With a somewhat sobering Gameweek 17 behind us, we pick ourselves up and refocus our attentions on the Sky Sports Fantasy Football game once again. We focus on the Man of the Match (MoTM) awards and bonus point beneficiaries before taking a look at the Scout team and our plans for Gameweek 18.

Gameweek 17 Man of the Match Awards

These were the players that caught the eye of the Sky Sports reporters from last weekend’s fixtures achieving the Man of the Match award (worth an additional five points).

FixtureMoTM
Newcastle vs ChelseaPapiss Cisse
Hull vs West BromAllan McGregor
Liverpool vs SunderlandLiam Bridcutt
QPR vs BurnleyLeroy Fer
Stoke vs ArsenalBojan Krkic
Tottenham vs Crystal PalaceYannick Bolasie
Man City vs EvertonJames Milner
West Ham vs SwanseaAndy Carroll
Aston Villa vs LeicesterGabriel Agbonlahor
Southampton vs Man UnitedRobin van Persie

Aside from Hull keeper Allan McGregor, midfielders and forwards had a monopoly on the awards this week, earning four and five respectively. Yannick Bolasie and Papiss Cisse both received their fourth accolade of the campaign so far – incredibly in Cisse’s case, he’s only started four matches, underlying his potential if he can get back to full fitness.

Gameweek 17 Bonus Points

Only two goalkeepers achieved bonus points from collecting five or more saves. Kasper Schmeichel and Jak Alnwick were the men in question, with the latter only needing 45 minutes to earn himself the additional two points. Robert Green still leads the way for keepers with 14 bonus points.

In defence, 13 players grabbed bonus, nine for tackles and four for passes completed. Villa’s budget centre-back Jores Okore came closest to grabbing both, missing out by just ten completed passes. Dejan Lovren and Martin Skrtel are the top performing defenders in terms of bonus with 14 additional points so far.

In midfield, there were 15 beneficiaries in total: six for tackling and 12 for passes. Lucas, Samir Nasri and, of course, Cesc Fabregas picked up both – the Chelsea playmaker is now hot on Morgan Schneiderlin’s heels and is just two points behind the Frenchman’s impressive 28 points so far.

Fantasy Football Scout members can access all information regarding bonus points using player stats and clicking the Sky Sports tab.

The Transfer Trends

Top Transfers Out

Di MariaMan United8.66.3%

The Sergio Aguero exodus is in full swing, with a massive 22.6% getting rid after the news of his four-to-six week absence hits us. Cesc Fabregas is suspended for the weekend’s action having picked up five bookings, whilst Angel di Maria remains on the sidelined as United prepare for the visit of rivals Liverpool.

Top Transfers In

NameTeamValue% of Managers

CostaChelsea9.56%

All three of these look direct replacements for the stricken Aguero here. Wayne Rooney is the favoured option, whilst Diego Costa and Alexis Sanchez look set to start this weekend – the Chelsea frontman is aiming to improve his match sharpness after turning in some average displays upon his return from injury, whilst the in-form Sanchez was nicely rested from midweek duties ahead of the visit of Newcastle.

Notes

A poor week for me but I’m assuming it was the case for most others with Stewart Downing and Alan Hutton’s five points proving my main source of returns. Last week, I talked up Yaya Toure and Aaron Ramsey as options and both delivered – the pair were massive players last season and have still accumulated a decent amount of points this time, despite subdued performances so far. With Ramsey now unfortunately injured, I’m looking at drafting in Toure for Raheem Sterling or Angel di Maria this week – the only things holding me back are his Suspension Tightrope status and the impending African Nations Cup. I’ll wait right up until deadline before making the decision.

Captain plan

For Saturday, I’ll stick with MotM machine Eden Hazard at home to Hull and hope Chelsea don’t miss Cesc Fabregas’ creativity too much. Diego Costa is the other obvious choice but his diminished returns of late have swayed me.

On Sunday, I’ll hand the armband to my new shiny acquisition Wayne Rooney, who also has a penchant for MoTM and will be up against a Liverpool team in poor form and hopefully pretty tired after their midweek exertions.

This means Rooney will be my captain for Saturday Gameweek 19 against Villa, as good a choice as any on that day.

If you fancy the three captains option and want to take advantage of Monday night’s match, then an Everton player looks a good shout – they also play on Saturday Gameweek 19, meaning only one transfer is needed.

The Fantasy Football Scout League

Once again, we’re running our own Fantasy Football Scout League this season and were currently toping the Private League rankings as per usual. With a £1000 prize to the winner, you’d be mad not to get involved. To join, visit Sky Sports Fantasy Football and key in League Name: FFScout, League Code: 8009000.

The Fantasy Football Club

This Friday The Fantasy Football Club show, where you can catch Fenners and Merse at 18:30 SkySports One HD where they will be discussing the upcoming week’s Fantasy Football, quizzing former Reading manager Brian McDermott and asking Newcastle legend Alan Shearer for his #One2Eleven.

Plenty are looking to rotate Siggy and Austin over the coming weeks, given their superior home records.

Austin has scored all of QPR's goals away from home - it's just that there's only been two of them. I think it's dangerous to rely on them blanking in every single away game - if they nick a goal somewhere, he's still overwhelmingly likely to be involved.

As for Siggy, he has blanked for the last six away matches, fair enough. That said, those matches have been che/sun/sto/eve/mci/whm - a pretty tough set of fixtures, in which Swansea have only scored five times.

After Austin's suspension this week, his next travels are to an injury-hit Arsenal, then to his former side Burnley. Swansea's next away trips are to Hull, Liverpool and QPR - none of whom are looking particularly convincing at the back.

There's certainly some merit to this plan, and it would have worked out quite well so far. However, I don't expect either player to keep such a pronounced split in attacking returns between home and away matches - it remains the case that if their team scores, in any fixture, they both have an excellent chance of being amongst the points.

Not that difficult a choice really.

What's important to you? That your player is certain to start and play the full 90min? Then Lukaku is your man.

Go with Dzeko if you willing to punt on him taking the chances presented him should he play significant minutes this weekend.

    Evening,

    RMT please:

1FT and £0.8 in the bank

    Foster
    Clyne, Baines, Williams
Sanchez, Siggy, Hazard (C), Chadli, Downing
    Pelle, Costa (V)

Look good or should I play Guzan in goal and Janmaat over Chadli?

I have Howard as my only keeper.

Is it worth doing Duff to Baines for a hit? Or is doubling on Everton defence too risky considering their form isn't great?

I'm currently starting Duff. Caulker comes in if Duff doesn't play. So 2 points seems the best case scenario. Baines can make up for the hit with just a CS

    1. Saniul

Get Baines. He is more likely to do goal/assist than a CS, anyway.

Not doing it personally bit even if austin is involved in a goal it's hardly a disaster. More benefit on rotating him than starting him with the fear that he nicks an odd goal

I've done it all season to great effect. This week my 8 attackers meant I didn't have to take a hit when austin and aguero were out, but rather can easily cover austin's absence. If yaya gets his 5th YC i'm covered. if anyone gets rotated, im covered.. etc..

I'd play Caulker over Wisdom on the basis that Villa should muster up a goal in the derby and with Benteke back - and Caulker is QPRs weapon at corners (and Everton don't do clean sheets).

    a) Marney -> Mirallas
    b) Chambers -> Zabaleta

    Foster
    Dummett Baines Azpi
    Hazard Siggy Sanchez Downing Marney
    Costa Bony

    Bench: Austin Chambers Yun

Pros of a) Mirallas virtually certain to start, explosive, best possible fixture, strong front 8 for christmas period.

Pros of b) No front 8 benching problem, great fixtures until January, easier to replace Zabaleta than Mirallas, will probably need to transfer Chambers out soon anyway.

Avoid both. They'll cannibalize one another.

-4 for dzeko or take -8 to bring toure and kane

Neither, unless you can't field an XI.

            thanks 😀

no idea if it does me any good at all

hopefully i can put in a basket of things that helps me get a higher pay grade

if not that, it is at least a decent boost to help keep at it and believe one day it will pay like i think it should

[i finally found something i enjoy doing for work (which is great), but i'm still struggling with how to get paid enough for it]

Kane to Costa for -4, yay or nay?

      Already got Hazard? Then nay.

That said, Costa due to rise tonight according to FF Fix, if you can't get him in for higher, best to make that move now.

No. You're probably throwing a point or so away, on average. Unless you'd captain Costa and wouldn't captain Kane, in which case I'd say yay.

I'm thinking of -4 to get rid of Kane but can't decide who for.

I am confused about all the love for Costa though - he doesn't seem to have done anything for weeks.

      Am I missing something?

Morning. Need to replace Courtois in my Fox team. Can only have two from each team so can't get Hart or Adrian. Who's next best keeper until Jan WildCard behind these 3?

    1 FT and 1.8ITB. Should I do Chambers -> Zaba/Kompany or Marney -> Downing?

    Foster
    Clyne Naylor Chambers Hutton Moore
    Sanchez Haz Fab Siggy Marney
    Costa Rooney Austin

Thanks, that's what I have been thinking. Bringing in Downey would give me a front 8 to rotate over the holidays.

Don't like rotating attackers personally, too hard to pick. Downing only has two more good fixtures before they turn in my eyes, so perhaps don't worry about him now and play that front 7 each week till Jan WC.
