me more about how you know better than the statical break down here on the site...

Then, go on to tell me how the bookmakers are completely off as well.

Player Odds To Score 2 Or More:
            Costa +210 (21/10)
            Rooney +550 (11/2)

I mean even Hazard has better odds (4/1) than Rooney for a big score this week.

Now, please don't follow this up with *anything could happen* nonsense either...
The best play this week is a Chelsea player.
            That's it. That's all.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I respect yours and the FFS community's, not to mention bookmakers, who's livelihood it is to have a good understanding of what is the most likely scenario. But you have to respect that Siggymagic and I both have valid opinions as well, not to mention the other 8% of the FFS community that will be going into this gameweek with Rooney as their captain instead of Costa. It's not always as simple as "this is definitely what is best", because in a game as volatile as fantasy premier league, that is never the case.

I hope you're not too offended, but I can't stand for a monopolised captain choice in this game. Not even when Suarez was destroying teams week in week out last season.

No offence taken but, there's no reason I should give any credence to your opinion when there's so much evidence to the contrary.

Hey, after this week 8% of the players here may come out ahead by hitting an 11/2 shot with Rooney however, over 38 weeks I promise that taking Costa & his 21/10 odds puts me comfortably in the lead...

My brother went to the Leicester - Everton game. He said Leicester were woeful, almost in awe of Everton. If Everton had been more purposeful they would've hammered them. But that's Everton.

      Chelsea on the other hand...

I really wish that FPL would ditch the Captain incentive, every week it is agony trying to decided who gets the magic armband.

Having made a vow pre season to be more decisive I'm back to the same old problem, Hazard or Costa !

Costa says 50% of the community and he's scored 3 goals in last two games, so my head says safety in numbers if it is right or wrong.

Hazard is inconsistent but I've just got this gut feel, or is that a reaction to Fab doing great last Monday.

    Any thoughts?

First of all, ditching captains in this game would be just plain wrong. It adds another exciting dimension to the game, and for teams that don't need too much tinkering, it gives a lot of managers something to do from week to week.

It is always difficult to be decisive on a captain, but at this stage of the season where fantasy output is still unclear, there is nothing wrong with just trusting your gut, and if your gut is telling you Hazard, go for him. He played very well last week, and was undeniably unlucky not to get some attacking returns.
