After the international break, we cast our minds back to Gameweek 8 and bring you the stats that matter. We assess the Man of the Match (MoTM) awards, bonus point beneficiaries and the current market trends before taking a look at the Scout team and our plans for Gameweek ten.

Gameweek 8 Man of the Match Awards

These were the players that caught the eye of the Sky Sports reporters from last weekend’s fixtures achieving the Man of the Match award (worth an additional five points).

FixtureMoTM
Hull vs Crystal PalaceAndrew Robertson
Leicester vs BurnleyRiyad Mahrez
Liverpool vs West BromJordan Henderson
Sunderland vs StokeSteven Fletcher
Swansea vs NewcastlePapiss Cisse
Aston Villa vs Man CityDavid Silva
Man United vs EvertonDavid de Gea
Chelsea vs ArsenalEden Hazard
Tottenham vs SouthamptonChristian Eriksen
West Ham vs QPRDiafra Sakho

Papiss Cisse, Diafra Sakho and Eden Hazard all picked up their second MoTM of the season last week and all look well placed to continue to deliver in the coming weeks. Andrew Robertson is really staking a claim for a position in our XI’s – at just 4.0m, he’s a real enabler for pricier options elsewhere and carries a strong attacking threat from his left wing-back position – Hull’s fixtures don’t look great, though and keeping tabs on him from afar might be the best policy at present.

Gameweek 8 Bonus Points

Two goalkeepers achieved bonus points from collecting five or more saves – Ben Foster and Brad Guzan were the men in question, both just hitting the threshold with five stops apiece. Robert Green leads the way for keepers, with six additional points so far.

In defence, 11 players grabbed bonus, seven for tackles and five for passes completed – premium option Vincent Kompany was the man to earn both in an impressive outing and he now leads the way for defenders with ten additional bonus points.

In midfield there were 17 beneficiaries in total: nine for tackling and eight for passes. Mathieu Flamini was perhaps the closest to getting both, falling short by 12 passes. Morgan Schneiderlin is the overall bonus king earning 14 so far.

Fantasy Football Scout members can access all information regarding bonus points using player stats and clicking the Sky Sports tab.

The Transfer Trends

Poor form and injury doubts have spelled the end for Dejan Lovren’s spell in 6.75% of teams, however the Croatian could yet feature this weekend if he can shake his back injury. Aaron Ramsey is set to miss the weekend’s match but could be back in time for Gameweek 11. Hugo Lloris pulled out of France internationals with a groin complaint and goes into the weekend as a doubt. Callum Chambers is serving a one-match ban against Hull whilst John Stones is set for a spell on the sidelines after going under the knife.

Southampton’s defense is again attracting suitors this week with Nathaniel Clyne joining his team mate Ryan Bertrand in the top five transferred in. Angel di Maria, Cesc Fabregas and Diego Costa join those two as their phenomenal form continues.

Notes

Back to form last Gameweek with a pretty decent 72 points earned. Although my budget backline was a washout, my attacking seven all returned points with the exception of Dusan Tadic. My two captains Sergio Aguero and Diego Costa both picked up 14 points, which went along way to my overall score, but perhaps even more pleasing was my decision to stick by Eden Hazard and Christian Eriksen, who both picked up 12 points.

Having said that, both Hazard and Eriksen may have played their last match for my team with Cesc Fabregas and one of Danny Welbeck/Theo Walcott my choice of replacements. Fabregas is just a force of nature at the moment and even though Hazard outscored him this week (a rarity) he still picked up passing bonus and an assist to keep ticking over and it’s a trade I have been putting off for a while. With Eriksen I’m tempted to stick for now due to their good fixtures after the Etihad trip and bring in Walcott once he’s fully up and running, however I may be tempted into the early Welbeck option as they also have good fixtures, starting this week at home to Hull. One for me to ponder on Saturday morning.

Captain plan

For Saturday I’ll probably keep the armband on Diego Costa and play safe. I could use a free swap to move it to Sergio Aguero but I wonder if that’s me just trying to be too clever.

On Sunday, I’ll captain Raheem Sterling and hope for a reaction from the under-fire Liverpool man – against the sloth-like backline of QPR he couldn’t ask for a better platform to deliver.

I’m not going for the extra captain option on Monday night’s game for two reasons. Firstly, I can’t spare the transfers after already blazing through so many so will probably need to use more in the coming weeks and secondly Liverpool play on Saturday Gameweek 11, whilst Man United feature on the Sunday, meaning I would need to use further transfers if I wanted two captains that week.

Head Shaker: Someone says you shouldn't base your transfers on the past. Then brings in Aguero because he's been playing well.

If Costa is out, I will have Taylor coming in, I was going to do A, but now I am leaning towards B, any thoughts:

    A: Bruce > Baines for a free
B: PvA & JWP > Tadic & Baines for a hit and bench Ulloa/Siggy (who are likely to now come in)

    Cheers!!!!

yeahhhh it seems that the 3 week article was drawn simply because Mourinho said 'no comment', I don't believe that he's injured. more than likely just mind games, Costa starts IMO. definitely silly to transfer him, you're just going to want him back anyways and now lose TV in the process..

My current squad for GW8, need last minute improvements? Got 1FT and £3.6m spare.
    De Gea (Mannone)
Bertrand - Ivanovic - Clyne - (Wisdom, Cameron)
Di Maria - Siggurdson - Sterling - Sadio Mane (Moses)
    Costa - Welbeck - Naismith

I really want Aguero, but that would involve losing Mane and Moses for two 4.5 midfielders. Worth the -8 points and poor midfield?
Also who should my captain be for GW8? Many thanks in advance.

Also still got my wildcard if that helps.

I'd downgrade Moses this week and play it as it is. Then next week take a 4 pt hit and get Kun for Naismith. You could Wildcard and downgrade De Gea, cameron, Moses. (keep Mane, I think he's a good differential). You also need to think of a exit plan in a few weeks for double Southampton defence (not urgent though), so might want to save WC

I’ve never taken an 8 point hit before, but I could draft a really great team right now if I wanted to.

Here’s where I am sitting right now (and plan to play this weekend)

    Krul (Elliot)
    Clyne Manquillo Moore (Wisdom, Chester)
    Fabs ADM Siggy Sterling Tadic
    Aguero Costa (Naismith)

    Do I?
    A) Nothing
    B) Transfer Chester to 4.8 defender (or below)
    c) Transfer in Azpi/Coleman for Chester and a low-grad Midfielder for Tadic for -4
    d) Transfer in
    Chester/Wisdom/Tadic out for Azpi/Jagielka/Wanyama for -8

    Should I just relax?

Again, he's had one game since he's been with Arsenal where he has not blanked. Still a lot of hype and not a lot of deliverance of points.

As an arsenal fan, I don't think were playing very well at the moment. Got a lot of injuries too. Certainly wouldn't captain an arsenal player, and quite happy having pelle over welbeck.

Sure. But Chelsea didn't park the bus. Hull will and arsenal aren't exactly looking like making loads of chances to me.

His first 2 games he just had a few minutes to run about.
So looking at his last 4 games he's played up against:
        MCI avl TOT che

Scoring well against Villa, it looks as if he's some what of a flat track bully.

    FT

    Ulloa > Welbeck

    or

    Terry > Baines

Ulloa could quite easily get a brace vs Newcastle.

I'd prefer B, but even then, it could backfire.

Jose gave the 3 Spanish players an extra 2 days off. Costa turned up for training at 9am on Monday instead. Jose said no comment when asked if he was there for an injury treatment. More likely he is just comitted to the cause.
My guess would be if he came back injured they would of known the extent by now as he was back at training on Monday. If he was out with a 3 week injury Jose would of used his presser to highlight this and blast the Spanish FA for playing him too much.
Telegraph is just trolling for website hits.

      paraphrasing from someone else earlier:

I think the '3 week' article was based solely on Mourinho answering 'no comment' to the journo about treatment. If the journo doesn't ask, then Mourinho is saying Costa's strong. But then 'no comment' suggests he has had issues. I think the translation for "no comment" is "I want to say screw you for asking stupid questions in my pressers, but instead I'll say no comment to play tricks with Warnock's head". I think Costa is most likely completely fine.

He didn't come back from the internationals injured, though. We know this as he trained on Monday. Whatever may or may not have happened has occurred since then, and if Jose uses the internationals as an excuse then he'll get slaughtered. It's not as if the Spanish press need an excuse.

How did you come to the conclusion that he trained on Monday?

Mourinho said he reported back on Monday, "whether it was for treatment for the injury (or something like that) , no comment"

          • 16 Years

Well, I agree there's a level of assumption there. He reported for training on Monday, which, according to Mourinho, shows how strong he is. That makes me think he trained. I'm not sure Mourinho would classify someone turning up for treatment as an indication of strength.

I'd flip it. Probably not much in it as both are destined for 1 or 2 pointers but would much rather think that Villa keep a clean than Marney gets any attacking returns.
