With the fall-out from Sergio Aguero’s injury reverberating around the Fantasy Football community, it’s time to distract ourselves from our return to the drawing board and resume the Gameweek action.

A pair of Premier League encounters await, with events beginning at the Boleyn Ground as Swansea City clash with West Ham. A battle of two in-form teams harbouring top six ambitions, the Hammers go into this match with just one defeat in the last eight, while the Swans’ have also suffered just one setback in their previous six league outings. Fantasy managers will of course be hoping that the 50% owned Gylfi Sigurdsson can help rescue the Gameweek with midfield returns, while Wilfried Bony will likely be auditioning as the potential Sergio Aguero replacement, once the City’s striker’s prognosis is confirmed.

Later today, Villa meet Leicester City in a midlands derby that, while bereft of Fantasy talent, could yet prove of interest with Christian Benteke now presenting an option up top. The Belgian returned to the scoresheet to earn the three points at Palace in midweek and, should he also put the Foxes to the sword, there’s little doubt that Benteke will be another name considered in the light of Aguero’s injury scare.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Observation - Baines scores with & without Mirallas:

    With Mirallas playing - 9 games/31 points/3.4 PPG (GW1-6, 13-15)
    Without Mirallas - 5 games/42 points/8.4 PPG (GW7-11)

    Just saying like

Did Mirallas have the set pieces earlier?

He definitely took a free late on that Baines would have done much better with (Mirallas messed it up).

It's more down to fixtures IMO.

A fair point - nice fixture coming up this week, Baines & Mirallas will both be on the pitch.

3.4 points or less for Baines will hint at a very strong correlation between Mirallas' presence on the pitch & Baines scores dropping/vice-versa.

Disagree. Huge difference in fixture difficulty there, harsh to say it's down to Mirallas.

GW1-6: lei, ARS, CHE, wba, CRY, liv

GW7-11: mun, AVL, bur, SWA, sun.

But Baines next fixture is way towards the easy end of the scale... hence 3.4 points or less for Baines will hint at a very strong correlation between Mirallas' presence on the pitch & Baines scores dropping/vice-versa... i.e. fixture difficulty less relevant than Mirallas presence on the pitch.

And vice - versa - if Baines scores 18 points whilst Mirallas is on the pitch, we say the theory above is total bollocks & get Baines while everton's fixtures are good, which has always been the default theory...

            See?

You can get 8/1 on a 1-0 Villa win at William Hill.

Worth a look surely, bet365 have it at 7/1 and Paddy has it at a measly 5.5/1.

    Looks value!

I've got Hutton & benteke so effectively am already heavily invested in a Villa win... adding money on top of that would be too much for my frayed nerves to bear.

Sakho is just coming back from injury so we will see once both are fully fit who is the preffered. Still think Sakho has to be the nr 1 striker after his early season form and other two rotating.

Not sure on Dzeko tbh... seems pricey too for a guy who is always a rotation risk.

Rotation risk with whom? Jovetic? They'll either play together or Dzeko will get the nod before him imo

They will never play together now.
          1- Silva is returning
2- Pelle likes to have a striker in the bench
          3- Milner and Lampard

One of the fixtures is right after a CL game they need to win and I have seen them underperform many times after Europe.

He may not even play as Jovetic and Silva are due back soon.

I'm not saying you shouldn't get him, only that I am not taking the risk with the number of games about to ramp up I want players who are guaranteed starters for the holiday period.

          Combination of things

          Chadli may play next game
Dzeko is still a rotation risk
          Better striker options around
Yaya still overpriced and going to ACN soon

Well definitely not Sakho, he's no longer first choice judging by today.
Benteke is naileder than nailed on in the villa team & is attacking focal point, with pens in his locker & probably trying to play his way into a January transfer window move... so I'd edge towards him (pending his performance later... anything less than 8 points & probably best to steer clear... 8+ points means Bentekkers is Backkers)
Dzeko on the other hand is a flat track bully, who has excellent fixtures next 4 & has just had the road into the starting line up totally cleared in his favour...

fwiw, I'm going for Benteke/Dzeko/Austin for the christmas crunch now that Kun is dead.

No I think Kane is a super choice - he's one of those players that is so cheap, it doesn't matter if he blanks, and every goal or assist he gets is a total bonus for a 5.0 player. Then with him being so heap he allows more big hitters elsewhere.

I just can't find room for him as want Benteke/Austin/Dzeko

Point missed fella, by quite some margin.

To recap - Avoid bringing in Sakho.

Whether he's first choice, 10th choice, injured, fit, up, down, in, out, or under the weather from the christmas party. There are so many better options around.

Fabregas owners benching? I've got Boyd who fortunately is at home, but Chelsea don't have the easiest of 4 fixtures when Fabregas returns.

Ignore the fixtures as it's Chelsea and just play Boyd, benching Fabs?

Alternative would really only be Yaya as I've got Hazard & Sanchez.

No, to be honest I think it'd be FPL suicide to not have Baines for his next fixture... so I'm taking a hit to get him in, despite my own advice. But if he duffs it, we'll have probably worked out the secret to timing when & when not to have Baines in your team - when Mirallas is injured - get Baines & vice-versa.

A serious injury is losing a limb forcing you to retire, or getting a heart attack redering you unable to be employed for the rest of your life.

            Not a muscle strain.

That is a life threatening injury. Ask any ortho surgeon if knee ligament damage isn't serious.

in the context of football it's serious

                    11 years, 1 day ago

In the context of day to day it can be very serious as well. Can increase the risk of future arthritis, can in theory end a career (and it has done before) etc.

That is serious. It is not life threatening, I'm not saying that we need to go out and hold a vigil or anything like that. But a little bit of empathy for a guy who has a bad injury, regardless of what he is paid etc. isn't that much to ask for I don't think.

      6. Somalion
        • 15 Years

So because a guy is successful in a profession (a very lucrative one) he deserves no empathy for a potentially awful injury?

            Depends on the ligaments CS.

Any injury that can keep someone out for a number of months is serious in my books. It is not a "life ending" type of injury but it can have a big impact nonetheless.
