Danny Welbeck notches twice as England get the better of Switzerland. David Silva is instrumental in Spain’s hammering of Macedonia, Stevan Jovetic picks up a hamstring problem in training for Montenegro, Jose Mourinho is happy with Chelsea’s new attacking approach, while United receive some mixed injury news ahead of the home encounter against QPR.

DANNY DOES THE DOUBLE

Arsenal’s new recruit Danny Welbeck scored both goals in England’s 2-0 win over Switzerland in their first Euro 2016 qualifier last night. The former Man United striker tucked home Raheem Sterling’s cross early in the second half before grabbing a late second courtesy of a Rickie Lambert assist.

The Scout Says: The 66,000 managers to have already gambled on Welbeck in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game since last week’s transfer will be buoyant after last night’s performance in Basel. The striker gave a clear response to those who claim he ‘can’t score goals’ with two excellently taken finishes, and now looks set for even more investment ahead of this weekend’s deadline. With Olivier Giroud out till the New Year, and Yaya Sanogo failing to find the net in 17 competitive matches for the Gunners, Arsene Wenger will be hoping that Welbeck can carry through his form from last night and finally provide him with a reliable forward option. Nonetheless, Arsenal have fixtures against Man City, Tottenham and Chelsea to come in their next four, meaning that Welbeck faces a tough task if he is to reward those who have opted for his services.

SILVA SHINES IN SPAIN TRIUMPH

David Silva earned a penalty, bagged one goal and assisted another as Spain ran out 5-1 victors over Macedonia in their first Euro qualifier.

The Scout Says: Having been outperformed by Yaya Toure in midfield for Man City last season, Silva probably didn’t receive the attention he deserved at the start of the current campaign. A goal in Gameweek 1 changed all that, though the talismanic Spaniard has still failed to surpass City’s forward assets for our attentions, with many turning to Sergio Aguero as fail-safe cover for the Blues’ attack. Last night’s showing demonstrates what the playmaker is capable of, however, and his efforts looks crucial for Manuel Pellegrini’s outfit in they are to overcome Arsenal and Chelsea in their next two fixtures.

JOVETIC INJURY CONFIRMED

Man City’s Stevan Jovetic returned from international duty with Montenegro yesterday with a hamstring injury sustained in training. The striker missed last night’s 2-0 win against Moldova for his national side, and is now a doubt for City’s trip to Arsenal this weekend.

The Scout Says: Jovetic’s two-goal showing against Liverpool in Gameweek 2 saw the Montenegrin rocket up our Watchlist, and subsequently earned the forward a starting spot alongside Sergio Aguero the following week, with Edin Dzeko having to make do with a second-half appearance from the bench in the 1-0 loss to Stoke. A prolonged absence for Jovetic will, however, bring the 8.5-priced Dzeko back into reckoning, and Manuel Pellegrini will now not only be reliant on Aguero keeping fit, but will also be praying that the Bosnian can rediscover the form that saw him notch an impressive 16 times in the league last season. Whilst the extent of Jovetic’s injury remains unconfirmed, managers with an itchy trigger finger, who are eyeing up alternatives aside from Dzeko, could consider freeing up some extra cash by switching to Welbeck. Alternatively, for those with budget to spare, Mario Balotelli, at 10.0 in FPL, could well prove to be as equally explosive a differential option if Daniel Sturridge is sidelined ahead of Liverpool’s four home fixtures in the next six.

MOURINHO IMPRESSED WITH ATTACK

Jose Mourinho has hailed the new attacking style which has seen his Chelsea side win all three of their Premier League matches so far this season:

“It’s a direction we tried to establish since the beginning of last season but our squad now is different. We have different qualities now in our players. The second season normally is a good season for a manager because you come from one season of work and you can choose a better direction you want to go and we feel comfortable and we feel happy the way we are doing things. Are we going to lose matches? Obviously, yes, but in this moment we are getting results and we are enjoying our style of play.”

The Scout Says: We need look no further than last Gameweek’s 6-3 victory over Everton as an indication that a new philosophy has been installed at Stamford Bridge. The Special One’s new initiative does not, however, bode too well from a defensive point of view, and Branislav Ivanovic’s 20.9% ownership may be reliant on the right-back adding to his tally of two goals and an assist if returns are to be reaped. On the other hand, Cesc Fabregas and Eden Hazard look set to continue to thrive in the Blues’ new ‘direction’, though it remains to be seen whether they will be without their target man for this weekend’s home clash with Swansea. Diego Costa is now reported to be undergoing further scans at Chelsea’s training ground after returning home early from international duty with a hamstring problem, though he is yet to be ruled out of the Stamford Bridge encounter.

MIXED INJURY NEWS FOR UNITED

Man United’s summer recruit Ander Herrera is back in training after recovering from an ankle knock and could give his side a timely boost by returning to action in this Sunday’s clash with QPR. United boss Louis van Gaal will, however, be less than happy to hear the news that Phil Jones limped off towards the closing stages of England’s win last night with a suspected hamstring injury.

The Scout Says: With Angel Di Maria, Daley Blind and Darren Fletcher all fit and available in the centre of the park for United, Herrera is by no means certain to make an instant return to the starting line-up on Sunday. That said, the Spaniard is sure to be a major component in Van Gaal’s side this season, and – once fully fit and refreshed – will be hopeful of nailing down a role in the middle, whether in a 3-4-1-2 or 4-3-3. The potential absence of Jones will be a major blow for the Red Devils, with the England international one of the few players to really impress thus far. The 4.5-priced Tyler Blackett’s run of starts could be set to continue then, though Van Gaal may now consider a switch to a back-four if Jones is indeed out of the frame.

Fantasy Football Scout Community Champion needed.

As you may have noticed we’ve revamped our Scout Picks. Mark, myself, Paul and a community champion picked by you each week are up against each other.

We are now looking for Gameweek 4’s Scout Picks Community Champion to represent you and get one over on The Scouts.

To put yourself forward simply add in your Gameweek 4 Scout Picks here. For everyone else please upvote the poster you would like to represent you based on their picks.

We only need 11 picks and please be mindful of budget. We are sticking to a budget of 83.5m. There’s no captain in the picks either. Also please stick to a designated FPL formation and a maximum of three players from one team.

I’ll leave this vote for 24 hours and come back at 10am tomorrow to find out who is the community’s choice.

Once selected I’ll need you to email me at jonty@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk with your final scout picks by Thursday 5pm at the latest. There is time to alter based on injuries on Friday daytime – just keep me updated by email. If your champion fails to submit their final team by this time then an assistant from our team of moderators and contributors will step in.

      Alright then..here are my picks.

      Begovic
      Ivanovic - Clyne - Moreno
      Sterling - Hazard - Ramsey - Puncheon
      Rooney - Balotelli - Naismith

The defense picks itself this week. All have got an easy home fixture.

Had to incorporate Naismith and Puncheon for budget constraints and those two are great picks this gw as well. But open to suggestions from the community on the budget options.

The rest of the midfield and attack consists of big hitters capable of huge hauls this week.

83m is the maximum XI you can have within a 100m budget - the rest goes on the bench.

We've upped it to 83.5m to take into account price rises.

Will look again to adding another 0.5m to the budget as prices rise over the coming weeks if 83.5m starts to seem too low.

The minimum bench cost at start of season was only 16.5 (one goalkeeper, 2 defenders and one midfielder or forward), provided you only played 3 at the back. It would be 17.0 for 4 at the back, or 14.5 for 5 at the back.

So the maximum cost of the starting XI would be 83.5, 83.0 or 82.5 depending on formation.

If you add 0.5 for price rises, that becomes 84.0, 83.5 or 83.0 depending on formation.

We go on the proviso that our final picks have a bench of a def, a forward and a mid.

So factoring that in it comes to 4m gk, 4m def, 4.5m mid (there are no 4m mids), 4.5m forward (no 4m forwards) which is 17m leaving a budget of 83m.

Defence with fixtures of LEI, WHU, SWA, AVL + attacking threat.

Midfield easy fixtures and all capable of goals/assists.

Rooney/Balo with QPR AVL and Abel Hernandez at home to West Ham because otherwise its boring like every other team 🙂

      Ivanovic // Baines // Chester
Moses // Fabregas // Di Maria // Mirallas
      Balotelli // Pelle // Adebayor

      Team Value: 81.5m

      Reasons:

      1. Bego: Against Leicester at home should get a CS
      2. Ivan: Great Form + Fixture
      3. Baines: I think he will get points this time
      4. Chester: At home should do good
      5. Moses: A punt...looked good against City...
      6. Fabregas: Form + Fixture
      7. Di Maria: Will be United's main guy..irrespective of whoever plays upfront.
      8. Mirallas: Played wonderful against Chelsea..will play good again!
      9. Balotelli: Will Definitely score after blanking the first match
      10. Pelle: Good Fixture can score
      11. Adebayor: Again good fixture and can score as well

      Sanchez/Fabregas/Sterling/Zaha
      Rooney/Pelle/Adebayor

      83.0 total

DEF is self-explanatory, all with good home fixtures. Will go with McGregor iso Bego - have the feeling he can get a CS vs. West Ham at home
Zaha another good option iso Punch, Sanchez getting into good form and more than capable of scoring, Fab and Sterling a must for me, and then going with Pelle (finding his form and good fixture), Adebayor (good fixture and always capable of scoring) and finally Rooney (to have Man Utd cover for excellent fixture vs. QPR

      Costa Falcao

3-5-2 might not be to everyone's tastes, but the front 7 all have a good chance of scoring well. Got a bit cheap at the back, not convinced Chelsea will keep a cleansheet so have gone for Hull at home to West Ham instead.

Sorry again - apparently there isn't a restriction on number of players per club after all.

Have the rules changed, or am I confusing it with something else?

      Begovic
      Ivanovic Moreno Clyne
      Hazard Sterling Ramsey Zaha
      Costa Naismith Balotelli

Begovic - At home to Leicester this week. After keeping a cleansheet against City away last weekend, I fully expect them to grab another this week.

Ivanovic - SWA - Really no explanation needed with this lad, been absolutely fantastic this season in terms of FPL with 2 goals and 1 Assists to his name and 2nd for Defenders Total Points

Moreno & Clyne - Both teams have strong defences and favourable fixtures - NEW and AVL

Hazard, Sterling and Zaha - All 3 have very favourable fixtures - SWA,AVL and BUR. All 3 have also come away with point hauls in the last GW.
Zaha came off the bench for a fantastic performance last weekend and has amazing stats. Also a potential OOP prospect. My punt for the team.

Costa started and scored a brace the last time he had an injury scare. Not going to take that risk again with SWA, and coming off a game where Chelsea scored 6 goals away from home.

Naismith is the cheap forward that just keeps giving this season, with 3 goals in 3. Fully expect him to continue this round with a good fixture in wba, also with the potential to play up front with Lukaku a doubt for the fixture.

Balotelli is now the main forward at Liverpool, with Sturridge an injury concern. Had quite a few chances last GW, and was unlucky to score. If he can be a bit more clinicla this GW against AVL, I'm sure he'll repay my faith in him.

Didn't get in early, but hope people still recognise my post 😉

      Begovic
      Chester / Cahill / Bertrand
      Hazard / Sterling / Tadic / Zaha
      Rooney / Costa / Balotelli

Defence is 'easy' this week, use the ticker...ignore problem teams (Palace, Liverpool).
Account for budget (not taken Ivan/Clyne). Done.

Midfield, we splash the extra 0.7 for Haz, because he's at home and just had a nice rest.
Sterling is an auto-pick. Tadic has good stats, I think this could be his week. Zaha is the budget choice for this week with Palace looking more attacking this year.

Fowards, three good teams, three good fixtures.
Not believing the latest Costa injury scare. Balotelli may well lead the line for liverpool this week and I think needs to be in here.

      £83.5
      There ya go.

    17. Warning Hazard ahead
      • 11 Years
      11 years, 8 months ago

Here goes nothing, going for a few differentials from the others this week:

      De Gea
      Ivanovic - Moreno - Pieters
      Sterling - Mane - Hazard - Zaha
      Adebayor - Balotelli - Rooney

De Gea (qpr) United defense has had its struggles but the Rs attack has looked the worst in the league thus far.

Ivan (swa) 50/50 for Chelsea keeping a clean sheet this week, predicting 3-1 or 2-0 with Ivan picking up at least an assist with the possibility of a cleanie or goal.
Moreno (avl) Similar attacking prowess to Ivan with a 70/30 chance of a clean sheet.
Pieters (lei) Surely if Stoke can keep a cleanie agt The Etihad they can shut Leicester out 😀

Sterling (avl) Predicting 2 assists, clean sheet and 2 bonus points for a 10+ point haul
Mane (new) Going against the Tadic trend here, a fixture which promises goals, this weeks scout report on Mane http://www.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/2014/09/07/scout-report-sadio-mane/ speaks wonders.
Hazard (swa) This should be the GW he flourishes in kicking off his belated bandwagon, would captain if he was in my team.
Zaha (bur) Picked on potential and budget this week. Impressed in the last GW, should start vs a defensively weak Burnley team.

Adebayor Balotelli Rooney ---> I've spoken enough, you can work these out for yourself, my last tip, Balotelli has scored 5 goals in his last 3 games against the Villains.

      Please comment and vote!!!

      THANK YOU 😀

First go at this, you gotta start somewhere.

      Mignolet
      Ivanovic-Clyne-Pieters
      Fabregas-Sterling-Di Maria-Tadic
      Costa-Balotelli-Naismith

First time doing this, looks solid to me.

      Begovic

      Ivanovic - Moreno - Chester

Sterling - Di Maria - Henderson - Fabregas

      Costa - Dzeko - Adebayor

      Total: 83.5

Little explanation of my choices: Begovic and Stoke got a great victory against City and they might be in for some CSs in the next few GWs.

Ivanovic needs no explanation since he is THE Chelsea defender of choice at the moment.

Moreno is a very interesting differential with good attacking threats and he's a good pick for the next fixtures.

Chester doesn't have the same attacking returns of Clyne but he allows you to have both Ivanovic and Moreno who are much bigger attacking threats than Clyne.

Sterling has very good fixtures coming up and he is the number one Liverpool player of choice.

Di Maria delivered three assists and one goal against Germany and he could be an assists machine for United, he just needs to adjust in the team. He could be a good differential and he could be the best United pick until the Falcao- Rooney -RVP situation becomes a little more clear. A game against QPR's defense could be the best occasion for him to deliver his first fantasy points.

Henderson is a not too risky double up on Liverpool's midfield but as already said, they have good fixtures coming up and he has already delivered two nice assists(priced at only 6.0).

Fabregas wouldn't be my choice(that would be Hazard) but he allows me to pick that interesting trio of forwards and he's still a great pick.

Costa like Ivanovic doesn't really need an explanation.

Dzeko might be punty for some people but with Jovetic injured he looks even more nailed on than before and we all know he's going to have to score at some point. I'm sure he could score against Arsenal and he's a great differential that gives you City cover.

Ade performs better against small teams and Sunderland is one of them. I don't think they're going to crash them but Ade is probably going to be involved in any of his team's goal scoring chances and will either score a goal or an assist at least. Plus, exactly like Dzeko, he's another good differential.

Bit of thought required here.....but do these moves look ok?

    1) If Costa and Jovetic are both confirmed fit to play
    = Sanchez & Bony -> Sterling & Costa (4 points)

    2) If Jovetic is fit, but Costa is unfit
    = Sanchez & Bony -> Sterling & Balotelli (4 points)

    3) If Costa is fit, but Jovetic is unfit
    = Ramsey/Sanchez, Jovetic & Bony ->
    a) Sterling, Costa & Welbeck (8 points), or
    b) Sterling, Balotelli & Adebayor/Dzeko (8 points)

nonesense, whats not fair is ajmal bowling teams out with his illegal action. he should be banned from county/club cricket aswell, what about all the teams he's bowled out this season for worcester? theyve pretty much cruised to the div2 title cos of his illegal bowling.

Is it just me or is Ramsey looking less and less like an FPL stalwart every time you see him play?

He's just seemed pretty ineffective and laboured from what I've seen of him lately

Is he well worth another GW's monitoring? Anyone else tempted to ship?

    I need some good advice.

Being a Sturridge owner, I don't intend to keep him with high price and good alternatives out there.

Intend to have Aguero latest by GW6 as that is when their good run starts, but GW4 and GW5 fixtures for City is tough.

Would you transfer in Balotelli just for GW4 and GW5, which is likely to cost 4 points?

    Already have Liverpool midfield coverage.

Tiote back for Newcastle...so...Does that mean a chance Sissoko goes in the hole and Cabella remains wide as oppose the conventional wisdom that Cabella get's moved central ?...Not half a good pick when he played in that position two years ago and coming in off a barnstormer performance for France...thoughts ? Sissoko often plays on the RW. I would expect Cabella to stay in the middle.

Yeah, he played on the right of a front three for France the other night. Cabella's best position is on the left though...by far...I'm not sure it's cut and dried.

Okay, it seems i made a fairly silly error when i made my early transfers and im thinking of how to fix it. I took a minus 4 to bring in Falcao and Sturridge... Pretty silly in retrospect. Ive ended up with

    Bego
Caulker, Van Aan, Jones, Clyne, Taylor
    Ramsey, Zaha, Sterling, Siggy, Albrighton
    Sturridge, Falcao, Costa.

Now, im thinking maybe taking another minus 4 to fix the sturrdige error and bring in Balo. But then i have Jones as an issue, and falcao might be a little early. Should i wc and fix myself up or should i just take the -4 extra and suck it up? Any suggestions would be most helpful guys. Would love to hold on to wc if i can but a terrible gameweek can ruin a season pretty quickly....

      -------Herrera/Oliver-Oliver/Ruben Neves-----
      -----Tello/Quaresma-Jackson-----Brahimi
Oliver is injured now,not sure how long. Brahimi 5.5 seems the best option, some set pieces, oop and great form.

If Sturridge is out, Coutinho could actually be the main benefactor. Either way think Balo is a big risk, when you have options like Gerrard and Henderson guaranteed to be consistent.

He will still be the main out and out striker without Sturridge, gets in good positions, I would be surprised if he was a flop.

I would assume so in place of Yoshida.
