Not so merry, certainly not so high – my rank took a tumble and my co-host rival has taken advantage: in an extraordinary Gameweek, Granville is now breathing down my neck with just two points between us. It’s a nightmare before Christmas.

Not surprisingly, much of this festive ScoutCast is given up to Granville’s ascent, his six million dollar man – Charlie Austin – and the failings of my faith in Diego Costa.

Around all that, we preview the Boxing Day schedule, cast an eye over the Scout leagues and assess the merits of the current transfers bandwagons. I even have time to throw in another Jose Mourinho conspiracy theory. Hey, let me have my fun – I needed cheering up.

        Yun aside, the rest should start right? And then I have Downing and Wisdom who should also start (although have bad fixtures).

        I think Giroud has far more potential this week, but Zaba has more potential over the next 3. That being said, if Zaba plays 90 tomorrow, risk of rotation on Sunday?

            That's the issue with Gru eh. 3 tough away games in the next 4.

            I'd either keep or offload to Austin/Tekkers (maybe even Jovetic) next week.

            Siggy almost certainly goes next week to Silva/Sterling.

          Yeah he won't play all 3 games. But would giroud?

          Yun and chambers are likely not to play. But a giroud haul could outwiegh defence problems. 50/50

            Yun is definitely out by the sounds, and yeah I think Chambers is 50:50.

            I'd probably be shifting Giroud next week, so it does feel a bit punty.

              I've been shifting my "turd" striker the last 3 weeks. Eventhough it was fun it got me now where.

              GRu has nice fixt this week,but I fancy keeping Sakho for ARS/WBA.

                Yeah, plus WHU have a decent GW22 so it fits in nicely with a late Jan WC.

                Another option could be a cheapie defender this week to leave me with the option of 2 MCY attackers and Sterling/Austin over the next 2 weeks?

                O'Shea I guess looks a decent pick this week.

              It could work over the christmas period, then get him back when you wildcard. I like that idea, puts you 1 ahead of the rest and you can bench carroll

                Indeed. Thing is, I plan to WC after GW22, and WHU have the worst fixtures after that so I'd probably avoid Downing anyway.

        My thinking also, plus we may get a better idea of who's getting rested on Sunday after tomorrow's games.

        With Zaba you're mainly getting him for GW19&20, so it'd be annoying if he got rested for them.

        That being said, Giroud does feel a bit of a 1 week punt given the fixtures.

      I would get an extra defender. Not sure who, but debuchy is likely to keep a cleansheet this week. And a sunderland defender, but I just don't like them. Debuchy is a very good bet, he should start all games in the next 3 gws.

      You will need that seeing you have soton hard fixtures. So moore to debuchy

      hmmm tough choice, Downing or Naylor? I would still use the forward player, i think Wham could sneak in a goal and then he is likely to be involved. Also Tekkers looking dangerous so could imagine him scoring too, anyway i could be wrong of course...

            Maybe get Hart? Heaton has bad fixtures if my memory serves me correctly... Mangala looks like he'll play every game but a yellow this weekend will be annoying.

      Downing in front of Hutton for me. I'd probably save the transfer and figure out who to shift Yun out for next week with two. Captain is tough with that lot....I'd probably just go with Hazard and hope he plays...Yaya vice.

          Sunderland defense is popular on here but I'm not going to buy in right now. Don't see any wonderful options - Vergini easily could miss a game of the next three and O'Shea could pick up a yellow. I would just save though as you have good cover and will have a clearer picture after Boxing Day as to who will be best to bring in.

    Is transferring Downing out really that mental? Especially if you have Carroll?

    che, ARS up next so double WHU seems excessive, and there's not many striker options screaming out to ditch Carroll for this week. Gru looks the best this week, but then it's 3 tough away games in 4.

      I can see a rationale behind it as I was considering the same thing but I think it is slightly misguided. Downing is just too on form and too much value to shift him out. Benching him isn't the worst thing and you can easily afford a good fifth midfielder with the funds saved on Downing as well as the increased team value at this point.

        A) Yun -> Zaba
        B) Carroll -> Giroud
        C) Downing -> Silva/Sterling

        I expect A) to be the most popular, but I'm a little worried Zaba will get rested on Sunday, which defeats the purpose of getting him a little. I don't think either team can afford to rest Silva or Giroud, and both have had a long break recently.

              Yeah I mean with that bunch I'd probably spend the transfer on Yun. Who to get though is beyond me. You need to get Austin in next week for Kane. Sorting out Yun now will pay off. Especially with the recent concerns cropping up with Chambers. You are fine with Carroll and Downing..you can get away with it. They are both on form and after the che game they can be started with confidence for a while.

                Yeah, Chambers looks like he has to go. Have Wisdom (MCY) this week if he doesn't play which isn't great, but defence is also light next week if Chambers is out.

                Zaba feels the safest option. Or perhaps Baines? I doubt he'll get rested at all.

                  Yeah tough call. Transferring Baines in right now sounds like madness to me and as an owner I wouldn't be too surprised if he is rested for one of the next three sadly.

                    Thing is, players I want in over the next 1-3 weeks are these:

                    Silva, Sterling, Austin, Tekkers

                    And if I use funds and a transfer on Zaba then at least 1 of those 4 has to be sacrificed.

                      I hear you, mate. I think we are all in the same sort of boat at this time...gotta spend the transfers wisely and determine which are necessity and which are vanity. Of those mentioned above the only I would qualify as necessity is Austin...the rest vanity. But we all play the game differently!
