He'll be good value for his price, but his attacking potential isn't good. Yesterday was a complete freak accident. So go ahead and shoehorn Sanchez in - Chambers can wait.

Since almost everyone has a Clyne/Bertrand + Pelle and with Aguero, Baines & ADM seemingly indispensable, it comes down to
Sanchez vs Costa.
Sanchez:
+Main man at Arsenal.
+No Obvious cover (Welbeck is not enough, Walcott yet to start a game)
+Has shown to be a viable captaincy option
+Gets more points for a goal scored as a mid along with 1 point for CS.
+Dearth of genuine big hitting explosive mids
+On a few set pieces as well.
+No injury headache every week
Costa
-Not worth having him alongside Aguero if you are not going to captain him too often
-Can be covered by Cesc or Hazard (penalties, as well)
-Better value strikers could be had (e.g, Sakho/Berahino)
-Injury Prone. Could be rested here and there incase of a niggle as Drogba seems a capable -enough replacement.
Think I have convinced myself that Sanchez + Sakho + Chelsea mid is better than Costa + Downing + Any mid upto 9

He played 96 games in TWO seasons at Athletico - his fitness record is amazing.
I understand that he's had a niggling problem, but come on, he scored 5 goals in two of the games that he was flagged and was then rested for one. He looked sharp against QPRhaha, TWO!
He's missed 2 games and played several games last season injured, oh and the World Cup.
I get that Granville, but its hardly like those injuries have prevented him being a brilliant goalscorer.
27 in 35 league games last year and 9 already this season. His injury record is not costing him that much.I just think we are being a bit quick to jump on the anti-Costa bandwagon - and i thought we were too quick to tag him essential.

Want to downgrade Costa, but cant find a good replacement. Pelle got 3 tough games soon, Berahino 2 and already got West Ham coverage with Downing.
Makes sense to me. You'll get opposition to this from those who use Costa as a comfort blanket. There's so many options this season which makes it pretty interesting.

Come December we need players who play. Costa will not be able to play so many games which makes the decision to exclude Jim easy really.
I'm starting to think similar, that there is better pts potential from a CHE mid and Sanchez rather than Costa. Fabregas gets pretty much all Costa's assists anyway.
There is another thought - Oscar as a relatively cheaper option. I still fear rotation but think he and fab could offer lots of pts potential.The earth will wobble off it's axis before you let go of Costa with that ownership.

I agree that Sanchez is a good option. I do not think it is an open and shut case that he will score more points than Costa, or that he and a budget striker will score more than Costa and a budget midfielder nor do I think it is impossible to fit both Costa and Sanchez in because I disagree that Aguero, Baines, and Di Maria are indispensable. All good options, but you can certainly get by without at least one of them.
Not one of those is indispensable. Baines is good because he takes up just a defenders slot.

Baines - Has always been dynamic,also added consistency this year. Everton starting to get into some good form
Aguero - Main man at City.Great Captaincy choice almost each week which kind of beats the purpose of having Costa. Penalties as well.
ADM - Tempted to leave him out but United showing promise and with those fixtures, he looks for some big points.
Also, the above 3 players don't have any obvious replacements from their own team unlike Costa.For me, it's Baines. He's a great option, but I feel you can get better value from a rotating group of budget defenders.
Having a teammate is irrelevant to me. Having Hazard has no impact for me on whether I'd want Costa or not unless there are two other Chelsea players I want as well.

All the players you mention are desirable, but none are absolutely indispensable.
It is difficult to fit them all in, so the real question is which one of them to leave out - and that doesn't have to be Sanchez or Costa. It could be one of the others - and the player you leave out does not necessarily have to be covered by another from the same team..My first hulked post! 😀
