Scout Notes

Scout Scribbles – McGeady at the Double

Aiden McGeady scores twice as the Republic of Ireland edge past Georgia. Theo Walcott is closing in on a return to action for Arsenal. Jordan Henderson is a doubt for England’s clash with Switzerland, Aleksandar Kolarov nets for Serbia, whilst West Ham’s new boy Enner Valencia also gets amongst the goals for Ecuador.

McGeady at the Double

The Everton wide man scored both goals for the Republic of Ireland in a 2-1 triumph over Georgia yesterday, while team-mates James McCarthy and Seamus Coleman picked up an assist apiece.

The Scout Says: McGeady’s display bodes well for his chances of retaining a starting role for the Toffees’ trip to West Brom next weekend. With Steven Pienaar sidelined due to a groin problem at home to Chelsea, McGeady returned to the first XI and picked up an assist in the 6-3 defeat – with a goal and assist over his two league starts so far, then, he’s been one of the Merseysiders’ most impressive performers thus far. If the South African remains sidelined for a prolonged period, the Republic of Ireland star could be handed greater pitch time by Roberto Martinez as Everton go in search of their first win of the season.

Walcott On Course for Return

Reports suggest the Gunners winger could be poised to return to action for the Gameweek 6 home encounter with Spurs on September 27.

The Scout Says: Sidelined since early January with a knee injury, Walcott’s loss was sorely felt by Arsene Wenger and Fantasy managers alike. The wide man grabbed five goals and four assists in just nine starts last term but, as we saw earlier in the 2013/14, the Gunners boss tends to ease Walcott into action with a series of sub appearances as he builds up his fitness. The same scenario looks likely – all the more so given that Wenger has the likes of Alexis Sanchez to field on the right until Walcott is fully fit, but there’s no doubt that once he’s up to scratch, he could be a major differential over the autumn. With the schedule turning kind for Arsenal from Gameweek 8 onwards, Walcott could offer an alternative to Aaron Ramsey or even a double-up option with the Welshman for our five-man midfields.

Valencia in the Goals

West Ham’s summer signing played 76 minutes of Ecuador’s 4-0 win over Bolivia yesterday and fired his side’s third goal before making way.

The Scout Says: Valencia has been eased into action by Sam Allardyce after a late start to pre-season training as a result of his World Cup duties. A couple of late sub appearances over the last couple of league matches has ensured he remains off our radars for now, though as his fitness builds up, it’s surely just a matter of time before he replaces Carlton Cole as the Hammers’ lone forward. With Liverpool, United and City in the next six, though, few Fantasy managers will be looking to the Upton Park outfit as a source of investment right now.

Kolarov Nets in Serbia Draw

The enigmatic City left-back reminded us all of his capabilities last night by firing home a 30-yard free-kick in Serbia’s 1-1 home stalemate with France.

The Scout Says: This is just typical of Kolarov. We handed him a place in the Scout Picks as City entertained Stoke last time around and he brought home just two points after the champions stumbled to a 1-0 home defeat. Tellingly, he was dropped for the Gameweek 2 clash against Liverpool, highlighting Manuel Pellegrini’s tendency to pick the defensively-minded Gael Clichy against trickier opponents – given that City square up to Arsenal and Chelsea in the next two, the Serbian may have to make do with bench-warming duties in spite of last night’s strike.

Henderson Concern for Reds

Reports suggest the Liverpool midfielder is a doubt for England’s match with Switzerland this evening after picking up an ankle problem in training.

The Scout Says: With question marks also surrounding the availability of Daniel Sturridge, it’s been an eventful international break for Brendan Rodgers. One of the first names on the Liverpool team sheet, Henderson missed only three matches last season as a result of suspension, and despite the fixtures coming thick and fast, his guaranteed pitch time means he looks immune to rotation. A possible period on the sidelines could allow Adam Lallana a route into the Reds’ first XI ahead of four favourable home matches in the next six, though with two assists in the first Gameweeks, Henderson’s 15% of Fantasy Premier League owners will be hoping he can quickly recover.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

    assuming sturrdige is out.

i can bench siggy or welbeck this week, then tadic, then welbeck - its not ideal - but on the bright side an injury does not force a transfer

Like the goalies, but I don't have the guts to do Schmeichel. I have Green.
Moreno and Bertrand are poor value, imho. Clyne and Shawcross would be my picks. I don't like Collocini either, this term, and am happy to gamble with Dummett ...
Fabregas is a worry, because at that price you really need goals. Lamela is lamentable, at best. Not having Ramsey is foolhardy, bordering on stupid. Sorry.

        some comments:

1 - green i had - you know that - but really worried he will lose his place soon after the new GK they bought for lots of money.
2 - dummet is really not a starter - can have a player that plays half of the games
3 - maybe clyne is better than bertrand - stats say no real difference but you might have a point - only that clyne is injured so frequently its a problem
4 - fab is a worry in terms of goals - but i have costa, and fab is such an assists and baps machine
5 - lamela is in for 2 games - then he is out for silva or walcot
6 - not having ramsey is hard, but having 2 arsenal with those fixtures is harder to justify IMO

as usual, thanks for the opinions - always good points

          1. What new goalkeeper?
          2. He brought Haidari in, and they immediately shipped three goals. Coincidence? I don't think so. Magpies, like Spurs, have a looong history of being blind about their own best players.
          3. Stats say that there is a HUGE difference, as does their Histories.

          http://members.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/my-stats-tables/view/1026/

          5. Why bother - get Schneiderlin.

          http://members.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/my-stats-tables/view/1373/

          6. I refer you to the midfield table again. This is a top attacker we are talking about. Fixtures more important for defenders.

hmmm, i thought thye brought in a guy from celtic or something - my bad i guess.
clyne stats are good thanks - might change - still worried about health.
no schneiderlin sorry - just too deep most games.
and ramsey - yes - a big risk - hopefully a calculated one - as i really want walcot soon after i ditch lamela in gw6.

it wasn't a convincing defensive performance imo and the 3 at the back system doesn't look like it has settled yet. always seems like there is a mistake around the corner. with no commanding CB brought in but lots of attacking talent I think United will score plenty but be leaky at the back imo

QPR have created the most chances of any team in the PL so far btw. think they will score against United

Stoke's fixtures.....mmm.....think I'd still rather Moreno over him. Think 'Pool have a better chance of cleanies tbh, and Moreno has decent attacking threat.

        Cheers

Too early for Everton defenders, I think, maybe get on a 'Pool defender for their good run of fixtures?

But shouldn't you be taking care of Schurrle, first?

Yeah, Moreno's probably the best option. He's the man I have in mind at the mo.

😆 Yes, I SHOULD be! Think I'll give him another week though......take a chance.....hoping he plays....Caulker off the bench if he doesn't. Very relaxed and punty approach to FPL this year. 🙂

Guys should I WC to this team??

    Krul - Elliot
Moreno - Clyne - Chester- Wilson - Moore
    Ramsey(Fab)- Sterling - Henderson - Sigurdsson - Marney
Rooney - Diego Costa - Agüero
    (0.7 ITB)

    My Current team is

    DDG - Gilks
    Debuchy - Cahill - Chester - Clyne - Dummet
    Siggy - Ramsey - Eriksen - Sterling - Marney
    Costa - Rooney - Fletcher
    (2.4 ITB) 0FT

If I don't WC, Should I take a hit to get in a player like Pelle? Or should I play 4-4-2 and start Debuchy instead and get rid of fletcher for free next GW? Thanks

What would you guys do with this team?

    Krul (Foster)
    Terry/Bardsley/Clyne (Caulker/Williams)
    Ramsey/Siggy/Sterling/Mata (Mutch)
    Rooney/Costa/Naismith

Thinking of just doing Mata to Fab and then WC after GW 4 depending on how the new guys play.

    Thoughts? Thanks 🙂

Doesn't look like you need to WC soon. Mata to Fab doesn't sound bad at all, maybe even save the transfer? You can make 2 changes next week after seeing the new guys.

As you no doubt know, many Premier League players and clubs are backing the #rainbowlaces campaign run by the UK charity Stonewall, which is aiming to get players to sport rainbow coloured football boot laces in an effort to raise awareness for the fight against homophobia in football.

It's time to get behind gay footballers (pun intended) and make it clear that homophobia doesn't belong in any footballing context, including on Fantasy Football Scout!

To show my support, I'll soon be changing my Gravatar to to the rainbow flag - a symbol for gay pride used to represent the LGBT rights movement. Join me and show your support for this campaign by incorporating the rainbow flag into your Gravatar. Those amongst us who are skilled with photo editing software can now doubt come up with some creative designs! For those who don't yet have a Gravatar, visit Gravatar.com.

You can also text LACES to 70300 to get a free pair of rainbow laces (UK only) to sport at your next Sunday league match. To help Stonewall to continue these kinds of campaigns, please consider visiting stonewall.org.uk and making a donation.

Not sure Garg. I would imagine that you can order them elsewhere and pay for them, but the website says UK only.

Maybe if you contact Stonewall directly via the website and offer to pay postage they could send you a pair?

Definitely thinking about it. What am unsure about is if to get him before his first game [a good performance hopefully translates to more managers transferring him and an eventual price hike] or play it safe and monitor his first game back.

Whether ARS play at home and who the opposition is when Wally makes his debut complete the factors I'll be looking at when deciding to draft him in my team.

That's also my plan but their CBs don't seem to be on the same page and that's a bit worrying. For 7M, I'd hope to at least be fairly confident of a CS in most games.

A bit of the long-shot but if Stones somehow establishes himself by then, might opt for him instead of the full-backs.

What's the latest view on the best time to plan to play your wildcard then?

Excluding having a team decimated by injuries/loss of form, presumably we are down to either:

    A) A juicy double gameweek, or

    B) When a number of team's fixtures change around the same time, e.g. in GW8 fixtures stiffen for MUN & CHE and ease for ARS & EVE

I'll either use it in an emergency (injuries/shite players etc. ) or for a double Gameweek.

    Bojan's last stand

'One of those' that started the season with the fabled Bojan / Siggy rotation plan, blowing up upon the very first day.

After rejecting the approaches of a budget-priced Scotsman, rejuvenated under a Spanish magician, keeping faith was the order of the day. It shouldn't have been.

With Siggy soon to face a potential points-haul run of fixtures, he heads into the Lions den, a notorious place in which to pick up away-points. Meanwhile, the Hobbits stunt-extra entertains an attack-minded, newly-promoted team at home, eager to concede. Injuries shrugged off, Odemwingie side-lined, and pre-season still just about in the memory. Bojan, do you not entertain?

He will become this year's Ramsey.

      Eventually.

Angel Di Maria YES or NO? I'm planning of getting him in and captaining him against QPR.

I captained Mata against Sunderland away when the template was Costa (C) and I got a tasty 20 points. I reckon ADM will explode, trusting my gut here! Unless, somebody can give me some cold hard stats on why I shouldn't go ADM (C), of course.

'Course if that's what your gut says then go with it! That's the way to play FPL tbh.

    3. Warning Hazard ahead

I'm going to wait and see how he and Falcao fare during the QPR game. Particularly with regards to Man U's formation and their fitting in of Roo, Falcao, RVP, Mata and ADM.

Good luck if you captain him, ballsy but I like it.

    Balotelli (c) anyone?

Sterling, he looks the winner from the signing of Mario

        Currently on Sterling.

but Balotelli. Playing up top solo. At home. In the limelight. Good stats last game.

        Tempted

Home debut and all that, agreed. Just think Mario is the perfect foil to create the space for Sterling to operate in

He's as explosive as any FPL player! I may do this if Costa is really actually confirmed injured for any period of time

Only four midfielders who started at 4.5 played all three matches so far.

    Marney (BUR)
    King (LEI)
    Jones (BUR)
    Cattermore (SUN) - now 4.6

Who is the best for a WC team? Don't like cattermore due to reputation as a yellow card magnet and he's the most pricey.

Maybe King. Leicester is more attacking side than Burnley. He might get cheeky goal or assist now and then. Most important for 5tn mid is that he is 100% starter.

Captain. Well rested and ready to explode. Too bad I don't have him 🙁 Otherwise I am confident in him being my captain this week.

Also he is against Rangel this week, the Rangel who is so attacking meaning more space for him

Keep playing him and hope he bags a hatty soon to justify continuing with him.

But seriously, everyone else seems to have Cesc so he's a more than suitable alternative IMO.
