With an eventful international break now over, we turn our attentions to Gameweek 4. The situations up front for United, Arsenal and Liverpool are all being closely monitored, while a couple of midfield options at Burnley and Palace also have the chance to persuade us of their budget potential.

The Falcao effect…
Let’s have no qualms, the capture of Radamel Falcao is nothing short of sensational but Fantasy managers aren’t alone in wondering just how Louis van Gaal will accommodate his goal-scoring talents. With Robin van Persie and Wayne Rooney yet to fire, Falcao’s arrival is expected to provide a catalyst for better things. QPR will turn up at Old Trafford to provide target practice for Van Gaal’s tri-force but, with United having disappointed so far, we can’t take anything for granted. We’ll be monitoring Falcao’s fitness, the formation and, in particular Rooney’s role. The United skipper has suffered heavy sales of late and, should he be deployed out wide to make room for Falcao, that trend would only be exacerbated.

McCarthy’s Budget appeal…
Alex McCarthy will be in the firing line and the scene is set for personal duel with Falcao. QPR laid out £6 million for the 24-year-old shot stopper, reason enough to suggest that he’ll be handed the jersey at Old Trafford and charged with the task of standing up to their waves of attacks. He has the talent to thrive – McCarthy demonstrated in his time in the top-flight with Reading that he is an incredible shot-stopper, capable of improbable saves. Intriguingly, he’s been added to the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) as a 4.0-priced prospect and therefore a start at United will automatically put him on the radar as the only active keeper in that bracket.

The Liverpool cast list…
With fixtures softening for Brendan Rodgers’ side, Fantasy managers have been setting their sights on acquiring at least one of his squad in anticipation of rich returns. Rodgers shifted to 4-3-1-2 for the win at Spurs, sacrificing the talents of Philippe Coutinho and deploying Raheem Sterling up behind the pace of Daniel Sturridge and Mario Balotelli – a fearsome attacking threat. With Sturridge ruled out for Saturday’s clash with Villa, it will be interesting to see if Rodgers tweaks that strategy. Coutinho will be backed for a return, with Sterling deployed almost alongside the Italian striker; alternatively, Rickie Lambert could be drafted in with the 4-3-1-2 retained.

At the back, we’ll be watching with keen interest to see if Liverpool can record back-to-back clean sheets. Dejan Lovren and Alberto Moreno will become prime targets if that’s the case; the latter has emerged as the favoured option having recorded over 90,000 transfers in off the back of his strike at the Lane.

Zaha off the leash…
Back in the comfort zone of Crystal Palace, Wilfried Zaha wasted no time announcing himself to his former supporters, striking the equaliser from the bench at Newcastle to earn Neil Warnock a precious point. With Marouane Chamakh ruled out, we’d expect Zaha to be given a starting berth for the visit of Burnley, a match-up which Warnock will surely be targeting as an essential three points. Zaha fired in four attempts at goal in his 28-minute appearance, registering seven touches in the Newcastle box – those numbers suggest he’ll blow away Jason Puncheon as a goal threat candidate should he be given regular pitch time. If he’s handed a role spearheading the Palace attack with Dwight Gayle, there’s surely huge potential on offer from a 5.4-priced FPL midfield option.

Boyd in the bargain basement…
Burnley have their own value option in midfield, with George Boyd perhaps poised to see off all-comers as a fifth midfielder candidate. Priced at just 4.4 in FPL, Boyd cost the Clarets £3 million and is surely earmarked as regular starter who could be handed an immediate debut at Selhurst Park. We’d back him to start wide on the left, perhaps at the expense of Matt Taylor and, in doing so, present a budget option that possess decent potential for occasional goal and assist returns, with set-plays also in his armoury. He scored twice and earned two assists in just nine starts for Hull last season – extrapolate that over 25+ starts for Burnley and Boyd would be a no-brainer for those looking to free-up funds with their fifth midfielder.

Welbeck takes centre stage…
Arsene Wenger will surely be rubbing his hands at the prospect of fielding Danny Welbeck, fresh from his two midweek strikes for England. Handed a central striker role by Roy Hodgson, he’ll slot into a similar position for the Gunners to replace the injured Olivier Giroud against City. The potential is huge and us Fantasy managers will surely be toying with his acquisition with an FPL price tag lingering at just 6.9. While it’s always difficult to see past a big spend across our three striker slots, Welbeck looks an option that’s difficult to ignore and, should he take his opportunities against the champions, he’s destined rival Diego Costa and Falcao as the big attacking bandwagons in weeks to come.

The Tigers’ new teeth…
It seemed unlikely that we’d be talking about an “array of attacking talent” in the same sentence as Hull City but, after a spectacular transfer deadline day, Steve Bruce suddenly has riches at his disposal. Aside from a likely debut for Abel Hernandez up front, we’re fascinated to see how Bruce uses both Hatem Ben Arfa and Gaston Ramirez. Unlike Hernandez, that pair of midfield talents have obvious potential to offer value if they are given the pitch time to showcase their ability to score goals and earn assists. Ben Arfa has frustrated us as a Fantasy asset for many seasons but, at just 5.8, he could yet turn our heads again. The mercurial Frenchman fired in an effort every 30 minutes for Newcastle last season, while Ramirez bettered that with an effort every 28 minutes. Those stats suggest that they should produce goals if regular starts come their way.

Mane’s Impact at St Mary’s…
Ronald Koeman’s deadline day signing arrives with an eye-catching record at former club Red Bull Salzburg. Mane bagged 45 goals and 32 assists in just 87 appearances in all competitions for the Austrian outfit, and while we’re not expecting a similar sort of output, the flying winger’s arrival could well see the Saints boss shake up his options in the final third. Mane’s blistering pace and keen eye for goal look key weapons for Southampton this season and he could be unleashed against the Magpies’ attacking right-back Daryl Janmaat, with Koeman affording Dusan Tadic the chance to tuck in behind Graziano Pelle against Alan Pardew’s side.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

My team at the moment, on a wild card.

    Krul, Eliott
Ivanovic, Clyne, Moreno ( Shawcross, Wisdom)
    Ramsey,Fabregas, Sterling,Zaha ( Siggy)
    Costa,Welbeck,Naismith

    3.7 itb.
team currently looks like this to avoid price drops and try to catch rises, huh!
I will probably drop one of Moreno or Shawcross for Moore giving me another 1.5.
The question is I cant decide who to drop between Naismith and Welbeck. May keep them both and upgrade later.
Also looking at Ramsey> Di Maria too?

If you "do" Ramsey - then for Sanchez imo . Di Maria great player that he is , is an assister primarily, Sanchez to get more goals , more points and more Bps .

    Got bottomed.

    Begovic Gilks
    Cahill Clyne Coloccini Kelly Wisdom
    Mata Ramsey Sigurdsson Ward-Prowse Marney
    Costa Sturridge Rooney

Thinking about doing the following for a -8, I'd like some opinions guys.

    Sturridge, Mata + Ward-Prowse > Welbeck, Sterling + Hazard/Fábregas.

Fair enough. Then just do Sturridge & Mata --> Sterling & Welbeck
That second part (JWP to Fab/Haz) isn't worth it because, as Lucy pointed out, JWP should start this week. Do that transfer for free next week, rather.

I have 2ft's this week, bringing in Sterling with one and considering Tadic for the other
Need to lose 2 out of these 3 mids,
A, Mata , best fixture this week, if he starts that is. Losing him could open the
the door to bring in ADM later.
B, Ramsey, injury doubt with some tricky fixtures coming up.
Could sell now and get Walcott when he returns
C, Eriksen, sun(a) WBA (H), hasn't produced yet but maybe on the verge of doing so
Have Ade also though ,so if Spurs fail so do I (as in last week)
    Thoughts appreciated ? 🙂

puncheon maybe, and use the savings elsewhere.
do think it's a good time to sell jovetic and mata, combination of 2 of the hardest 3 fixtures of the season on paper for jovetic in the next 2, plus the whole aguero, jovetic and dzeko into 2 spots weekly headache. and mata of course the potential mess he finds himself in with the deadline day signings

Yeah, want to see what the story is with Jovetic and Dzeko/Aguero, now is the best time to do it.

Can afford Tadic and Balo in for Jov and Mata but not sure I want to do it. Can also afford Henderson and Falcao which the more I think of it, the more I like.

It was all very comfortable before todays comments.

Ignoring the old fools mind games about not signing him if he'd been in the country, which is probably some nonsense about being able to actually sign him, undermining the United board with some 'if i'd been involved - they wouldn't have budged' notion due to childishness on a business sense: The worry still remains that he hasn't stated that he will play first team. he is assessing the squad.

Which to me suggests Welbeck is a guarantee and a start against man city could go anyway. I don't see goals. 0-0 in fact. And with europe midweek and tougher fixtures I'm abandoning arsenal altogether.

He was shooting at the door, from a lower position, hard to state he knew the person would be killed. He may have known that the person could be killed but that's different to absolute certainty especially in a situation like this. If the person was clear in his sites, absolutely, but he could not know that exactly where he was shooting would, 100%, kill the person behind the door.

That's not the definition of murder. If your intention is to kill someone, and you kill them, that's murder, regardless of the odds of the killing occurring.

Where did I say it was? And where did he say he intended to kill the person? He intended to shoot through the door, that does not in any way mean he intended to kill the person.

You have to prove, 100%, that the intent to murder was there. Shooting and killing are very different things, the simple counter argument that any defending lawyer will say is that he was shooting through the door to scare the "burglar", could not anticipate that he would be killed and therefore there was no intent but it was reckless.

if you shoot a gun through a door into a small room with someone in it you are more than likely trying to kill that person. thats pretty much the only reasonable conclusion. i dont think you can prove that 100% in any case like this but you shouldnt have to.

You cannot assume that, simply put.

The action is there, you are shooting through the door but you cannot claim that because of the size of the room that he was definitely trying to murder someone. It is tough to establish but the point is that an obstacle such as a door, in a situation where a man that has a physical disadvantage believes he is being broken into (and in my opinion suffers from a deep anxiety issue) means that it is extremely hard to say he knew exactly where he was shooting was going to kill someone.

If the door had been open? Different story, then he can see the person and shoot to kill.

Point is that just because it was certainly possibly that such an action could go wrong, that isn't the same as saying he knew with certainty that he was going to kill this person.

I'm just putting out the extent of what I know in cases like this.

He was shooting into a very confined space - The sequence of shots shows a very controlled action - the likeliehood of this action was DEATH Cmon !

Possibility and certainty are two entirely different things and you know it.

Counter argument from a defending lawyer, the sequence of shots were very controlled as he assumed that the area he was shooting would not hit the person. He did not shoot wildly but picked a certain region to shoot hoping to scare them off and do as little physical harm as possible. Not that that's what I necessarily believe at all but I'm just showing how defence can easily make a case to say it wasn't intentional killing.

Som - think you playing Devs advocate here . First shot was higher . Was assumed She then fell onto toilet , 2nd third and fourth shots in a controlled sequence followed her down .Agree though and despite my firm belief that the boy shot her in a moment of uncontrolled rage, that the state never proved this beyond doubt However for the Judge to state he was not trying to kill the "intruder" is just totally Absurd

Now and most absurd , she argues that he may have had no intention to kill ?? If you see the grouping of the bullets , fired into such a confined space - wtf theres only one outcome and thats certain death

I get your point but the judge did determine that the nature of the injuries and rapid shots would not have given her time to scream. Unless she screamed before the shots.

That's where the issues of his mental stability etc. come into play really. Would seem pretty sensible for us to assume that but for a guy with no legs living in SA where there is plenty of violent happenings, it is harder to appreciate unless in that situation. I think he has some really deep anxiety issues to be honest.

Very fair point of course and I take it certainly!

A bit of Devil's advocate certainly I think I'm just trying to show how many ways the defence can twist and turn it to make it very tough for the judge which is why I understood where she was going with it. But it's not necessarily what I believe!

Also 3 points in the league are more important. With the group that Chelsea have in UCL, they'll end up as the leaders no matter what

        From Stoke blog

"Hard to know what Hughes think. Most Stoke fans would probably prefer to see Huth renew his partnership with Shawcross that has served us well in the past, but given our style of play is evolving and we're starting to play out more from the back, he may continue with the more 'ball=playing' Wilson. Like I said, he will reward and keep faith in people who perform well, and it's Wilson's place to lose now I think.

I was planning on bringing him in, as he's looked great in the first few weeks. Very accurate with his delivery in open play or set pieces. However, with Mane coming into the team, JWP is too much of a risk to be either dropped back, or dropped altogether. So I'd suggest avoid.
