Alexis Sanchez scores yet again as Arsenal let a three-goal advantage slip at home to Anderlecht. Brendan Rodgers makes a number of changes as Liverpool lose narrowly to Real Madrid. Diafra Sakho is set to return for West Ham’s home clash with Villa and Aleksandar Kolarov is set for a spell on the sidelines with a calf complaint.

Sanchez Strikes Again in Gunners Draw

Arsene Wenger made two changes to the side that faced Burnley at the weekend for the Champions League clash with Anderlecht last night, as Aaron Ramsey and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain both earned starts. The latter, along with Mikel Arteta and Alexis Sanchez, helped his side move 3-0 ahead, before the Gunners blew their lead to end up drawing 3-3 with the Belgian club.

The Scout Says: Though last night’s events may have dented the confidence of Wenger’s side, and raised question marks over their resilience against tougher opponents, they did at least exhibit the sort of attacking flair in the first 60 minutes that will fill owners of their offensive assets with plenty of confidence ahead of the weekend trip to Swansea. Sanchez has now notched 11 goals in his last 13 appearances, and has already acquired 170,000 new owners since his brace against Burnley last Saturday. Danny Welbeck, meanwhile, earned an assist last night, and having been withdrawn with ten minutes to go at the Emirates, continues to look nailed on for starts until the return of Olivier Giroud, at least. Now available for 7.4 in the Fantasy Premier League game (FPL), the former United forward continues to look a viable prospect for our frontlines, albeit at a far less explosive level than his in-form strike partner.

RODGERS RINGS THE CHANGES IN REAL LOSS

Brendan Rodgers made numerous changes to his starting line-up for last night’s Champions League showdown with Real Madrid. The likes of Kolo Toure, Lazar Markovic and Fabio Borini were all handed starts at the Bernabeu, and, despite a valiant effort in defence, Liverpool slipped to a 1-0 defeat , leaving them on just three points from four outings in Europe.

Post-match, Rodgers confirmed that the plethora of changes was due to his normal first-choice side’s recent lack of form:

“The Newcastle game we lost and we were disappointed with the result and the performance. We might have lost 5-0 if we started with those players. We are not a team on the back of five or six wins and my selection is made easy because of performance. Anything but that and there are so many positives from tonight.”

The Scout Says: Many may have viewed last night’s teamsheet as an indicator that Rodgers is prioritising his side’s efforts in the Premier League over their European commitments, though the Anfield boss moved quickly to deny such allegations. Indeed, it now looks like a number of places in the starting XI are up for grabs when Liverpool face Chelsea this weekend, and although the likes of Steven Gerrard and Raheem Sterling will surely return to the side against the table-toppers, it’s clear that Rodgers won’t be taking any prisoners from here on in –a scenario that may well place further question marks over his starting line-ups across all competitions.

SAKHO SET FOR WEEKEND RETURN

West Ham have confirmed that striker Diafra Sakho will be back from a shoulder injury for their encounter with Aston Villa this weekend.

The Scout Says: The former Metz forward has tallied a sensational 48 points across his six starts for the Hammers, though continues to fly under the radar with an ownership of just 5.5% in FPL. His absence last weekend allowed strike partner Enner Valencia to step in and take the plaudits with a goal and an assist against Stoke, and Sakho will now be eager to reaffirm his position as the forward option of choice in Sam Allardyce’s side. With a price tag still of just 5.8, the Senegal international is sure to rise in value if he can now take full advantage of his great fixture list (AVL, eve, NEW, wba, SWA, sun) and perhaps even begin to challenge the likes of Sergio Aguero and Graziano Pelle at the zenith of the FPL forward standings.

YACOB IN LINE FOR BAGGIES START

Alan Irvine has revealed that he is likely to play Claudio Yacob in place of the suspended Craig Gardner when his West Brom side take on Newcastle this weekend.

The Scout Says: Having only made three appearances from the bench so far this season, Sunday’s clash with Newcastle will represent a huge opportunity for Yacob to secure himself more minutes across the rest of the campaign. The knock-on effect of the Argentine’s selection should also mean that Chris Brunt continues on the flank against the Magpies. The 5.4 priced midfielder has earned an assist in each of his last three home appearances and will be tasked with providing the creative threat from the left once again this weekend – with an ownership below 1%, Brunt looks an intriguing differential option for those looking to free up budget to get the likes of Alexis Sanchez and Sergio Aguero in elsewhere.

KOLAROV ABSENCE CONFIRMED

Manuel Pellegrini has disclosed that left back Aleksandar Kolarov will be out of action for a month with the calf injury he sustained during the warm-up prior to the Manchester derby last weekend.

The Scout Says: Kolarov’s injury blow does at least provide Fantasy managers with some more assuredness over City’s starting backline. Up until now, only Vincent Kompany has started every league match, and thus has looked the only viable option in their rearguard, despite his hefty 6.5 price tag. However, with Kolarov sidelined, Gael Clichy now blinks onto our radars – the Frenchman is available for 5.3, and has earned maximum bonus points on the two occasions he has earned a clean sheet. The former Arsenal man now looks assured of starts over the next month, and with City facing a superb schedule in that time (qpr, SWA, sou, sun), could be set to reap the benefits of Kolarov’s absence.

Do you plan to ditch Soton assets after the next week or two?

If so, which ones, and to whom?

I have just Clyne and tempted to ditch soon but not sure which other defence I could trust.

Forster as my only playing keeper has to go. thinking Courtois or fabianski

Have Clyne as well but he can be rotated so not a big a risk. Will likely ditch him aswell though. Again, Im thinking either Azpi or Naylor.

Think I will go Courtois/Naylor, as Naylor has some attacking threat compared to Azpi and feel safe playing a Chelsea keeper every week as opposed to a Swansea one. Can easily bench Naylor too.

My other plans might be to downgrade significantly to 4.5 keeper and 4.0 defender, allowing me to get a heavy hitter in midfield for Chadli. Someone like ADM, Hazard or Walcott

I already started the surgery last week by getting rid of Clyne to fund Sanchez. I will upgrade Bertie before the away game against Villa, leaving me with only Pelle.

Fantasy Football Scout daily hot topic

Can Liverpool turn it around in time for their kind run of fixtures? Is Daniel Sturridge all that is needed to bring back the goals to Liverpool? Or are their problems deeper than that? Are Sterling sellers foolish to ditch a player whose individual underlying stats remain sound? Or is it time to admit that form will be the victor in the Liverpool form over fixture debate.

Sterling went for Sanchez before last week. Until him and Sturridge are back together, Sterling is a luxury many of us can't afford.

      Form over fixtures.

Last nights antics may see a more varied starting 11, so outside of Mignolet, I would struggle to predict their starting 11 (and I'm a pool fan!)

What to do after a good week?

Half the battle in FPL is getting the right player at the right time. The other half is getting rid of the player at the right time, shedding the player whilst others cling on for sentimental reasons despite the consistent lack of returns.

Nearly every week there is usually something to fix, a weak link in your chain that needs editing. But what happens when nearly every player performs, what is the next step? Plenty were ready to shed Fabregas, but he keeps on drip feeding us points.

The week after inevitably becomes a slight squib compared to the previous successful one. Almost early stages of nostalgia tend to creep in. If your players return points, surely it's hard to get rid of them.

Tadic temporarily became essential after his monster haul, and (whilst it's early days) he has yet to vindicate any reason to keep him in.

My question is, do you treat it like any other game week? Or do you find yourself not changing much, if anything at all?

For me, having 2ft's and not being able to use one comes around once every couple of seasons. There's always something I can do to mess it up 😀

The problem with a bumper week is we always get sentimental!

Hey lads, would appreciate some feedback on this lot - got a few questions. Thanks, all.

    (-4)
    Courtois
    Baines / Clyne / Wisdom
Sanchez / Di Maria (VC) / Siggy / Chadli
    Aguero (C) / Costa / Sakho

    Saylor / Albrighton / Moore
    0.2 ITB.

    A) GTG?
    B) Wisdom or Saylor?
    C) Who to captain?

I've had him throughout his good run and am considering jumping ship to Sakho.

RMT tool has him outscoring Sakho for the next 6 - I'm a bit surprised at this, granted, but it doesn't make this sideways move look too appealing.

          That sounds very dubious.

Don't really like tools like RMT tbh, I bet they had his score really low before the Burnley game when I bought him, and look what he did in his next 3.

You could make a case that most fixtures are tough in that case. WBA might not win them but they should still be able to score and Berahino is usually involved when they do.

They are on the same points as United and Everton, and just below Spurs/Pool 🙂

Newcastle have 3 clean sheets, Arsenal the same.

West Ham have kept 1 CS all season, Villa haven't kept a CS since GW4. Hull and QPR left after that...

            'Tough fixtures definitely'? Behave.

Villa and QPR games are a long time again, form changes quickly in this game.

The next 4-5 are definitely tough fixtures, and I don't really look any further than that for attackers' fixtures.

If those fixtures are considered tough then most teams have tough fixtures. I'd back West Brom to score in most of those. Actually all of them. You are definitely overrating Arsenals defence, we are terrible at the moment, and West Ham aren't the same as they used to be with this new style.

WBA will be a bottom half team at the end of the season, you're oversimplfying things a tad imo. These are mid table to bottom half teams who will be scrapping it during busy season where rest and rotation will be aplenty.

You're describing them like they're cut and dried hammerings. Behave.

He's a decent budget pick but chances are he won't outscore the likes of Pelle/Lukaku and even Etoo over that run of games. It's also an issue of team balance as you'd likely spread your funds across your team with Berahino and will struggle to get in the pricier players when the time comes.

What is more likely to happen is that Naismith/Bojan/Crouch/Fletcher/Weimann start posting decent scores during the same period and you'd be tempted to jump on them.

He doesn't have to outscore Pelle or Lukaku, he's 3M+ cheaper for a reason. He's in 'competition' with Sakho, Naismith, Austin and apparently Eto'o now.

What do you mean I am describing them like they're cut and dried hammerings? I'm just saying they aren't 'definitely' tough fixtures. But carry on.

The point I was making with the comparison with Pelle/Lukaku is that once you spread your budget it would be difficult to get a more expensive striker in no?

Well I'm trying to have rational discussion here, so if you just dismiss my comments with "behave" and "carry on", then it seems you're set on your ways so why even ask the question?

I still stand by my reply that they are definitely tough fixtures, competitive football games that could swing either way given they are mid table scraps. This is WBA we're talking about - but if your team strategy depends heavily on a sub 6.0 striker, then just pick Berahino and go with your gut that he will score well over that period.

🙄 rational discussion yet you are making patronising comments and mixing my words around to make your argument stronger.

Obviously if you 'spread your budget' (which you didn't even mention at all) it's harder to buy more expensive players, that's the same for every position.

I asked the question as to whether people opting for others over Berahino was based on the trip to Chelsea as IMO they had decent fixtures afterward until you and Cabaye4 said they had tough ones so I argued my point.

Never said my team strategy depending heavily on a 6M striker - there you go again.

Ok maybe I jumped to the conclusion about your team strategy and I apologize for that.

But I do not think I was patronizing and mixing your words. It's okay, just drop it. I have nothing against you as a poster and don't want to make a big deal out of this.

I just wouldn't say those fixtures are easy, but at that price I guess you can't go too wrong. My personal preference is just to pick a mid price striker as I prefer to have a reliable front 3 that can play week in week out. Less chance of leaving points on the bench.

You got in before my correction, my bad on that.

I don't think they are easy either, I just didn't think they were tough.

It's normally my strategy too, but fitting in Baines/Aguero/Costa/ADM and Sanchez is almost impossible without a sub 7M striker

Perhaps the answer to that conundrum is 2 of Sig/Chadli/Downing in midfield.

I had a discussion with someone in the DZ, that yes there are plenty of good options in the sub 6-7m bracket - but that's a double edged sword since there's a high chance of picking the wrong fella and being stuck with him or waste FTs to hop around to another.

Whereas at the 5.5-6.5 midfield range, there are arguably only 3 standout options. Pick 2 of them to go along with 2 big hitting mids? Something's got to give but at the moment I have

                        Baines Clyne 4.5 4.0 4.0
                        AdM Sanchez Downing Sigurdsson
                        Costa Aguero Pelle

Alright, you did mention the spreading of the budget on second look 😉

But my point still stands that I am comparing to the other cheap options, that so many on here are opting for.

I really need some good advice (don't we all) 2FT £1.8m in the bank.
    Krul (Guzan)
    Alcaraz Chambers Kaboul (Moore Duff)
Hazard (c) Sanchez (vc) Eriksen Tadic (Boyd)
    Aguero Pelle Welbeck
-Need to lose Alcaraz this week
-Could do Alcaraz to Jags or Cresswell with my £ and keep 1 FT
-Would really like Baines but to get him I'd have to downgrade elsewhere I.e.
-Tadic or Eriksen to Downing (but both have good fixtures coming up)
-Or Welbeck to Sakho/Cisse/Kane (again good fixtures but I need to lose either Welbeck or Chambers in order to get Theo)

Am I crazy to bench Fabregas for Downind, Chadli or Sakho?

Downing - his scoring looks good, fixtures great, but its DOWNING!

Anyone worried about bringing him in (say for Siggy)?

I can see why as a Liverpool fan you would be concerned after THAT season with you.

I, as a united fan, have the same concerns.

Downing 13 points. Siggy on the bench. Say no more 😀

But funny thing about those two is that Downing seems a better player away from home when Siggy is the other way around 😉

Hey guys, have 2 FT. Which move seems best?

    A. Ulloa>Sakho (bench Sterling or Ramsey, save 1 transfer)
    B. Ramsey, Sterling > Chadli, Sanchez (bench Ulloa)
    C. Ramsey, Sterling, Ulloa > Chadli, Sanchez, Sakho (-4, bench Welbeck)

Not sure if Sanchez is worth a hit for Swans away and I don't like Arsenal's upcoming fixtures.

Hi guys, please can you have a look at this one:

    A) Tadic + Sterling > ADM + Downing (-4)
    B) Sterling > Downing in GW11 then Tadic > ADM in GW12

My ML leader has suddenly become a FF beast after he started using this site and I need to gain some serious ground. Cheers.

    Here's the team:
    Krul, Foster
    Baines, Wisdom, Clyne, Caulker, Moore
Di Maria, Sanchez, Fabregas, Sigurdsson, Boyd
    Costa, Welbeck, Pelle
    1ft and 0.5

Ideally, i want to get Aguero in soon but maybe there is another transfer worth doing this week. Any suggestions? Welbeck + Costa > Sakho + Aguero worth a hit?

Can you afford to lose Fabregas instead of Costa ?
Welbeck and Fab > Aguero and Downing for example

Given their respective form and fixtures, I'd say this one is probably worth a hit.

    My team b4 ft & 1.1itb

    Krul (Elliott)
    Baines, Ivanovic, Clyne (Hutton, Moore)
    Sanchez, Fabregas, Tadic, Siggy (Boyd)
    Aguero (c), Pelle, Berahino

    What option is best:
    (a) Ivan out, Chambers in
    (b) Moore out, Chambers in
    (b) Siggy out, Downing in
    (c) Berahino out, Sakho in
    (e) Other option I've missed
    (f) save ft
    (g) would you take a - 4 hit to get ADM i.e. Hazard/Siggy out, ADM/Downing in

    Thanks in advance.
