Our weekly analysis of the Captaincy contenders is rolled out once again this evening. As always, we take a three-part approach which includes the weekly poll standings, the Opta statistics and our Rate My Team projections to help steer your thoughts on the armband conundrum.

Captain Poll

Yet again, Diego Costa is the favourite heading into the weekend’s matches. A home clash with Arsenal refuses to deter his backers – the Spain international has scored in all three of his appearances at the Bridge and faces a Gunners defence with a single shut-out to their name all season.

Sergio Aguero runs him close, though. City’s star striker has earned a significant number of new owners this week due to the fall-out from Wayne Rooney’s three-match suspension and has received 21% of the votes cast to Costa’s 24%. Aguero’s strike at Hull was his fourth of the season and he now pays visit to a Villa side reeling from back-to-back 3-0 defeats to Arsenal and Chelsea. Edin Dzeko is backed by just 3% by comparison, despite outscoring Aguero by 13 points to eight in the KC win.

Leicester’s Leonardo Ulloa is also highly fancied. Like Costa, he’s netted in all three matches in front of his own fans – having grabbed goals against Everton, Arsenal and Man United at the King Power Stadium, he welcomes a Burnley side that shipped four against the Baggies last Sunday.

Three goals in five starts ensures Raheem Sterling remains on the radar as Liverpool attempt to rediscover the form that served up 100 goals last season. The teenager entertains West Brom this time round, but with the visitors chalking up consecutive shut-outs, just 11% are looking to hand him the armband. United’s home clash with Everton also sees Angel Di Maria (5%) and Radamel Falcao (4%) feature prominently, though just 1% have placed their faith in Robin van Persie, despite the Dutchman scoring in each of the last two Gameweeks.

    Balotelli OUT Aguero IN.
Sterling OUT one of Johnson/Mane/Chadli/Puncheon IN

    Worth a - 8?

I will more than likely captain Aguero.

I know it seems crazy, but I really don't fancy us at the moment. Back to front we are ordinary. Sterling looks knackered and Balotelli can't score and I'm expecting a tough game against West Brom.

I haven't taken one hit so far this season and its been a slow start. Time to be bold?

We've looked terrible lately and given how Sterling looked yesterday I fear he might not even start on Saturday.

      Even so, I don't think that's worth a -8.

Been back and forth on this even prior to his hatrick. All you remaining Balotelli owners. Are you getting rid prior to the internationals for Welbeck or are you waiting?

Balotelli will be much better when Sturridge is back, but Sturridge won't play Saturday, so it depends if you're willing to wait.

      hello.

i'm 50ish pts behind my league leader and decided to use the W.C. and make room for Aguero and captaining him for differentials. note: most of my friends use a typical template squads.

      my current team:

      Begovic
      Shackell - Taylor - Shawcross
      ADM - Jedinak - Downing - Siggy
      Costa - Aguero - Ulloa

subs: Mannone - Tadic - Baines - Bertrand.

now i'm not sure about my formation because i don't like seeing Tadic benched,
      also, Pelle / Ulloa?

so, any suggestions would kindly appreciated.
      thanks in advance!

And some. He's slightly less creative, but higher up the pitch, and a LOT more dangerous in terms of his shooting. If he improves from this point as much as he did this time last season, well...

This time last year, he had 3 goals and an assist from 4 starts. From GW7-10 though, he got 5 goals and 5 assists in those 4 matches.

Evening all, I'm in a bit of a pickle...

I find myself in the top 9k, the highest I've ever been, and with 2 FT I don't know how to use. Here's my side:

    Begovic - McCarthy

    Clyne - Rafael - Taylor - Duff - Moore

    ADM - Fabregas - Sterling - Siggy - Boyd

    Aguero - Costa - Pelle

    0.1m ITB

Now, there isn't anything pressing. From GW8 I'd like to get Baines in, but this would involve downgrading someone, and all of my front 8 look like scoring points this weekend.

Rafael has been earmarked to transfer out, but anyone coming in for less money would be a 1 week punt who would then make way for Baines. And to be honest, for all Man United's defensive frailties he's looked excellent going forward - I don't see a better option for 1 week only.

The most viable move I've heard suggested is Rafael + Pelle > Baines + Ulloa, but getting rid of Pelle when he's scoring and with good fixtures seems foolish. I also want to keep a careful eye on Welbeck, but I couldn't bring myself to sacrifice Costa, and probably not Aguero either.

Ideally I'd only make one move this week, so I have 2 FT for the international break. The only option I can see that I wouldn't transfer out straight away is Begovic > Schmeichel to save a few more pennies, but I would then have double Leicester def! Although they do have good fixtures...

Where on earth do I use it? Or do I just leave things as they are? Apologies for the essay 😯

Get rid of aguero, all that money for an edge of ur seat, will he get injured goal, I'm not convinced he's worth it till he gets more double figure hauls

He may get sacrificed for Welbeck who's fixtures improve next week, I'm giving him one more chance. DG'ing him would certainly free up some cash.

How can Aguero get one more chance? He's Aguero! World class consistent goalscorer who will explode as soon as you take him out 😉 Remove him at your peril! :p

I like the Begovic to Mannone move, I might bring in Vito this week myself.

          Then Pelle -> Welbeck GW8

and finally Davies -> Wisdom and Rafael -> Baines GW for a -4? Would you have enough to do this....?

Cannot afford to feck up in mini league now. I prefer to bring in stable performers for the long run. But as I am planing Walcott in (or Silva if he proves worthy) in 3 weeks, this transfer will be for the short run.

Dropped. Don't think Leicester play with wingers. More of a a 4-1-2-1-2 with the 2 in midfield (usually Drinkwater and Hammond/King) being CM and Vardy behind Ulloa and Nugent.

McIlroy is by far the best player on the planet. Therefore, he has the potential to do it - which is saying something. Therefore, the bookies wont be too generous. The odds will still be high, but not massive.

Look at it from your point of view... all the things that could go wrong. Injury, loss of form, etc... and work out how many he has to win each year. It will take real consistency. Be interested to know the odds when you find them. 🙂

It's measured by Tiger at his peak eating, sleeping, drinking winning Majors and having the ability to grind out results. McIlroy will give up if he feels like it when things aren't going his way.
