We roll out our second Burning Question of the week this afternoon. Having run the rule over Wayne Rooney replacements in yesterday’s piece, we now assess the fallout from Aaron Ramsey’s hamstring injury.

Although his manager has suggested a three or four-week absence, the transfer market has gone into overdrive this week and the Gunners midfielder has been subject to over 270,000 trades out in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game, resultantly dropping to 8.9.

With this in mind we ask the Burning Question: Do you hold onto Ramsey? If not, who comes in?

Jonty says…
Aaron Ramsey is too expensive a player to bench for anything more than a single Gameweek. But even if he had not injured his hamstring, a case had already been mounting for ditching the Welshman. Arsenal face Chelsea away this weekend and returns were unlikely, plus his form was on the slide with just one assist in four matches. Fixtures improve in the short term, but it would be hard to look past a returning Theo Walcott as Arsenal cover. In terms of replacements, doubling up on Southampton and drafting in the impressive Dusan Tadic as well as Graziano Pelle would be a good call. My pick, however, is David Silva ahead of City’s kind run of fixtures (avl, TOT, whm, MUN, qpr, SWA) over the next six matches – no other midfielder has created more chances than the little Spaniard over the last four Gameweeks.

D1sable says…
I see no reason to hold him – the game moves so fast and you need to react not only to the changing market prices but to keep pace with other Fantasy managers who will almost certainly be switching him out.

I think there are two good options here. Firstly, as Jonty has already mentioned, David Silva looks a good alternative but my other tip is the points machine Steven Gerrard.

I know this will be an unpopular choice but the man continues to defy reason. Despite almost playing as a third centre-half in some matches, Gerrard continues to churn out points and is currently the seventh highest scoring midfielder in the FPL game. With a fixture list that reads (WBA, qpr, HULL, new, CHE, cpl) and the returning Daniel Sturridge to help tuck away the chances he creates (and potentially win a few penalties), I see no signs of his points diminishing and fancy him to outscore the majority of other options over this period.

Spencer says…
With Ramsey out, I’ve gone for Chelea’s Cesc Fabregas. I’m still annoyed that I took him out of my team and think that he has points potential against every team. Alternatively, my other midfield option would be City’s David Silva, who’s looking much more consistent this season – the champions look free scoring, and you’d like to think that the Spaniard would be at the heart of most attacks.

Mark says…
While Arsene Wenger has indicated that Ramsey could well return shortly after the international break (and therefore miss one, maybe two matches), I’m aware that the Gunners’ boss has often been optimistic with his appraisal of his player’s prognosis. Ramsey is a prize asset who won’t be rushed back and I don’t see any option but to part company and shop for a replacement.

Although the Gunners have a wealth of talent in that area, I’d personally favour opting for Danny Welbeck up front and scan the other squads for a suitable replacement.

Right now, I’d favour gambling on Dusan Tadic. While Chelsea and United have a cast of candidates, I see their attacking points being shared around, while I fully expect Tadic to bloom in the short-term with his schedule and the Saints’ current form. Like Graziano Pelle, the statistics suggest we have a potential heavy-hitter on our hands, and while he hasn’t quite delivered, I favour taking the punt on him, particularly as I’m overlooking Pelle in favour of Welbeck and Sergio Aguero as my wing-men for Diego Costa.

Long-term, I’ve one eye on Theo Walcott and I feel it’s inevitable that Alexis Sanchez will explode – it’s going to be a question of timing our investment to coincide with an uninterrupted period of pitch time. Tricky, but I feel that the Fantasy managers who can anticipate Arsene Wenger’s midfield line-up best will have a huge advantage.

Ryan says…
Picking a player with both form and fixtures is a golden rule in Fantasy football. Everything has to stack up when making such crucial transfer decisions. Ramsey is a big-hitter and takes up a significant portion of the budget but, truth be told, he was in poor form and probably needed to be sold anyway.

The difficulty, however, is that there are few big hitting midfielders with both form and fixtures. If you don’t already own them, Cesc Fabregas and Angel Di Maria are both about to embark on a run of tough fixtures. Liverpool’s form has dipped of late, reducing the appeal of Steven Gerrard and Raheem Sterling – although the return of Daniel Sturridge could be the catalyst for an upturn in fortunes. David Silva, who for so long has flattered to deceive, continues to do so – the Spaniard consistently racks up strong creativity stats but has only taken a measly five shots on goal this season.

By contrast, Dusan Tadic’s 16 efforts is second only to Sterling’s tally, whilst he’s also created 12 chances and has a strong run of fixtures to follow – the perfect combination. With just 2.6% ownership in the FPL game, the Saints playmaker looks like a differential well worth owning.

7shadesofsmoke says…
Aaron Ramsey’s injury will come as a cruel blow to the faithful 30% or so of FPL managers who’ve held on to him through a relatively barren spell since Gameweek 2. Unfortunately for Ramsey’s owners, he’s no longer an over-performing circa-6.0 man and his expected absence until early November will weigh heavy in the pockets of frustrated Fantasy managers who’ve seen the likes of Raheem Sterling and Cesc Fabregas deliver on a more regular basis while Angel Di Maria shot to the fore at Old Trafford.

With expected price falls on the horizon and the chance to leap onto steadier ships, selling Ramsey looks like a solid option and those who don’t have one of Fabregas or Sterling have an easy solution staring them in the eye. Anyone else could be tempted by David Silva’s excellent chance creation, with strong fixtures and a fit Sergio Aguero to feed, while Samir Nasri’s groin injury could thrust Jesus Navas into the picture – the winger has produced chances more frequently than both Silva and Fabregas when given the chance this season.

The Tinkerman says…
One key skill to FPL is to quickly spot trends and act fast. In this case, an injury to Ramsey – a player with no goals and one assist in his last four – is a great excuse to bring in another player who you have most likely missed out on up to now and who is quietly showing the kind of form that arguably makes him one of the most valuable midfielders in the game: Nacer Chadli. The Spurs midfielder has managed four goals in five appearances this term, regardless of the fact he missed Gameweek 1 and is yet to complete 90 minutes, and enjoys a modest price tag of 6.2. Add the fact that he is a relative differential, with less than 10% ownership, and his appeal over other Ramsey replacements is obvious.

Many will feel that they prefer to pick a premium option for their Ramsey alternative. However, this approach could prove to be unwise given the fact that, after six Gameweeks, Chadli sits joint-top of the FPL midfield rankings. If he continues this form and the chances keep falling his way, there’s no reason he can’t go on to be one of the top-scoring midfielders by the end of the season. Forced off during the north London derby, he’s since been included in today’s Europa League squad and is my number one Ramsey replacement.

I have completely lost track of price rises and press conferences etc etc

Should I hold off on doing Tadic and Aguero in for Rooney and Ramsey until tomorrow or should I just do it now?

If both Sterling and Siggy both blank this weekend (i kinda expect them to)
    then:

    a) Siggy - > Tadic (already got Pelle)
    b) Sterling -> Sanchez (no Ars players currently)
    c) 4m def -> Bertrand

    ?

          - Baines is undroppable, obviously
          - Pieters - game time risk with Muniesa now apparently
          - Moreno - WBA have been playing quite well lately
          - Naylor - playing against a formless newcastle at home
          - Moore - yes, burnley seem quite toothless, but they are bound to score sooner rather than later, with leicester statistically one of the poorest defences (chances conceded)

So, imo play Baines, Naylor and then do a coin toss for the rest 😀

You know ADM isn't for me - lacks enough goals to justify that price.
Sunderland's fixtures take a turn for the worse next week, so you'll be better off looking at a replacement. I would get rid of Colo first though, Reid/Tomkins might fill the bill

ADM lacks goals but Fabregas doesn't? ADM is United's 3rd most threatening player...just behind Rooney and RVP, ahead of Falcao. He's scored twice this season, in 4 games.

Both lack goals. Fabregas is on borrowed time for me, I bought him @9 so that's the maximum I would pay for someone who isn't a goal threat.

He does get to play in the hole as well, in the last few minutes. Has a better chance of assisting from set pieces than ADM due to the physically imposing players in the Chelsea squad.

i disagree fab would be a better fpl prospect than adm and i am a chelsea fan.
the thing is adm was used in different positions in madrid and was not really integral to the team so you can't expect him to score much. he was limited to assists and don't forget only messi and ozil has more assists than di maria since 2010. now imagine di maria in a team where he is the best player, he feels integral to the team. there are more responsibilties on his shoulders . i expect him to score more this season. see the goal against leicester, it shows a man with confidence . chances were he would have passed to ronaldo or bale last season, he has confidence to shoot this season
as for fab, he is out of my team after this gw. i dont think he would score much this season. so he is limited to assists. i would go for sanchez. i feel he would be fpl top midfielder this season.if i could afford
            fab adm sterling sanchez

            aguero costa welbeck

i would keep fab but unfortunately i can't , so i would use chadli

but that's just my stupid opinion

Sorry for the late reply. I stepped away from the computer for a couple of minutes.

I would get rid of Ramsey because even when he comes back, he might be eased in, as is the case these days. I would get Chadli or Puncheon. Both are excellent options, imo and if pushed, I would opt for Chadli.

I find it absurd that commentators, pundits, and some fans are already on his back.

At the very least its a very obvious case of subconscious racism. Soldado didn't get half as much criticism as Balotelli has got in the last 48 hours as Soldado got in a year for being far, far worse for example.

You go and listen to the commentary yesterday.

When Balotelli does something good, like hold the play up and play someone in down the channel, the commentators don't praise him whatsoever, and in fact choose to criticize him for the things he didn't do rather than those he did. When he wins clear free kicks by working hard down the channels, its "oh Balotelli went down a little easily there" instead of "thats good holdup play for a forward"... On one occasion he was pressuring a defender by the corner flag perfectly - without commiting a foul - yet the commentators criticize him for a foul that wasn't there (and rightfully wasn't given). Its absurb how frequent this is.

Graeme Souness and Carragher were so embarrassing yesterday in their criticism of him as well in pre-game. Souness saying that "as a liverpool fan, its hard to like him" is not representative of liverpool fans whatsoever.

Hardly racist to call someone who looks very lazy lazy. Seen his style of play in lots of players before but they normally back it up with lots of goals, if he doesn't do that then it makes it look more obvious.
And as far as I can see most English commentators jump on all foreigners quicker than they would a British player, soldado got it hard very quickly.
Perfect example for me is our arry and AVB, no matter who had you prefer AVB got a roasting because he was foreign

long term, short term? Is price a factor?

I think Agüero and Costa are going to walk it over the rest (points alone) and the other three won't have a lot between them

Probably Welbeck, Pelle, Ulloa in that order.

Ticker definitely puts Arsenal ahead of WBA for Cleanies

Problem is I won't be buying either of Dawson or Chambers until GW10

Deciding on which one will be tough, though I'm leaning towards Dawson atm

well there is goal threat but that is an excellent point. If I'm getting WBA defence might as well get the cheapest option. Maybe I'll just get Chambers after all

WBA actually have better defensive stats than Arsenal

Yeah but Arsenal have had tough opening fixtures and haven't had their first choice back early doors when they were conceding like a sieve. I'm been very surprised by West Brom honestly and didn't expect much of them this season before it began but their defense has looked a pretty tidy little unit.

Going Adrian as lone keeper is a poor pick, imo. I've discussed this at great length with Doos (was considering him for the WC) and he said he will get 2-4 clean sheets in the next 10 game weeks.

That backline is decent, but I would want a different GK combination.

Silva hasn't convinced me, just yet. One worth keeping an eye on though.

ADM to Tadic/Chadli. I would have opted for Hart if he was nailed on! If you're going the Welbeck route, then I would still prefer Fabianski over Courtois

Begovic is your safest option. Great fixtures until gw13, and even in his bad fixtures you know Stoke are capable of getting a CS against a top side, especially at home. Stoke won't be conceding 3+ anytime soon either, unlike some other options.

Agree. I'd rather spend an extra 0.5 to get Begovic than trust Adrian, especially as first choice. I would only consider Adrian if it was in a rotation, and he was playing the minority of games.

TFF, you like your stats, so please explain to me why you prefer someone like Moore over Wisdom? Leicester have some of the worst defensive stats in the league (in some cases THE worst) whereas West Brom have been really solid for the most part, particularly since Lescott returned.

            Falcao Costa Aguero

            looks pretty ace to me...

would mean 4.5m keeper and at least 4 s 4m defenders sure...but i've never liked defence anyway.

Hutton, Wisdom, Moore, Dummet - their 1-2 pointers are just as good as Lovrens....!

You will miss out on a lot of defensive returns, Falcao to Welbeck gives you a back line that isn't made up of relegation candidates.

Alexis Sanchez, Soooo frustrating to own! Had him since the start and while I'm happy with his 2 league goals watching him deliver the good in Europe and then be benched twice in the league is the stuff knee jerks are made of.!! Wenger better start him on Sunday otherwise i think it'll be the last straw for me.!

There's a few spelling mistakes and a haphazard approach to capital letters.
Apart from that what advice do you have in mind?
Maybe mention money in the bank, number of free transfers available, potential targets.....

I went for Valencia, considering Sakho could be deployed on the wing and Valencia has generally been playing more centrally.. But either one could do well!
