Robin van Persie is set to miss out for Holland this evening. Cesc Fabregas withdraws from the Spain squad due to a hamstring problem, Asmir Begovic is a doubt for Bosnia, Newcastle’s Rolando Aarons picks up another hamstring injury and Gareth Barry is ruled out with ankle ligament damage for Everton.

Van Persie Concern for Dutch

The United striker has been ruled out of tonight’s friendly against Mexico after picking up a “minor injury”, according to Holland boss Guus Hiddink. Despite his failure to join training, the Holland camp are optimistic that Van Persie will be fit in time for Saturday’s showdown with Latvia.

The Scout Says: Whilst many had expected Louis van Gaal’s arrival to transform his compatriot’s Fantasy fortunes, Van Persie has failed to replicate the form which made him a must-have in seasons gone by. With Wayne Rooney shifted into a deeper role and the currently injured Radamel Falcao far from certain to start when fit, Van Persie has retained his manager’s faith up front but has produced little to justify a lofty 12.4 price tag, scoring only three times in 10 starts. Certainly, if he can recover in time, a trip to Arsenal’s porous defence before back-to-back home encounters with Hull and Stoke may yet afford Van Persie the chance to prosper, but with Diego Costa and Sergio Aguero racking up the goals in the premium price bracket, investment in the costly Dutchman holds no appeal. A possible absence for Van Persie could see Rooney shifted up top if Falcao remains absent, though, potentially allowing Juan Mata a central support role after the Spaniard emerged from the bench to score the winner against Palace.

Fabregas Withdraws From Spain Duties

The Chelsea playmaker has been ruled out of Spain’s upcoming fixtures against Belarus and Germany over the next few days. The Spain Football Federation confirmed that scans have revealed he has sustained a hamstring problem, going on to say:

“The MRI done this morning in the Sanitas Clinic in La Moraleja (Madrid) showed a clear improvement with respect to the one done by his club on Sunday. Although the MRI discards a hamstring tear, the player continues to have discomfort and the medical team considers that his involvement in the next games would not be advisable for his complete recovery.”

The Scout Says: As the most popular midfielder in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game, any period of absence for Fabregas would have a significant knock-on effect. Since returning to the Premier League, his consistency has been unrivalled by any midfielder, with the Spaniard earning points in eight of the first 11 Gameweeks. Given that he’s now up to 9.8, though, many eyeing up the Chelsea midfield could well opt for the similarly priced Eden Hazard (10.0) – the Belgian sits only seven points behind his team-mate, yet is owned by just 16% of Fantasy managers. With Oscar, at 8.4, grabbing three goals, an assist and seven bonus points in the last six, though, there’s no shortage of Chelsea midfield alternatives to consider ahead of a very kind upcoming run of matches (WBA, sun, TOT, new, HUL, stk).

Begovic Hopeful of Quick Recovery

The Stoke number one has delayed joining up with the Bosnia squad ahead of the weekend clash with Israel after picking up a groin problem at the weekend. Begovic is optimistic, however, that he’ll be fit in time for Saturday’s encounter:

“I had to stay in Stoke for a check-up but I will join my Bosnia team mates (on Wednesday) and hopefully will be ready for (the match against Israel). I played through the pain after taking a knock in the groin in the first half against Tottenham and I will know more about my condition in a day or two, but there is a good chance I will be fit.”

The Scout Says: It’s been a slow start to the season for the Potters stopper so far. Hopes were high of defensive returns after a Gameweek 3 clean sheet away to City suggested an upturn in resilience but Begovic has managed just one more clean sheet since the Etihad clash – at home to Newcastle in Gameweek 6. With the likes of Marc Wilson offering a cheaper route into Mark Hughes’s backline, Begovic has since slipped in price to 4.9, and whilst an upcoming home clash with Burnley holds promise, his 7% ownership may be thinking of parting company thereafter, regardless of injury. Stoke face Liverpool, United, Arsenal, Chelsea and Everton in five of the subsequent six, and given their form so far, defensive returns look highly unlikely for some time to come.

Aarons Sidelined Again for Magpies

Reports in the local press confirm the Newcastle winger is set to miss the next couple of league matches after limping out of training last week with a recurrence of a hamstring injury.

The Scout Says: Eased into the action by Alan Pardew, Aarons sprung onto our radars in Gameweek 3 after emerging from the bench to grab a goal and assist in just 24 minutes in a 3-3 draw against Palace. The youngster was then sidelined by a hamstring injury before returning to action last month, finding the net in a 2-0 Capital One Cup win at City to highlight his prodigious talents, but his absence, along with the likes of Gabriel Obertan, is likely to see Sammy Ameobi and Remy Cabella handed the flank roles as Pardew’s side go in search of a fifth straight win at home to QPR. Bearing in mind Cabella sets you back 7.2, the Frenchman will find it hard to attract Fantasy attention, though Ameobi, at 4.4, has grabbed a goal and assist in his last four appearances and has started the last two Gameweeks for the in-form Magpies.

Senderos Concern for Villa

The centre-half has reportedly picked up a calf complaint during training with the Swiss national squad and is set to miss the upcoming encounters against Lithuania and Poland.

The Scout Says: Frustratingly for Paul Lambert, Senderos has only just returned to action after picking up a thigh injury during the previous international break. The centre-half had started each of the first seven Gameweeks, but after missing three league matches, he returned to the bench away to West Ham as Paul Lambert retained Nathan Baker alongside Ron Vlaar in the goalless draw. Baker’s late withdrawal with a knee problem at Upton Park places further question marks over the Villa defence, with Ciaran Clark looking the obvious option should the pair be ruled out. A first clean sheet in seven attempts will boost confidence, and following a home clash with Southampton, Lambert’s side face Burnley, Palace, Leicester and West Brom in consecutive matches which may yet bring in the points.

Barry Ruled Out for Toffees

The Everton midfielder is set for a spell on the sidelines after scans confirmed he sustained ankle ligament damage during the weekend draw at Sunderland. Barry was stretchered off early against the Black Cats and the Toffees official website have since revealed he is expected to be out “for weeks rather than months”.

The Scout Says: An ever-present for the Merseysiders in the league this term, losing Barry’s experience in the double-pivot will be a blow for Roberto Martinez. Everton have managed just three clean sheets this season but two of those have arrived in the last four Gameweeks, with the Toffees conceding only twice over that period, and the veteran’s absence could be detrimental to their recent upturn in resilience. Martinez handed Darron Gibson (4.3 in FPL) the chance to replace Barry, though the Toffees boss could also turn to Leon Osman – such a scenario could potentially lessen the competition for places out wide, given that the latter has started two of the last four on the flank.

          C looks the best option if you want to do it all this GW then. I'd consider Azpi over Terry though, Chelsea's corners have been quite poor this season so considerably less attacking threat

      They are all good moves, but like everybody else, I favour C. Mind you it's easier telling somebody else to take a hit, rather than taking one myself. That -4 might cost you, so on reflection I'd take the cautious approach and keep clyne and terry. Can you not do austin this week and naylor next?

        Unfortunately not - they're both downgrades I'd need to do to fund Mane -> Hazard. If I chose to lose Fabregas instead I have greater flexibility but I'm hoping to keep him for a little while still. A confirmed absence through injury would change things though.

    Is ADM overrated?

    Considering he had virtually no goal threat playing in the diamond with 2 goals from 4 shots inside the box (one of the goals a cross from a free kick which carried all the way in due to gk error) and the fact he got three assists from mishit shots outside the box he has actually being more dangerous since the change of formation.

    Since the change he was had more shots in the box (still poor and probably what you would expect from a player who averages 4 goals a season for his career) and more key passes with two actual assists where he passed the ball where he meant to still leaving a hell of a lot of work to do for fellaini and mata to score mind). I can't remember many clear cut chances that he has made yet people think he is great for some reason?

    In my opinion adm is behind silva, gerro, sturridge, fabregas and possibly ozil in the sub 10m mids and if he out scores tadic I'll be surprised. Personally I think people are blinded by him as he looks the only viable route into the United attack which some people still see as a top attack.

            The ozil comparison is a good one imo as ozil is better than adm due to more of a goal threat and in a better team yet still wasn't phenomenal last season.

              I don't think Ozil will outscore ADM or Gerrard. Fabregas will and Silva more than likely will. Sterling and ADM is a close call.

              Maybe i'm just a blind Utd fan who thinks Utd will come good again though 🙂

                Haha you have my sympathy Rock You are in the same boat as the poor Liverpool supporters were for years, torn between your love of Utd and wanting their players in your team and actually trying to have a good fpl team.

                I've seen it in many mini leagues where people's loyalty to their team makes them pick sub optimal players just because they want to see them do well. Funny how so many Liverpool fans did so well last season isn't it?

                Fwiw I do think United will come good in the second half of the year but I think it may be mata and Falcao that end up the fpl stars for ye.

      I think there's something else - he's a lot of fun to watch 😀

      With that said, I agree - and we've seen this before with a big money move from Real Madrid. Ozil took the league by storm with loads of assists early on, then quickly faltered when others on his team started to shine. That could easily happen again, not meaning ADM won't still be a great player, just maybe not an amazing fantasy heavy hitter.

      No he isn't, but it certainly doesn't help when he can make 10 key passes in a game but nobody's capable of putting it in the net

        All his key passes are like the ones jar vis used to make though I. E. Long crosses/passes in to the box which statistically have poor conversion rates. The likes of baines and downing normally have a lot of these type of key passes too without any reward (see hazard also but at least he gets in the box).

        Statistics aren't everything and if you watch him in matches he is anonymous mostly with the odd dribble, class touch or great long pass but these don't generally mean big fpl points.

        Take away his lucky five assists and lucky goal and he is not worth the money

          Not really... but ADM always look dangerous with the ball in his feet, that what I meant, I can understand why Gaal is angry at him because he always tries to create whe he should play more simple.

            I agree he looks dangerous but he gives the ball away so much it is ridiculous as he is trying to create from stupid positions which give the attacker almost no chance when he gets on the end of things.

            Besides his obvious class and potential to get maybe 15+ assists his lack of goals will mean he won't even score as highly as the much maligned silva imo

      As you say a fair portion of his attacking returns have been flukey and with the team struggling as a whole I managed to resist buying him.

      I am NOT a fan of Man Utd so no bias here.. Adm for me is a must have. Good fixtures and the main threat at Manutd who really do look like they can score goals this season. Gets into all the right areas and takes a LOT of set pieces.. the points will come. Not afraid of taking a shot anymore either... gonna have a big year. probably should have been around 9.5 million still but still as good a bet as any

        This game is all about opinions I guess and I just can't see it myself. The next time you watch a United game watch how many times adm gets in the box for a shot and watch how many proper chances he makes for people (I mean chances he puts on a plate not a 50 yard cross which someone is jumping backwards to get to).

        He is one I don't have the same as I stayed away from Ozil last season and don't fear him one bit.

    I feel like there's a real case for keeping Pelle right now. In his next four he has Villa (one of the worst defences in the league) away, then every opportunity to continue excellent home form against City and United, both of whom have been shipping goals this season. Arsenal away would be my only worry. It's January when his fixtures really turn, with Chelsea and Arsenal at home then United away.

    A) Forster: MCI ars MUN ARS mun new eve TOT mci

    B) Heaton: AVL NEW qpr new QPR CPL TOT LEI avl

    (I own both in my draft league team, and those are the GW's/fixtures in which I'd consider playing Heaton in instead Forster. If the difference in projected CS's isn't great then I'd probably consider selling Heaton to the guy without a GK).

      Falcao out does not really explain utd's struggle though. The fact tt soton spend much lesser and have key players sold last season and they manage 2nd says all.

        It helps going into the break after a decent week. You don't have to worry about your values dropping to much and making transfers and hits early on. Just cope with any injuries if and when

          Boyd has more chance of a goal or assist, nailed on bench fodder.

    Please rate my team (on WC)

    Krull (Elliot)
    Baines - Clyne - Dummet (Wisdom - Duff)
    Siggy - Downing - Di Maria - Sanches (Wanyama)
    Costa - Sakho - Aguero

    0.1 itb

      Dummett > Yun

      You've got Newcastle cover.

      Maybe Austin instead of Sakho. I think I would try to find some way of squeezing ADM to be Hazard

        Ye, im 0.1 short for ADM -> Haz and i dont know if its worth throwing ADM away for Haz...

          For the next gameweek it probably is. Get Boyd instead of Wanyama and you have the funds.

            I Did:

            Dummet -> Yun
            Sakho -> Austin
            ADM -> Haz

            And no 0.2 itb

            Thanks guys!

      Not sure, City have looked atrocious at the back lately. He's not nailed either, think Clyne > Azpi will be the most common transfer, especially for the ones with extra £

    How does this look folks?

    Tadic / Ulloa / Pelle ---> Downing / Ayoze / Aguero for -4 with 0 ITB after.

    Stumped as how to get Aguero in otherwise.

      You need to get Aguero so yes
